ՄԱՏԹԷՈՍ 5
1 Եւ տեսնելով ժողովրդի բազմութիւնը՝ բարձրացաւ լերան վրայ: Եւ երբ այնտեղ նստեց, նրա մօտ եկան իր աշակերտները.
When he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and when he had seated himself, his disciples came to him,
2 եւ նա սկսեց նրանց ուսուցանել ու ասել.
and opening his lips he began to teach them, saying.
3 - Երանի՜ հոգով աղքատներին, որովհետեւ նրանցն է երկնքի արքայութիւնը:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
4 - Երանի՜ սգաւորներին, որովհետեւ նրանք պիտի մխիթարուեն:
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5 - Երանի՜ հեզերին, որովհետեւ նրանք երկիրը պիտի ժառանգեն:
"Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth."
6 - Երանի՜ նրանց, որ քաղցն ու ծարաւն ունեն արդարութեան, որովհետեւ նրանք պիտի յագենան:
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for the righteousness, for they shall be completely satisfied.
7 - Երանի՜ ողորմածներին, որովհետեւ նրանք ողորմութիւն պիտի գտնեն:
"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
8 - Երանի՜ նրանց, որ սրտով մաքուր են, որովհետեւ նրանք Աստծուն պիտի տեսնեն:
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 - Երանի՜ խաղաղարարներին, որովհետեւ նրանք Աստծու որդիներ պիտի կոչուեն:
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
10 - Երանի՜ նրանց, որ հալածւում են արդարութեան համար, որովհետեւ նրանցն է երկնքի արքայութիւնը:
"Blessed are those who have been persecuted in the cause of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 - Երանի՜ է ձեզ, երբ ձեզ նախատեն ու հալածեն եւ իմ պատճառով ձեր մասին ամէն տեսակ չար խօսք՝ սուտ ասեն:
"Blessed are you when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my name’s sake.
12 Ցնծացէ՛ք եւ ուրախացէ՛ք, որովհետեւ երկնքում ձեր վարձը շատ է, քանի որ այսպէս հալածեցին մարգարէներին, որոնք ձեզնից առաջ են եղել:
"Rejoice and exult in it, because your reward was great in the heavens; for so did they persecute the prophets before you.
13 «Դո՛ւք էք երկրի աղը. սակայն եթէ աղը անհամանայ, ինչո՞վ այն կ՚աղուի. այնուհետեւ ոչ մի բանի պիտանի չի լինի, այլ միայն դուրս կը թափուի եւ մարդկանց ոտքի կոխան կը լինի:
"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt lose its savor, in what way shall it be salted? It is henceforth good for nothing but to be thrown out and trodden under foot of men.
14 Դո՛ւք էք աշխարհի լոյսը. մի քաղաք, որ լերան վրայ է կանգնած, չի կարող թաքնուել:
"You are the light of the world. A city built on a hilltop cannot be hid;
15 Եւ ճրագ վառելով կաթսայի տակ չեն դնում, այլ՝ աշտանակի վրայ, եւ նա լոյս է տալիս բոլոր նրանց, որ տան մէջ են:
"nor do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the lamp-stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
16 Թող այդպէս փայլի ձեր լոյսը մարդկանց առաջ, որպէսզի տեսնեն ձեր բարի գործերն ու փառաւորեն ձեր Հօրը, որ երկնքում է»:
"So let your light shine before men that they may see good you do, and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
17 «Մի՛ կարծէք, թէ Օրէնքը կամ մարգարէներին ջնջելու եկայ. չեկայ ջնջելու, այլ՝ լրացնելու:
"Do not suppose that I am come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I am come not to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 Ճշմարիտ եմ ասում ձեզ. մինչեւ որ երկինք ու երկիր անցնեն, մի յովտ իսկ, - որ մի նշանախեց է, - Օրէնքից եւ մարգարէներից չի անցնի, մինչեւ որ այս բոլորը կատարուի:
"In solemn truth I tell you that until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a comma, will pass from the Law until all has taken place.
