أيُّوب 38

١ 1 ثُمَّ قَالَ الرَّبُّ لأَيُّوبَ مِنَ الْعَاصِفَةِ:

And after Elius had ceased from speaking, the Lord spoke to Job through the whirlwind and clouds, [saying],

٢ 2 «مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يُظْلِمُ الْقَضَاءَ بِكَلاَمٍ مُجَرَّدٍ مِنَ الْمَعْرِفَةِ؟

Who is this that hides counsel from me, and confines words in [his] heart, and thinks to conceal [them] from me?

٣ 3 اشْدُدْ حَقَوَيْكَ كَرَجُلٍ لأَسْأَلَكَ فَتُجِيبَنِي

Gird your loins like a man; and I will ask you, and do you answer me.

٤ 4 أَيْنَ كُنْتَ عِنْدَمَا أَسَّسْتُ الأَرْضَ؟ أَخْبِرْنِي إِنْ كُنْتَ ذَا حِكْمَةٍ.

Where was you when I founded the earth? tell me now, if you have knowledge,

٥ 5 مَنْ حَدَّدَ مَقَايِيسَهَا، إِنْ كُنْتَ حَقّاً تَعْرِفُ؟ أَوْ مَنْ مَدَّ عَلَيْهَا خَيْطَ الْقِيَاسِ؟

who set the measures of it, if you know? or who stretched a line upon it?

٦ 6 عَلَى أَيِّ شَيْءٍ اسْتَقَرَّتْ قَوَاعِدُهَا؟ وَمَنْ وَضَعَ حَجَرَ زَاوِيَتِهَا؟

On what are its rings fastened? and who is he that laid the corner-stone upon it?

٧ 7 بَيْنَمَا كَانَتْ كَوَاكِبُ السَّمَاءِ تَتَرَنَّمُ مَعاً وَمَلاَئِكَةُ اللهِ تَهْتِفُ بِفَرَحٍ.

When the stars were made, all my angels praised me with a loud voice.

٨ 8 مَنْ حَجَزَ الْبَحْرَ بِبَوَّابَاتٍ، عِنْدَمَا انْدَفَقَ مِنْ رَحِمِ الأَرْضِ،

And I shut up the sea with gates, when it rushed out, coming forth out its mother's womb.

٩ 9 حِينَ جَعَلْتُ السُّحُبَ لِبَاساً لَهُ وَالظُّلْمَةَ قِمَاطَهُ،

And I made a cloud its clothing, and swathed it in mist.

١٠ 10 عِنْدَمَا عَيَّنْتُ لَهُ حُدُوداً، وَأَثْبَتُّ بَوَّابَاتِهِ وَمَغَالِيقَهُ فِي مَوَاضِعِهَا،

And I set bounds to it, surrounding it with bars and gates.

١١ 11 وَقُلْتُ لَهُ: إِلَى هُنَا تُخُومُكَ فَلاَ تَتَعَدَّاهَا، وَهُنَا يَتَوَقَّفُ عُتُوُّ أَمْوَاجِكَ؟

And I said to it, Hitherto shall you come, but you shall not go beyond, but your waves shall be confined within you.

١٢ 12 هَلْ أَمَرْتَ مَرَّةً الصُّبْحَ فِي أَيَّامِكَ، وَأَرَيْتَ الْفَجْرَ مَوْضِعَهُ،

Or did I order the morning light in your time; and [did] the morning star [then first] see his appointed place;

١٣ 13 لِيَقْبِضَ عَلَى أَكْنَافِ الأَرْضِ وَيَنْفُضَ الأَشْرَارَ مِنْهَا؟

to lay hold of the extremities of the earth, to cast out the ungodly out of it?

١٤ 14 تَتَشَكَّلُ كَطِينٍ تَحْتَ الْخَاتَمِ، وَتَبْدُو مَعَالِمُهَا كَمَعَالِمِ الرِّدَاءِ.

