1 ১ তারপর ইয়োব উত্তর দিল এবং বলল,

And Job answers and says:

2 ২ উহু, যদি শুধু আমার যন্ত্রণা মাপা যেত; যদি শুধু আমার সমস্ত দুঃখ দাঁড়িপাল্লায় ওজন করা যেত!

“O that my provocation were thoroughly weighed, And my calamity in balances They would lift up together!

3 ৩ কারণ এখন এটা সমুদ্রের বালির থেকেও ভারী হবে। এই জন্যই আমার কথা এত বেপরোয়া।

For now it is heavier than the sands of the sea, Therefore my words have been rash.

4 ৪ কারণ সর্বশক্তিমানের তীর আমার মধ্যে, আমার আত্মা বিষ পান করেছে; ঈশ্বরের আতঙ্ক আমার বিরুদ্ধে দলবদ্ধ হয়েছে।

For arrows of the Mighty [are] with me, Whose poison is drinking up my spirit. Terrors of God array themselves [for] me!

5 ৫ বন্য গাধা কি হতাশ হয়ে চিত্কার করে যখন তার ঘাস থাকে? অথবা বলদ কি খিদেয় হতাশ হয় যখন সেটার খাবার থাকে?

Does a wild donkey bray over tender grass? Does an ox low over his provender?

6 ৬ যার স্বাদ নেই সেটা কি নুন ছাড়া খাওয়া যায়? অথবা ডিমের সাদা অংশে কি কোন স্বাদ আছে?

Is an insipid thing eaten without salt? Is there sense in the drivel of dreams?

7 ৭ আমি তাদের স্পর্শ করতে অস্বীকার করি; তারা আমার কাছে জঘন্য খাবারের মত।

My soul is refusing to touch! They [are] as my sickening food.

8 ৮ আহা, যদি আমি কেবল আমার প্রার্থনার উত্তর পেতে পারি; আহা, ঈশ্বর যেন আমায় সেই জিনিস দেন যা আমি চাই:

O that my request may come, That God may grant my hope!

9 ৯ আমি যদি চূর্ণ হতাম তবে এটা হয়ত ঈশ্বরকে খুশি করত, তিনি তাঁর হাত বাড়াবেন এবং এই জীবন থেকে কেটে ফেলবেন!

That God would please—and bruise me, Loose His hand and cut me off!

10 ১০ তবুও এটা আমার সান্ত্বনা হোক, এমনকি আমি যন্ত্রণাতেও আনন্দ করি, যে আমি সেই পবিত্র ব্যক্তির কথা অস্বীকার করি নি।

And yet it is my comfort (And I exult in pain—He does not spare), That I have not hidden The sayings of the Holy One.

11 ১১ আমার শক্তি কি, যে আমি অপেক্ষা করতে পারি? আমার শেষ কি, যে আমি ধৈর্য্য ধরতে পারি?

What [is] my power that I should hope? And what [is] my end that I should prolong my life?

12 ১২ আমার শক্তি কি পাথরের শক্তি? অথবা আমার মাংস কি পিতল দিয়ে তৈরী?

Is my strength the strength of stones? Is my flesh bronze?

13 ১৩ এটা কি সত্যি নয় যে আমার নিজের জন্য আমার কোন সাহায্য নেই এবং সেই জ্ঞান কি আমার থেকে দূর হয়ে গেছে?

Is my help not with me, And substance driven from me?

14 ১৪ সেই লোকের প্রতি যে প্রায় অজ্ঞান হতে চলেছে, তার বন্ধুর বিশ্বস্ততা দেখানো উচিত; এমনকি তার প্রতিও যে সর্বশক্তিমানের ভয় ত্যাগ করেছে।

To a despiser of his friends [is] shame, And the fear of the Mighty he forsakes.

15 ১৫ কিন্তু আমার ভায়েরা আমার প্রতি মরুপ্রান্তের প্রবাহের মত বিশ্বস্ত, যেমন বয়ে যায় জলের প্রবাহের মত।

My brothers have deceived as a brook, As a stream of brooks they pass away.

