عَدَد 16

١ 1 وَشَرَعَ قُورَحُ بْنُ يِصْهَارَ بْنِ قَهَاتَ بْنِ لاوِي، وَدَاثَانُ وَأَبِيرَامُ ابْنَا أَلِيَآبَ، وَأُونُ بْنُ فَالَتَ مِنْ سِبْطِ رَأُوبَيْنَ،

And Korah, son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, taketh both Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, sons of Reuben,

٢ 2 يَتَآمَرُونَ عَلَى مُوسَى، مَعَ مِئَتَيْنِ وَخَمْسِينَ مِنْ رُؤَسَاءِ جَمَاعَةِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، ذَوِي الْمَكَانَةِ مِمَّنْ تَمَّ تَعْيِينُهُمْ فِي الْمَجْلِسِ.

and they rise up before Moses, with men of the sons of Israel, two hundred and fifty, princes of the company, called of the convention, men of name,

٣ 3 هَؤُلاءِ تَأَلَّبُوا عَلَى مُوسَى وَهَرُونَ وَقَالُوا: «حَسْبُكُمَا! إِنَّ كُلَّ الْجَمَاعَةِ بِأَسْرِهَا مُقَدَّسَةٌ، وَفِي وَسَطِهَا الرَّبُّ. فَمَا بَالُكُمَا تَتَرَفَّعَانِ عَلَى جَمَاعَةِ الرَّبِّ؟»

and they are assembled against Moses and against Aaron, and say unto them, 'Enough of you! for all the company — all of them [are] holy, and in their midst [is] Jehovah; and wherefore do ye lift yourselves up above the assembly of Jehovah?'

٤ 4 فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ مُوسَى هَذَا، أَكَبَّ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ،

And Moses heareth, and falleth on his face,

٥ 5 ثُمَّ قَالَ لِقُورَحَ وَسَائِرِ جَمَاعَتِهِ: «غَداً يُعْلِنُ الرَّبُّ مَنْ هُوَ لَهُ، وَمَنْ هُوَ الْمُقَدَّسُ فَيُقَرِّبُهُ مِنْهُ.

and he speaketh unto Korah, and unto all his company, saying, 'Morning! — and Jehovah is knowing those who are his, and him who is holy, and hath brought near unto Him; even him whom He doth fix on He bringeth near unto Him.

٦ 6 وَلَكِنْ يَا قُورَحُ افْعَلْ هَذَا أَنْتَ وَجَمَاعَتُكَ: خُذُوا لَكُمْ مَجَامِرَ،

This do: take to yourselves censers, Korah, and all his company,

٧ 7 وَضَعُوا فِيهَا نَاراً وَبَخُوراً أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ غَداً. وَالرَّجُلُ الَّذِي يَخْتَارُهُ الرَّبُّ يَكُونُ هُوَ الْمُقَدَّسُ، فَحَسْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا اللّاوِيُّونَ!»

and put in them fire, and put on them perfume, before Jehovah to-morrow, and it hath been, the man whom Jehovah chooseth, he [is] the holy one; — enough of you, sons of Levi.'

٨ 8 وَأَضَافَ مُوسَى قَائِلاً لِقُورَحَ: «اسْتَمِعُوا يَا بَنِي لاوِي،

And Moses saith unto Korah, 'Hear ye, I pray you, sons of Levi;

٩ 9 أَلَمْ يَكْفِكُمْ أَنَّ إِلَهَ إِسْرَائِيلَ قَدْ أَفْرَزَكُمْ مِنْ بَيْنِ الشَّعْبِ لِيُقَرِّبَكُمْ إِلَيْهِ لِكَيْ تَخْدِمُوا مَسْكَنَ الرَّبِّ وَتَقِفُوا فِي حَضْرَةِ الشَّعْبِ كُلِّهِ لِخِدْمَتِهِ.

is it little to you that the God of Israel hath separated you from the company of Israel to bring you near unto Himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of Jehovah, and to stand before the company to serve them? —

١٠ 10 فَقَرَّبَكَ مَعَ بَقِيَّةِ إِخْوَتِكَ مِنْ بَنِي لاوِي، حَتَّى صِرْتُمْ تَطْمَعُونَ فِي الْكَهَنُوتِ.

yea, He doth bring thee near, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee — and ye have sought also the priesthood!

