হিতোপদেশ 11

1 ১ যে দাঁড়িপাল্লা সঠিক নয় সেটা সদাপ্রভু ঘৃণা করেন; কিন্তু সঠিক ওজনে তিনি সন্তুষ্ট হন।

A false balance [is] abomination to the LORD: but a just weight [is] his delight.

2 ২ অহঙ্কার আসলে অপমানও আসে; কিন্তু মানবিকতার সঙ্গে প্রজ্ঞা আসে।

[When] pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly [is] wisdom.

3 ৩ সরলদের ন্যায়পরায়ণতা তাদেরকে পথ দেখাবে; কিন্তু বিশ্বাসঘাতকদের বক্রতা তাদেরকে নষ্ট করবে।

The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

4 ৪ ক্রোধের দিনের ধন উপকার করে না; কিন্তু ধার্ম্মিকতা মৃত্যু থেকে রক্ষা করে।

Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

5 ৫ নির্দোষ লোকের ধার্ম্মিকতা তার পথ সোজা করে; কিন্তু দুষ্ট নিজের দুষ্টতায় পড়ে যায়।

The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

6 ৬ যারা ধার্ম্মিকতায় ঈশ্বরকে সন্তুষ্ট করে তাদেরকে রক্ষা করে; কিন্তু বিশ্বাসঘাতকেরা তাদের অভিলাষে ধরা পড়ে।

The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in [their own] naughtiness.

7 ৭ যখন দুষ্ট লোক মারা যায়, তার আশ্বাস নষ্ট হয় এবং অধর্ম্মের প্রত্যাশা বিনাশ পায়।

When a wicked man dieth, [his] expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust [men] perisheth.

8 ৮ ধার্মিক বিপদ থেকে উদ্ধার পায়, আর দুষ্ট তার জায়গায় আসে।

The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.

9 ৯ তার মুখের মাধ্যমে অধার্ম্মিক নিজের প্রতিবেশীকে নষ্ট করে; কিন্তু জ্ঞানের মাধ্যমে ধার্মিকরা উদ্ধার পায়।

A hypocrite with [his] mouth destroyeth his neighbor: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.

10 ১০ ধার্ম্মিকদের উন্নতি হলে নগরে আনন্দ হয়; দুষ্টদের বিনাশ হলে আনন্দগান হয়।

When the righteous prosper, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, [there is] shouting.

11 ১১ সরলদের আশীর্বাদে নগর উন্নত হয়; কিন্তু দুষ্টদের বাক্যে তা বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়।

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

12 ১২ যে প্রতিবেশীকে অবজ্ঞা করে, সে বুদ্ধিবিহীন; কিন্তু বুদ্ধিমান নীরব হয়ে থাকে।

He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbor: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

13 ১৩ পরচর্চা গোপন কথা প্রকাশ করে; কিন্তু যে বিশ্বস্ত লোক, সে কথা গোপন করে।

A tale-bearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.

14 ১৪ সুমন্ত্রণার অভাবে প্রজালোক পড়ে যায়; কিন্তু পরামর্শকারী উপদেষ্টার মাধ্যমে নিরাপত্তা আসে।

Where no counsel [is], the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors [there is] safety.

15 ১৫ যে অপরের জামিন হয়, সে নিশ্চয় কষ্ট পায়; কিন্তু যে জামিনের কাজ ঘৃণা করে, সে নিরাপদ।

He that is surety for a stranger shall smart [for it]: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.

16 ১৬ করুণাময়ী স্ত্রী সম্মান ধরে রাখে, আর নিষ্ঠুর মানুষেরা ধন ধরে রাখে।

A gracious woman retaineth honor: and strong [men] retain riches.

17 ১৭ দয়ালু নিজের প্রাণের উপকার করে; কিন্তু নির্দয় নিজেকে ক্ষতি করে।

The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but [he that is] cruel troubleth his own flesh.

18 ১৮ দুষ্ট মিথ্যা বেতন উপার্জন করে; কিন্তু যে ধার্মিকতার বীজ বুনে, সে সত্য বেতন পায়।

The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness [shall be] a sure reward.

19 ১৯ যে ধার্ম্মিকতায় অটল, সে জীবন পায়; কিন্তু যে দুষ্টতার পিছনে দৌড়ে, সে মারা যায়।

As righteousness [tendeth] to life: so he that pursueth evil [pursueth it] to his own death.

20 ২০ সদাপ্রভু তাদেরকে ঘৃণা করেন যাদের হৃদয় বিপথগামী; কিন্তু যারা নিজের পথে নিখুঁত, তারা তাঁর তুষ্টিকর।

They that are of a froward heart [are] abomination to the LORD: but [such as are] upright in [their] way [are] his delight.

21 ২১ এটা নিশ্চিত যে দুষ্ট অদন্ডিত থাকবে না; কিন্তু ধার্ম্মিকদের বংশ রক্ষা পাবে।

[Though] hand [join] in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

22 ২২ যেমন শূকরের নাকে সোনার নথ, তেমনি বিচক্ষণতাহীন সুন্দরী স্ত্রী।

[As] a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, [so is] a fair woman who is without discretion.

23 ২৩ ধার্ম্মিকদের মনের ইচ্ছা কেবল উত্তম, কিন্তু দুষ্টদের প্রত্যাশা ক্রোধমাত্র।

The desire of the righteous [is] only good: [but] the expectation of the wicked [is] wrath.

24 ২৪ কেউ কেউ বিতরণ করে আরও বৃদ্ধি পায়; কেউ কেউ বা ন্যায্য ব্যয় অস্বীকার করে কেবল অভাবে পড়ে।

There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and [there is] that withholdeth more than is meet, but [it tendeth] to poverty.

25 ২৫ দানশীল ব্যক্তি উন্নতিলাভ করে, জল-সেচনকারী নিজেও জলে ভেজে।

The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

26 ২৬ যে শস্য আটক করে রাখে, লোকে তাকে শাপ দেয়; কিন্তু যে শস্য বিক্রি করে, তার মাথায় পুরষ্কার আসে।

He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing [shall be] upon the head of him that selleth [it].

27 ২৭ যে সযত্নে ভালো চেষ্টা করে, সে প্রীতির খোঁজ করে; কিন্তু যে অমঙ্গল খুঁজে বেড়ায়, তারই প্রতি তা ঘটে।

He that diligently seeketh good procureth favor: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come to him.

28 ২৮ যে নিজের ধনে নির্ভর করে, সে পড়ে যায়; কিন্তু ধার্মিকরা সতেজ পাতার মতো প্রফুল্ল হয়।

He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

29 ২৯ যে নিজের পরিবারের বিপত্তি, সে বায়ু অধিকার পায় এবং নির্বোধ জ্ঞানী হৃদয়ের দাস হয়।

He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool [shall be] servant to the wise of heart.

30 ৩০ ধার্ম্মিকের ফল জীবনবৃক্ষ কিন্তু জ্ঞানবান [অপরদের] প্রাণ লাভ করে।

The fruit of the righteous [is] a tree of life; and he that winneth souls [is] wise.

31 ৩১ দেখ, পৃথিবীতে ধার্মিক প্রতিফল পায়, তবে দুষ্ট ও পাপী আরও কত না পাবে;

Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed upon the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
