হিতোপদেশ 21

1 ১ সদাপ্রভুর হাতে রাজার হৃদয় জলপ্রবাহের মতো; তিনি যে দিকে চায়, সেই দিকে তা ফেরান।

[Like] channels of water, is the heart of a king, in the hand of Yahweh, —whithersoever he will, he turneth it.

2 ২ মানুষের সব পথই নিজের দৃষ্টিতে সরল, কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু হৃদয় সব ওজন করেন।

Every way of a man, may be right in his own eyes, but, he that testeth hearts, is Yahweh.

3 ৩ ধার্ম্মিকতা ও ন্যায়ের কাজ সদাপ্রভুর কাছে বলিদানের থেকে গ্রাহ্য।

To do righteousness and justice, is more choice to Yahweh than sacrifice.

4 ৪ অহঙ্কারী দৃষ্টি ও গর্বিত মন, দুষ্টদের সেই বাতি পাপময়।

Loftiness of eyes, and ambition of heart—the lamp of the lawless, are sin.

5 ৫ পরিশ্রমীর চিন্তা থেকে শুধু ধনলাভ হয়, কিন্তু যে কেউ তাড়াতাড়ি করে তার কাছে শুধু দারিদ্রতা আসে।

The plans of the diligent, tend only to abundance, but, of every one that is urgent, only to want.

6 ৬ মিথ্যাবাদী জিহ্বা দ্বারা যে ধনকোষ লাভ, তা দ্রুতগামী বাষ্পস্বরূপ, তার অন্বেষণকারী মৃত্যুর অন্বেষী।

The gaining of treasures with a tongue of falsehood, is a vapour driven away, [they who seek them] seek death,

7 ৭ দুষ্টদের হিংস্রতা তাদেরকে উড়িয়ে দেয়, কারণ তারা ন্যায় আচরণ করতে অসম্মত।

The violence of the lawless, shall drag them away, —because they have refused to do justice.

8 ৮ অপরাধী লোকের পথ বাঁকা; কিন্তু বিশুদ্ধ লোকের কাজ সরল।

Crooked is the way of a guilty man, but, as for the pure, straight is his dealing.

9 ৯ বরং ছাদের কোণে বাস করা ভাল, তবু বিবাদিন বন্দিনী স্ত্রীর সঙ্গে বাড়িতে বাস করা ভাল নয়।

Better to dwell on the corner of the roof, than a quarrelsome wife, and a house in common.

10 ১০ দুষ্টের প্রাণ মন্দের আকাঙ্খা করে, তার দৃষ্টিতে তার প্রতিবাসী দয়া পায় না।

The soul of the lawless man, craveth mischief, his own friend, findeth no favour in his eyes.

11 ১১ উপহাসককে শাস্তি দিলে অবোধ বুদ্ধিমান হয়, বুদ্ধিমানকে বুঝিয়ে দিলে সে জ্ঞান বৃদ্ধি করে।

When the scoffer is punished, the simple, becometh wise, when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.

12 ১২ যিনি ধার্মিক, যিনি দুষ্টদের বংশের বিষয় বিবেচনা করেন; তিনি দুষ্টদেরকে নিক্ষেপ করে বিনাশ করেন।

The Righteous One observeth the house of the lawless, —He is ready to cast down lawless men into misfortune.

13 ১৩ যে গরিবের কান্না শোনে না, সে নিজে ডাকবে, সে শুনতে পাবে না।

He that shutteth his ear from the cry of the poor, even he, shall call, and not be answered.

14 ১৪ গোপন দান রাগ শান্ত করে এবং গোপনভাবে দেওয়া উপহার শান্ত করে প্রচন্ড ক্রোধ।

A gift in secret, quencheth anger, and, a present in the bosom, mighty wrath.

15 ১৫ ন্যায় আচরণ ধার্ম্মিকের পক্ষে আনন্দ, কিন্তু অধর্মাচারীদের পক্ষে তা সর্বনাশ।

It is a joy, to a righteous man, to do justice, but, dismay, to the workers of iniquity.