١١ 11 إِذَنْ أَنْتَ وَكُلُّ جَمَاعَتِكَ قَدْ تَأَلَّبْتُمْ عَلَى الرَّبِّ، لأَنَّهُ مَنْ هُوَ هَرُونُ حَتَّى تَتَذَمَّرُوا عَلَيْهِ؟»

Therefore, thou and all thy company who are met [are] against Jehovah; and Aaron, what [is] he, that ye murmur against him?'

١٢ 12 فَأَرْسَلَ مُوسَى يَسْتَدْعِي دَاثَانَ وَأَبِيرَامَ ابْنَيْ أَلِيآبَ، فَرَدَّا: «لَنْ نَحْضُرَ!

And Moses sendeth to call for Dathan and for Abiram sons of Eliab, and they say, 'We do not come up;

١٣ 13 أَلَمْ يَكْفِكَ أَنَّكَ أَخْرَجْتَنَا مِنْ أَرْضٍ تُدِرُّ لَبَناً وَعَسَلاً لِتُهْلِكَنَا فِي الصَّحْرَاءِ، ثُمَّ تَتَرَأَّسُ عَلَيْنَا؟

is it little that thou hast brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to put us to death in a wilderness that thou also certainly makest thyself prince over us?

١٤ 14 فَأَنْتَ لَمْ تَقُدْنَا إِلَى أَرْضٍ تَفِيضُ خَيْرَاتٍ، وَلا أَوْرَثْتَنَا حُقُولاً وَكُرُوماً. فَمَنْ تُحَاوِلُ أَنْ تَخْدَعَ؟ إِنَّنَا لَنْ نَحْضُرَ!»

Yea, unto a land flowing with milk and honey thou hast not brought us in, nor dost thou give to us an inheritance of field and vineyard; the eyes of these men dost thou pick out? we do not come up.'

١٥ 15 فَاحْتَدَمَ غَيْظُ مُوسَى وَقَالَ لِلرَّبِّ: «لا تَقْبَلْ تَقْدِمَتَهُمَا، فَأَنَا لَمْ آخُذْ حَتَّى حِمَاراً وَاحِداً مِنْهُمَا، وَلَمْ أُسِئْ إِلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمَا».

And it is very displeasing to Moses, and he saith unto Jehovah, 'Turn not Thou unto their present; not one ass from them have I taken, nor have I afflicted one of them.'

١٦ 16 وَقَالَ مُوسَى لِقُورَحَ: «امْثُلْ أَنْتَ وَجَمَاعَتُكَ كُلُّهَا أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ غَداً، وَكَذَلِكَ يَحْضُرُ هَرُونُ أَيْضاً.

And Moses saith unto Korah, 'Thou and all thy company, be ye before Jehovah, thou, and they, and Aaron, to-morrow;

١٧ 17 وَلْيَأْخُذْ كُلٌّ مِنْكُمْ مَجْمَرَتَهُ وَضَعُوا فِيهَا بَخُوراً، وَلْيُقَدِّمْ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مَجْمَرَتَهُ، فَتَكُونَ مِئَتَيْنِ وَخَمْسِينَ مَجْمَرَةً، وَكَذَلِكَ خُذْ أَنْتَ وَهَرُونُ، كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مَجْمَرَتَهُ».

and take ye each his censer, and ye have put on them perfume, and brought near before Jehovah, each his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; and thou and Aaron, each his censer.'

١٨ 18 فَجَاءَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ بِمَجْمَرَتِهِ وَوَضَعُوا فِيهَا نَاراً وَبَخُوراً، وَمَثَلُوا عِنْدَ مَدْخَلِ خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ مَعَ مُوسَى وَهَرُونَ.

And they take each his censer, and put on them fire, and lay on them perfume, and they stand at the opening of the tent of meeting, with Moses and Aaron.

١٩ 19 وَحَشَدَ قُورَحُ عَلَيْهِمَا كُلَّ الْجَمَاعَةِ الْمُتَآمِرَةِ عِنْدَ مَدْخَلِ خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ، فَتَرَاءَى آنَئِذٍ مَجْدُ الرَّبِّ لِلْجَمَاعَةِ كُلِّهَا.