19 Ով որ այս պատուիրաններից, փոքրերի՛ց անգամ մի բան կը ջնջի եւ մարդկանց այդպէ՛ս կ՚ուսուցանի, երկնքի արքայութեան մէջ փոքր պիտի համարուի. իսկ ով կը կատարի եւ կ՚ուսուցանի, երկնքի արքայութեան մէջ նա մեծ պիտի համարուի:
"So whoever breaks one of these least commandments, and teaches others to break them, will be least in the kingdom of heaven. But he who keeps them and teaches them, he will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 Բայց ասում եմ ձեզ, որ, եթէ ձեր արդարութիւնը աւելի չլինի, քան օրէնսգէտներինը եւ փարիսեցիներինը, երկնքի արքայութիւնը չէք մտնի:
"For I assure you that unless your righteousness exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not find entrance into the kingdom of heaven.
21 Լսել էք, թէ ինչ ասուեց նախնիներին. «Մի՛ սպանիր», որովհետեւ, ով որ սպանի, ենթակայ կը լինի դատաստանի:
"You have heard that it was said to the ancients, "Thou shall not commit murder, and "he who commits murder shall be liable to condemnation by the court;
22 Իսկ ես ձեզ ասում եմ, թէ՝ ամէն մարդ, որ զուր տեղը բարկանում է իր եղբօր վրայ, ենթակայ կը լինի դատաստանի, եւ ով որ իր եղբօրն ասի՝ յիմար, ենթակայ կը լինի ատեանի, եւ ով որ իր եղբօրն ասի՝ ապուշ, ենթակայ կը լինի գեհենի կրակին: (Geenna g1067)
but I say to you that he who becomes angry with his brother shall be liable to condemnation by the court; and he who says to his brother’Raca,’ shall be liable to condemnation by the Sanhedrin, while he who curses his brother shall be liable to the Gehenna of Fire. (Geenna g1067)
23 Եթէ սեղանի վրայ քո ընծան մատուցելու լինես եւ այնտեղ յիշես, թէ քո եղբայրը քո դէմ մի ոխ ունի,
"If therefore when you are offering your gift upon the altar, and there remember that your brother has a grievance against you,
24 քո ընծան թո՛ղ սեղանի առաջ եւ գնա՛ նախ հաշտուի՛ր քո եղբօր հետ եւ ապա ե՛կ քո ընծան մատուցի՛ր:
"leave there your gift before the altar, and go and make friends with your brother, first of all; then come and offer your gift.
25 Եթէ մէկը քեզ հետ խնդիր ունի եւ քեզ դատի է կանչում, մինչ նրա հետ դեռ ճանապարհին ես, եղի՛ր իրաւախոհ կանխաւ. գուցէ նա քեզ դատաւորին յանձնի, եւ դատաւորը՝ դահճին, ու դու բանտ նետուես:
"Come to terms with your opponent quickly, while you are yet with him on the way to the court, to prevent your opponent from handing you over to the judge, and the judge to the jailer, and so you be thrown into prison.
26 Ճշմարիտ եմ ասում քեզ, այնտեղից դուրս չես գայ, մինչեւ չվճարես վերջին դահեկանը:
"I tell you truly that you would certainly not get out from there until you had paid back the last cent.
27 Լսել էք, թէ ինչ ասուեց. «Մի՛ շնանար».
"You have heard that it was said, "Thou shalt not commit adultery.
28 իսկ ես ձեզ ասում եմ. ամէն մարդ, որ կնոջ նայում է նրան ցանկանալու համար, արդէն շնացաւ նրա հետ իր սրտում:
But I say to you that whoever looks with lust at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29 Եթէ քո աջ աչքը քեզ գայթակղեցնում է, հանի՛ր այն եւ դէ՛ն գցիր քեզնից. որովհետեւ քեզ համար լաւ է, որ քո անդամներից մէկը կորչի, եւ քո ամբողջ մարմինը չընկնի գեհեն: (Geenna g1067)
And if your eye, your right eye, entices you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to lose one of your bodily organs, than to have your whole body go down into the pit. (Geenna g1067)
30 Եւ եթէ քո աջ ձեռքը քեզ գայթակղեցնում է, կտրի՛ր այն եւ դէ՛ն գցիր քեզնից. որովհետեւ քեզ համար լաւ է, որ քո անդամներից մէկը կորչի, եւ քո ամբողջ մարմինը չընկնի գեհեն: (Geenna g1067)
And if your right hand entices you into sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of your bodily organs, than to have your whole body go down into the pit. (Geenna g1067)
31 Արդարեւ ասուել է. «Ով որ արձակի իր կնոջը, թող նրան արձակման թուղթը տայ»:
"It was also said, "Whoever divorces his wife must give her a bill of separation.
