زَكَريّا 1

١ 1 فِي الشَّهْرِ الثَّامِنِ مِنَ السَّنَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ لِحُكْمِ دَارِيُّوسَ أَوْحَى الرَّبُّ بِهَذِهِ الْكَلِمَةِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ بَرَخِيَّا بْنِ عِدُّو قَائِلاً:

In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, a word of YHWH has been to Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo the prophet, saying,

٢ 2 «لَقَدْ غَضِبَ الرَّبُّ أَشَدَّ الْغَضَبِ عَلَى آبَائِكُمْ.

“YHWH was angry against your fathers—wrath!

٣ 3 وَلَكِنْ قُلْ لَهُمْ، هَذَا مَا يُعْلِنُهُ الرَّبُّ الْقَدِيرُ: ارْجِعُوا إِلَيَّ فَأَرْجِعَ إِلَيْكُمْ، يَقُولُ الرَّبُّ الْقَدِيرُ.

And you have said to them, Thus said YHWH of Hosts: Return to Me, A declaration of YHWH of Hosts, And I return to you, said YHWH of Hosts.

٤ 4 وَلاَ تَكُونُوا كَآبَائِكُمُ الَّذِينَ نَادَاهُمُ الأَنْبِيَاءُ السَّالِفُونَ قَائِلِينَ: هَكَذَا يَقُولُ الرَّبُّ الْقَدِيرُ، ارْجِعُوا عَنْ طُرُقِكُمُ الْبَاطِلَةِ وَأَعْمَالِكُمُ الشِّرِّيرَةِ، وَلَكِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَسْمَعُوا وَلَمْ يُصْغُوا إِلَيَّ، يَقُولُ الرَّبُّ.

You will not be as your fathers, To whom the former prophets called, Saying, Thus said YHWH of Hosts: Please turn back from your evil ways and from your evil doings, And they did not listen, Nor attend to Me—a declaration of YHWH.

٥ 5 أَيْنَ هُمْ آبَاؤُكُمْ؟ وَهَلْ يَحْيَا الأَنْبِيَاءُ إِلَى الأَبَدِ؟

Your fathers—where [are] they? And the prophets—do they live for all time?

٦ 6 وَلَكِنْ أَلَمْ تُدْرِكْ أَقْوَالِي وَفَرَائِضِي الَّتِي أَمَرْتُ بِهَا عَبِيدِي الأَنْبِيَاءَ آبَاءَكُمْ فَتَابُوا قَائِلِينَ: لَقَدْ نَفَّذَ الرَّبُّ الْقَدِيرُ مَا عَزَمَ أَنْ يُعَاقِبَنَا بِمُقْتَضَى مَا ارْتَكَبْنَاهُ مِنْ أَعْمَالٍ بَاطِلَةٍ؟»

Only, My words and My statutes, That I commanded My servants the prophets, Have they not overtaken your fathers? And they turn back and say: As YHWH of Hosts designed to do to us, According to our ways, and according to our doings, So He has done to us.”

٧ 7 وَفِي الْيَوْمِ الرَّابِعِ وَالْعِشْرِينَ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ الْحَادِي عَشَرَ، أَيْ شَهْرِ شَبَاطَ الْعِبْرِيِّ، مِنَ السَّنَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ لِحُكْمِ دَارِيُّوسَ أَوْحَى الرَّبُّ بِهَذِهِ الْكَلِمَةِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ بَرَخِيَّا بْنِ عِدُّو قَائِلاً:

On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month (it [is] the month of Sebat), in the second year of Darius, a word of YHWH has been to Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo the prophet. [He was] saying:

٨ 8 «شَاهَدْتُ فِي رُؤْيَا اللَّيْلِ وَإِذَا بِرَجُلٍ يَمْتَطِي فَرَساً أَحْمَرَ اللَّوْنِ يَقِفُ بَيْنَ أَشْجَارِ الآسِ الْمُتَوَارِيَةِ فِي الْوَادِي، وَخَلْفَهُ رِجَالٌ رَاكِبُونَ عَلَى خَيْلٍ حُمْرٍ وَشُقْرٍ وَبِيضٍ.

I have seen by night, and behold, one riding on a red horse, and he is standing between the myrtles that [are] in the shade, and behind him [are] horses, red, bay, and white.

٩ 9 فَسَأَلْتُ: «مَنْ هَؤُلاَءِ يَاسَيِّدِي؟» فَأَجَابَنِي الْمَلاَكُ الَّذِي كَلَّمَنِي: «أَنَا أُخْبِرُكَ مَنْ هَؤُلاَءِ».

And I say, “What [are] these, my lord?” And the messenger who is speaking with me says to me, “I show you what these [are].”

١٠ 10 قَالَ الْفَارِسُ الْوَاقِفُ بَيْنَ الآسِ: «هَؤُلاَءِ هُمُ الَّذِينَ أَوْفَدَهُمُ الرَّبُّ لِيَجُولُوا فِي الأَرْضِ».

And the one who is standing between the myrtles answers and says, “These [are] they whom YHWH has sent to walk up and down in the land.”

