تكوين 40

١ 1 وَاتَّفَقَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ أَنَّ سَاقِيَ مَلِكِ مِصْرَ وَالْخَبَّازَ أَذْنَبَا إِلَى سَيِّدِهِمَا مَلِكِ مِصْرَ،

And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt.

٢ 2 فَسَخَطَ فِرْعَوْنُ عَلَى خَصِيَّيْهِ: رَئِيسِ السُّقَاةِ وَرَئِيسِ الْخَبَّازِينَ،

And Pharaoh was angry against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.

٣ 3 وَزَجَّهُمَا فِي مُعْتَقَلِ بَيْتِ رَئِيسِ الْحَرَسِ فِي السِّجْنِ، فِي الْمَكَانِ الَّذِي كَانَ يُوسُفُ مَحْبُوساً فِيهِ.

And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.

٤ 4 فَوَلَّى رَئِيسُ الْحَرَسِ يُوسُفَ أَمْرَهُمَا، فَقَامَ عَلَى خِدْمَتِهِمَا، فَمَكَثَا فِي الْمُعْتَقَلِ أَيَّاماً.

And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them: and they continued a season in ward.

٥ 5 وَحَلُمَ كُلٌّ مِنْ سَاقِي مَلِكِ مِصْرَ وَخَبَّازِهِ الْمُعْتَقَلَيْنِ فِي السِّجْنِ حُلْماً فِي لَيْلَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ. وَكَانَ لِحُلْمِ كُلٍّ مِنْهُمَا مَعْنَاهُ الْخَاصُّ بِصَاحِبِهِ.

And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.

٦ 6 فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِمَا يُوسُفُ فِي الصَّبَاحِ فَوَجَدَهُمَا مُكْتَئِبَيْنِ.

And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad.

٧ 7 فَسَأَلَهُمَا: «لِمَاذَا وَجْهَاكُمَا مَكْمَدَّانِ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ؟»

And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look all of you so sadly to day?

٨ 8 فَأَجَابَاهُ: «حَلُمَ كُلٌّ مِنَّا حُلْماً وَلَيْسَ مَنْ يُفَسِّرُهُ». فَقَالَ يُوسُفُ: «أَلَيْسَتْ تَفَاسِيرُ الأَحْلاَمِ لِلهِ؟ حَدِّثَانِي بِهِمَا».

And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.

٩ 9 فَسَرَدَ رَئِيسُ السُّقَاةِ حُلْمَهُ عَلَى يُوسُفَ. قَالَ: «رَأَيْتُ فِي حُلْمِي وَإِذَا كَرْمَةٌ أَمَامِي،

And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;

١٠ 10 فِيهَا ثَلاَثَةُ أَغْصَانٍ أَفْرَخَتْ ثُمَّ أَزْهَرَتْ، وَمَا لَبِثَتْ عَنَاقِيدُهَا أَنْ أَثْمَرَتْ عِنَباً نَاضِجاً.

And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:

١١ 11 وَكَانَتْ كَأْسُ فِرْعَوْنَ فِي يَدِي، فَتَنَاوَلْتُ الْعِنَبَ وَعَصَرْتُهُ فِي كَأْسِ فِرْعَوْنَ وَوَضَعْتُ الْكَأْسَ فِي يَدِهِ».

And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.

١٢ 12 فَقَالَ لَهُ يُوسُفُ: «إِلَيْكَ تَفْسِيرَهُ: الثَّلاَثَةُ أَغْصَانٍ هِيَ ثَلاَثَةُ أَيَّامٍ.

And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:

١٣ 13 بَعْدَ ثَلاَثَةِ أَيَّامٍ يَرْضَى عَنْكَ فِرْعَوْنُ، وَيَرُدُّكَ إِلَى مَنْزِلَتِكَ حَيْثُ تُنَاوِلُ فِرْعَوْنَ كَأْسَهُ، تَمَاماً كَمَا كُنْتَ مُعْتَاداً أَنْ تَفْعَلَ عِنْدَمَا كُنْتَ سَاقِيَهُ.

Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up your head, and restore you unto your place: and you shall deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when you were his butler.

١٤ 14 إِنَّمَا إِذَا أَصَابَكَ خَيْرٌ فَاذْكُرْنِي وَأَحْسِنْ إِلَيَّ. اذْكُرْنِي لَدَى فِرْعَوْنَ وَأَخْرِجْنِي مِنْ هَذَا السِّجْنِ،

But think on me when it shall be well with you, and show kindness, I pray you, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:

١٥ 15 لأَنَّنِي حُمِلْتُ عَنْوَةً مِنْ أَرْضِ الْعِبْرَانِيِّينَ، وَهُنَا أَيْضاً لَمْ أَجْنِ شَيْئاً لِيَزُجُّوا بِي فِي هَذَا السِّجْنِ».

For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.

١٦ 16 وَعِنْدَمَا رَأَى رَئِيسُ الْخَبَّازِينَ أَنَّ يُوسُفَ أَحْسَنَ التَّفْسِيرَ، قَالَ لَهُ: «رَأَيْتُ أَنَا أَيْضاً حُلْماً، وَإِذَا بِثَلاَثَةِ سِلاَلٍ بَيْضَاءَ عَلَى رَأْسِي.

When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head:

١٧ 17 وَكَانَ السَّلُّ الأَعْلَى مَلِيئاً مِنْ طَعَامِ فِرْعَوْنَ مِمَّا يُعِدُّهُ الْخَبَّازُ، إِلاَّ أَنَّ الطُّيُورَ كَانَتْ تَلْتَهِمُهُ مِنَ السَّلِّ الَّذِي عَلَى رَأْسِي».

And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of baked food for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.

١٨ 18 فَقَالَ يُوسُفُ: «إِلَيْكَ تَفْسِيرَهُ: الثَّلاَثَةُ السِّلاَلُ هِيَ ثَلاَثَةُ أَيَّامٍ

And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days:

١٩ 19 بَعْدَ ثَلاَثَةِ أَيَّامٍ يَقْطَعُ فِرْعَوْنُ رَأْسَكَ وَيُعَلِّقُكَ عَلَى خَشَبَةٍ فَتَأْكُلُ الطُّيُورُ لَحْمَكَ».

Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up your head from off you, and shall hang you on a tree; and the birds shall eat your flesh from off you.

٢٠ 20 وَكَانَ الْيَوْمُ الثَّالِثُ هُوَ يَوْمُ عِيدِ مِيلاَدِ فِرْعَوْنَ، فَأَقَامَ مَأْدُبَةً لِجَمِيعِ رِجَالِهِ، وَأَحْضَرَ مِنَ السِّجْنِ رَئِيسَ السُّقَاةِ وَرَئِيسَ الْخَبَّازِينَ أَمَامَهُمْ.

And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.

٢١ 21 وَرَدَّ رَئِيسَ السُّقَاةِ إِلَى عَمَلِهِ، فَصَارَ يُقَدِّمُ الْكَأْسَ لِيَدِ فِرْعَوْنَ.

And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand:

٢٢ 22 أَمَّا رَئِيسُ الْخَبَّازِينَ فَقَدْ عَلَّقَهُ (عَلَى خَشَبَةٍ) مِثْلَمَا فَسَّرَ لَهُمَا يُوسُفُ حُلْمَيْهِمَا.

But he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.

٢٣ 23 وَلَكِنَّ رَئِيسَ السُّقَاةِ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ يُوسُفَ بَلْ نَسِيَهُ.

Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgotten about him.
