الأمثال 3

١ 1 يَاابْنِي لاَ تَنْسَ تَعَالِيمِي، وَلْيُرَاعِ قَلْبُكَ وَصَايَايَ.

My son, do not forget my teaching; but let your heart keep my commandments:

٢ 2 لأَنَّهَا تَمُدُّ فِي أَيَّامِ عُمْرِكَ، وَتَزِيدُكَ سِنِي حَيَاةٍ وَسَلاَماً.

for length of days, and years of life, and peace, will they add to you.

٣ 3 لاَ تَدَعِ الرَّحْمَةَ وَالأَمَانَةَ يَتَخَلَّيَانِ عَنْكَ، بَلْ تَقَلَّدْهُمَا فِي عُنُقِكَ، وَاكْتُبْهُمَا عَلَى صَفْحَةِ قَلْبِكَ،

Do not let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart.

٤ 4 فَتَحْظَى بِالرِّضَى وَحُسْنِ السِّيرَةِ فِي عُيُونِ اللهِ وَالنَّاسِ.

So you will find favor, and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

٥ 5 اتَّكِلْ عَلَى الرَّبِّ بِكُلِّ قَلْبِكَ، وَعَلَى فِطْنَتِكَ لاَ تَعْتَمِدْ.

Trust in YHWH with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

٦ 6 اعْرِفِ الرَّبَّ فِي كُلِّ طُرُقِكَ وَهُوَ يُقَوِّمُ سُبُلَكَ.

In all your ways remember him, and he will make your paths straight.

٧ 7 لاَ تَكُنْ حَكِيماً فِي عَيْنَيْ نَفْسِكَ بَلِ اتَّقِ الرَّبَّ وَحِدْ عَنِ الشَّرِّ،

Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear YHWH, and depart from evil.

٨ 8 فَيَتَمَتَّعَ جَسَدُكَ بِالصِّحَّةِ، وَتَتَمَتَّعَ عِظَامُكَ بِالارْتِوَاءِ.

It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones.

٩ 9 أَكْرِمِ الرَّبَّ مِنْ مَالِكَ، وَمِنْ أَوَائِلِ غَلاَتِ مَحَاصِيلِكَ.

Honor YHWH with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase:

١٠ 10 فَتَمْتَلِئَ مَخَازِنُكَ وَفْرَةً، وَتَفِيضَ مَعَاصِرُكَ خَمْراً.

so your storehouses will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.

١١ 11 يَاابْنِي لاَ تَحْتَقِرْ تَأْدِيبَ الرَّبِّ وَلاَ تَكْرَهْ تَوْبِيخَهُ،

My son, do not despise the discipline of YHWH, nor resent his correction.

١٢ 12 لأَنَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّهُ الرَّبُّ يُؤَدِّبُهُ، وَيُسَرُّ بِهِ كَمَا يُسَرُّ أَبٌ بِابْنِهِ.

For whom YHWH loves he disciplines, and punishes every son he accepts.

١٣ 13 طُوبَى لِلإِنْسَانِ الَّذِي عَثَرَ عَلَى الْحِكْمَةِ وَلِلرَّجُلِ الَّذِي أَحْرَزَ فَهْماً،

Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding.

١٤ 14 لأَنَّ مَكَاسِبَهَا أَفْضَلُ مِنْ مَكَاسِبِ الْفِضَّةِ، وَأَرْبَاحَهَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَرْبَاحِ الذَّهَبِ الْخَالِصِ.

For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold.

١٥ 15 هِيَ أَثْمَنُ مِنَ الْجَوَاهِرِ، وَكُلُّ نَفَائِسِكَ لاَ تُعَادِلُهَا.

She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her.

١٦ 16 فِي يَمِينِهَا حَيَاةٌ مَدِيدَةٌ وَفِي يَسَارِهَا غِنىً وَجَاهٌ.

Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor.

١٧ 17 طُرُقُهَا طُرُقُ نِعَمٍ، وَدُرُوبُهَا دُرُوبُ سَلاَمٍ.

Her ways are ways of pleasantness. All her paths are peace.

١٨ 18 هِيَ شَجَرَةُ حَيَاةٍ لِمَنْ يَتَشَبَّثُ بِهَا، وَهَنِيئاً لِمَنْ يَتَمَسَّكُ بِهَا.

She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her, and those who hold on to her are blessed

١٩ 19 بِالْحِكْمَةِ أَسَّسَ الرَّبُّ الأَرْضَ، وَبِالْفِطْنَةِ ثَبَّتَ السَّمَاوَاتِ فِي مَوَاضِعِهَا.

