خرُوج 5

١ 1 وَبَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ذَهَبَ مُوسَى وَهَرُونُ وَقَالا لِفِرْعَوْنَ: «هَذَا مَا يُعْلِنُهُ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُ إِسْرَائِيلَ: أَطْلِقْ شَعْبِي لِيَحْتَفِلَ لِي فِي الْبَرِّيَّةِ».

And after that Moses and Aaron went in, and said unto Pharaoh, Thus hath said the Everlasting One, the God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.

٢ 2 فَقَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ: «مَنْ هُوَ الرَّبُّ حَتَّى أُطِيعَ أَمْرَهُ وَأُطْلِقَ إِسْرَائِيلَ؟ أَنَا لَا أَعْرِفُ الرَّبَّ وَلَنْ أُطْلِقَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ».

And Pharaoh said, Who is the Everlasting, whose voice I am to obey, to let Israel go? I know not the Everlasting, nor will I let Israel go.

٣ 3 ثُمَّ قَالا: «إِنَّ إِلَهَ الْعِبْرَانِيِّينَ قَدِ الْتَقَانَا، فَدَعْنَا نَذْهَبُ مَسِيرَةَ ثَلاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ فِي الصَّحْرَاءِ لِنُقَدِّمَ ذَبَائِحَ لِلرَّبِّ إِلَهِنَا لِئَلّا يُعَاقِبَنَا بِوَبَأٍ أَوْ سَيْفٍ».

And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, a three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the Lord our God; lest he fall upon us with the pestilence, or with the sword.

٤ 4 فَقَالَ لَهُمَا مَلِكُ مِصْرَ: «يَا مُوسَى وَهَرُونُ، لِمَاذَا تُعَطِّلانِ الشَّعْبَ عَنْ أَعْمَالِهِ؟ ارْجِعُوا إِلَى أَعْمَالِكُمُ الشَّاقَةِ».

And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, hinder the people from their works? get you unto your own affairs.

٥ 5 ثُمَّ قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ: «هُوَذَا شَعْبُ الأَرْضِ قَدْ كَثُرَ الآنَ، وَأَنْتُمَا تُرِيدَانِ أَنْ تُرِيحَاهُمْ مِنَ الأَعْمَالِ الشَّاقَةِ».

And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye disturb them in the pursuit of their labors.

٦ 6 فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ أَمَرَ فِرْعَوْنُ الْقَائِمِينَ عَلَى تَسْخِيرِ الشَّعْبِ وَرُؤَسَاءَ الْعُمَّالِ قَائِلاً:

And Pharaoh commanded on the same day the taskmasters of the people, and its officers, saying,

٧ 7 «كُفُّوا عَنْ إِعْطَاءِ الشَّعْبِ تِبْناً لِصُنْعِ اللِّبْنِ كَمَا كُنْتُمْ تَفْعَلُونَ سَابِقاً، وَلْيَذْهَبُوا هُمْ وَيَجْمَعُوا تِبْناً لأَنْفُسِهِمْ.

Ye shall no more give the people straw to make the bricks, as yesterday and the day before; they themselves shall go and gather themselves straw.

٨ 8 وَطَالِبُوهُمْ بِإِنْتَاجِ نَفْسِ كَمِّيَّةِ اللِّبْنِ السَّابِقَةِ. لَا تُنْقِصُوهَا فَإِنَّهُمْ كُسَالَى، لِذَلِكَ يَصْرُخُونَ قَائِلِينَ: دَعْنَا نَذْهَبُ وَنَذْبَحُ لإِلَهِنَا.

And the number of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall impose upon them, ye shall not diminish aught thereof; for they are idle: therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

٩ 9 ثَقِّلُوا الْعَمَلَ عَلَى كَوَاهِلِ الْقَوْمِ حَتَّى يَشْتَغِلُوا بِهِ وَلا يَلْتَفِتُوا إِلَى الأَقْوَالِ الْكَاذِبَةِ».

Let the work be made to lie heavily upon the men, that they may have enough to do therein; and that they may not pay attention to false words.

١٠ 10 فَخَرَجَ مُسَخِّرُو الشَّعْبِ وَرُؤَسَاءُ الْعُمَّالِ وَخَاطَبُوا الشَّعْبَ قَائِلِينَ: «هَكَذَا يَقُولُ فِرْعَوْنُ: لَنْ أُعْطِيَكُمْ تِبْناً.

And the taskmasters of the people and its officers went out, and they said to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you any straw.

١١ 11 اذْهَبُوا أَنْتُمْ وَاجْمَعُوا لأَنْفُسِكُمْ تِبْناً حَيْثُ تَجِدُونَهُ عَلَى أَلّا يَنْقُصَ إِنْتَاجُكُمْ».

Go ye, get yourselves straw from wherever ye can find it; yet not the least shall be taken off from your work.