And Korah assembleth against them all the company unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and the honour of Jehovah is seen by all the company.

٢٠ 20 وَقَالَ الرَّبُّ لِمُوسَى وَهَرُونَ:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

٢١ 21 «افْتَرِزَا مِنْ بَيْنِ هَذِهِ الْجَمَاعَةِ لأَنِّي سَأُفْنِيهِمْ فِي لَحْظَةٍ».

'Be ye separated from the midst of this company, and I consume them in a moment;'

٢٢ 22 فَانْطَرَحَا عَلَى وَجْهَيْهِمَا وَابْتَهَلا قَائِلَيْنِ: «اللهُمَّ، يَا إِلَهَ أَرْوَاحِ جَمِيعِ الْبَشَرِ، أَتَسْخَطُ عَلَى الْجَمَاعَةِ كُلِّهَا مِنْ أَجْلِ خَطِيئَةِ رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ؟»

and they fall on their faces, and say, 'God, God of the spirits of all flesh — the one man sinneth, and against all the company Thou art wroth!'

٢٣ 23 فَقَالَ الرَّبُّ لِمُوسَى:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

٢٤ 24 «اطْلُبْ مِنَ الشَّعْبِ أَنْ يَبْتَعِدُوا مِنْ حَوَالَيْ خِيَامِ قُورَحَ وَدَاثَانَ وَأَبِيرَامَ».

'Speak unto the company, saying, Go ye up from round about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.'

٢٥ 25 فَذَهَبَ مُوسَى إِلَى دَاثَانَ وَأَبِيرَامَ، وَتَبِعَهُ شُيُوخُ إِسْرَائِيلَ،

And Moses riseth, and goeth unto Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel go after him,

٢٦ 26 وَقَالَ لِلْجَمَاعَةِ كُلِّهَا: «ابْتَعِدُوا عَنْ خِيَامِ هَؤُلاءِ الْقَوْمِ الأَشْرَارِ، وَلا تَلْمَسُوا شَيْئاً مِمَّا لَهُمْ لِئَلّا تَهْلِكُوا مِنَ جَرَّاءِ خَطَايَاهُمْ».

and he speaketh unto the company, saying, 'Turn aside, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and come not against anything that they have, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.'

٢٧ 27 فَابْتَعَدُوا مِنْ حَوَالَيْ خِيَامِ قُورَحَ وَدَاثَانَ وَأَبِيرَامَ، وَخَرَجَ دَاثَانُ وَأَبِيرَامُ، وَوَقَفَا أَمَامَ خَيْمَتَيْهِمَا مَعَ زَوْجَاتِهِمَا وَأَوْلادِهِمَا صِغَاراً وَكِبَاراً.

And they go up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan and Abiram, from round about, and Dathan, and Abiram have come out, standing at the opening of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their infants.

٢٨ 28 فَقَالَ مُوسَى: «بِهَذَا تَعْرِفُونَ أَنَّ الرَّبَّ قَدْ أَرْسَلَنِي لأُجْرِيَ كُلَّ هَذِهِ الأَعْمَالِ، وَأَنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ صَادِرَةً عَنْ نَفْسِي:

And Moses saith, 'By this ye do know that Jehovah hath sent me to do all these works, that [they are] not from my own heart;

٢٩ 29 إِنْ مَاتَ هَؤُلاءِ مَوْتاً طَبِيعِيًّا، أَوِ ابْتُلُوا بِمَا يُبْتَلَى بِهِ النَّاسُ عَادَةً، فَلا يَكُونُ الرَّبُّ قَدْ أَرْسَلَنِي.

if according to the death of all men these die — or the charge of all men is charged upon them — Jehovah hath not sent me;

٣٠ 30 وَلَكِنْ إِنْ أَجْرَى الرَّبُّ أَمْراً جَدِيداً، وَانْشَقَّتِ الأَرْضُ وَابْتَلَعَتْهُمْ مَعَ كُلِّ مَالَهُمْ، وَدُفِنُوا فِي بَاطِنِ الأَرْضِ أَحْيَاءَ، عِنْدَئِذٍ تُدْرِكُونَ أَنَّ هَؤُلاءِ الْقَوْمَ قَدِ ازْدَرَوْا بِالرَّبِّ». (Sheol h7585)

and if a strange thing Jehovah do, and the ground hath opened her mouth and swallowed them, and all that they have, and they have gone down alive to Sheol — then ye have known that these men have despised Jehovah.' (Sheol h7585)

