হিতোপদেশ 5

1 ১ আমার পুত্র, আমার প্রজ্ঞা যত্ন সহকারে শোনো, আমার বুদ্ধির প্রতি কান দাও;

My son, attend to my wisdom, and bow thy ear to my understanding:

2 ২ যেন তুমি বিবেচনা রক্ষা কর, যেন তোমার ঠোঁট জ্ঞানের কথা পালন করে।

That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

3 ৩ কারণ ব্যাভিচারিনীর ঠোঁট থেকে মধু ঝড়ে, তার তালু তেলের থেকেও মসৃণ;

For the lips of an adulteress drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

4 ৪ কিন্তু তার শেষ ফল তেতো গাছের মত তেতো, ধারালো তরোয়ালের মত কাটে।

But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.

5 ৫ তার পা মৃত্যুর কাছে নেমে যায়, তার পা পাতালে পড়ে। (Sheol h7585)

Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. (Sheol h7585)

6 ৬ সে জীবনের সমান পথ পায় না, তার পথ সব অস্থির; সে কিছু জানে না।

Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are unstable, that thou canst not know them.

7 ৭ অতএব আমার পুত্ররা, আমার কথা শোনো, আমার মুখের বাক্য থেকে মুখ ফিরিয়ে নিও না।

Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

8 ৮ তুমি সেই স্ত্রীর থেকে নিজের পথ দূরে রাখ, তার ঘরের দরজার কাছে যেও না;

Remove thy way far from her, and come not near the door of her house:

9 ৯ পাছে তুমি নিজের সম্মান অন্যদেরকে দাও, নিজের জীবন নিষ্ঠুর ব্যক্তিকে দাও।

Lest thou give thy honour to others, and thy years to the cruel:

10 ১০ না হলে অন্য লোকে তোমার ধনে তৃপ্ত হয়, আর তোমার পরিশ্রমের ফল বিদেশীদের ঘরে থাকে;

Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

11 ১১ জীবনের শেষকালে তুমি অনুশোচনা করবে যখন তোমার মাংস ও শরীর ক্ষয়ে যায়;

And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

12 ১২ তুমি বলবে, “হায়, আমি উপদেশ ঘৃণা করেছি, আমার হৃদয় শাসন তুচ্ছ করেছে;

And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

13 ১৩ আমি নিজের শিক্ষকদের কথা মেনে চলি নি নিজের উপদেশকদের কথা শুনিনি;

And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to them that instructed me!

14 ১৪ আমি সমাজ ও মণ্ডলীর মধ্যে প্রায় সম্পূর্ণ বিনষ্ট হয়ে গিয়েছিলাম।”

I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

15 ১৫ তুমি নিজের কুয়োর জল পান কর, নিজের কুয়োর স্রোতের জল পান কর।

Drink waters out of thy own cistern, and running waters out of thy own well.

16 ১৬ তোমার ঝরনা কি বাইরে বেরিয়ে যাবে? মোড়ে কি জলের স্রোত হয়ে যাবে?

Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

17 ১৭ ওটা শুধু তোমারই হোক, তোমার সঙ্গে বিদেশী না থাকুক।

Let them be only thy own, and not for strangers with thee.

18 ১৮ তোমার ঝরনা ধন্য হোক, তুমি নিজের যৌবনে স্ত্রীতে আমোদ কর।

Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

19 ১৯ কারণ সে প্রেমময় হরিণী ও অনুগ্রহপূর্ণ হরিণী; তারই বক্ষ দ্বারা তুমি সব দিন তৃপ্ত হও; তার প্রেমে তুমি সবদিন আকৃষ্ট থাক।

Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

20 ২০ আমার পুত্র, তুমি পরের স্ত্রীতে কেন আকৃষ্ট হবে? পরজাতীয় মহিলার বক্ষ কেন আলিঙ্গন করবে?

And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with an adulteress, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

21 ২১ একজন ব্যক্তির সমস্ত কিছুই সদাপ্রভু দেখেন; তিনি তার সব পথ লক্ষ্য করেন।

For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

22 ২২ দুষ্ট নিজের অপরাধের জন্য ধরা পড়ে, তার পাপ তাকে শক্ত করে ধরে থাকবে।

His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins.

23 ২৩ সে উপদেশের অভাবে মারা যাবে, সে তার নিজের মূর্খামিতে বিপথে যায়।

He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
