الأمثال 19
| الْفَقِيرُ السَّالِكُ بِكَمَالِهِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِ الْمُخَاتِلِ. | ١ 1 |
Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.
| لاَ يَجْدُرُ بِالْمَرْءِ أَنْ يَخْلُوَ مِنَ الْمَعْرِفَةِ، وَمَنْ يَتَعَجَّلِ الأُمُورَ يُخْطِئِ الْغَرَضَ. | ٢ 2 |
It is not good to have zeal without knowledge; nor being hasty with one’s feet and missing the way.
| عِنْدَمَا تُسِيءُ حَمَاقَةُ الإِنْسَانِ إِلَى حَيَاتِهِ، يَسْخَطُ قَلْبُهُ عَلَى اللهِ. | ٣ 3 |
The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against Adonai.
| الْغَنِيُّ يَجْتَذِبُ كَثْرَةً مِنَ الأَصْدِقَاءِ، أَمَّا الْفَقِيرُ فَيَهْجُرُهُ خَلِيلُهُ. | ٤ 4 |
Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend.
| شَاهِدُ الزُّورِ لاَ يَنْجُو مِنَ الْعِقَابِ، وَنَافِثُ الْكَذِبِ لاَ يُفْلِتُ مِنَ الْقِصَاصِ. | ٥ 5 |
A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free.
| كَثِيرُونَ يَتَمَلَّقُونَ صَاحِبَ النُّفُوذِ، وَالْكُلُّ صَاحِبٌ لِلَّذِي يُغْدِقُ الْعَطَايَا. | ٦ 6 |
Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.
| جَمِيعُ إخْوَةِ الْفَقِيرِ يَمْقُتُونَهُ، فَمَا أَحْرَى أَنْ يَتَهَرَّبَ مِنْهُ أَصْدِقَاؤُهُ؛ يُلاَحِقُهُمْ بِتَوَسُّلاَتِهِ وَلاَ يَجِدُ لَهُمْ أَثَراً. | ٧ 7 |
All the relatives of the poor shun him: how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone.
| مَنِ اقْتَنَى حِكْمَةً أَحَبَّ نَفْسَهُ، وَمَنِ ادَّخَرَ الْفَهْمَ يَلْقَى خَيْراً. | ٨ 8 |
He who gets wisdom 'ahav ·affectionately loves· his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good.
| شَاهِدُ الزُّورِ لاَ يُفْلِتُ مِنَ الْعِقَابِ، وَنَافِثُ الأَكَاذِيبِ يَهْلِكُ. | ٩ 9 |
A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish.
| لاَ يَلِيقُ التَّنَعُّمُ بِالْجَاهِلِ، فَكَمْ بِالْحَرِيِّ أَنْ يَتَسَلَّطَ عَلَى الرُّؤَسَاءِ؟ | ١٠ 10 |
Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
| تَعَقُّلُ الإِنْسَانِ يَكْبَحُ غَضَبَهُ، وَبَهَاؤُهُ فِي الْعَفْوِ عَنِ الْخَطَأِ. | ١١ 11 |
The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.
| حَنَقُ الْمَلِكِ كَزَمْجَرَةِ الأَسَدِ، وَرِضَاهُ كَالطَّلِّ عَلَى الْعُشْبِ. | ١٢ 12 |
The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
| الابْنُ الْجَاهِلُ مَدْعَاةُ خَرَابٍ لأَبِيهِ، وَمُخَاصَمَاتُ الزَّوْجَةِ كَنَقْرِ قَطَرَاتِ الْمَطَرِ الْمُتَتَابِعَةِ، | ١٣ 13 |
A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife’s quarrels are a continual dripping.
| الْبَيْتُ وَالثَّرْوَةُ مِيَراثٌ مِنَ الآبَاءِ، أَمَّا الزَّوْجَةُ الْعَاقِلَةُ فَهِيَ مِنْ عِنْدِ الرَّبِّ. | ١٤ 14 |
House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Adonai.
| الْكَسَلُ يُغْرِقُ فِي سَبَاتٍ عَمِيقٍ، وَالنَّفْسُ الْمُتَقَاعِسَةُ تُقَاسِي مِنَ الْجُوعِ. | ١٥ 15 |
Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger.