32 Իսկ ես ձեզ ասում եմ. ամէն մարդ, որ իր կնոջն արձակում է առանց պոռնկութեան պատճառի, նա՛ է, որ նրան շնութեան է մղում. եւ ով որ արձակուածին է առնում, շնանում է:
But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, makes her an adulteress, and whoever marries her when so divorced, commits adultery.
33 Լսել էք դարձեալ, թէ ինչ ասուեց նախնիներին. «Երդմնազանց մի՛ լինիր, այլ արա՛ Տիրոջն այն, ինչ երդուել ես»:
"Again you have heard that it was said to the men of old, "You must not forswear yourselves, but must perform your vows to the Lord.
34 Իսկ ես ձեզ ասում եմ՝ ամենեւի՛ն չերդուել. ո՛չ երկնքի վրայ, որովհետեւ Աստծու աթոռն է,
"But I say to you, swear not at all; neither by the sky, for it is God’s throne;
35 ո՛չ երկրի վրայ, որովհետեւ նրա ոտքերին պատուանդան է, եւ ո՛չ Երուսաղէմի վրայ, որովհետեւ մեծ Արքայի քաղաքն է:
"nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.
36 Եւ քո գլխով էլ չերդուես, որովհետեւ չես կարող մի մազ իսկ սպիտակ կամ սեւ դարձնել:
"Nor must you swear by your head, since you cannot make one hair white or black.
37 Այլ ձեր խօսքը լինի՝ այոն՝ այո, եւ ոչը՝ ոչ. որովհետեւ դրանից աւելին չարից է:
"But let your word be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the Evil One.
38 Լսել էք՝ ինչ ասուեց. «Աչքի փոխարէն՝ աչք եւ ատամի փոխարէն՝ ատամ»:
"You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.
39 Իսկ ես ձեզ ասում եմ. չարին հակառակ չկանգնե՛լ. այլ եթէ մէկը քո աջ ծնօտին ապտակ տայ, նրան մի՛ւսն էլ դարձրու:
"But I tell you not to retaliate the injury; but whoever strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other to him also;
40 Եւ եթէ մէկը կամենայ քեզ բռնադատել եւ քո շապիկն առնել, նրան քո բաճկո՛նն էլ թող:
"and if any one wants to go to law with you and takes away your coat, let him take your cloak also.
41 Եւ եթէ մէկը քեզ հարկադրի մի մղոն ճանապարհ անցնել, նրա հետ երկո՛ւ էլ գնա:
"Whoever impresses you to go one mile, go two miles with him.
42 Տո՛ւր նրան, ով քեզնից խնդրում է. եւ ով կամենում է քեզնից փոխ առնել, երես մի՛ դարձրու նրանից:
"Give to him who asks, and from him who wants to borrow from you, do not turn away.
43 Լսել էք արդարեւ, թէ ինչ ասուեց. «Պիտի սիրես ընկերոջդ եւ պիտի ատես քո թշնամուն»:
"You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy."
44 Իսկ ես ձեզ ասում եմ. սիրեցէ՛ք ձեր թշնամիներին, օրհնեցէ՛ք ձեզ անիծողներին, բարութի՛ւն արէք ձեզ ատողներին եւ աղօթեցէ՛ք նրանց համար, որ չարչարում են ձեզ եւ հալածում,
"But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.
45 որպէսզի որդիները լինէք ձեր Հօր, որ երկնքում է. քանի որ նա իր արեգակը ծագեցնում է չարերի եւ բարիների վրայ եւ անձրեւ է թափում արդարների եւ մեղաւորների վրայ:
"So you will become sons of your heavenly Father; for he makes his sun to rise upon sinners as well as saints, and sends rain upon the unjust and the just.
46 Եթէ սիրէք միայն նրանց, որոնք ձեզ սիրում են, ձեր վարձն ի՞նչ է. չէ՞ որ մաքսաւորներն էլ նոյնն են անում:
"For if you love only those who love you, what reward have you?
47 Եւ եթէ միայն ձեր բարեկամներին ողջոյն տաք, ի՞նչ աւելի բան էք անում. չէ՞ որ մաքսաւորներն ու մեղաւորները նոյնն են անում:
"Even the tax-gatherers do that, do they not? And if you show courtesy to your brother only, what are you doing more than others? Even the Gentiles do that, do they not?
48 Արդ, կատարեա՛լ եղէք դուք, ինչպէս որ ձեր երկնաւոր Հայրն է կատարեալ»:
"You then must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