٣١ 31 وَحَالَمَا انْتَهَى مِنْ كَلامِهِ انْشَقَّتِ الأَرْضُ تَحْتَهُمْ،

And it cometh to pass at his finishing speaking all these words, that the ground which [is] under them cleaveth,

٣٢ 32 وَفَتَحَتْ فَاهَا وَابْتَلَعَتْهُمْ مَعَ بُيُوتِهِمْ، كَمَا ابْتَلَعَتْ رِجَالَ قُورَحَ مَعَ كُلِّ مَا يَمْلِكُونَ.

and the earth openeth her mouth, and swalloweth them, and their houses, and all the men who [are] for Korah, and all the goods,

٣٣ 33 فَاخْتَفَوْا هُمْ وَكُلُّ مَا يَمْلِكُونَ أَحْيَاءَ فِي بَاطِنِ الأَرْضِ الَّتِي انْطَبَقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَبَادُوا مِنْ بَيْنِ الْجَمَاعَةِ. (Sheol h7585)

and they go down, they, and all that they have, alive to Sheol, and the earth closeth over them, and they perish from the midst of the assembly; (Sheol h7585)

٣٤ 34 وَهَرَبَ الإِسْرَائِيلِيُّونَ الَّذِينَ حَوْلَهُمْ مِنْ صَوْتِ صَرَخَاتِهِمْ قَائِلِينَ: «لِئَلّا تَبْتَلِعَنَا الأَرْضُ».

and all Israel who [are] round about them have fled at their voice, for they said, 'Lest the earth swallow us;'

٣٥ 35 وَانْدَلَعَتْ نَارٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ الرَّبِّ فَالْتَهَمَتِ الْمِئَتَيْنِ وَالْخَمْسِينَ رَجُلاً الَّذِينَ قَرَّبُوا الْبَخُورَ.

and fire hath come out from Jehovah, and consumeth the two hundred and fifty men bringing near the perfume.

٣٦ 36 ثُمَّ قَالَ الرَّبُّ لِمُوسَى:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

٣٧ 37 «اطْلُبْ مِنْ أَلِعَازَارَ بْنِ هَرُونَ الْكَاهِنِ أَنْ يَجْمَعَ الْمَجَامِرَ مِنَ الْحَرِيقِ، وَلْيَذْرِ مَا فِيهَا مِنْ جَمْرٍ فَإِنَّهَا قَدْ تَقَدَّسَتْ.

'Say unto Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, and he lifteth up the censers from the midst of the burning, and the fire scatter thou yonder, for they have been hallowed,

٣٨ 38 وَاطْرُقُوا مَجَامِرَ هَؤُلاءِ الَّذِينَ أَخْطَأُوا فِي حَقِّ نُفُوسِهِمْ صَفَائِحَ، لِتَكُونَ غِشَاءً لِلْمَذْبَحِ، لأَنَّهُمْ قَدَّمُوهَا فِي حَضْرَةِ الرَّبِّ فَتَقَدَّسَتْ، فَتَكُونُ عِبْرَةً لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ».

[even] the censers of these sinners against their own souls; and they have made them spread-out plates, a covering for the altar, for they have brought them near before Jehovah, and they are hallowed; and they are become a sign to the sons of Israel.'

٣٩ 39 فَجَمَعَ أَلِعَازَارُ الْكَاهِنُ مَجَامِرَ النُّحَاسِ الَّتِي قَرَّبَهَا الْمُحْتَرِقُونَ، فَطُرِقَتْ غِشَاءً لِلْمَذْبَحِ،

And Eleazar the priest taketh the brazen censers which they who are burnt had brought near, and they spread them out, a covering for the altar —

٤٠ 40 عِبْرَةً لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ لِكَيْ لَا يَدْنُوَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ غَيْرِ نَسْلِ هَرُونَ لِيُبَخِّرَ فِي حَضْرَةِ الرَّبِّ، فَيُصِيبَهُ مَا أَصَابَ قُورَحَ وَجَمَاعَتَهُ، كَمَا كَلَّمَ الرَّبُّ مُوسَى.

a memorial to the sons of Israel, so that a stranger who is not of the seed of Aaron doth not draw near to make a perfume before Jehovah, and is not as Korah, and as his company, — as Jehovah hath spoken by the hand of Moses to him.