Or did you take clay of the ground, and form a living creature, and set it with the power of speech upon the earth?

١٥ 15 يَمْتَنِعُ النُّورُ عَنِ الأَشْرَارِ، وَتَتَحَطَّمُ ذِرَاعُهُمُ الْمُرْتَفِعَةُ.

And have you removed light from the ungodly, and crushed the arm of the proud?

١٦ 16 هَلْ غُصْتَ إِلَى يَنَابِيعِ الْبَحْرِ، أَمْ دَلَفْتَ إِلَى مَقَاصِيرِ اللُّجَجِ؟

Or have you gone to the source of the sea, and walked in the tracks of the deep?

١٧ 17 هَلِ اطَّلَعْتَ عَلَى أَبْوَابِ الْمَنِيَّةِ، أَمْ رَأَيْتَ بَوَّابَاتِ ظِلاَلِ الْمَوْتِ؟

And do the gates of death open to you for fear; and did the porters of hell quake when they saw you? (questioned)

١٨ 18 هَلْ أَحَطْتَ بِعَرْضِ الأَرْضِ؟ أَخْبِرْنِي إِنْ كُنْتَ بِكُلِّ هَذَا عَلِيماً.

And have you been instructed in the breadth of the [whole earth] under heaven? tell me now, what is the extent of it?

١٩ 19 أَيْنَ الطَّرِيقُ إِلَى مَقَرِّ النُّورِ، وَأَيْنَ مُسْتَقَرُّ الظُّلْمَةِ؟

And in what kind of a land does the light dwell? and of what kind is the place of darkness?

٢٠ 20 حَتَّى تَقُودَهَا إِلَى تُخُومِهَا وَتَعْرِفَ سُبُلَ مَسْكِنِهَا؟

If you could bring me to their [utmost] boundaries, and if also you know their paths;

٢١ 21 حَقّاً أَنْتَ تَعْرِفُهَا لأَنَّكَ آنَئِذٍ كُنْتَ قَدْ وُلِدْتَ وَعِشْتَ أَيَّاماً طَوِيلَةً!

I know then that you were born at that time, and the number of your years is great.

٢٢ 22 هَلْ دَخَلْتَ إِلَى مَخَازِنِ الثَّلْجِ، أَمْ رَأَيْتَ خَزَائِنَ الْبَرَدِ،

But have you gone to the treasures of snow? and have you seen the treasures of hail?

٢٣ 23 الَّتِي ادَّخَرْتُهَا لأَوْقَاتِ الضِّيقِ، لِيَوْمِ الْمَعْرَكَةِ وَالْحَرْبِ؟

And is there a store [of them], for you against the time of [your] enemies, for the day of wars and battle?

٢٤ 24 مَا هُوَ السَّبِيلُ إِلَى مَوْضِعِ انْتِشَارِ النُّورِ، أَوْ أَيْنَ تَتَوَزَّعُ الرِّيحُ الشَّرْقِيَّةُ عَلَى الأَرْضِ؟

And whence proceeds the frost? or [whence] is the south wind dispersed over the [whole world] under heaven?

٢٥ 25 مَنْ حَفَرَ قَنَوَاتٍ لِسُيُولِ الْمَطَرِ، وَمَمَرّاً لِلصَّوَاعِقِ،

And who prepared a course for the violent rain, and a way for the thunders;

٢٦ 26 لِيُمْطِرَ عَلَى أَرْضٍ مُقْفِرَةٍ لاَ إِنْسَانَ فِيهَا،

to rain upon the land where [there is] no man, the wilderness, where there is not a man in it; so as to feed the untrodden and uninhabited [land],

٢٧ 27 لِيُرْوِيَ الأَرْضَ الْخَرِبَةَ، وَلِيَسْتَنْبِتَ الأَرْضَ عُشْباً؟

and cause it to send forth a crop of green herbs?