16 ১৬ যে বুদ্ধির পথ ছেড়ে ঘুরে বেড়ায়, সে মৃতদের সমাজে থাকবে।

The man who wandereth from the way of discretion, in the gathered host of the shades, shall settle down.

17 ১৭ যে আমোদ ভালবাসে, সে গরিব হবে; যে আঙ্গুর রস ও তেল ভালবাসে, সে ধনবান হবে না।

A needy man, shall he be that loveth merriment, the lover of wine and oil, shall not become rich.

18 ১৮ দুষ্ট ধার্ম্মিকদের মুক্তিপণস্বরূপ, বিশ্বাসঘাতক সরলদের পরিবর্ত্তস্বরূপ।

A ransom for the righteous, is the lawless, and, instead of upright men, the traitor.

19 ১৯ বরং নির্জন ভূমিতে বাস করা ভাল, তবু বিবাদিন বন্দিনী ও অভিযোগকারী স্ত্রীর সঙ্গে বাস করা ভাল নয়।

Better to dwell in a desert land, than with a woman, quarrelsome and provoking.

20 ২০ জ্ঞানীর নিবাসে মূল্যবান ধনকোষ ও তেল আছে; কিন্তু নির্বোধ তা নষ্ট করে।

Desirable treasure and oil, are in the home of the wise, but, a man who is a dullard, will destroy it.

21 ২১ যে ধার্মিকতার ও দয়ার কাজ করে, সে জীবন, ধার্ম্মিকতা ও সম্মান পায়।

He that pursueth righteousness and lovingkindness, shall find life, righteousness and honour.

22 ২২ জ্ঞানী বলবানদের নগর আক্রমণ করে এবং তার নির্ভর স্থানের শক্তি নত করে।

A city of heroes, doth a wise man scale, and bringeth down the strength of its confidence.

23 ২৩ যে কেউ নিজের মুখ ও জিহ্বা রক্ষা করে, সে বিপদ থেকে নিজের প্রাণ রক্ষা করে।

He that keepeth his mouth and his tongue, keepeth, out of distresses, his soul.

24 ২৪ যে গর্বিত ও অহঙ্কারী, তার নাম উপহাসক; সে গর্বের প্রাবল্যে কাজ করে।

A haughty insolent one—Scoffer is his name, is he that acteth in a transport of pride.

25 ২৫ অলসের অভিলাষ তাকে মেরে ফেলে, কারণ তার হাত কাজ করতে অসন্মত।

The craving of the sluggard, killeth him, for his hands have refused to work.

26 ২৬ কেউ সমস্ত দিন চায় আরো চায়; কিন্তু ধার্মিক দান করে, অনিচ্ছা প্রকাশ করে না।

All the day, he greatly craveth, whereas, the righteous, giveth, and doth not spare.

27 ২৭ দুষ্টদের বলিদান ঘৃণিত, দুষ্ট আচরণ আসলে তা আরও ঘৃণার্হ।

The sacrifice of the lawless, is an abomination, how much more, when, with wickedness, he bringeth it in!

28 ২৮ মিথ্যাসাক্ষী বিনষ্ট হবে; কিন্তু যে ব্যক্তি শোনে, তার কথা চিরস্থায়ী।

A false witness, shall perish, but, the man who hearkeneth, with abiding effect, shall speak.

29 ২৯ দুষ্ট লোক নিজের মুখ শক্ত করে; কিন্তু যে সরল, সে নিজের পথ সুস্থির করে।

A lawless man emboldeneth his face, but, as for the upright, he, directeth his ways.

30 ৩০ জ্ঞান নেই, বুদ্ধি নেই, উপদেশ নেই যা সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধে দাঁড়াতে পারবে।

There is no wisdom, nor understanding, nor counsel, to confront Yahweh.

31 ৩১ যুদ্ধের দিনের র জন্য ঘোড়া সুসজ্জিত হয়; কিন্তু বিজয় সদাপ্রভু থেকে হয়।

The horse, is prepared for the day of battle, but, to Yahweh, pertaineth the victory.
