১ম তীমথি 5

1 ১ তুমি কোনো বৃদ্ধ লোককে তিরস্কার করো না, কিন্তু তাকে বাবার মতো, যুবকদের ভাইয়ের মতো,

Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;

2 ২ বৃদ্ধা স্ত্রীলোককে মায়ের মতো, যুবতীদের বোনের মত মনে করে শুদ্ধভাব বজায় রেখে উৎসাহিত কর।

The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.

3 ৩ যারা সত্যিকারের বিধবা, সেই বিধবাদেরকে সম্মান কর।

Honour widows that are widows indeed.

4 ৪ কিন্তু যদি কোনো বিধবার পুত্র, কন্যা, নাতি, নাতিরা থাকে, তবে তারা প্রথমে নিজের বাড়ির লোকদের প্রতি ভক্তি দেখাতে ও বাবা মার সেবা করতে শিখুক; কারণ সেটাই ঈশ্বরের সামনে গ্রহণযোগ্য।

But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.

5 ৫ যে স্ত্রী সত্যিকারের বিধবা ও অনাথা, সে ঈশ্বরের উপরে আশা রেখে রাত দিন বিনতি ও প্রার্থনাতে থাকে।

Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.

6 ৬ কিন্তু যে বিলাস প্রিয়, সে জীবন্ত অবস্থায় মৃতা।

But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.

7 ৭ এই সব বিষয়ে নির্দেশ কর, যেন তারা নিন্দিত না হয়।

And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.

8 ৮ কিন্তু যে কেউ নিজের সম্পর্কের লোকদের বিশেষভাবে নিজের পরিবারের জন্য চিন্তা না করে, তাহলে সে বিশ্বাস অস্বীকার করেছে এবং অবিশ্বাসীর থেকেও খারাপ হয়েছে।

But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

9 ৯ বিধবাদের নামের তালিকায় নথিভুক্ত করার আগে যার বয়স ষাট বছরের নীচে নয় ও যার একমাত্র স্বামী ছিল,

Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,

10 ১০ এবং যার পক্ষে নানা ভালো কাজের প্রমাণ পাওয়া যায়; অর্থাৎ যদি সে সন্তানদের লালন পালন করে থাকে, যদি অতিথিসেবা করে থাকে, যদি পবিত্রদের পা ধুয়ে দিয়ে থাকে, যারা কষ্টে পড়েছে এমন লোকদের উপকার করে থাকে, যদি সব ভালো কাজের অনুসরণ করে থাকে।

Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

11 ১১ কিন্তু যুবতী বিধবাদের নথিভুক্ত কর না, কারণ তারা কামনা বাসনায় চঞ্চল হয়ে ওঠে ও খ্রীষ্টের প্রতি ভক্তি কমে আসে তখন তারা বিয়ে করতে চায়;

But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;

12 ১২ তারা প্রথম বিশ্বাস অগ্রাহ্য করাতে নিজেরা দোষী হয়।

Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.

13 ১৩ এছাড়া তারা বাড়ি বাড়ি ঘুরে বেড়িয়ে অলস হতে শেখে; কেবল অলসও নয়, বরং বাচাল ও অনধিকার হস্তক্ষেপ করতে ও অনুচিত কথা বলতে শেখে।

And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

14 ১৪ অতএব আমার ইচ্ছা এই, যুবতী [বিধবারা] বিবাহ করুক, সন্তান প্রসব করুক, শত্রুদের অভিযোগ করবার কোনো সুযোগ না দেওয়া হোক।

I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

15 ১৫ কারণ ইতিমধ্যে কেউ কেউ শয়তানের পিছনে বিপথগামিনী হয়েছে।

For some are already turned aside after Satan.

16 ১৬ যদি কোনো বিশ্বাসীনী মহিলার ঘরে বিধবারা থাকে, যেন তিনি তাদের উপকার করেন; মণ্ডলী ভারগ্রস্ত না হোক, যেন প্রকৃত বিধবাদের উপকার করতে পারে।

If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the Assembly be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.

17 ১৭ যে প্রাচীনেরা ভালোভাবে শাসন করেন, বিশেষভাবে যারা বাক্য ও শিক্ষাদানে পরিশ্রম করেন, তারা দ্বিগুন সম্মান ও পারিশ্রমিকের যোগ্য বলে গণ্য হোন।

Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

18 ১৮ কারণ শাস্ত্র বলে, “শস্যদানা মাড়ানোর দিন বলদের মুখে জালতি বেঁধ না;” এবং “যে কাজ করে সে তার বেতন পাওয়ার যোগ্য।”

For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the grain. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

19 ১৯ দুই তিনজন সাক্ষী ছাড়া কোনো প্রাচীনের বিরুদ্ধে অভিযোগ গ্রহণ কর না।

Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.

20 ২০ যারা পাপ করে, তাদেরকে সবার সামনে অনুযোগ কর; যেন অন্য সকলেও ভয় পায়।

Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

21 ২১ আমি ঈশ্বরের, খ্রীষ্ট যীশুর ও মনোনীত দূতদের সামনে তোমাকে এই আদেশ দিচ্ছি কারোর পক্ষপাত না নিয়ে তুমি এই সব বিধি পালন কর।

I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

22 ২২ তাড়াতাড়ি করে কারোর উপরে হাত রেখো না এবং অন্যের পাপের ভাগী হয়ো না; নিজেদেরকে শুদ্ধ করে রক্ষা কর।

Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.

23 ২৩ এখন থেকে শুধু জল পান করো না, কিন্তু তোমার হজমের জন্য ও তোমার পেটের অসুখ এবং বার বার অসুখ হলে অল্প আঙ্গুর রস ব্যবহার কোরো।

Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

24 ২৪ কোনো কোনো লোকের পাপ স্পষ্ট জানা যায়, তারা বিচারের পথে আগে আসে; আবার কোনো কোনো লোকের পাপ তাদের পিছনে।

Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.

25 ২৫ ভালো কাজও তেমনি স্পষ্ট জানা যায়; আর যা অন্য বিষয়, সেগুলি গোপন রাখতে পারা যায় না।

Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.