٢٨ 28 هَلْ لِلْمَطَرِ أَبٌ؟ وَمَنْ أَنْجَبَ قَطَرَاتِ النَّدَى؟

Who is the rain's father? and who has generated the drops of dew?

٢٩ 29 وَمِنْ أَيِّ أَحْشَاءٍ خَرَجَ الْجَمَدُ، وَمَنْ وَلَدَ صَقِيعَ السَّمَاءِ؟

And out of whose womb comes the ice? and who has produced the frost in the sky,

٣٠ 30 تَتَجَلَّدُ الْمِيَاهُ كَحِجَارَةٍ وَيَتَجَمَّدُ وَجْهُ الْغَمْرِ.

which descends like flowing water? who has terrified the face of the ungodly?

٣١ 31 هَلْ تَرْبِطُ سَلاَسِلَ الثُّرَيَّا، أَمْ تَفُكُّ عُقَدَ الْجَوْزَاءِ؟

And do you understand the band of Pleias, and have you opened the barrier of Orion?

٣٢ 32 هَلْ تَهْدِي كَوَاكِبَ الْمَنَازِلِ فِي فُصُولِهَا، أَمْ تَهْدِي النَّعْشَ مَعَ بِنَاتِهِ؟

Or will you reveal Mazuroth in his season, and the evening star with his rays? Will you guide them?

٣٣ 33 هَلْ تَعْرِفُ أَحْكَامَ السَّمَاوَاتِ، أَمْ أَسَّسْتَ سُلْطَتَهَا عَلَى الأَرْضِ؟

And know you the changes of heaven, or the events which take place together under heaven?

٣٤ 34 هَلْ تَرْفَعُ صَوْتَكَ آمِراً الْغَمَامَ فَيَغْمُرَكَ فَيْضُ الْمِيَاهِ؟

And will you call a cloud with your voice, and will it obey you with a violent shower of much rain?

٣٥ 35 هَلْ فِي وُسْعِكَ أَنْ تُطْلِقَ الْبُرُوقَ فَتَمْضِيَ وَتَقُولَ لَكَ: هَا نَحْنُ طَوْعَ أَمْرِكَ؟

And will you send lightnings, and they shall go? and shall they say to you, What is [your pleasure]?

٣٦ 36 مَنْ أَضْفَى عَلَى الْغُيُومِ حِكْمَةً وَأَنْعَمَ عَلَى الضَّبَابِ بِالْفَهْمِ؟

And who has given to women skill in weaving, or knowledge of embroidery?

٣٧ 37 مَنْ لَهُ الْحِكْمَةُ لِيُحْصِيَ النُّجُومَ، وَمَنْ يَصُبُّ الْمَاءَ مِنْ مَيَازِيبِ السَّمَاءِ،

And who is he that numbers the clouds in wisdom, and has bowed the heaven [down] to the earth?

٣٨ 38 حِينَ يَتَلَبَّدُ التُّرَابُ وَتَتَمَاسَكُ كُتَلُ الطِّينِ؟

For it is spread out as dusty earth, and I have cemented it as one hewn stone to another.

٣٩ 39 هَلْ تَصْطَادُ الْفَرِيسَةَ لِلَّبُؤَةِ، أَمْ تُشْبِعُ جُوعَ الأَشْبَالِ،

And will you hunt a prey for the lions? and satisfy the desires of the serpents?

٤٠ 40 حِينَ تَتَرَبَّصُ فِي الْعَرَائِنِ وَتَكْمُنُ فِي أَوْجَارِهَا؟

For they fear in their lairs, and lying in wait couch in the woods.

٤١ 41 مَنْ يُزَوِّدُ الْغُرَابَ بِصَيْدِهِ إِذْ تَنْعَبُ فِرَاخُهُ مُسْتَغِيثَةً بِاللهِ، وَتَهِيمُ لاِفْتِقَارِهَا إِلَى الْقُوتِ؟

And who has prepared food for the raven? for its young ones wander and cry to the Lord, in search of food.
