1 ১ যোশিয়ের ছেলে যিহূদার রাজা যিহোয়াকীমের রাজত্বের চতুর্থ বছরে সদাপ্রভুর এই বাক্য যিরমিয়ের কাছে এল। সেটি হল,
And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,
2 ২ “নিজের জন্য গুটানো একটি কাগজ নাও এবং তাতে সমস্ত কিছু লেখ, যা কিছু ইস্রায়েল, যিহূদা ও অন্যান্য জাতির বিষয় আমি তোমাকে বলেছি। যোশিয়ের দিন থেকে আজ পর্যন্ত যা বলেছি সেই সমস্ত কিছু।
Take thee a roll of a book, and write in it all the words that I have spoken to thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to thee, from the days of Josiah, even to this day.
3 ৩ হয়তো, যিহূদার লোকেদের সমস্ত অমঙ্গলের কথা শুনবে, যা আমি ঘটাবার পরিকল্পনা করেছি। হয়তো, প্রত্যেকে তাদের মন্দ পথ থেকে ফিরবে; তাহলে আমি তাদের অন্যায় ও পাপ ক্ষমা করব।”
It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them, that they may return every man from his evil way, that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.
4 ৪ তখন যিরমিয় নেরিয়ের ছেলে বারূককে ডাকলেন এবং বারূক একটি গুটানো কাগজে যিরমিয়ের নির্দেশে সদাপ্রভুর তাঁকে বলা সমস্ত কিছু লিখলেন।
Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah. And Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Jehovah, which he had spoken to him, upon a roll of a book.
And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up. I cannot go into the house of Jehovah.
6 ৬ তাই তুমি অবশ্যই যাও ও আমার নির্দেশে লেখা সেই গুটানো কাগজটি পড়। সদাপ্রভুর সেই বাক্য একটি উপবাসের দিনের সদাপ্রভুর গৃহে গিয়ে লোকদের কাছে পড়ে শোনাও। আর তুমি নিজের শহর থেকে আসা সমস্ত যিহূদার সামনেও তা পড়বে। তাদের বিরুদ্ধে এই বাক্য ঘোষণা কর।
Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, which thou have written from my mouth, the words of Jehovah in the ears of the people in Jehovah's house upon the fast-day. And also thou shall read them in the ears of all Judah who come out of their cities.
7 ৭ হয়তো, তারা করুণার জন্য সদাপ্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করবে। হয়তো, প্রত্যেকে তাদের মন্দ পথ থেকে ফিরবে; কারণ এই লোকদের বিরুদ্ধে সদাপ্রভু রোষ ও ক্রোধের কথা ঘোষণা করেছেন।”
It may be they will present their supplication before Jehovah, and will return each one from his evil way, for great is the anger and the wrath that Jehovah has pronounced against this people.
8 ৮ তাই নেরিয়ের ছেলে বারূক সমস্ত কিছুই করলেন, যা ভাববাদী যিরমিয় তাঁকে করতে আদেশ করেছেন। তিনি সদাপ্রভুর গৃহে সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য পড়লেন।
And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of Jehovah in Jehovah's house.
9 ৯ পরে যোশিয়ের ছেলে যিহূদার রাজা যিহোয়াকীমের রাজত্বের পঞ্চম বছরের নবম মাসে যিরূশালেমের সমস্ত লোক ও যিহূদার শহরগুলি থেকে যিরূশালেমে আসা লোকদের জন্য সদাপ্রভুর সামনে উপবাস করবার কথা ঘোষণা করা হল।
Now it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Jehovah.
10 ১০ বারূক সদাপ্রভুর গৃহে, উপরের উঠানে, নতুন ফটকের প্রবেশপথে, শাফনের ছেলে গমরিয় লেখকের কুঠরীতে দাঁড়িয়ে যিরমিয়ের বাক্যগুলি পড়লেন। তিনি সমস্ত লোকদের কাছে পড়লেন।
Then Baruch read in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Jehovah's house, in the ears of all the people.
And when Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of Jehovah,
12 ১২ তখন তিনি রাজবাড়ীর কেরানীর কুঠরীতে গেলেন। দেখ, সেখানে সমস্ত শাসনকর্তারা: লেখক ইলীশামা, শময়িয়ের ছেলে দলায়, অকবোরের ছেলে ইলনাথন, শাফনের ছেলে গমরিয়, হনানিয়ের ছেলে সিদিকিয় এবং অন্যান্য সব শাসনকর্তারা বসে ছিলেন।
he went down into the king's house, into the scribe's chamber. And, lo, all the rulers were sitting there: Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the rulers.
13 ১৩ বারূক যখন সেই গুটানো কাগজ লোকদের কাছে পড়েছিলেন; তখন মীখায় যে সব কথা শুনেছিলেন, তা সেই নেতাদের জানালেন।
Then Micaiah declared to them all the words that he had heard when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.
14 ১৪ তাতে শাসনকর্তারা সবাই নথনিয়ের ছেলে যিহূদীকে দিয়ে বারূককে বলে পাঠালেন, “তুমি যে গুটানো কাগজ থেকে লোকদের পড়ে শুনিয়েছিলে, তা নিয়ে এস।” নথনিয় ছিল শেলিমিয়ের ছেলে, শেলিমিয় ছিল কূশির ছেলে। তখন নেরিয়ের ছেলে বারূক সেটি হাতে করে তাঁদের কাছে গেলেন।
Therefore all the rulers sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, Take in thy hand the roll from which thou have read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came to them.
And they said to him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.
