শমূয়েলের প্রথম বই 8

1 ১ পরে শমূয়েল যখন বৃদ্ধ হলেন, তখন তাঁর ছেলেদেরকে শাসনকর্ত্তা করে ইস্রায়েলের ওপর নিযুক্ত করলেন।

And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.

2 ২ তাঁর বড় ছেলের নাম যোয়েল, দ্বিতীয় ছেলের নাম অবিয়; তারা বের-শেবাতে বিচার করত,

Now the name of his first-born was Joel; and the name of his second, Abijah: they were judges in Beer-sheba.

3 ৩ কিন্তু তার ছেলেরা তাঁর পথে চলত না, তারা ধন লাভের আশায় বিপথে গেল, ঘুষ নিত ও উল্টো বিচার করত।

And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted justice.

4 ৪ তাই ইস্রায়েলের প্রাচীন নেতারা একত্র হলেন এবং রামায় শমূয়েলের কাছে গিয়ে,

Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah;

5 ৫ তারা তাঁকে বললেন, “দেখুন, আপনি বৃদ্ধ হয়েছেন এবং আপনার ছেলেরা আপনার পথে চলছে না, এখন অন্যান্য জাতিদের মত আমাদের বিচার করতে আপনি আমাদের উপরে একজন রাজা নিযুক্ত করুন।”

and they said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

6 ৬ “আমাদের শাসন করবার জন্য আমাদের একজন রাজা দিন,” তাদের এই কথা শমূয়েলের কাছে ভাল মনে হল না; তাতে শমূয়েল সদাপ্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করলেন।

But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto Jehovah.

7 ৭ তখন সদাপ্রভু শমূয়েলকে বললেন, “এই লোকেরা তোমাকে যা যা বলছে, সেই সমস্ত বিষয়ে তুমি তাদের কথা শোন, কারণ তারা তোমাকে অগ্রাহ্য করল, এমন নয়, আমাকেই অগ্রাহ্য করল, যেন আমি তাদের উপর রাজত্ব না করি।

And Jehovah said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee; for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not be king over them.

8 ৮ যে দিন মিশর থেকে তাদের বের করে নিয়ে এসেছিলাম, সেই দিন থেকে আজ পর্যন্ত তারা যেমন ব্যবহার করে চলেছে, অন্য দেবতাদের সেবা করার জন্য আমাকে ত্যাগ করেছে, তেমন ব্যবহার তোমার প্রতিও করছে।

According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, in that they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

9 ৯ এখন তাদের কথা মেনে নাও; কিন্তু তাদের বিরুদ্ধে দৃঢ়ভাবে সাক্ষী দাও এবং তাদের উপর যে রাজত্ব করবে, সেই রাজার নিয়ম তাদেরকে জানাও।”

Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit thou shalt protest solemnly unto them, and shalt show them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.

10 ১০ পরে যে লোকেরা শমূয়েলের কাছে রাজা চেয়েছিল, তাদেরকে তিনি সদাপ্রভুর সেই সমস্ত কথা জানালেন।

And Samuel told all the words of Jehovah unto the people that asked of him a king.

11 ১১ আরও বললেন, “তোমাদের উপরে রাজত্বকারী রাজার এইরকম নিয়ম হবে; তিনি তোমাদের ছেলেদের নিয়ে তাঁর রথ ও ঘোড়ার উপর নিযুক্ত করবেন এবং তারা তাঁর রথের আগে আগে দৌড়াবে।

And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: he will take your sons, and appoint them unto him, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and they shall run before his chariots;

12 ১২ আর তিনি নিজের জন্য তাদেরকে হাজার সৈন্যের উপরে ও পঞ্চাশজন সৈন্যের উপরে সেনাপতি করে নিযুক্ত করবেন এবং কাউকে কাউকে তিনি তাঁর জমি চাষের ও ফসল কাটবার কাজে এবং যুদ্ধের অস্ত্রশস্ত্র ও রথের সাজ সরঞ্জাম তৈরী করবার কাজে লাগাবেন।

and he will appoint them unto him for captains of thousands, and captains of fifties; and [he will set some] to plow his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and the instruments of his chariots.

13 ১৩ আর তিনি তোমাদের মেয়েদের নিয়ে সুগন্ধি তৈরী, রাধুনী ও রুটি তৈরীর কাজ করাবেন।

And he will take your daughters to be perfumers, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.

14 ১৪ তিনি তোমাদের সবচেয়ে ভাল জমি, আংগুর ক্ষেত ও সমস্ত জিতবৃক্ষ নিয়ে তাঁর কর্মচারীদের দেবেন।

And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.

15 ১৫ তোমাদের শস্য ও আংগুরের দশ ভাগের এক ভাগ নিয়ে তিনি তাঁর কর্মচারী ও অন্যান্য দাসদের দেবেন।

And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.

16 ১৬ তিনি তোমাদের দাসদাসী এবং তোমাদের সেরা যুবকদের ও গাধাগুলো নিয়ে নিজের কাজে লাগাবেন।

And he will take your men-servants, and your maid-servants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.

17 ১৭ তোমাদের ভেড়ার পালের দশ ভাগের এক ভাগ তিনি নিয়ে নেবেন আর তোমরা তাঁর দাস হবে।

He will take the tenth of your flocks: and ye shall be his servants.

18 ১৮ সেই দিন তোমরা তোমাদের মনোনীত রাজার জন্য কাঁদবে, কিন্তু সেই দিন সদাপ্রভু তোমাদের উত্তর দেবেন না।”

And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king whom ye shall have chosen you; and Jehovah will not answer you in that day.

19 ১৯ তবুও লোকেরা শমূয়েলের এই সব কথা শুনতে রাজি হল না, তারা বলল, “না, আমাদের উপরে একজন রাজা চাই।

But the people refused to hearken unto the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay: but we will have a king over us,

20 ২০ তাহলে আমরা অন্য সব জাতির সমান হব এবং আমাদের রাজা আমাদের বিচার করবেন ও আমাদের আগে আগে থেকে যুদ্ধ করবেন।”

that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

21 ২১ তখন শমূয়েল লোকদের সব কথা শুনে সদাপ্রভুর কাছে তা বললেন।

And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of Jehovah.

22 ২২ তাতে সদাপ্রভু শমূয়েলকে বললেন, “তুমি তাদের কথা শোন এবং তাদের জন্য এক জনকে রাজা কর।” তখন শমূয়েল ইস্রায়েলীয়দের বললেন, “তোমরা প্রত্যেকে নিজের নিজের নগরে যাও।”

And Jehovah said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.
