হিতোপদেশ 31

1 ১ লমূয়েল রাজার কথা। তাঁর মা তাঁকে এই ভাববানী শিক্ষা দিয়েছিলেন।

The words of King Lemuel—the revelation which his mother taught him:

2 ২ হে আমার পুত্র, কি বলব? হে আমার গর্ভের সন্তান, কি বলব? হে আমার মানতের ছেলে, কি বলব?

“Oh, my son! Oh, son of my womb! Oh, son of my vows!

3 ৩ তুমি নারীদেরকে নিজের শক্তি দিও না, যা রাজাদের ক্ষতিকারক, তাতে যুক্ত থেকো না।

Do not give your strength to women, nor your ways to that which destroys kings.

4 ৪ রাজাদের জন্য, হে লমূয়েল, রাজাদের জন্য মদ্যপান উপযুক্ত নয়, সুরা কোথায়। শাসনকর্ত্তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করা উচিত নয়।

It is not for kings, Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, nor for princes to say, ‘Where is strong drink?’

5 ৫ পাছে পান করে তাঁরা ব্যবস্থা ভুলে যায় এবং কোনো দুঃখীর বিচার উল্টো করেন।

lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the justice due to anyone who is afflicted.

6 ৬ মরার মত মানুষকে সুরা দাও, তিক্তপ্রাণ লোককে আঙ্গুর রস দাও;

Give strong drink to him who is ready to perish, and wine to the bitter in soul.

7 ৭ সে পান করে দৈন্যদশা ভুলে যাক, নিজের দুর্দশা আর মনে না করুক।

Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

8 ৮ তুমি বোবাদের জন্য তোমার মুখ খোল, অনাথদের জন্য মুখ খোল।

Open your mouth for the mute, in the cause of all who are left desolate.

9 ৯ তোমার মুখ খোল, ন্যায় বিচার কর, দুঃখী ও দরিদ্রের বিচার কর। গুণবতী স্ত্রীর বর্ণনা

Open your mouth, judge righteously, and serve justice to the poor and needy.”

10 ১০ গুণবতী স্ত্রী কে পেতে পারে? মুক্তা থেকেও তাঁর মূল্য অনেক বেশী।

Who can find a worthy woman? For her value is far above rubies.

11 ১১ তাঁর স্বামীর হৃদয় তাঁতে নির্ভর করে, স্বামীর লাভের অভাব হয় না।

The heart of her husband trusts in her. He shall have no lack of gain.

12 ১২ তিনি জীবনের সব দিন তাঁর উপকার করেন, অপকার করেন না।

She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.

13 ১৩ তিনি মেষলোম ও মসীনা খোঁজ করেন, আনন্দিত ভাবে নিজের হাতে কাজ করেন।

She seeks wool and flax, and works eagerly with her hands.

14 ১৪ তিনি বাণিজ্য-জাহাজের মত, তিনি দূর থেকে নিজের খাদ্রসামগ্রী আনেন।

She is like the merchant ships. She brings her bread from afar.

15 ১৫ তিনি রাত থাকতে উঠেন, আর নিজের পরিজনদেরকে খাবার দেন, নিজের দাসীদেরকে কাজ নির্ধারণ করে দেন।

She rises also while it is yet night, gives food to her household, and portions for her servant girls.

16 ১৬ তিনি ক্ষেত্রের বিষয়ে ঠিক করে তা কেনেন, নিজের হাতের ফল দিয়ে দ্রাক্ষার বাগান তৈরী করেন।

She considers a field, and buys it. With the fruit of her hands, she plants a vineyard.

17 ১৭ তিনি শক্তিতে কোমরবন্ধন করেন, নিজের হাতদুটো শক্তিশালী করেন।

She arms her waist with strength, and makes her arms strong.

18 ১৮ তিনি দেখতে পান, তাঁর ব্যবসায় ভালো, রাতে তাঁর আলো নেভে না।

She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out by night.

19 ১৯ তিনি টেকুয়া নিতে নিজের হাত বাড়ান, তাঁর হাত দুটো পেঁজা তুলো ধরে।

She lays her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.

20 ২০ তিনি দরিদ্রের প্রতি মুক্তহস্ত হন, দীনহীনের দিকে হাত বাড়িয়ে দেন।

She opens her arms to the poor; yes, she extends her hands to the needy.

21 ২১ তিনি নিজের পরিবারের বিষয়ে বরফ থেকে ভয় পান না; কারণ তাঁর সব বাড়ীর লোকেরা লাল পোশাক পরে।

She is not afraid of the snow for her household, for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

22 ২২ তিনি নিজের জন্য পর্দার চাদর তৈরী করেন, তাঁর পোশাক সাদা মসীনা-বস্ত্র ও বেগুনি বস্ত্র।

She makes for herself carpets of tapestry. Her clothing is fine linen and purple.

23 ২৩ তাঁর স্বামী নগর-দরজায় প্রসিদ্ধ হন, যখন দেশের প্রাচীনদের সঙ্গে বসেন।

Her husband is respected in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land.

24 ২৪ তিনি সূক্ষ্ম বস্ত্র তৈরী করে বিক্রি করেন, ব্যবসায়ীদের হাতে কটিবস্ত্র তুলেদেন।

She makes linen garments and sells them, and delivers sashes to the merchant.

25 ২৫ শক্তি ও সমাদর তাঁর পোশাক; তিনি ভবিষ্যৎকালের বিষয়ে হাঁসেন।

Strength and dignity are her clothing. She laughs at the time to come.

26 ২৬ তিনি প্রজ্ঞার সঙ্গে মুখ খোলেন, তাঁর জিভে দয়ার ব্যবস্থা থাকে

She opens her mouth with wisdom. Kind instruction is on her tongue.

27 ২৭ তিনি নিজের পরিবারের আচরণের প্রতি লক্ষ্য রাখেন, তিনি অলসের খাবার খান না।

She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.

28 ২৮ তাঁর ছেলেরা উঠে তাঁকে ধন্য বলে; তাঁর স্বামীও বলেন, আর তাঁর এরকম প্রশংসা করেন,

Her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband also praises her:

29 ২৯ “অনেক মেয়ে গুনের প্রদর্শন করেছেন, কিন্তু তাদের মধ্যে সর্বাপেক্ষা তুমি শ্রেষ্ঠা।”

“Many women do noble things, but you excel them all.”

30 ৩০ লাবণ্য মিথ্যা, সৌন্দর্য্য অসার, কিন্তু যে স্ত্রী সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করেন, তিনিই প্রশংসনীয়া।

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

31 ৩১ তোমরা তাঁর হাতের ফল তাঁকে দাও, নগর-দরজার সামনে তাঁর কাজ তাঁর প্রশংসা করুক।

Give her of the fruit of her hands! Let her works praise her in the gates!
