1 ১ পৃথিবীতে কি প্রত্যেক মানুষকে কঠোর পরিশ্রম করতে হয় না? তার দিন গুলো কি ভাড়া করা মানুষের মত নয়?

Is there not an appointed time to man vpon earth? and are not his dayes as the dayes of an hyreling?

2 ২ যেমন একজন দাস আগ্রহের সঙ্গে সন্ধ্যার ছায়ার অপেক্ষা করে, যেমন একজন ভাড়া করা কাজের লোক তার মজুরীর চেষ্টা করে,

As a seruant longeth for the shadowe, and as an hyreling looketh for the ende of his worke,

3 ৩ তাই আমি কষ্টের মাসগুলো সহ্য করতে পেরেছি; আমায় কষ্ট পূর্ণ রাতগুলো দেওয়া হয়েছে।

So haue I had as an inheritance the moneths of vanitie, and painefull nights haue bene appointed vnto me.

4 ৪ যখন আমি শুই, আমি নিজেকে বলি, কখন আমি উঠব এবং কখন রাত শেষ হবে? আমি ছটফট করতে থাকি এবং এখানে ওখানে ঘুরে বেড়াই যতক্ষণ না সকাল হয়।

If I layed me downe, I sayde, When shall I arise? and measuring the euening I am euen full with tossing to and from vnto the dawning of the day.

5 ৫ আমার মাংস পোকায় এবং মাটির ঢেলায় ঢাকা; আমার চামড়ার ঘাগুলো শক্ত হয়ে ওঠেছে এবং তারপর গলে গেছে এবং আবার নতুন করে হয়েছে।

My flesh is clothed with wormes and filthinesse of the dust: my skinne is rent, and become horrible.

6 ৬ তাঁতিদের তাঁত বোনা যন্ত্রের থেকেও আমার জীবনের আয়ু দ্রুতগামী; তারা আশাহীন ভাবে শেষ হয়।

My dayes are swifter then a weauers shittle, and they are spent without hope.

7 ৭ ঈশ্বর, স্মরণ কর যে আমার জীবন শুধু শ্বাসমাত্র; আমার চোখ আর কখন ভালো দেখতে পাবে না।

Remember that my life is but a wind, and that mine eye shall not returne to see pleasure.

8 ৮ ঈশ্বরের চোখ, যা আমায় দেখে, আর আমায় দেখতে পাবে না; ঈশ্বরের চোখ আমার ওপরে থাকবে, কিন্তু আমার অস্তিত্ব থাকবে না।

The eye that hath seene me, shall see me no more: thine eyes are vpon me, and I shall be no longer.

9 ৯ একটি মেঘ যেমন ক্ষয় পায় এবং অদৃশ্য হয়ে যায়, তাই যে পাতালে নেমে যায় সে আর উঠবে না। (Sheol h7585)

As the cloude vanisheth and goeth away, so he that goeth downe to the graue, shall come vp no more. (Sheol h7585)

10 ১০ সে আর তার ঘরে ফিরবে না; না তার জায়গা তাকে আর চিনবে।

He shall returne no more to his house, neither shall his place knowe him any more.

11 ১১ এই জন্য আমি আর আমার মুখ সংযত করব না; আমি আমার আত্মার যন্ত্রণায় কথা বলব; আমি আমার প্রাণের তিক্ততায় অভিযোগ করব।

Therefore I will not spare my mouth, but will speake in the trouble of my spirite, and muse in the bitternesse of my minde.

12 ১২ আমি কি সমুদ্র অথবা আমি কি সমুদ্রের দৈত্য, যে তুমি আমার ওপর পাহারা বসিয়েছ রেখেছ?

Am I a sea or a whalefish, that thou keepest me in warde?

13 ১৩ যখন আমি বলি, আমার বিছানা আমায় আরাম দেবে এবং আমার খাট আমার অভিযোগকে শান্ত করবে,

When I say, My couch shall relieue me, and my bed shall bring comfort in my meditation,

14 ১৪ তখন তুমি আমায় স্বপ্নে ভয় দেখাবে এবং বিভিন্ন দর্শনে আমায় আতঙ্কিত করবে,

Then fearest thou me with dreames, and astonishest me with visions.

15 ১৫ তাতে আমার প্রাণ শ্বাসরোধ চায় এবং আমার এই অস্থিকঙ্কাল অপেক্ষা মৃত্যু চায়।

Therefore my soule chuseth rather to be strangled and to die, then to be in my bones.

16 ১৬ আমি আমার জীবন ঘৃণা করি; আমি সব দিন বেঁচে থাকতে চাই না; আমাকে একা থাকতে দাও কারণ আমার আয়ু বেকার।

I abhorre it, I shall not liue alway: spare me then, for my dayes are but vanitie.

17 ১৭ মানুষ কি, যে তোমায় তার দিকে মনোযোগ দিতে হবে, যে তোমায় তার ওপর লক্ষ্য রাখতে হবে,

What is man, that thou doest magnifie him, and that thou settest thine heart vpon him?

18 ১৮ যে তোমায় প্রত্যেক সকালে তাকে লক্ষ্য রাখতে হবে এবং তাকে প্রত্যেক মুহূর্তে পরীক্ষা করতে হবে?

And doest visite him euery morning, and tryest him euery moment?

19 ১৯ কতকাল এটা তোমার সামনে থাকবে, আমার থেকে চোখ সরাও, তোমার সামনে আমায় কি একটু একা থাকতে দেবে না, আমার নিজের থুতু গেলার জন্য?

Howe long will it be yer thou depart from me? thou wilt not let me alone whiles I may swallowe my spettle.

20 ২০ এমনকি যদিও আমি পাপ করেছি, তাতে তোমার কি হয়, কেন তুমি আমাকে তোমার লক্ষ্য বানালে, যাতে আমি তোমার জন্য বোঝা হই?

I haue sinned, what shall I do vnto thee? O thou preseruer of me, why hast thou set me as a marke against thee, so that I am a burden vnto my selfe?

21 ২১ কেন তুমি আমার পাপ ক্ষমা কর না এবং আমার অন্যায় নিয়ে নাও না? কারণ আমি কি এখন ধূলোয় শুয়ে পরব; তুমি আমায় যত্নসহকারে খুঁজবে, কিন্তু আমার কোন অস্তিত্ব থাকবে না।

And why doest thou not pardon my trespasse? and take away mine iniquitie? for nowe shall I sleepe in the dust, and if thou seekest me in the morning, I shall not be found.