١٢ 12 فَتَفَرَّقَ الشَّعْبُ فِي كُلِّ أَرْضِ مِصْرَ لِيَجْمَعُوا قَشّاً بَدَلاً مِنَ التِّبْنِ.

And the people scattered themselves abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.

١٣ 13 وَكَانَ الْمُسَخِّرُونَ يَلِحُّونَ عَلَيْهِمْ قَائِلِينَ: «أَوْفُوا أَعْمَالَكُمْ، إِنْتَاجَ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ بِيَوْمِهِ كَمَا كَانَ الْحَالُ حِينَ تَوَافَرَ التِّبْنُ».

And the taskmasters were urgent, saying, Fulfill your works, every day its due portion, just as when there was straw.

١٤ 14 وَجَلَدَ مُسَخِّرُو فِرْعَوْنَ رْؤَسَاءَ الْعُمَّالِ الَّذِينَ أَقَامُوهُمْ عَلَى بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ قَائِلِينَ لَهُمْ: «لِمَاذَا لَمْ تُوْفُوا قِسْطَكُمْ مِنْ إِنْتَاجِ اللِّبْنِ أَمْسِ وَالْيَوْمَ كَمَا كُنْتُمْ تَفْعَلُونَ سَابِقاً؟»

And the officers of the children of Israel, whom the taskmasters of Pharaoh had set over them, were beaten, as these said, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick as heretofore, both yesterday and today?

١٥ 15 فَأَقْبَلَ رُؤَسَاءُ عُمَّالِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَتَوَسَّلُوا إِلَى فِرْعَوْنَ قَائِلِينَ: «لِمَاذَا تَفْعَلُ هَكَذَا بِعَبِيدِكَ؟

And the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?

١٦ 16 إِنَّ عَبِيدَكَ لَا يَحْصُلُونَ عَلَى التِّبْنِ، وَمُطَالَبُونَ بِكَمِّيَّةِ اللِّبْنِ نَفْسِهَا، وَيُجْلَدُ عَبِيْدُكَ أَيْضاً. وَلَكِنَّ الذَّنْبَ هُوَ ذَنْبُ شَعْبِكَ».

Straw is not given unto thy servants, and, Make bricks, say they to us: and, behold, thy servants are beaten, and thy people are treated as sinners.

١٧ 17 غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: «أَنْتُمْ كُسَالَى، لِذَلِكَ تَقُولُونَ: دَعْنَا نَذْهَبُ لِنَذْبَحَ لِلرَّبِّ.

But he said, Idle are ye, idle; therefore say ye, Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.

١٨ 18 هَيَّا اذْهَبُوا وَاعْمَلُوا، فَالتِّبْنُ لَنْ يُعْطَى لَكُمْ، وَعَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تُنْتِجُوا كَامِلَ كَمِّيَّةِ اللِّبْنِ نَفْسِهَا».

And now go, work, and straw shall not be given you; yet the required number of bricks shall ye deliver.

١٩ 19 فَوَجَدَ رُؤَسَاءُ عُمَّالِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَنْفُسَهُمْ فِي وَرْطَةٍ سَيِّئَةٍ بَعْدَ أَنْ قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَنْتِجُوا مِنْ لِبْنِكُمْ فَرِيضَةَ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ بِيَوْمِهِ. لَا تُنْقِصُوا مِنْهَا شَيْئاً

And the officers of the children of Israel saw themselves in the evil necessity to say, Ye shall not diminish aught from your bricks, every day of its task.

٢٠ 20 وَصَادَفُوا مُوسَى وَهَرُونَ وَهُمَا وَاقِفَانِ فِي انْتِظَارِهِمْ عِنْدَ خُروجِهِمْ مِنْ لَدُنْ فِرْعَوْنَ

And they met Moses and Aaron, standing in their way, as they came forth from Pharaoh.

٢١ 21 فَقَالُوا لَهُمَا: «لِيَنْظُرْ إِلَيْكُمَا الرَّبُّ وَيَقْضِ. لَقَدْ كَرَّهْتُمَا فِينَا فِرْعَوْنَ وَحَاشِيَتَهُ، وَأَعْطَيْتُمَاهُمْ سَيْفاً فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ لِيَقْتُلُونَا».

And they said unto them, May the Lord look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savor to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

٢٢ 22 فَرَجَعَ مُوسَى إِلَى الرَّبِّ وَقَالَ: «لِمَاذَا أَسَأْتَ إِلَى شَعْبِكَ يَا رَبُّ؟ لِمَاذَا أَرْسَلْتَنِي؟

And Moses returned unto the Lord, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou let so much evil come upon this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?

٢٣ 23 فَمُنْذُ أَنْ جِئْتُ لأُخَاطِبَ فِرْعَوْنَ بِاسْمِكَ، أَسَاءَ إِلَى الشَّعْبِ، وَأَنْتَ لَمْ تُخَلِّصْ شَعْبَكَ عَلَى الإِطْلاقِ».

For, since I came unto Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done more evil to this people; but thou hast in nowise delivered thy people.