16 ১৬ তখন ওই সমস্ত কথা শুনে তাঁরা সবাই ভয়ে পেয়ে পরস্পরের দিকে তাকালেন এবং বারূককে বললেন, “আমরা এই সব কথা রাজাকে গিয়ে অবশ্যই জানাব।”
Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said to Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.
17 ১৭ তারপর তাঁরা বারূককে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আমাদের বল, যিরমিয়ের নির্দেশে তুমি কেমন করে এই সব কথা লিখলে?”
And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How did thou write all these words at his mouth?
18 ১৮ বারূক তাঁদের বললেন, “তিনি আমাকে এই সব কথা নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন এবং আমি তা এই গুটানো কাগজে কালি দিয়ে তা লিখলাম।”
Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.
19 ১৯ তখন শাসনকর্তারা বারূককে বললেন, “তুমি ও যিরমিয় গিয়ে লুকিয়ে থাক। তোমরা কোথায় আছ তা যেন কেউ জানতে না পারে।”
Then the rulers said to Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah, and let no man know where ye are.
20 ২০ পরে তাঁরা সেই গুটানো কাগজটি লেখক ইলীশামার কুঠরীতে রেখে রাজার উঠানে গেলেন এবং তাঁকে সব কথা জানালেন।
And they went in to the king into the court, but they had laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and they told all the words in the ears of the king.
21 ২১ তখন রাজা সেই গুটানো কাগজটি আনার জন্য যিহূদীকে পাঠালেন। লেখক ইলীশামার কুঠরী থেকে যিহূদী সেটি আনলেন। তারপর তিনি রাজা ও তাঁর পাশে দাঁড়ানো সব শাসনকর্ত্তাদের সামনে পড়লেন।
So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll, and he took it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the rulers who stood beside the king.
Now the king was sitting in the winter-house in the ninth month, and the brazier was burning before him.
23 ২৩ যিহূদী তিন চার পৃষ্ঠা পড়ার পর রাজা লেখকের ছুরি দিয়ে তা কেটে নিয়ে আগুনের পাত্রে ছুঁড়ে ফেললেন, যতক্ষণ না সম্পূর্ণ গুটানো কাগজটি ধ্বংস হল।
And it came to pass, when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, that the king cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.
And they were not afraid, nor tore their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words.
25 ২৫ ইলনাথন, দলায় ও গমরিয় রাজাকে সেই গুটানো কাজটি না পোড়াতে অনুরোধ করেছিলেন, কিন্তু রাজা তাঁদের কথা শুনলেন না।
Moreover Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll, but he would not hear them.
26 ২৬ রাজা রাজপুত্র যিরহমেল, অস্রীয়েলের ছেলে সরায় ও অব্দিয়েলের ছেলে শেলিমিয়কে লেখক বারূক ও ভাববাদী যিরমিয়কে ধরে আনবার জন্য হুকুম দিলেন, কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু তাঁদের লুকিয়ে রাখলেন।
And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet, but Jehovah hid them.
27 ২৭ যিরমিয়ের নির্দেশে বারূক যে সব বাক্য লিখেছেন, সেই গুটানো কাগজটি রাজা পুড়িয়ে দিলে সদাপ্রভুর এই বাক্য যিরমিয়ের কাছে এল। সেটি হল,
Then the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah after the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,
28 ২৮ “ফিরে যাও, নিজের জন্য অন্য একটি গুটানো কাগজ নাও, আসল গুটানো কাগজে যে সমস্ত বাক্য ছিল যিহূদার রাজা যিহোয়াকীম যেটি পুড়িয়ে দিয়েছে, তা এতে লেখ।
Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned.
29 ২৯ আর যিহূদার রাজা যিহোয়াকীমকে বল যে, ‘তুমি সেই গুটানো কাগজটি পুড়িয়েছ! তুমি বললে, কেন তুমি এর ওপর লিখেছ, বাবিলের রাজা নিশ্চয় এসে এই দেশ ধ্বংস করবেন, কারণ তিনি মানুষ ও পশু উভয়কেই শেষ করে দেবেন?’
And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah thou shall say, Thus says Jehovah: Thou have burned this roll, saying, Why have thou written in it, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from there man and beast?
30 ৩০ সেইজন্য তোমার বিষয়ে সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন, ‘দায়ূদের সিংহাসনে বসার জন্য তোমার কেউ থাকবে না; তোমার মৃতদেহ বাইরে দিনের গরমে ও রাতের হিমে ফেলে দেওয়া হবে।
Therefore thus says Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David. And his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.
31 ৩১ কারণ আমি তোমার সমস্ত পাপের জন্য তোমাকে, তোমার বংশধরদের এবং তোমার দাসেদের শাস্তি দেব। আমি তোমাদের উপর, যিরূশালেমের সমস্ত বাসিন্দাদের উপর, যিহূদার প্রত্যেকের উপর সমস্ত বিপদ আনব; যা আমি তোমাদের হুমকি দিয়েছি, কিন্তু তোমরা তাতে মনোযোগ দাওনি’।”
And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity. And I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they did not hearken.
32 ৩২ তাই যিরমিয় অন্য একটি গুটানো কাগজ নিলেন এবং সেটি নেরিয়ের ছেলে লেখক বারূককে দিলেন। বারূক তার ওপর যিরমিয়ের নির্দেশ মত সমস্ত কথা, যা যিহূদার রাজা যিহোয়াকীমের পুড়িয়ে দেওয়া গুটানো কাগজে লেখা ছিল, তা লিখলেন। তাছাড়া, ঐ রকম আরও অনেক কথা এই গুটানো কাগজে যোগ করা হল।
Then Jeremiah took another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote in it from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire, and there were added besides to them many like words.
