أيُّوب 14

١ 1 الإِنْسَانُ مَوْلُودُ الْمَرْأَةِ. قَصِيرُ الْعُمْرِ وَمُفْعَمٌ بِالشَّقَاءِ،

Man [that is] born of a woman [is] of few days, and full of trouble.

٢ 2 يَتَفَتَّحُ كَالزَّهْرِ ثُمَّ يَنْتَثِرُ، وَيَتَوَارَى كَالشَّبَحِ فَلاَ يَبْقَى لَهُ أَثَرٌ.

He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

٣ 3 أَعَلَى مِثْلِ هَذَا فَتَحْتَ عَيْنَيْكَ وَأَحْضَرْتَنِي لأَتَحَاجَّ مَعَكَ؟

And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?

٤ 4 مَنْ يَسْتَوْلِدُ الطَّاهِرَ مِنَ النَّجِسِ؟ لاَ أَحَدٌ!

Who can bring a clean [thing] out of an unclean? not one.

٥ 5 فَإِنْ كَانَتْ أَيَّامُهُ مَحْدُودَةً، وَعَدَدُ أَشْهُرِهِ مَكْتُوباً لَدَيْكَ، وَعَيَّنْتَ أَجَلَهُ فَلاَ يَتَجَاوَزُهُ،

Seeing his days [are] determined, the number of his months [are] with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;

٦ 6 فَأَشِحْ بِوَجْهِكَ عَنْهُ وَدَعْهُ يَسْتَرِيحُ مُسْتَمْتِعاً، رَيْثَمَا يَنْتَهِي يَوْمُهُ، كَالأَجِيرِ.

Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.

٧ 7 لأَنَّ لِلشَّجَرَةِ أَمَلاً، إِذَا قُطِعَتْ أَنْ تُفْرِخَ مِنْ جَدِيدٍ وَلاَ تَفْنَى بَرَاعِمُهَا.

For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

٨ 8 حَتَّى لَوْ شَاخَتْ أُصُولُهَا فِي الأَرْضِ وَمَاتَ جِذْعُهَا فِي التُّرَابِ،

Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

٩ 9 فَإِنَّهَا حَالَما تَسْتَرْوِحُ الْمَاءَ تُفْرِخُ، وَتُنْبِتُ فُرُوعاً كَالْغِرْسِ.

[Yet] through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

١٠ 10 أَمَّا الإِنْسَانُ فَإِنَّهُ يَمُوتُ وَيَبْلَى، يَلْفِظُ آخِرَ أَنْفَاسِهِ، فَأَيْنَ هُوَ؟

But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where [is] he?

١١ 11 كَمَا تَنْفَدُ الْمِيَاهُ مِنَ الْبُحَيْرَةِ، وَيَجِفُّ النَّهْرُ،

[As] the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:

١٢ 12 هَكَذا يَرْقُدُ الإِنْسَانُ وَلاَ يَقُومُ، وَلاَ يَسْتَيْقِظُ مِنْ نَوْمِهِ إِلَى أنْ تَزُولَ السَّمَوَاتُ.

So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens [be] no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

١٣ 13 لَيْتَكَ تُوَارِينِي فِي عَالَمِ الأَمْوَاتِ، وَتُخْفِينِي إِلَى أَنْ يَعْبُرَ عَنِّي غَضَبُكَ، وَتُحَدِّدُ لِي أَجَلاً فَتَذْكُرَنِي. (Sheol h7585)

O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! (Sheol h7585)

١٤ 14 إِنْ مَاتَ رَجُلٌ أَفَيَحْيَا؟ إِذَنْ لَصَبِرْتُ كُلَّ أَيَّامِ مُكَابَدَتِي، رَيْثَمَا يَأْتِي زَمَنُ إِعْفَائِي.

If a man die, shall he live [again]? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

١٥ 15 أَنْتَ تَدْعُو وَأَنَا أُجِيبُكَ. أَنْتَ تَتُوقُ إِلَى عَمَلِ يَدَيْكَ،

Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.

١٦ 16 حِينَئِذٍ تُحْصِي خَطَوَاتِي حَقّاً، وَلَكِنَّكَ لاَ تُرَاقِبُ خَطِيئَتِي،

For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?

١٧ 17 فَتَخْتِمُ مَعْصِيَتِي فِي صُرَّةٍ، وَتَسْتُرُ ذَنْبِي.

My transgression [is] sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.

١٨ 18 وَكَمَا يَتَفَتَّتُ الْجَبَلُ السَّاقِطُ، وَيَتَزَحْزَحُ الصَّخْرُ مِنْ مَوْضِعِهِ،

And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.

١٩ 19 وَكَمَا تُبْلِي الْمِيَاهُ الْحِجَارَةَ، وَتَجْرُفُ سُيُولُهَا تُرَابَ الأَرْضِ، هَكَذَا تُبِيدُ أَنْتَ رَجَاءَ الإِنْسَانِ.

The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow [out] of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.

٢٠ 20 تَقْهَرُهُ دَفْعَةً وَاحِدَةً فَيَتَلاَشَى، وَتُغَيِّرُ مِنْ مَلاَمِحِهِ وَتَطْرُدُهُ.

Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.

٢١ 21 يُكْرَمُ أَبْنَاؤُهُ وَهُوَ لاَ يَعْلَمُ، أَوْ يُذَلُّونَ وَلاَ يُدْرِكُ ذَلِكَ.

His sons come to honour, and he knoweth [it] not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth [it] not of them.

٢٢ 22 لاَ يَشْعُرُ بِغَيْرِ آلاَمِ بَدَنِهِ، وَلاَ يَنُوحُ إِلاَّ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ».

But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