16 ১৬ যা বরফের জন্য অন্ধকারাছন্ন হয় এবং যার মধ্যে তুষার বিলীন হয়ে যায়।

That are black because of ice, By them snow hides itself.

17 ১৭ যখন তারা গলে যায়, তারা অদৃশ্য হয়; যখন তা উতপ্ত হয়, তারা তাদের জায়গায় গলে যায়।

By the time they are warm they have been cut off, By its being hot they have been Extinguished from their place.

18 ১৮ মরুযাত্রীর লোকেরা যারা সেই রাস্তা দিয়ে যায় এবং জলের জন্য সেই রাস্তা থেকে সরে যায়; তারা মরুপ্রান্তে ঘুরে বেড়ায় এবং পরে ধ্বংস হয়।

The paths turn aside of their way, They ascend into emptiness, and are lost.

19 ১৯ টেমার মরুযাত্রীর লোকেরা দেখল, যখন শিবার লোকেরা তাদের উপর আশা করেছিল।

Passengers of Tema looked expectingly, Travelers of Sheba hoped for them.

20 ২০ তারা হতাশ হয়েছিল কারণ তারা জল খোঁজার ব্যাপারে আত্মবিশ্বাসী ছিল; তারা সেখানে গেল, কিন্তু তারা প্রতারিত হল।

They were ashamed that one has trusted, They have come to it and are confounded.

21 ২১ কারণ এখন তোমরা বন্ধুরা আমার কাছে কিছুই নও; তোমরা আমার ভয়ঙ্কর অবস্থা দেখেছ এবং ভয় পেয়েছ।

Surely now you have become the same! You see a downfall, and are afraid.

22 ২২ আমি কি বলেছিলাম, আমাকে কিছু দাও? অথবা তোমাদের সম্পত্তি থেকে আমাকে উপহার দাও?

Is it because I said, Give to me? And, By your power bribe for me?

23 ২৩ অথবা, বিপক্ষের হাত থেকে আমাকে রক্ষা কর? অথবা, আমার অত্যাচারীর হাত থেকে আমায় রক্ষা কর?

And, Deliver me from the hand of an adversary? And, Ransom me from the hand of terrible ones?

24 ২৪ আমাকে শিক্ষা দাও এবং আমি আমার শান্তি ধরে রাখব; আমাকে বুঝিয়ে দাও কোথায় আমি ভুল করে এসেছি।

Show me, and I keep silent, And what I have erred, let me understand.

25 ২৫ সত্যি কথা কতটা যন্ত্রণা দেয়! কিন্তু তোমাদের তর্ক বিতর্ক, প্রকৃত পক্ষে সেগুলো কীভাবে আমাকে দোষী করে?

How powerful have been upright sayings, And what reproof from you reproves?

26 ২৬ তোমরা কি আমার কথা অগ্রাহ্য করার পরিকল্পনা করছ, একজন আশাহীন লোকের কথার আচরণ বাতাসের মত?

For reproof—do you reckon words? And for wind—sayings of the desperate?

27 ২৭ সত্যি, তোমরা এক অনাথের জন্য গুলিবাঁট করেছ, ব্যবসায়ীদের মত তোমাদের বন্ধুর ওপর দর কষাকষি করেছ।

You cause anger to fall on the fatherless, And are strange to your friend.

28 ২৮ এখন, এই জন্য, দয়া করে আমার দিকে দেখ, নিশ্চিত ভাবে আমি তোমাদের মুখের ওপর মিথ্যা বলব না।

And now, please, look on me, Even to your face do I lie?

29 ২৯ তোমরা ফিরে যাও, অন্যায় না হোক; আমি বলি ফিরে যাও, আমার অভিযোগ ন্যায্য।

Please turn back, let it not be perverseness, Indeed, turn back again—my righteousness [is] in it.

30 ৩০ আমার জিভে কি কোন মন্দতা আছে? আমার মুখ কি খারাপ জিনিস সনাক্ত করতে পারে না?

Is there perverseness in my tongue? Does my palate not discern calamity?”