١١ 11 عِنْدَئِذٍ قَالَ رَاكِبُو الْجِيَادِ لِلْمَلاَكِ الْوَاقِفِ بَيْنَ الآسِ: «قَدْ جُلْنَا فِي الأَرْضِ، فَإِذَا بِهَا كُلِّهَا آمِنَةٌ مُطْمَئِنَّةٌ».

And they answer the Messenger of YHWH who is standing between the myrtles, and say, “We have walked up and down in the land, and behold, all the land is sitting still, and at rest.”

١٢ 12 فَقَالَ الْمَلاَكُ: «إِلَى مَتَى أَيُّهَا الرَّبُّ الْقَدِيرُ لاَ تُشْفِقُ عَلَى أُورُشَلِيمَ وَمُدُنِ يَهُوذَا الَّتِي سَخِطْتَ عَلَيْهَا طَوَالَ هَذِهِ السَّبْعِينَ سَنَةً؟»

And the Messenger of YHWH answers and says, “YHWH of Hosts! Until when do You not pity Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, that You have abhorred these seventy years?”

١٣ 13 فَأَجَابَ الرَّبُّ الْمَلاَكَ الَّذِي كَلَّمَنِي، بِعِبَارَاتٍ طَيِّبَةٍ مُعَزِّيَةٍ.

And YHWH answers the messenger, who is speaking with me, good words, comfortable words.

١٤ 14 ثُمَّ خَاطَبَنِي الْمَلاَكُ قَائِلاً: «نَادِ، هَذَا مَا يَقُولُهُ الرَّبُّ الْقَدِيرُ: إِنِّي قَدْ غِرْتُ عَلَى أُورُشَلِيمَ وَعَلَى صِهْيَوْنَ غَيْرَةً عَظِيمَةً.

And the messenger who is speaking with me, says to me, “Call, saying, Thus said YHWH of Hosts: I have been zealous for Jerusalem, And for Zion [with] great zeal.

١٥ 15 وَلَكِنَّ غَضَبِي مُتَأَجِّجٌ عَلَى الأُمَمِ الْمُتَنَعِّمَةِ. لَقَدِ اغْتَظْتُ قَلِيلاً مِنْ شَعْبِي إِلاَّ أَنَّهُمْ زَادُوا مِنْ فَوَاجِعِهِمْ.

And [with] great wrath I am angry against the nations who are at ease, For I was a little angry, and they assisted—for evil.

١٦ 16 لِذَلِكَ يَقُولُ الرَّبُّ سَأَرْجِعُ إِلَى أُورُشَلِيمَ بِفَيْضٍ مِنَ الْمَرَاحِمِ، فَيُبْنَى هَيْكَلِي فِيهَا وَتَعْمُرُ أُورُشَلِيمُ، يَقُولُ الرَّبُّ الْقَدِيرُ.

Therefore, thus said YHWH: I have turned to Jerusalem with mercies, My house is built in it, A declaration of YHWH of Hosts, And a line is stretched over Jerusalem.

١٧ 17 وَاهْتِفْ أَيْضاً قَائِلاً: هَذَا مَا يَقُولُهُ الرَّبُّ الْقَدِيرُ: سَتَفِيضُ مُدُنِي خَيْراً ثَانِيَةً، وَيَرْجِعُ الرَّبُّ فَيُعَزِّي صِهْيَوْنَ وَيَصْطَفِي أُورُشَلِيمَ».

Again call, saying, Thus said YHWH of Hosts: Again My cities overflow from good, And YHWH has again comforted Zion, And He has fixed again on Jerusalem.”

١٨ 18 ثُمَّ رَفَعْتُ نَظَرِي وَإِذَا بِي أَرَى أَرْبَعَةَ قُرُونٍ.

And I lift up my eyes, and look, and behold, four horns.

١٩ 19 فَقُلْتُ لِلْمَلاَكِ: «مَا هَذِهِ؟» فَأَجَابَ: «هَذِهِ هِيَ الْقُرُونُ الَّتِي بَدَّدَتْ أَهْلَ يَهُوذَا وَإِسْرَائِيلَ وَأُورُشَلِيمَ».

And I say to the messenger who is speaking with me, “What [are] these?” And he says to me, “These [are] the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”

٢٠ 20 وَأَرَانِي الرَّبُّ أَرْبَعَةَ صُنَّاعٍ،

And YHWH shows me four artisans.

٢١ 21 فَسَأَلْتُ: «مَا الَّذِي جَاءَ يَفْعَلُهُ هَؤُلاَءِ الرِّجَالُ؟» فَأَجَابَ: «هَذِهِ هِيَ الْقُرُونُ (أَيِ الأُمَمُ) الَّتِي بَدَّدَتْ أَهْلَ يَهُوذَا حَتَّى ذَلَّتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ. أَمَّا هَؤُلاَءِ الصُّنَّاعُ فَقَدْ أَقْبَلُوا لِيُوْقِعُوا الرُّعْبَ فِي نُفُوسِ الأُمَمِ الَّتِي هَاجَمَتْ أَرْضَ يَهُوذَا لِيَطْرُدُوا أَهْلَهَا».

And I say, “What [are] these coming to do?” And He speaks, saying, “These [are] the horns that have scattered Judah, so that no one has lifted up his head, and these come to trouble them, to cast down the horns of the nations who are lifting up a horn against the land of Judah—to scatter it.”
