শমূয়েলের প্রথম বই 21

1 ১ পরে দায়ূদ নোবে অহীমেলক যাজকের কাছে গেলেন; আর অহীমেলক কাঁপতে কাঁপতে এসে দায়ূদের সঙ্গে দেখা করলেন ও তাঁকে বললেন, “আপনি একা কেন? আপনার সঙ্গে কেউ নেই কেন?”

Then came David to Nob, unto Ahimelech, the priest, —and Ahimelech trembled when he met David, and said unto him—Why art thou, alone, and, no man, with thee?

2 ২ দায়ূদ অহীমেলক যাজককে বললেন, “রাজা একটি কাজের দায়িত্ব দিয়ে আমাকে বলেছেন, আমি তোমাকে যে কাজে পাঠালাম ও যা আদেশ করলাম, তার কিছু যেন কেউ না জানে আর; আমি নিজের সঙ্গী যুবকদেরকে ওই জায়গায় আসতে বলেছি৷

And David said unto Ahimelech the priest—The king, hath charged me with a matter, and hath said unto me—Let, no man, know aught of the business on which I am sending thee, and with which I have charged thee, —But, unto the young men, have I appointed, such and such a place.

3 ৩ এখন আপনার কাছে কি আছে? পাঁচটা রুটি কিংবা যা থাকে, আমার হাতে দিন ৷”

Now, therefore, what is there under thy hand? Five loaves, give thou into my hand, —or, whatever can be found.

4 ৪ যাজক দায়ূদকে উত্তর দিলেন, “আমার কাছে সাধারণ রুটি নেই, শুধুমাত্র পবিত্র রুটি আছে-যদি সেই যুবকেরা শুধু স্ত্রীর থেকে আলাদা হয়ে থাকে৷”

And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under my hand, —but, hallowed bread, there is, if the young men have kept themselves, at least from women.

5 ৫ দায়ূদ যাজককে উত্তর দিলেন, “সত্যিই তিন দিন আমাদের থেকে স্ত্রীরা আলাদা আছে; আমি যখন বেরিয়ে আসি, তখন যাত্রা সাধারণ হলেও যুবকদের পাত্রগুলি পবিত্র ছিল; তাই আজ তাদের পাত্রগুলি আরও কত না পবিত্র৷”

And David answered the priest and said to him—Of a truth, women, have been withheld from us, of late, through my coming out, and the wallets of the young men have become hallowed, —while [the bread], itself, is in a manner common, and the more so since, to-day, [there are other loaves] to be hallowed, in the vessel.

6 ৬ তখন যাজক তাঁকে পবিত্র রুটি দিলেন; কারণ সেখানে অন্য রুটি ছিল না, কেবল ওটা তুলে নেবার দিনের সেকা রুটি রাখবার জন্য যে দর্শন-রুটি সদাপ্রভুর সামনে থেকে সরিয়ে রাখা হয়েছিল, সেটাই শুধু ছিল৷

So the priest gave him hallowed [bread], —because there was there no bread, save the Presence-Bread, which had to be removed from before Yahweh, to put hot bread, on the day when it should be taken away.

7 ৭ সেই দিন শৌলের দাসেদের মধ্যে ইদোমীয় দোয়েগ নামে একজন সদাপ্রভুর সামনে আবদ্ধ হয়ে সেখানে ছিল, সে শৌলের প্রধান পশুপালক৷

Now, in that very place, was a man of the servants of Saul, on that day, detained before Yahweh, whose name, was Doeg the Edomite, —chief of the shepherds that belonged unto Saul.

8 ৮ পরে দায়ূদ অহীমেলককে বললেন, “এখানে আপনার কাছে বর্শা কিংবা তলোয়ার নেই? কারণ রাজকাজের তাড়াতাড়িতে আমি নিজের তলোয়ার বা অস্ত্র সঙ্গে আনি নি৷”

Then said David to Ahimelech, See whether there is here, under thy hand, a spear or a sword? for, neither my sword, nor my other weapons, did I take in my hand, for, the king’s business, was, urgent.

9 ৯ যাজক বললেন, “এলা উপত্যকায় আপনি যাকে হত্যা করেছিলেন, সেই পলেষ্টীয় গলিয়াতের তলোয়ার আছে; দেখুন, এফোদের পিছন দিকে এখানে কাপড়ে জড়ান আছে; এটা যদি নিতে চান, নিন, কারণ, এটা ছাড়া আর কোন তরোয়াল এখানে নেই৷” দায়ূদ বললেন, “সেটার মত আর নেই; সেটাই আমাকে দিন ৷”

And the priest said: The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou didst smite in the vale of Elah, lo! that, is wrapped up in a cloth, behind the ephod, if, that, thou wilt take to thee, take it, for there is no other, save that, here. And David said—There is none, like it, give it me.

10 ১০ পরে দায়ূদ উঠে সেদিন শৌলের ভয়ে পালিয়ে গাতের রাজা আখীশের কাছে গেলেন।

Then arose David, and fled, that day, from the face of Saul, —and came in unto Achish, king of Gath.

11 ১১ তাতে আখীশের দাসেরা তাঁকে বলল, “এ ব্যক্তি কি দেশের রাজা দায়ূদ না? লোকেরা কি নাচতে নাচতে ওঁর বিষয়ে নিজেরা গান করে বলে নি, ‘শৌল হত্যা করলেন হাজার হাজার আর দায়ূদ হত্যা করলেন অযুত অযুত’?”

And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not, this, David, king of the land? Was it not, of this man, that they kept responding in the dances, saying, Saul, hath smitten his, thousands, but, David, his, tens of thousands?

12 ১২ আর দায়ূদ সে কথা মনে রাখলেন এবং গাতের রাজা আখীশের থেকে খুব ভীত হলেন৷

And David laid up these words in his heart, —and feared greatly, because of Achish king of Gath.

13 ১৩ আর তিনি তাদের সামনে তাঁর আচরণ পরিবর্তন করলেন; তিনি তাদের কাছে পাগলের মত ব্যবহার করতেন, ফটকের দরজা আঁচড়াতেন, নিজের দাড়ির উপরে লালা ঝরতে দিতেন৷

So he feigned himself mad, in their sight, and raged in their hand, —and struck against the doors of the gate, and let his spittle run down upon his beard.

14 ১৪ তখন আখীশ নিজের দাসদেরকে বললেন, “দেখ, তোমরা দেখতে পাচ্ছ, এ পাগল; তবে একে আমার কাছে আনলে কেন?

Then said Achish unto his servants, —Lo! ye can see, a madman playing his pranks, wherefore should ye bring him in, unto me?

15 ১৫ আমার কি পাগলের অভাব আছে যে, তোমরা একে আমার কাছে পাগলামি করতে এনেছ? এ কি আমার বাড়িতে আসবে?”

Lacking of madmen, am I that ye should bring in this one to play his mad pranks, unto me? Shall, this, one enter my household?