٤١ 41 وَفِي الْيَوْمِ الثَّانِي تَذَمَّرَ جَمِيعُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ عَلَى مُوسَى وَهَرُونَ قَائِلِينَ: «لَقَدْ قَتَلْتُمَا شَعْبَ الرَّبِّ».

And all the company of the sons of Israel murmur, on the morrow, against Moses and against Aaron, saying, 'Ye — ye have put to death the people of Jehovah.'

٤٢ 42 فَلَمَّا اجْتَمَعَتِ الْجَمَاعَةُ عَلَى مُوسَى وَهَرُونَ مَضَيَا إِلَى خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ، وَإذَا بِالسَّحَابَةِ قَدْ غَطَّتْهَا وَمَجْدُ الرَّبِّ قَدْ تَرَاءَى.

And it cometh to pass, in the company being assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they turn towards the tent of meeting, and lo, the cloud hath covered it, and the honour of Jehovah is seen;

٤٣ 43 فَأَقْبَلَ مُوسَى وَهَرُونُ إِلَى أَمَامِ خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ.

and Moses cometh — Aaron also — unto the front of the tent of meeting.

٤٤ 44 فَقَالَ الرَّبُّ لِمُوسَى:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

٤٥ 45 «اخْرُجَا مِنْ بَيْنِ هَذِهِ الْجَمَاعَةِ لأَنَّنِي سَأُفْنِيهِمْ فِي لَحْظَةٍ». فَخَرَّا عَلَى وَجْهَيْهِمَا

'Get you up from the midst of this company, and I consume them in a moment;' and they fall on their faces,

٤٦ 46 ثُمَّ قَالَ مُوسَى لِهَرُونَ: «خُذِ الْمَجْمَرَةَ وَضَعْ فِيهَا نَاراً مِنْ عَلَى الْمَذْبَحِ، وَأَيْضاً بَخُوراً، وَأَسْرِعْ إِلَى الْجَمَاعَةِ لِتُكَفِّرَ عَنْهُمْ، لأَنَّ الْغَضَبَ الْمُحْتَدِمَ قَدْ صَدَرَ عَنِ الرَّبِّ وَتَفَشَّى فِيهِمِ الْوَبَأُ».

and Moses saith unto Aaron, 'Take the censer, and put on it fire from off the altar, and place perfume, and go, hasten unto the company, and make atonement for them, for the wrath hath gone out from the presence of Jehovah — the plague hath begun.'

٤٧ 47 فَنَفَّذَ هَرُونُ أَمْرَ مُوسَى، وَأَسْرَعَ إِلَى وَسَطِ الْجَمَاعَةِ، وَإذَا بِالْوَبَأِ قَدِ ابْتَدَأَ يَتَفَشَّى فِيهِمْ، فَوَضَعَ الْبَخُورَ وَكَفَّرَ عَنِ الشَّعْبِ.

And Aaron taketh as Moses hath spoken, and runneth unto the midst of the assembly, and lo, the plague hath begun among the people; and he giveth the perfume, and maketh atonement for the people,

٤٨ 48 وَوَقَفَ هَرُونُ بَيْنَ الْمَوْتَى وَالأَحْيَاءِ، فَتَوَقَّفَ الوَبَأُ.

and standeth between the dead and the living, and the plague is restrained;

٤٩ 49 فَكَانَ الَّذِينَ هَلَكُوا بِالْوَبَإِ أَرْبَعَةَ عَشَرَ أَلْفاً وَسَبْعَ مِئَةٍ، عَدَا الَّذِينَ مَاتُوا بِسَبَبِ قُورَحَ.

and those who die by the plague are fourteen thousand and seven hundred, apart from those who die for the matter of Korah;

٥٠ 50 ثُمَّ رَجَعَ هَرُونُ إِلَى مُوسَى عِنْدَ مَدْخَلِ خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ وَقَدْ تَوَقَّفَ سَرَيَانُ الْوَبَإِ.

and Aaron turneth back unto Moses, unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and the plague hath been restrained.
