শমূয়েলের প্রথম বই 7
1 ১ তাতে কিরিয়ৎ-যিয়ারীমের লোকেরা এসে সদাপ্রভুর সিন্দুক তুলে নিয়ে গিয়ে পাহাড়ে অবস্থিত অবীনাদবের বাড়িতে রাখল এবং সদাপ্রভুর সিন্দুক রক্ষা করার জন্য তার ছেলে ইলীয়াসরকে পবিত্র করলো।
And the men of Cariathiarim come, and bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord: and they bring it into the house of Aminadab in the hill; and they sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the covenant of the Lord.
2 ২ সদাপ্রভুর সিন্দুক কিরিয়ৎ-যিয়ারীমে রাখবার পর অনেক দিন পার হয়ে গেল, কুড়ি বছর গেল, আর ইস্রায়েলের সমস্ত বংশ সদাপ্রভুর কাছে বিলাপ করতে লাগল।
And it came to pass from the time that the ark was in Cariathiarim, the days were multiplied, and [the time] was twenty years; and all the house of Israel looked after the Lord.
3 ৩ তাতে শমূয়েল সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলের বংশকে বললেন, “তোমরা যদি সমস্ত অন্তরের সঙ্গে সদাপ্রভুর কাছে ফিরে আসো, তবে তোমাদের মধ্য থেকে অন্য জাতিদের দেব-দেবতা এবং অষ্টারোৎ দেবীর মুর্ত্তিগুলো দূর কর ও সদাপ্রভুর দিকে নিজেদের অন্তর স্থির কর, শুধু তাঁরই সেবা কর; তাহলে তিনি পলেষ্টীয়দের হাত থেকে তোমাদেরকে উদ্ধার করবেন।”
And Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, If you do with all your heart return to the Lord, take away the strange gods from the midst of you, and the groves, and prepare your hearts to [serve] the Lord, and serve him only; and he shall deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.
4 ৪ তখন ইস্রায়েল সন্তানেরা বাল দেবতাদের ও অষ্টারোৎ দেবীর মুর্ত্তিগুলো দূর করে শুধু সদাপ্রভুর সেবা করতে লাগল।
And the children of Israel took away Baalim and the groves of Astaroth, and served the Lord only.
5 ৫ পরে শমূয়েল বললেন, “তোমরা সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলকে মিসপাতে জড়ো কর; আমি তোমাদের জন্য সদাপ্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করব।”
And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Massephath, and I will pray for you to the Lord.
6 ৬ তাতে তারা সবাই মিসপাতে জড়ো হয়ে জল তুলে সদাপ্রভুর সামনে ঢেলে দিল এবং সেই দিন উপোস করে সেখানে বলল, “আমরা সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধে পাপ করেছি।” আর শমূয়েল মিসপাতে ইস্রায়েল সন্তানদের বিচার করতে লাগলেন।
And they were gathered together to Massephath, and they drew water, and poured it out upon the earth before the Lord. And they fasted on that day, and said, We have sinned before the Lord. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Massephath.
7 ৭ পরে পলেষ্টীয়রা যখন শুনতে পেল যে, ইস্রায়েল সন্তানেরা মিসপাতে জড়ো হয়েছে, তখন পলেষ্টীয়দের শাসনকর্তারা ইস্রায়েলের বিরুদ্ধে উঠে আসলেন; তা শুনে ইস্রায়েল সন্তানেরা পলেষ্টীয়দের থেকে ভয় পেল।
And the Philistines heard that all the children of Israel were gathered together to Massephath: and the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel: and the children of Israel heard, and they feared before the Philistines.
8 ৮ আর ইস্রায়েল সন্তানেরা শমূয়েলকে বলল, “আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু পলেষ্টীয়দের হাত থেকে যেন আমাদের উদ্ধার করেন, এই জন্য আপনি তাঁর কাছে আমাদের জন্য কাঁদুন।”
And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry to the Lord your God for us, and he shall save us out of the hand of the Philistines.
