ইষ্টের বিবরণ 2
1 ১ এই সব ঘটনার পরে অহশ্বেরশ রাজার রাগ কমে গেলে তিনি বষ্টীকে, তাঁর কাজ ও তাঁর বিপরীতে যে আদেশ দেওয়া হয়েছিল, তা মনে করলেন।
After this, when the wrath of king Assuerus was appeased, he remembered Vasthi, and what she had done and what she had suffered:
And the king’s servants and his officers said: Let young women be sought for the king, virgins and beautiful,
3 ৩ মহারাজ নিজের রাজ্যের সমস্ত প্রদেশে কর্মচারীদেরকে নিযুক্ত করুন; তারা সেই সব সুন্দরী যুবতী কুমারীদেরকে শূশন রাজধানীতে জড়ো করে অন্দরমহলে স্ত্রীলোকদের রক্ষক রাজ নপুংসক যে হেগয়, তাঁর কাছে দেওয়া হোক এবং তাদের সাজসরঞ্জামের জিনিস দেওয়া হোক।
And let some persons be sent through all the provinces to look for beautiful maidens and virgins: and let them bring them to the city of Susan, and put them into the house of the women under the hand of Egeus the eunuch, who is the overseer and keeper of the king’s women: and let them receive women’s ornaments, and other things necessary for their use.
4 ৪ পরে মহারাজের চোখে যে মেয়ে ভালো হবেন, তিনি বষ্টীর পদে রাণী হোন। তখন এই কথা রাজার ভালো মনে হওয়াতে তিনি সেরকমই করলেন।
And whosoever among them all shall please the king’s eyes, let her be queen instead of Vasthi. The word pleased the king: and he commanded it should be done as they had suggested.
5 ৫ সেই দিনের যায়ীরের ছেলে মর্দখয় নামে একজন যিহূদী শূশন রাজধানীতে ছিলেন। সেই যায়ীরের বাবা শিমিয়ি, শিমিয়ির বাবা বিন্যামীনীয় কীশ।
There was a man in the city of Susan, a Jew, named Mardochai, the son of Jair, the son of Semei, the son of Cis, of the race of Jemini,
6 ৬ বাবিলের রাজা নবূখদ্নিৎসরের মাধ্যমে বন্দী অবস্থায় আনা যিহূদার রাজা যিকনিয়ের সঙ্গে যে সব লোক বন্দী হয়েছিল, [কীশ] তাদের সঙ্গে যিরুশালেম থেকে বন্দী অবস্থায় নিয়ে আসা হয়েছিল।
Who had been carried away from Jerusalem at the time that Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon carried away Jechonias king of Juda,
7 ৭ মর্দখয় নিজের কাকার মেয়ে হদসাকে অর্থাৎ ইষ্টেরকে লালন পালন করতেন; কারণ তাঁর বাবা কি মা ছিল না। সেই মেয়ে সুন্দরী ও রূপবতী ছিলেন; তাঁর বাবা মা মারা গেলে মর্দখয় তাঁকে নিজের মেয়ে করেছিলেন।
And he had brought up his brother’s daughter Edissa, who by another name was called Esther: now she had lost both her parents: and was exceeding fair and beautiful. And her father and mother being dead, Mardochai adopted her for his daughter.
8 ৮ পরে রাজার ঐ কথা ও আদেশ প্রচারিত হলে যখন শূশন রাজধানীতে হেগয়ের কাছে অনেক মেয়েকে আনা হল, তখন ইষ্টেরকেও রাজবাড়িতে স্ত্রীরক্ষক হেগয়ের কাছে আনা হল।
And when the king’s ordinance was noised abroad, and according to his commandment many beautiful virgins were brought to Susan, and were delivered to Egeus the eunuch: Esther also among the rest of the maidens was delivered to him to be kept in the number of the women.
9 ৯ আর সেই মেয়েটি হেগয়ের চোখে ভালো হলেন ও তাঁর কাছে দয়া পেলেন এবং তিনি তাড়াতাড়ি সাজ সরঞ্জামের জিনিসগুলি এবং আরো যে যে জিনিসগুলো তাঁকে দিতে হয়, তা এবং রাজবাড়ি থেকে মনোনীত সাতটা দাসী তাঁকে দিলেন এবং সেই দাসীদের সঙ্গে তাঁকে অন্দরমহলের ভালো জায়গায় নিয়ে রাখলেন।
And she pleased him, and found favour in his sight. And he commanded the eunuch to hasten the women’s ornaments, and to deliver to her her part, and seven of the most beautiful maidens of the king’s house, and to adorn and deck out both her and her waiting maids.
And she would not tell him her people nor her country. For Mardochai had charged her to say nothing at all of that:
11 ১১ পরে ইষ্টের কেমন আছেন ও তাঁর প্রতি কেমন ব্যবহার করা হয়, তা জানবার জন্য মর্দখয় প্রতিদিন অন্দরমহলের উঠানের সামনে বেড়াতে লাগলেন।
And he walked every day before the court of the house, in which the chosen virgins were kept, having a care for Esther’s welfare, and desiring to know what would befall her.
12 ১২ আর বারো মাস স্ত্রীলোকদের জন্য নিয়মিত সেবা পাওয়ার পর রাজা অহশ্বেরশের কাছে এক এক মেয়ের যাওয়ার পালা আসত; কারণ তাদের রূপচর্চায় এত দিন লাগত, অর্থাৎ ছয় মাস গন্ধরসের তেল, ছয় মাস সুগন্ধি ও স্ত্রীলোকের রূপচর্চার জন্য জিনিস ব্যবহার করা হত;
Now when every virgin’s turn came to go in to the king, after all had been done for setting them off to advantage, it was the twelfth month: so that for six months they were anointed with oil of myrrh, and for other six months they used certain perfumes and sweet spices.
