হিতোপদেশ 19

1 ১ যার কথাবার্তা বিকৃত এবং বোকা তার থেকে যে সততায় চলে সে ভালো।

Better is the poor that walks in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

2 ২ এছাড়া, ইচ্ছা জ্ঞানবিহীন হলে মঙ্গল নেই এবং যে তাড়াতাড়ি দৌড়ায়, সে নিজের পথে ব্যর্থ হয়।

Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hastens with his feet sins.

3 ৩ মানুষের বোকামিতা তার জীবনের সর্বনাশ এবং তার হৃদয় সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধে দারুণ ক্রোধ করে।

The foolishness of man perverts his way: and his heart frets against the LORD.

4 ৪ অর্থ অনেক বন্ধুকে একত্রিত করে; কিন্তু গরিব লোক নিজের বন্ধুর থেকে আলাদা হয়।

Wealth makes many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbor.

5 ৫ মিথ্যাসাক্ষী অদন্ডিত থাকবে না, যে মিথ্যা কথা বলে সে মুক্তি পাবে না।

A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall not escape.

6 ৬ অনেকে উদার ব্যক্তির অনুগ্রহ চায় এবং যে উপহার দেয় সবাই তার বন্ধু হয়।

Many will entreat the favor of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that gives gifts.

7 ৭ গরিব লোকের ভাইয়েরা সবাই তাকে ঘৃণা করে, আরও নিশ্চয়, তার বন্ধুরা তার থেকে দূরে যায়; সে অনুনয়ের সঙ্গে তাদের খোঁজ করে, কিন্তু তারা চলে গেছে।

All the brothers of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursues them with words, yet they are wanting to him.

8 ৮ যে বুদ্ধি পায়, সে নিজের প্রাণকে ভালবাসে, যে বিবেচনা রক্ষা করে, সে যা ভালো তাই পায়।

He that gets wisdom loves his own soul: he that keeps understanding shall find good.

9 ৯ মিথ্যাসাক্ষী অদন্ডিত থাকবে না, কিন্তু যে মিথ্যা কথা বলে সে বিনষ্ট হবে।

A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall perish.

10 ১০ বিলাসিতায় বাস করা একজন নির্বোধের পক্ষে মানানসই নয়, নেতাদের ওপরে কর্তৃত্ব করা দাসের জন্যে আরও অনুপযুক্ত।

Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.

11 ১১ বিচক্ষণতা একজন মানুষকে ক্রোধে ধীর করে এবং দোষ উপেক্ষা করা তার গৌরব।

The discretion of a man defers his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

12 ১২ রাজার ক্রোধ তরুণ সিংহের গর্জনের মতো; কিন্তু তাঁর অনুগ্রহ ঘাসের ওপরের শিশিরের মতো।

The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favor is as dew on the grass.

13 ১৩ নির্বোধ ছেলে তার বাবার সর্বনাশজনক, আর স্ত্রীর বিবাদ হল অবিরত ঝরে পড়া জল।

A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

14 ১৪ বাড়ি ও অর্থ বাবা মায়ের অধিকার; কিন্তু বুদ্ধিমতী স্ত্রী হল সদাপ্রভু থেকে।

House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.

15 ১৫ অলসতা গভীর ঘুমে নিক্ষেপ করে কিন্তু যে কাজ করতে চায় না সে ক্ষুধার্ত হয়।

Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

16 ১৬ যে আদেশ মেনে চলে, সে নিজের প্রাণ রক্ষা করে; যে নিজের পথের বিষয়ে ভাবে না, সে মারা যাবে।

He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul; but he that despises his ways shall die.

17 ১৭ যে গরিবকে দয়া করে, সে সদাপ্রভুকে ঋণ দেয় এবং তিনি তাকে পরিশোধ করবেন যা তিনি করেছেন।

He that has pity on the poor lends to the LORD; and that which he has given will he pay him again.

18 ১৮ তোমার সন্তানকে নিয়ন্ত্রণ কর, যেহেতু আশা আছে এবং তোমার হৃদয় তাকে মৃত্যুদন্ড দেবার জন্য দৃঢ়সঙ্কল্প না করুক।

Chasten your son while there is hope, and let not your soul spare for his crying.

19 ১৯ উগ্রস্বভাবের লোক অবশ্যই শাস্তি পাবে; যদি তাকে উদ্ধার কর, তোমাকে দ্বিতীয়বার করতে হবে।

A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if you deliver him, yet you must do it again.

20 ২০ পরামর্শ শোনো, নির্দেশ গ্রহণ কর, যেন তুমি তোমার জীবনের শেষে জ্ঞানবান হও।

Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.

21 ২১ মানুষের হৃদয়ে অনেক পরিকল্পনা হয় কিন্তু সদাপ্রভুরই উদ্দেশ্য স্থির থাকবে।

There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

22 ২২ মানুষের হৃদয়ে সে যা সিদ্ধান্ত করে তা তার নির্ধারিত সত্য রূপে পরিগণিত হয়, একজন গরিব লোক হওয়া ভাল।

The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.

23 ২৩ সদাপ্রভুর ভয় জীবনের দিকে অগ্রসর হয়, যার তা আছে, সে সন্তুষ্ট হয়, সে ক্ষতির দ্বারা নির্যাতিত হয় না।

The fear of the LORD tends to life: and he that has it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

24 ২৪ অলস থালায় হাত ডুবায় এবং সে আবার মুখে দিতেও চায় না।

A slothful man hides his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

25 ২৫ উপহাসককে প্রহার কর, অশিক্ষিত বুদ্ধিমান হবে; যে উপলব্ধি করে তাকে অনুযোগ কর এবং সে জ্ঞানলাভ করবে।

Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that has understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

26 ২৬ যে তার বাবার প্রতি চুরি করে মাকে তাড়িয়ে দেয়, সে লজ্জাকর ও অপমানজনক সন্তান।

He that wastes his father, and chases away his mother, is a son that causes shame, and brings reproach.

27 ২৭ হে আমার পুত্র, নির্দেশ শুনতে ক্ষান্ত হলে তুমি জ্ঞানের কথা হইতে বিপথগামী হবে।

Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causes to err from the words of knowledge.

28 ২৮ যে সাক্ষী অসৎ, সে বিচারের উপহাস করে, দুষ্টদের মুখ অধর্ম্ম গ্রাস করে।

An ungodly witness scorns judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.

29 ২৯ প্রস্তুত রহিয়াছে উপহাসকদের জন্যে দন্ডাজ্ঞা, মূর্খদের পিঠের জন্যে প্রহার।

Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