| مَنْ يُطِعْ الْوَصِيَّةَ يَصُنْ نَفْسَهُ، وَالْمُتَهَاوِنُ فِي تَصَرُّفَاتِهِ يَلْقَى الْمَوْتَ. | ١٦ 16 |
He who keeps a mitzvah ·instruction· keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die.
| مَنْ يَرْحَمْ الْفَقِيرَ يُقْرِضْ الرَّبَّ، وَيُكَافِئْهُ الرَّبُّ عَلَى حُسْنِ صَنِيعِهِ. | ١٧ 17 |
He who has pity on the poor lends to Adonai; he will reward him.
| أَدِّبِ ابْنَكَ مَادَامَ فِي ذَلِكَ رَجَاءٌ، وَلاَ تَحْمِلْ نَفْسَكَ عَلَى قَتْلِهِ. | ١٨ 18 |
Discipline your son, for there is hope; don’t be a willing party to his death.
| الْجَامِحُ الْغَضَبِ يَدْفَعُ ثَمَنَ جُمُوحِهِ، وَإِنْ كَبَحْتَهُ أَوِ اعْتَرَضْتَهُ فَإِنَّكَ تَزِيدُهُ سُوءاً | ١٩ 19 |
A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again.
| اسْتَمِعْ إِلَى الْمَشُورَةِ، وَاقْبَلِ التَّأْدِيبَ، فَتَكْتَسِبَ حِكْمَةً بَقِيَّةَ حَيَاتِكَ. | ٢٠ 20 |
Sh'ma ·Hear obey· counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.
| كَثِيرَةٌ هِيَ نَوَايَا قَلْبِ الإِنْسَانِ، إِنَّمَا مَشُورَةُ الرَّبِّ هِيَ الَّتِي تَسُودُ. | ٢١ 21 |
There are many plans in a man’s heart, but Adonai’s counsel will prevail.
| حُسْنُ الْجَمِيلِ زِينَةُ النَّاسِ، وَالْفَقِيرُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْغَنِيِّ الْكَاذِبِ. | ٢٢ 22 |
That which makes a man to be desired is his cheshed ·loving-kindness·. A poor man is better than a liar.
| تَقْوَى الرَّبِّ تُفْضِي إِلَى الْحَيَاةِ، وَصَاحِبُهَا يَبِيتُ مُطْمَئِنّاً وَلاَ يَنَالُهُ شَرٌّ. | ٢٣ 23 |
The fear of Adonai leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble.
| الْكَسُولُ يَدْفِنُ يَدَهُ فِي صَحْنِهِ وَلاَ يَرُدُّهَا حَتَّى إِلَى فَمِهِ. | ٢٤ 24 |
The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
| اضْرِبِ الْمُسْتَهْزِئَ فَيَتَعَقَّلَ الأَحْمَقُ، وَوَبِّخِ العَاقِلَ فَيَكْتَسِبَ فَهْماً. | ٢٥ 25 |
Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.
| مَنْ يُخَرِّبْ حَيَاةَ أَبِيهِ، وَيُشَرِّدْ أُمَّهُ هُوَ ابْنٌ يَجْلِبُ الْخِزْيَ وَالْعَارَ. | ٢٦ 26 |
He who robs his father and drives away his mother, is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.
| كُفَّ يَاابْنِي عَنِ الإِصْغَاءِ إِلَى التَّعْلِيمِ الَّذِي يُضِلُّكَ عَنْ كَلِمَاتِ الْمَعْرِفَةِ. | ٢٧ 27 |
If you stop sh'ma ·hearing obeying· instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
| الشَّاهِدُ الْمُنَافِقُ يَسْخَرُ مِنَ الْقَضَاءِ، وَفَمُ الأَشْرَارِ يَبْتَلِعُ الإِثْمَ. | ٢٨ 28 |
A corrupt witness mocks mishpat ·justice·, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity.
| الْعِقَابُ مُعَدٌّ لِلسَّاخِرِينَ، وَجَلْدُ السِّيَاطِ مُهَيَّأٌ لِظُهُورِ الْجُهَّالِ. | ٢٩ 29 |
Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