By wisdom YHWH founded the earth. By understanding, he established the heavens.

٢٠ 20 بِعِلْمِهِ تَفَجَّرَتِ اللُّجَجُ، وَقَطَرَ السَّحَابُ نَدىً.

By his knowledge, the depths were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew.

٢١ 21 فَلاَ تَبْرَحْ يَاابْنِي هَذِهِ مِنْ أَمَامِ عَيْنَيْكَ وَاعْمَلْ بِالرَّأْيِ الصَّائِبِ وَالتَّدْبِيرِ.

My son, let them not depart from your eyes. Keep sound wisdom and discretion:

٢٢ 22 فَيَكُونَ هَذَانِ حَيَاةً لِنَفْسِكَ وَقَلاَدَةً تُجَمِّلُ عُنُقَكَ.

so they will be life to your soul, and grace for your neck.

٢٣ 23 فَتَسْلُكُ آنَئِذٍ فِي طَرِيقِكَ آمِناً وَلاَ تَتَعَثَّرُ قَدَمُكَ.

Then you shall walk in your way securely, and your foot won't stumble.

٢٤ 24 إِذَا اضْطَجَعْتَ لاَ يَعْتَرِيكَ خَوْفٌ، بَلْ تَرْقُدُ مُتَمَتِّعاً بِالنَّوْمِ اللَّذِيذِ.

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet.

٢٥ 25 لاَ تَفْزَعْ مِنْ بَلِيَّةٍ مُبَاغِتَةٍ، وَلاَ مِمَّا يَجْرِي عَلَى الأَشْرَارِ مِنْ خَرَابٍ إِذَا حَلَّ بِهِمْ.

Do not be afraid of sudden fear, or of the storm of the wicked when it comes:

٢٦ 26 لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ يَكُونُ مُعْتَمَدَكَ، وَيَصُونُ رِجْلَكَ مِنَ الشَّرَكِ.

for YHWH will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken.

٢٧ 27 لاَ تَحْجُبِ الإِحْسَانَ عَنْ أَهْلِهِ كُلَّمَا كَانَ فِي وُسْعِكَ أَنْ تَقُومَ بِهِ.

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.

٢٨ 28 لاَ تَقُلْ لِجَارِكَ: «اذْهَبِ الآنَ، ثُمَّ عُدْ ثَانِيَةً. غَداً أُعْطِيكَ مَا تَطْلُبُ»، طَالَمَا لَدَيْكَ مَا يَطْلُبُ.

Do not say to your neighbor, "Go, and come again; tomorrow I will give it to you," when you have it by you.

٢٩ 29 لاَ تَتَآمَرْ بِالشَّرِّ عَلَى جَارِكَ الْمُقِيمِ مُطْمَئِنّاً إِلَى جُوَارِكَ.

Do not devise evil against your neighbor, seeing he dwells securely by you.

٣٠ 30 لاَ تُخَاصِمْ أَحَداً مِنْ غَيْرِ عِلَّةٍ طَالَمَا لَمْ يُؤْذِكَ.

Do not strive with a man without cause, if he has done you no harm.

٣١ 31 لاَ تَغَرْ مِنَ الظَّالِمِ وَلاَ تَخْتَرْ طُرُقَهُ.

Do not envy the man of violence. Choose none of his ways.

٣٢ 32 لأَنَّ الْمُلْتَوِيَ رِجْسٌ لَدَى الرَّبِّ، أَمَّا الْمُسْتَقِيمُونَ فَهُمْ أَهْلُ ثِقَتِهِ.

For the perverse is an abomination to YHWH, but his friendship is with the upright.

٣٣ 33 لَعْنَةُ الرَّبِّ تَنْصَبُّ عَلَى بَيْتِ الشِّرِّيرِ، لَكِنَّهُ يُبَارِكُ مَسْكَنَ الصِّدِّيقِ.

YHWH's curse is in the house of the wicked, but he blesses the habitation of the righteous.

٣٤ 34 يَسخَرُ مِنَ الْمُسْتَكْبِرِينَ السَّاخِرِينَ، وَيُغْدِقُ رِضَاهُ عَلَى الْمُتَوَاضِعِينَ

Surely he is scornful to scoffers, but he gives grace to the humble.

٣٥ 35 يَرِثُ الْحُكَمَاءُ كَرَامَةً، أَمَّا الْحَمْقَى فَيَرْتَدُونَ الْعَارَ.

The wise will inherit glory, but shame will be the promotion of fools.
