Then Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Sheche came all Israel to make him king.
2 ২ আর যখন নবাটের ছেলে যারবিয়াম এই কথা শুনলেন, কারণ তিনি মিশরে ছিলেন, শলোমন রাজার সামনে থেকে সেখানে পালিয়ে গিয়েছিলেন, কিন্তু যারবিয়াম মিশর থেকে ফিরে আসলেন।
And when Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat heard it, (which was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Salomon the King) he returned out of Egypt.
3 ৩ লোকেরা দূত পাঠিয়ে তাঁকে ডেকে আনল; আর যারবিয়াম ও ইস্রায়লীয়েরা সবাই রহবিয়ামের কাছে গিয়ে বললেন,
And they sent and called him: so came Ieroboam and all Israel, and communed with Rehoboam, saying,
4 ৪ “আপনার বাবা আমাদের উপর কঠিন জোয়াল চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন; তাই আপনার বাবা আমাদের উপরে যে কঠিন দাসত্ব ও ভারী জোয়াল চাপিয়েছেন, আপনি তা হালকা করুন, তাহলে আমরা আপনার সেবা করব।”
Thy father made our yoke grieuous: nowe therefore make thou the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his sore yoke, that he put vpon vs, lighter, and we will serue thee.
And he sayde to them, Depart yet three dayes, then come againe vnto me. And the people departed.
6 ৬ পরে রহবিয়াম রাজা, তাঁর বাবা শলোমনের জীবনকালে যে সব বৃদ্ধ নেতারা তাঁর সামনে থাকতেন, তাঁদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করে বললেন, “আমি এই লোকদের কি উত্তর দেব? তোমরা কি পরামর্শ দাও?”
And King Rehoboam tooke counsel with the olde men that had stande before Salomon his father, while hee yet liued, saying, What counsell giue ye that I may answere this people?
7 ৭ তাঁরা তাঁকে বললেন, “যদি আপনি এই সব লোকদের সঙ্গে ভাল ব্যবহার করে তাদের সন্তুষ্ট করেন এবং তাদের ভালো কথা বলেন, তবে তারা সব দিন আপনার সেবা করবে।”
And they spake vnto him, saying, If thou be kinde to this people, and please them, and speake louing words to them, they will be thy seruants for euer.
8 ৮ কিন্তু তিনি ঐ বৃদ্ধ নেতাদের উপদেশ অগ্রাহ্য করে সমবয়সী যুবকেরা যারা তাঁর সামনে দাঁড়াতো, তাদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করলেন।
But hee left the counsel of the ancient men that they had giuen him, and tooke counsell of the yong men that were brought vp with him, and waited on him.
9 ৯ তিনি তাদের বললেন, “ঐ লোকেরা বলছে, ‘আপনার বাবা যে ভারী জোয়াল আমাদের উপর চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন তা হালকা করুন;’ এখন আমরা তাদের কি উত্তর দেব? তোমরা কি পরামর্শ দাও?”
And he sayd vnto them, What counsel giue ye, that we may answere this people, which haue spoken to mee, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put vpon vs, lighter?
10 ১০ তাঁর সমবয়সী যুবকেরা বলল, “যে লোকেরা আপনাকে বলছে, ‘আপনার বাবা যে ভারী জোয়াল আমাদের উপর চাপিয়ে দিয়েছেন তা হালকা করুন,’ তাদের এই কথা বলুন, ‘আমার কড়ে আঙুলটা আমার বাবার কোমরের চেয়েও মোটা,’
And the yong men that were brought vp with him, spake vnto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answere the people that spake to thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heauie, but make thou it lighter for vs: thus shalt thou say vnto them, My least part shalbe bigger then my fathers loines.
11 ১১ এখন আমার বাবা তোমাদের উপর যে ভারী জোয়াল চাপিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন, কিন্তু আমি তোমাদের জোয়াল আরও ভারী করব; আমার বাবা তোমাদের চাবুক মেরে শাস্তি দিতেন, কিন্তু আমি কাঁকড়া-বিছা দিয়ে দেব।”
Now whereas my father did burden you with a grieuous yoke, I will yet increase your yoke: my father hath chastised you with roddes, but I will correct you with scourges.
12 ১২ পরে “তিন দিন পর আবার আমার কাছে এসো,” রাজার এই কথা অনুসারে যারবিয়াম ও সমস্ত লোকেরা তিন দিন পর রহবিয়ামের কাছে এল।
Then Ieroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the King had appointed saying, Come againe to me the third day.
And the King answered them sharply: and King Rehoboam left the counsel of the ancient men,
14 ১৪ এবং সেই যুবকদের পরামর্শ মত তাদের তিনি বললেন, “আমার বাবা তোমাদের জোয়াল ভারী করেছিলেন, কিন্তু আমি তা আরও ভারী করব; আমার বাবা তোমাদের চাবুক দিয়ে শাস্তি দিতেন, কিন্তু আমি তোমাদের কাঁকড়া-বিছা দিয়ে দেব।”
And spake to them after ye counsell of the yong men, saying, My father made your yoke grieuous, but I wil incease it: my father chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.
15 ১৫ এই ভাবে রাজা লোকদের কথায় কান দিলেন না, কারণ শীলোনীয় অহিয়ের মাধ্যমে সদাপ্রভু নবাটের ছেলে যারবিয়ামকে যে কথা বলেছিলেন, তা পূর্ণ করবার জন্য ঈশ্বর থেকেই এই ঘটনা ঘটল।
So the king hearkened not vnto the people: for it was the ordinance of God that the Lord might performe his saying, which hee had spoken by Ahiiah the Shilonite to Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.
16 ১৬ যখন সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল দেখল, রাজা তাদের কথা শুনলেন না, তখন লোকেরা রাজাকে উত্তরে বলল, “দায়ূদের সঙ্গে আমাদের কি সম্পর্ক? যিশয়ের ছেলের উপর আমাদের কোনো অধিকার নেই; হে ইস্রায়েল, সবাই নিজেদের তাঁবুতে যাও; দায়ূদ! এখন তোমার নিজের বংশ তুমি নিজেই দেখ।” তারপরে সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল নিজেদের তাঁবুতে চলে গেল।
So when all Isarael sawe that the King would not heare them, the people answered the King, saying, What portion haue we in Dauid? for we haue none inheritance in the sonue of Ishai. O Israel, euery man to your tents: now see to thine owne house, Dauid. So all Israel departed to their tents.
Howbeit Rehoboam reigned ouer the children of Israel, that dwelt in the cities of Iudah.
18 ১৮ পরে রহবিয়াম রাজা তাঁর কাজে নিযুক্ত দাসেদের শাসনকর্ত্তা হদোরামকে পাঠালেন; কিন্তু ইস্রায়েলীয় সন্তানরা তাকে পাথর মারলো, তাতে সে মারা গেল। আর রাজা রহবিয়াম তাড়াতাড়ি তাঁর রথে উঠে যিরূশালেমে পালিয়ে গেলেন।
Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was ouer the tribute, and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died: then King Rehoboam made speede to get him vp to his charet, to flee to Ierusalem.
And Israel rebelled against the house of Dauid vnto this day.
