1 ১ আপল্লো যে দিনের করিন্থে ছিলেন, সেই দিন পৌল পার্ব্যত্য অঞ্চল দিয়ে গিয়ে ইফিষে আসলেন। সেখানে কয়েক জন শিষ্যের দেখা পেলেন;
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2 ২ আর পৌল তাদের বললেন, যখন তোমরা বিশ্বাসী হয়েছিলে তখন তোমরা কি পবিত্র আত্মা পেয়েছিলে? তারা তাঁকে বলল, পবিত্র আত্মা যে আছেন, সেই কথা আমরা শুনিনি।
He said to them, Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? And they said to him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
And he said to them, To what then were you baptized? And they said, To John’s baptism.
4 ৪ পৌল বলেলন, যোহন মন পরিবর্তনের বাপ্তিষ্মের বাপ্তাইজিত করতেন, লোকদের বলতেন, যিনি তাঁর পরে আসবেন, তাকে অর্থাৎ যীশুকে তাদের বিশ্বাস করতে হবে।
Then said Paul, John truly baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 ৬ আর পৌল তাদের উপরে হাত রেখে প্রার্থনা করলে পবিত্র আত্মা তাদের উপরে আসলেন, তাতে তারা বিভিন্ন ভাষায় কথা বলতে ও ভবিষদ্বাণী করতে লাগল।
And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spoke with tongues, and prophesied.
And all the men were about twelve.
8 ৮ পরে তিনি সমাজঘরে [ধর্মগৃহে] গিয়ে তিনমাস সাহসের সাথে কথা বললেন, ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যের বিষয় যুক্তিসহ বুঝিয়ে দিলেন।
And he went into the synagogue, and spoke boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.
9 ৯ কিন্তু কয়েক জন দয়াহীন ও অবাধ্য হয়ে জনগনের সামনেই সেই পথের নিন্দা করতে লাগল, আর তিনি তাদের কাছ থেকে চলে গিয়ে শিষ্যদের আলাদা করলেন, প্রতিদিন ই তূরান্নের বিদ্যালয়ে বাক্য আলোচনা করতে লাগলেন।
But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spoke evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.
And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelled in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
And God worked special miracles by the hands of Paul:
12 ১২ এমনকি পৌলের শরীর থেকে তাঁর রুমাল কিংবা গামছা অসুস্থ লোকদের কাছে আনলে তাদের অসুখ সেরে যেত এবং মন্দ আত্মা বের হয়ে যেত।
So that from his body were brought to the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
13 ১৩ আর কয়েক জন ভ্রমণকারী যিহূদী ওঝারাও প্রভু যীশুর নাম ব্যবহার করে মন্দ আত্মায় পাওয়া লোকদের সুস্থ করার চেষ্টা করল, আর বলল, পৌল যাকে প্রচার করেন, সেই যীশুর নামে আমি তোমাদের বের হয়ে যাওয়ার আদেশ দিচ্ছি।
Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took on them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the LORD Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.
And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?
16 ১৬ তখন যে লোকটিকে মন্দ আত্মায় ধরেছিল, সে তাদের উপরে লাফ দিয়ে পড়ে, দুজনকে এমন শক্তি দিয়ে চেপে ধরল যে, তারা বিবস্ত্র ও ক্ষতবিক্ষত হয়ে ঘর থেকে পালিয়ে গেল।
And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
17 ১৭ আর তা ইফিষের সমস্ত যিহূদী ও গ্রীক লোকেরা জানতে পারল, তাতে সকলে ভয় পেয়ে গেল এবং প্রভু যীশুর নামের গৌরব করতে লাগল।
And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
And many that believed came, and confessed, and showed their deeds.
19 ১৯ আর যারা জাদু কাজ করত, তাদের মধ্যে অনেকে নিজের নিজের বই এনে একত্র করে সকলের সামনে পুড়িয়ে ফেলল; সে সব কিছুর দাম গুনে দেখা গেল, পঞ্চাশ হাজার রুপোর মুদ্রা।
Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.
So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
21 ২১ এই সব কাজ শেষ করার পর পৌল পবিত্র আত্মার দ্বারা অনুপ্রাণিত হয়ে স্থির করলেন যে, তিনি মাকিদনিয়া ও আখায়া যাবার পর যিরুশালেম যাবেন, তিনি বললেন, সেখানে যাওয়ার পরে আমাকে রোম শহরও দেখতে হবে।
After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.
22 ২২ আর যাঁরা তাঁর পরিষেবা করতেন, তাঁদের দুজনকে, তীমথিয় ও ইরাস্তকে, মাকিদনিয়াতে পাঠিয়ে তিনি নিজে কিছুদিন এশিয়ায় থাকলেন।
So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered to him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.
And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.
