হিতোপদেশ 14

1 ১ জ্ঞানী স্ত্রী তার বাড়ি নির্মাণ করে; কিন্তু মূর্খ স্ত্রী নিজের হাতে তা ভেঙে ফেলে।

Every wise woman builds her house: but the foolish plucks it down with her hands.

2 ২ যে নিজের সরলতায় চলে, সেই সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করে; কিন্তু যে তার পথে অসৎ, সে তাঁকে অবজ্ঞা করে।

He that walks in his uprightness fears the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despises him.

3 ৩ নির্বোধের মুখে অহঙ্কারের ফল থাকে; কিন্তু জ্ঞানবানদের ঠোঁট তাদেরকে রক্ষা করে।

In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

4 ৪ গরু না থাকলে যাবপাত্র পরিষ্কার থাকে; কিন্তু বলদের শক্তিতে ফসলের প্রাচুর্য্য হয়।

Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

5 ৫ বিশ্বস্ত সাক্ষী মিথ্যা কথা বলে না; কিন্তু মিথ্যাসাক্ষী অসত্য কথা বলে।

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

6 ৬ উপহাসক প্রজ্ঞার খোঁজ করে, আর তা পায় না; কিন্তু যে উপলব্ধি করে তার পক্ষে জ্ঞান সহজ।

A scorner seeks wisdom, and finds it not: but knowledge is easy to him that understands.

7 ৭ তুমি নির্বোধ লোকের থেকে দূরে যাও, কারণ তার ঠোঁটে জ্ঞান পাবে না।

Go from the presence of a foolish man, when you perceive not in him the lips of knowledge.

8 ৮ নিজের রাস্তা বুঝে নেওয়া বিচক্ষণের প্রজ্ঞা, কিন্তু নির্বোধদের নির্বোধমিতা ছলনা।

The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.

9 ৯ নির্বোধেরা দোষকে উপহাস করে, কিন্তু ধার্ম্মিকদের কাছে অনুগ্রহ থাকে।

Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favor.

10 ১০ হৃদয় নিজের তিক্ততা জানে এবং অপর লোক তার আনন্দের ভাগী হতে পারে না।

The heart knows his own bitterness; and a stranger does not intermeddle with his joy.

11 ১১ দুষ্টদের বাড়ি ধ্বংস হবে, কিন্তু সরলদের তাঁবু সতেজ হবে।

The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

12 ১২ একটি রাস্তা আছে, যা মানুষের দৃষ্টিতে ঠিক, কিন্তু তার শেষ মৃত্যুর পথ।

There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

13 ১৩ হাঁসার দিনের ও হৃদয়ে দুঃখ হয়, আর আনন্দের পরিণাম বিষাদ।

Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.

14 ১৪ যে মনে বিপথগামী, সে নিজ আচরণে পূর্ণ হয়; কিন্তু সৎ লোক নিজে থেকে তৃপ্ত হয়।

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

15 ১৫ যে অবোধ, সে সব কিছুতে বিশ্বাস করে, কিন্তু বুদ্ধিমান লোক নিজের পদক্ষেপের বিষয়ে ভাবে।

The simple believes every word: but the prudent man looks well to his going.

16 ১৬ জ্ঞানবান সতর্ক থাকে, তারা খারাপ থেকে সরে যায়; কিন্তু নির্বোধ অভিমানী ও সাবধানী।

A wise man fears, and departs from evil: but the fool rages, and is confident.

17 ১৭ যে তাড়াতাড়ি রেগে যায় সে নির্বোধের কাজ করে, আর খারাপ পরিকল্পনাকারী ঘৃণিত হয়।

He that is soon angry deals foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

18 ১৮ মূর্খদের অধিকার অজ্ঞানতা; কিন্তু বিচক্ষণেরা জ্ঞানে পরিবেষ্টিত হয়।

The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19 ১৯ খারাপরা ভালোদের সামনে নত হয় এবং দুষ্টেরা ধার্ম্মিকের দরজায় নত হয়।

The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

20 ২০ গরিব লোক নিজের প্রতিবেশীর মাধ্যমে ঘৃণিত, কিন্তু ধনী লোকের অনেক বন্ধু আছে।

The poor is hated even of his own neighbor: but the rich has many friends.

21 ২১ যে প্রতিবেশীকে অবজ্ঞা করে, সে পাপ করে; কিন্তু যে গরিবদের প্রতি দয়া করে, সে সুখী।

He that despises his neighbor sins: but he that has mercy on the poor, happy is he.

22 ২২ যারা খারাপ চক্রান্ত করে, তারা কি ভ্রান্ত হয় না? কিন্তু যারা ভালো পরিকল্পনা করে, তারা চুক্তির বিশ্বস্ততা ও বিশ্বাসযোগ্যতা পায়।

Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.

23 ২৩ সমস্ত পরিশ্রমেই লাভ হয়, কিন্তু শুধু কথাবার্তায় অভাব ঘটায়।

In all labor there is profit: but the talk of the lips tends only to penury.

24 ২৪ জ্ঞানবানদের ধনই তাদের মুকুট; কিন্তু নির্বোধদের নির্বোধমিতা মূর্খতামাত্র।

The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.

25 ২৫ সত্য সাক্ষ্য লোকের জীবন রক্ষা করে; কিন্তু যে মিথ্যা সাক্ষ্যের কথা বলে, সে ছলনা করে।

A true witness delivers souls: but a deceitful witness speaks lies.

26 ২৬ সদাপ্রভুর ভয় দৃঢ় আত্মবিশ্বাস; তাঁর সন্তানরা আশ্রয় স্থান পাবে।

In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

27 ২৭ সদাপ্রভুর ভয় জীবনের ঝরনা, তা মৃত্যুর ফাঁদ থেকে দূরে সরে যাবার রাস্তা।

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

28 ২৮ প্রচুর লোকের জন্যে রাজার আনন্দ আসে; কিন্তু লোকদের অভাবে ভূপতির সর্বনাশ ঘটে।

In the multitude of people is the king’s honor: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

29 ২৯ একজন ধৈর্য্যশীল মানুষ প্রচুর বোধশক্তিসম্পন্ন, কিন্তু উগ্র মেজাজি নির্বোধমিতা তুলে ধরে।

He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

30 ৩০ শান্ত হৃদয় শরীরের জীবন; কিন্তু হিংসা হাড়ের পচনস্বরূপ।

A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

31 ৩১ যে গরিবের প্রতি অত্যাচার করে, সে তার নির্মাতাকে অভিশাপ দেয়; কিন্তু যে দরিদ্রের প্রতি দয়া করে, সে তাঁকে সম্মান করে।

He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: but he that honors him has mercy on the poor.

32 ৩২ দুষ্ট লোক নিজের খারাপ কাজে পড়ে যায়, কিন্তু ধার্মিক তাদের সত্যতায় আশ্রয় পায়।

The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death.

33 ৩৩ জ্ঞানবানের হৃদয় প্রজ্ঞা বিশ্রাম করে, কিন্তু নির্বোধদের মধ্যে যা থাকে, তা জানা।

Wisdom rests in the heart of him that has understanding: but that which is in the middle of fools is made known.

34 ৩৪ ধার্ম্মিকতা জাতিকে উন্নত করে, কিন্তু পাপে যে কোনো লোকের মর্যাদাহানি হয়।

Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

35 ৩৫ যে দাস বুদ্ধিপূর্ব্বক চলে, তার প্রতি রাজার অনুগ্রহ আসে; কিন্তু লজ্জাদায়ী তাঁর রাগের পাত্র হয়।

The king’s favor is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causes shame.
