হিতোপদেশ 16

1 ১ হৃদয়ের পরিকল্পনা মানুষের মধ্যে থাকে, কিন্তু জিহ্বার উত্তর সদাপ্রভু থেকে হয়।

The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, [are] from the LORD.

2 ২ মানুষের সমস্ত রাস্তা নিজের চোখে বিশুদ্ধ; কিন্তু সদাপ্রভুই আত্মা সব ওজন করেন।

All the ways of a man [are] clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.

3 ৩ তোমার কাজের ভার সদাপ্রভুতে সমর্পণ কর, তাতে তোমার পরিকল্পনা সব সফল হবে।

Commit thy works to the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

4 ৪ সদাপ্রভু সবই নিজের উদ্দেশ্যে করেছেন, দুষ্টকেও বিপদের দিনের র জন্যে করেছেন।

The LORD hath made all [things] for himself: yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.

5 ৫ যে কেউ হৃদয়ে গর্বিত, তাকে সদাপ্রভু ঘৃণা করেন, হাতে হাত দিয়ে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকলেও সে অদন্ডিত থাকবে না।

Every one [that is] proud in heart [is] an abomination to the LORD: [though] hand [join] in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

6 ৬ চুক্তির বিশ্বস্ততায় ও বিশ্বাসযোগ্যতায় অপরাধের প্রায়শ্চিত্ত হয়, আর সদাপ্রভুর ভয়ে মানুষ মন্দ থেকে সরে যায়।

By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD [men] depart from evil.

7 ৭ মানুষের পথ যখন সদাপ্রভুর আনন্দদায়ক হয়, এমনকি তিনি তার শত্রুদেরকেও তার সঙ্গে শান্তিতে থাকতে সাহায্য করেন।

When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

8 ৮ ধার্মিকতার সঙ্গে অল্পও ভাল, তবু অন্যায়ের সঙ্গে প্রচুর আয় ভাল নয়।

Better [is] a little with righteousness, than great revenues without right.

9 ৯ মানুষের মন নিজের পথের বিষয় পরিকল্পনা করে; কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু তার পদক্ষেপ নির্দেশ করেন;

A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

10 ১০ রাজার ঠোঁটে ঈশ্বরের বাণী থাকে, বিচারে তাঁর মুখ মিথ্যা কথা বলবে না।

A divine sentence [is] in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.

11 ১১ খাঁটি দাঁড়িপাল্লা সদাপ্রভুর থেকে আসে; থলির বাটখারা সব তাঁর করা জিনিস।

A just weight and balance [are] the LORD'S: all the weights of the bag [are] his work.

12 ১২ যখন রাজারা খারাপ কাজ করে সেটা ঘৃণার বিষয় হয়; কারণ ধার্ম্মিকতায় সিংহাসন স্থির থাকে।

[It is] an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.

13 ১৩ ধর্মশীল ঠোঁটে রাজা খুশি হন এবং তিনি তাকে ভালবাসেন যে সরাসরি কথা বলে।

Righteous lips [are] the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.

14 ১৪ রাজার ক্রোধ হল মৃত্যুর দূত; কিন্তু জ্ঞানবান লোক তার রাগ শান্ত করে।

The wrath of a king [is as] messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.

15 ১৫ রাজার মুখের আলোতে জীবন, তাঁর অনুগ্রহ মেঘের মতো যা বসন্তের বৃষ্টি আনে।

In the light of a king's countenance [is] life; and his favor [is] as a cloud of the latter rain.

16 ১৬ সোনার থেকে প্রজ্ঞালাভ কত ভালো। রূপার থেকে বিবেচনালাভ ভালো।

How much better [is it] to get wisdom than gold? and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver?

17 ১৭ মন্দ থেকে সরে যাওয়াই সরলদের রাজপথ; যে নিজের পথ রক্ষা করে, সে প্রাণ বাঁচায়।

The highway of the upright [is] to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.

18 ১৮ ধ্বংসের আগে অহঙ্কার এবং পতনের আগে অহঙ্কারী আত্মা।

Pride [goeth] before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

19 ১৯ অহঙ্কারীদের সঙ্গে লুট ভাগ করার থেকে গরিবদের সঙ্গে নম্র হয়ে থাকা এটা ভালো।

Better [it is to be] of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

20 ২০ যে বাক্যে মন দেয়, সে মঙ্গল খুঁজে পায় এবং যে সদাপ্রভুতে নির্ভর করে, সে সুখী।

He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoever trusteth in the LORD, happy [is] he.

21 ২১ হৃদয়ে জ্ঞানী বুদ্ধিমান বলে আখ্যাত হয় এবং কথার মধুরতা শিক্ষার সক্ষমতাতে উন্নত করে।

The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.

22 ২২ বিবেচনা হল জীবনের ঝরনা যার এটি আছে; কিন্তু নির্বোধমিতা নির্বোধদের শাস্তি।

Understanding [is] a well-spring of life to him that hath it: but the instruction of fools [is] folly.

23 ২৩ জ্ঞানবানের হৃদয় তার মুখকে বিচক্ষণ করে, তার ঠোঁট শিক্ষায় উন্নত করবে।

The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.

24 ২৪ সুন্দর শব্দ হল মৌচাক; তা প্রাণের জন্যে মিষ্টি, হাড়ের জন্যে স্বাস্থ্যকর।

Pleasant words [are as] a honey-comb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

25 ২৫ একটি পথ আছে, যা মানুষের দৃষ্টিতে ঠিক, কিন্তু তার শেষ হল মৃত্যুর পথ।

There is a way that seemeth right to a man, but the end of it [is] the ways of death.

26 ২৬ পরিশ্রমী তার ক্ষিদের জন্য কাজ করে; তার ক্ষিদে তাকে তাড়না করে।

He that laboreth laboreth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.

27 ২৭ অযোগ্য লোক খুঁড়ে অকাজ তোলে, তার কথা জ্বলন্ত আগুনের মতো।

An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips [there is] as a burning fire.

28 ২৮ বিপথগামী লোক বিবাদ খুলে দেয়, পরচর্চা ঘনিষ্ঠ বন্ধুদের আলাদা করে।

A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.

29 ২৯ অত্যাচারী প্রতিবেশীকে মিথ্যা কথা বলে এবং তাকে একটি পথে চালিত করে যেটা ভালো নয়।

A violent man enticeth his neighbor, and leadeth him into the way [that is] not good.

30 ৩০ যে চোখে ইশারা করে, সে বিপথগামী বিষয়ের কুমন্ত্রণা করে, যে ঠোঁট সঙ্কুচিত করে, সে মন্দ বয়ে আনে।

He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.

31 ৩১ ধূসর চুল গৌরবের মুকুট; তা ধার্মিকতার পথে থেকে পাওয়া যায়।

The hoary head [is] a crown of glory, [if] it is found in the way of righteousness.

32 ৩২ যে রাগে ধীর, সে বীর থেকেও ভালো এবং যে নিজের আত্মার শাসন করে সে এক শহর-জয়কারী থেকেও শক্তিশালী।

[He that is] slow to anger [is] better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit, than he that taketh a city.

33 ৩৩ গুঁলিবাট কোলে ফেলা যায়, কিন্তু মীমাংসা সদাপ্রভু থেকে হয়।

The lot is cast into the lap: but the whole disposing of it [is] from the LORD.