13 ১৩ আর রাজার কাছে যেতে হলে প্রত্যেক যুবতীর জন্য এই নিয়ম ছিল; সে যে কোনো জিনিস চাইত, তা অন্দরমহল থেকে রাজবাড়িতে যাবার দিনের সঙ্গে নিয়ে যাবার জন্য তাকে দেওয়া হত।
And when they were going in to the king, whatsoever they asked to adorn themselves they received: and being decked out, as it pleased them, they passed from the chamber of the women to the king’s chamber.
14 ১৪ সে সন্ধ্যাবেলায় যেত ও সকালে উপপত্নীদের রক্ষক রাজ নপুংসক শাশ্গসের কাছে দ্বিতীয় অন্দরমহলে ফিরে আসত; রাজা তার ওপরে খুশি হয়ে তার নাম ধরে না ডাকলে সে রাজার কাছে আর যেত না।
And she that went in at evening, came out in the morning, and from thence she was conducted to the second house, that was under the hand of Susagaz the eunuch, who had the charge over the king’s concubines: neither could she return any more to the king, unless the king desired it, and had ordered her by name to come.
15 ১৫ পরে মর্দখয় নিজের কাকা অবীহয়িলের যে মেয়েটিকে নিজের মেয়ে করেছিলেন, যখন রাজার কাছে সেই ইষ্টেরের যাবার পালা হল, তখন তিনি কিছুই চাইলেন না, শুধু স্ত্রীলোকদের রক্ষক রাজ নপুংসক হেগয় যা যা ঠিক করলেন, তাই মাত্র [সঙ্গে নিলেন]; আর যে কেউ ইষ্টেরের প্রতি দেখত, সে তাঁকে অনুগ্রহ করত।
And as the time came orderly about, the day was at hand, when Esther, the daughter of Abihail the brother of Mardochai, whom he had adopted for his daughter, was to go in to the king. But she sought not women’s ornaments, but whatsoever Egeus the eunuch the keeper of the virgins had a mind, he gave her to adorn her. For she was exceeding fair, and her incredible beauty made her appear agreeable and amiable in the eyes of all.
16 ১৬ রাজার রাজত্বের সাত বছরের দশ মাসে অর্থাৎ টেবেৎ মাসে ইষ্টেরকে অহশ্বেরশ রাজার কাছে রাজবাড়িতে আনা হল।
So she was brought to the chamber of king Assuerus the tenth month, which is called Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
17 ১৭ আর রাজা অন্য সব স্ত্রীলোকের চেয়ে ইষ্টেরকে বেশি ভালবাসলেন এবং অন্য সব কুমারীর থেকে তিনিই রাজার চোখে অনুগ্রহ ও দয়া পেলেন; অতএব রাজা তাঁরই মাথায় রাজমুকুট দিয়ে বষ্টীর পদে তাঁকে রাণী করলেন।
And the king loved her more than all the women, and she had favour and kindness before him above all the women, and he set the royal crown on her head, and made her queen instead of Vasthi.
18 ১৮ পরে রাজা নিজের সমস্ত শাসনকর্ত্তা ও দাসদের জন্য ইষ্টেরের ভোজ বলে মহাভোজ তৈরী করলেন এবং সব দেশের কর ছাড় ও নিজের রাজকীয় উদারতা অনুসারে দান করলেন।
And he commanded a magnificent feast to be prepared for all the princes, and for his servants, for the marriage and wedding of Esther. And he gave rest to all the provinces, and bestowed gifts according to princely magnificence.
And when the virgins were sought the second time, and gathered together, Mardochai stayed at the king’s gate,
20 ২০ তখনও ইষ্টের মর্দখয়ের আদেশ অনুসারে নিজের বংশের কি জাতির পরিচয় দেননি; কারণ ইষ্টের মর্দখয়ের কাছে লালিত পালিত হবার দিন যেমন করতেন, তখনও তেমনি তাঁর আদেশ পালন করতেন।
Neither had Esther as yet declared her country and people, according to his commandment. For whatsoever he commanded, Esther observed: and she did all things in the same manner as she was wont at that time when he brought her up a little one.
21 ২১ সেই দিনের অর্থাৎ যখন মর্দখয় রাজবাড়ীর দরজায় বসতেন, তখন দরজার পাহারাদারদের মধ্যে বিগ্থন ও তেরশ নামে রাজবাড়ির দুইজন নপুংসক রেগে গিয়ে অহশ্বেরশ রাজার ক্ষতি করার চেষ্টা করল।
At that time, therefore, when Mardochai abode at the king’s gate, Bagathan and Thares, two of the king’s eunuchs, who were porters, and presided in the first entry of the palace, were angry: and they designed to rise up against the king, and to kill him.
22 ২২ কিন্তু সেই বিষয় অর্থাৎ মর্দখয় জানতে পেরে তিনি ইষ্টের রাণীকে তা জানালেন এবং ইষ্টের মর্দখয়ের নাম করে তা রাজাকে বললেন।
And Mardochai had notice of it, and immediately he told it to queen Esther: and she to the king in Mardochai’s name, who had reported the thing unto her.
23 ২৩ তাতে খোঁজ খবর নিয়ে সেই কথা প্রমাণ হলে ঐ দুজনকে গাছে ফাঁসি দেওয়া হল এবং সেই কথা রাজার সামনে ইতিহাস বইতে লেখা হল।
It was inquired into, and found out: and they were both hanged on a gibbet. And it was put in the histories, and recorded in the chronicles before the king.
