হিতোপদেশ 9

1 ১ প্রজ্ঞা নিজের ঘর তৈরী করেছে, সে কুঠার দিয়ে কেটে সাতটা স্তম্ভ খোদাই করেছে;

Wisdom hath builded her house; She hath hewn out her seven pillars.

2 ২ সে নিজের পশুর মাংস প্রস্তুত করেছে; সে আঙ্গুর রস মিশিয়েছে এবং সে নিজের মেজও সাজিয়েছে।

She hath killed her fatlings; She hath mingled her wine; Yea, she hath furnished her table.

3 ৩ সে নিজের দাসীদেরকে পাঠিয়েছে, সে নগরের সবচেয়ে উঁচু জায়গা থেকে ডেকে বলে,

She hath sent forth her maidens; She crieth aloud upon the highest places of the city:

4 ৪ “যে সরল, সে এই জায়গায় আসুক; যার বুদ্ধি নেই সে তাকে বলে,

“Whoever is simple, let him turn in hither!” To him that is void of understanding she saith,

5 ৫ এস, আমার খাদ্য দ্রব্য খাও, আমার মেশানো আঙ্গুর রস পান কর।”

“Come, eat of my bread, And drink of the wine which I have mingled!

6 ৬ নির্বোধদের সঙ্গ ছেড়ে জীবন ধারণ কর, সুবিবেচনার পথে চলো।

Forsake folly, and live! And go forward in the way of understanding!

7 ৭ যে নিন্দককে শিক্ষা দেয়, সে লজ্জা পায়, যে দুষ্টকে তিরস্কার করে, সে কলঙ্ক পায়।

“He who correcteth a scoffer Bringeth shame upon himself; And he who rebuketh the wicked Bringeth upon himself a stain.

8 ৮ নিন্দককে অনুযোগ কোরো না, পাছে সে তোমাকে ঘৃণা করে; জ্ঞানবানকেই অনুযোগ কর, সে তোমাকে প্রেম করবে।

Rebuke not a scoffer, lest he hate thee; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

9 ৯ জ্ঞানবানকে [শিক্ষা] দাও, সে আরও জ্ঞানবান হইবে; ধার্ম্মিককে জ্ঞান দাও, তার পাণ্ডিত্য বাড়বে।

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; Teach a righteous man, and he will increase his learning.

10 ১০ পবিত্র সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করাই প্রজ্ঞার শুরু, পবিত্রতম-বিষয়ের জ্ঞানই সুবিবেচনা।

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Most Holy is understanding.

11 ১১ কারণ আমার থেকেই তোমার আয়ু বাড়বে, তোমার জীবনের বছরের সংখ্যা বাড়বে।

Yea, through me thy days shall be multiplied, And the years of thy life shall be increased.

12 ১২ তুমি যদি জ্ঞানবান হও, নিজেরই মঙ্গলের জন্য জ্ঞানবান হবে, যদি নিন্দা কর, একাই তা বহন করবে।

If thou art wise, thou art wise for thyself; And if thou art a scoffer, thou alone must bear it.”

13 ১৩ বুদ্ধিহীন স্ত্রীলোক ঝগড়াটি, সে অবোধ, কিছুই জানে না।

The foolish woman is clamorous; She is very simple, and careth for nothing.

14 ১৪ সে নিজের ঘরের দরজায় বসে, নগরের উঁচু জায়গায় আসন পেতে বসে;

She sitteth at the door of her house, Upon a seat in the high places of the city,

15 ১৫ সে পথিকদেরকে ডাকে, সরলপথগামীদেরকে ডাকে,

To call aloud to those that pass by, Who go straight forward in their ways,

16 ১৬ যে অবোধ, সে এই জায়গায় আসুক, যে বুদ্ধিহীন, সে তাকে বলে,

“Whoever is simple, let him turn in hither!” And to him that is void of understanding she saith,

17 ১৭ চুরি করা জল মিষ্টি, নিরালার খাবার সুস্বাদু।

“Stolen water is sweet, And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”

18 ১৮ কিন্তু সে জানে না যে, মৃতরাই সেখানে থাকে, ওরা অতিথিরা পাতালের নীচে থাকে। (Sheol h7585)

But he considereth not that the dead are there, That in the vales of the under-world are her guests. (Sheol h7585)