24 ২৪ কারণ দিমীত্রিয় নামে একজন রৌপ্যশিল্পী দীয়ানার রূপার মন্দির নির্মাণ করত এবং শিল্পীদের যথেষ্ঠ কাজ জুগিয়ে দিত।
For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain to the craftsmen;
25 ২৫ সেই লোকটি তাদের এবং সেই ব্যবসার শিল্পীদের ডেকে বলল, মহাশয়েরা, আপনারা জানেন, এই কাজের দ্বারা আমরা উপার্জন করি।
Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, you know that by this craft we have our wealth.
26 ২৬ আর আপনারা দেখছেন ও শুনছেন, কেবল এই ইফিষে নয়, প্রায় সমস্ত এশিয়ায় এই পৌল অনেক লোককে প্রভাবিত করেছে, এই বলেছে যে, যে দেবতা হাতের তৈরী, তারা ঈশ্বর না।
Moreover you see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:
27 ২৭ এতে এই ভয় হচ্ছে, কেবল আমাদের ব্যবসার দুর্নাম হবে, তা নয়; কিন্তু মহাদেবী দিয়ানার মন্দির নগণ্য হয়ে পড়বে, আবার সে তুচ্ছও হবে, যাকে সমস্ত এশিয়া, এমনকি, সমস্ত পৃথিবী পূজো করে।
So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nothing; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships.
And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.
29 ২৯ তাতে শহরে গন্ডগোল বেধে গেল; পরে লোকেরা একসাথে রঙ্গভূমির দিকে ছুটল, মাকিদনীয়ার গায় ও আরিষ্টার্খ, পৌলের এইদুজন সহযাত্রীকে ধরে নিয়ে গেল।
And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.
And when Paul would have entered in to the people, the disciples suffered him not.
31 ৩১ আর এশিয়ার প্রধানদের মধ্যে কয়েক জন তাঁর বন্ধু ছিল বলে তাঁর কাছে লোক পাঠিয়ে এই অনুরোধ করলেন, যেন তিনি রঙ্গভূমিতে নিজের বিপদ ঘটাতে না যান।
And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent to him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.
32 ৩২ তখন নানা লোকে নানা কথা বলে চিৎকার করছিল, কারণ সভাতে গন্ডগোল বেধেছিল এবং কি জন্য একত্র হয়েছিল, তা বেশিরভাগই লোক জানত না।
Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not why they were come together.
33 ৩৩ তখন ইহুদীরা আলেকসান্দরকে সামনে উপস্থিত করাতে লোকেরা জনগনের মধ্যে থেকে তাকে বের করল; তাতে আলেকসান্দর হাতের দ্বারা ইশারা করে লোকেদের কাছে পক্ষ সমর্থন করতে চেষ্টা করলেন।
And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defense to the people.
34 ৩৪ কিন্তু যখন তারা জানতে পারল যে, সে, যিহূদী, তখন সকলে একসুরে অনুমান দুঘন্টা এই বলে চিৎকার করতে থাকল, ইফিষীয়দের দীয়ানাই মহাদেবী।
But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.
35 ৩৫ শেষে শহরের সম্পাদক জনগনকে শান্ত করে বললেন, প্রিয় ইফিষীয় লোকেরা, বল দেখি, ইফিষীয়দের শহরে যে মহাদেবী দীয়ানার এবং আকাশ থেকে পতিতা প্রতিমার গৃহমার্জ্জিকা, মানুষের মধ্যে কে না জানে?
And when the town cleark had appeased the people, he said, You men of Ephesus, what man is there that knows not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?
36 ৩৬ সুতরাং এই কথা অস্বীকার করার কোনো উপায় নেই জেনে তোমাদের শান্ত থাকা এবং অবিবেচনার কোনও কাজ না করা উচিত।
Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, you ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.
37 ৩৭ কারণ এই যে লোকদের এখানে এনেছ, তারা মন্দির লুটেরাও নয়, আমাদের মহাদেবীর বিরুদ্ধে ধর্ম্মনিন্দাও করে নি।
For you have brought here these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.
38 ৩৮ অতএব যদি কারও বিরুদ্ধে দীমীত্রিয়ের ও তার সহ শিল্পীদের কোনো অভিযোগ থাকে, তবে আদালত খোলা আছে, দেশের প্রধানেরাও আছেন, তারা পরস্পরের বিরুদ্ধে অভিযোগ করুক।
Why if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them accuse one another.
But if you inquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.
40 ৪০ সাধারনত: আজকের ঘটনার জন্য আমাকে অত্যাচারী বলে আমাদের নামে অভিযোগ হওয়ার ভয় আছে, যেহেতু এর কোন কারণ নেই, এই জনসমাগমের বিষয়ে উত্তর দেওয়ার রাস্তা আমাদের নেই।
For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.
And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