9 ৯ তখন শমূয়েল এমন একটা ভেড়ার বাচ্চা নিলেন যেটা দুধ ছাড়ে নি আর সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে গোটা বাচ্চাটা হোমবলি উৎসর্গ করলেন এবং শমূয়েল ইস্রায়েলের জন্য সদাপ্রভুর কাছে কাঁদলেন; আর সদাপ্রভু তাঁকে উত্তর দিলেন।
And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it up as a whole burnt offering with all the people to the Lord: and Samuel cried to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord heard him.
10 ১০ যে দিনের শমূয়েল ঐ হোমবলি উৎসর্গ করছিলেন, তখন পলেষ্টীয়েরা ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সঙ্গে যুদ্ধ করবার জন্য এগিয়ে আসল। কিন্তু সেই দিন সদাপ্রভু পলেষ্টীয়দের উপরে বাজ পড়বার মত ভীষণ শব্দে গর্জন করে তাদের ব্যাকুল করলেন; তাতে তারা ইস্রায়েলের সামনে আহত হল।
And Samuel was offering the whole burnt offering; and the Philistines drew near to war against Israel; and the Lord thundered with a mighty sound in that day upon the Philistines, and they were confounded and overthrown before Israel.
11 ১১ আর ইস্রায়েলের লোকেরা মিসপা থেকে বের হয়ে পলেষ্টীয়দের পেছনে পেছনে তাড়া করে বৈৎ-করের নীচে পর্যন্ত তাদেরকে আঘাত করল।
And the men of Israel went forth out of Massephath, and pursued the Philistines, and struck them to the parts under Baethchor.
12 ১২ তখন শমূয়েল একটা পাথর নিয়ে মিসপা ও শেনের মাঝখানে স্থাপন করলেন এবং “এই পর্যন্ত সদাপ্রভু আমাদের সাহায্য করেছেন,” এই বলে তার নাম এবন্ এষর (“সাহায্যের পাথর”) রাখলেন।
And Samuel took a stone, and set it up between Massephath and the old [city]; and he called the name of it Abenezer, stone of the helper; and he said, Hitherto has the Lord helped us.
13 ১৩ এই ভাবে পলেষ্টীয়রা নত হল এবং ইস্রায়েলীয়দের সীমানায় আর প্রবেশ করল না। আর শমূয়েল যতদিন বেঁচে ছিলেন ততদিন পর্যন্ত সদাপ্রভুর হাত পলেষ্টীয়দের বিরুদ্ধে ছিল।
So the Lord humbled the Philistines, and they did not anymore come into the border of Israel; and the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
14 ১৪ আর পলেষ্টীয়েরা ইস্রায়েল থেকে যে সব শহরগুলো কেড়ে নিয়েছিল, ইক্রোণ থেকে গাত পর্যন্ত সেই সব আবার ইস্রায়েলের হাতে ফিরে এল এবং ইস্রায়েল সেই সমস্ত অঞ্চল পলেষ্টীয়দের হাত থেকে উদ্ধার করল। আর ইমোরীয়দের ও ইস্রায়েলের মধ্যে শান্তি স্থাপিত হল।
And the cities which the Philistines took from the children of Israel were restored; and they restored them to Israel from Ascalon to Azob: and they took the coast of Israel out of the hand of the Philistines; and there was peace between Israel and the Amorite.
And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.
16 ১৬ তিনি প্রত্যেক বছর বৈথেলে, গিল্গলে ও মিসপাতে ভ্রমণ করে সেই সব জায়গায় ইস্রায়েলের বিচার করতেন।
And he went year by year, and went round Baethel, and Galgala, and Massephath; and he judged Israel in all these consecrated places.
17 ১৭ পরে তিনি রামায় ফিরে আসতেন, কারণ সেখানে তাঁর বাড়ি ছিল এবং সেখানে তিনি ইস্রায়েলের বিচার করতেন; আর তিনি সেখানে সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে একটা যজ্ঞবেদী তৈরী করেন।
And his return was to Armathaim, because there was his house; and there he judged Israel, and built there an altar to the Lord.
