١ 1 وَعِنْدَمَا شَاخَ دَاوُدُ نَصَّبَ ابْنَهُ سُلَيْمَانَ مَلِكاً عَلَى إِسْرَائِيلَ،

Now, David, was old, and satisfied with days, —so he made Solomon his son king, over Israel;

٢ 2 وَاسْتَدْعَى إِلَيْهِ كُلَّ قَادَةِ إِسْرَائِيلَ وَالْكَهَنَةَ وَاللّاوِيِّينَ.

and gathered together all the rulers of Israel, with the priests, and the Levites.

٣ 3 وَكَانَ عَدَدُ اللّاوِيِّينَ الْمُحْصَيْنَ مِنِ ابْنِ ثَلاثِينَ فَمَا فَوْقُ ثَمَانِيَةً وَثَلاثِينَ أَلْفاً،

Now the Levites were numbered, from thirty years old and upwards, —and their number by their polls, of mature men, was thirty-eight thousand.

٤ 4 أَشْرَفَ أَرْبَعَةٌ وَعِشْرُونَ أَلْفاً مِنْهُمْ عَلَى الْعَمَلِ فِي بَيْتِ الرَّبِّ، وَسِتَّةُ آلافٍ كَانُوا نُظَّاراً وَقُضَاةً،

Of these—to preside over the work of the house of Yahweh, were twenty-four thousand, —and officers and judges, six thousand;

٥ 5 وَأَرْبَعَةُ آلافٍ قَامُوا بِحِرَاسَةِ الْبَيْتِ، وَأَرْبَعَةُ آلافٍ لِتَسْبِيحِ الرَّبِّ وَالْعَزْفِ عَلَى الآلاتِ الْمُوسِيقِيَّةِ الْمُرَافِقَةِ لِلتَّسْبِيحِ.

and four thousand, were doorkeepers, —and, four thousand, were offerers of praise unto Yahweh, with instruments, which [said David] I made for offering praise.

٦ 6 وَقَسَمَهُمْ دَاوُدُ إِلَى ثَلاثِ فِرَقٍ، بِحَسَبِ أَسْمَاءِ أَبْنَاءِ لاوِي: فِرْقَةُ الْجَرْشُونِيِّينَ، وَفِرْقَةُ الْقَهَاتِيِّينَ، وَفِرْقَةُ الْمَرَارِيِّينَ.

And David divided them into courses, —pertaining to the sons of Levi, to Gershon, Kohath and Merari.

٧ 7 وَمِنَ الْجَرْشُونِيِّينَ: لَعْدَانُ وَشَمْعِي.

Of the Gershonites, Ladan and Shimei.

٨ 8 وَأَبْنَاءُ لَعْدَانَ ثَلاثَةٌ: يَحِيئِيلُ الْبِكْرُ، ثُمَّ زِيثَامُ وَيُوئِيلُ.

The sons of Ladan, the chief Jehiel, and Zetham and Joel, three.

٩ 9 وَأَبْنَاءُ شَمْعِي ثَلاثَةٌ: شَلُومِيثُ وَحَزِيئِيلُ وَهَارَانُ. وَجَمِيعُ هَؤُلاءِ كَانُوا رُؤُوسَ آبَاءِ عَائِلاتِ لَعْدَانَ.

The sons of Shimei, Shelomoth and Haziel and Haran, three, —these, were the ancestral chiefs of Ladan.

١٠ 10 وَكَانَ لِشَمْعِي أَرْبَعَةُ أَبْنَاءٍ آخَرَينَ هُمْ: يَحَثُ وَزِينَا وَيَعُوشُ وَبَرِيعَةُ.

And, the sons of Shimei, Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah, —these, were the sons of Shimei, four.

١١ 11 وَكَانَ يَحَثُ كَبِيرَهُمْ وَزِينَا الثَّانِي، أَمَّا يَعُوشُ وَبَرِيعَةُ فَلَمْ يُنْجِبَا أَبْنَاءً كَثِيرِينَ، فَاعْتُبِرُوا عِنْدَ إِجْرَاءِ الإِحْصَاءِ عَائِلَةً وَاحِدَةً.

And Jahath was chief, and Zizah the second, —but, Jeush and Beriah, had not many sons, so they became an ancestral house, by one reckoning.

١٢ 12 أَمَّا أَبْناءُ قَهَاتَ فَهُمْ أَرْبَعَةٌ: عَمْرَامُ وَيِصْهَارُ وَحَبْرُونُ وَعُزِّيئِيلُ.

The sons of Kohath, Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

١٣ 13 وَأَبْنَاءُ عَمْرَامَ: هرُونُ وَمُوسَى. وَأُفْرِزَ هرُونُ وَذُرِّيَّتُهُ لِيَقُومُوا عَلَى خِدْمَةِ قُدْسِ الأَقْدَاسِ وَلِيُوْقِدُوا أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ، وَخِدْمَةِ الرَّبِّ وَمُبَارَكَةِ الشَّعْبِ بِاسْمِهِ، إِلَى الأَبَدِ.

The sons of Amram, Aaron and Moses, —and Aaron was separated, to hallow the holy of holies, he and his sons, unto times age-abiding, to make a perfume before Yahweh, to be in attendance upon him, and to bless in his name, unto times age-abiding;

١٤ 14 أَمَّا أَبْنَاءُ مُوسَى رَجُلِ اللهِ فَأُحْصُوا مَعَ سِبْطِ لاوِي.

and, as for Moses, the man of God, his sons, were called unto the tribe of Levi.

١٥ 15 وَكَانَ لِمُوسَى ابْنَانِ هُمَا: جَرْشُومُ وَأَلِيعَزَرُ.

The sons of Moses, were Gershom, and Eliezer.

١٦ 16 وَكَبِيرُ أَبْنَاءِ جَرْشُومَ هُوَ شَبُوئِيلُ.

the sons of Gershom, were Shebuel the chief;

١٧ 17 أَمَّا أَلِيعَزَرُ فَلَمْ يُنْجِبْ سِوَى ابْنٍ وَاحِدٍ هُوَ رَحَبْيَا، وَقَدْ وُلِدَ لِرَحَبْيَا أَبْنَاءٌ كَثِيرُونَ جِدّاً.

and the sons of Eliezer were Rehabiah the chief, —and Eliezer had no other sons, but, the sons of Rehabiah, were very many.

١٨ 18 وَكَانَ شَلُومِيثُ كَبِيرَ أَبْنَاءِ يِصْهَارَ.

The sons of Izhar, Shelomith the chief.

١٩ 19 وَأَبْنَاءُ حَبْرُونَ: يَرِيَّا الْبِكْرُ، وَأَمَرْيَا الثَّانِي، وَيَحْزِيئِيلُ الثَّالِثُ، وَيَقْمَعَامُ الرَّابِعُ.

The sons of Hebron, Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jehaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

٢٠ 20 وَابْنَا عُزِّيئِيلَ: مِيخَا الْبِكْرُ وَيَشِّيَّا الثَّانِي.

The sons of Uzziel, Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.

٢١ 21 وَابْنَا مَرَارِي: مَحْلِي وَمُوشِي. وَأَنْجَبَ مَحْلِي أَلِعَازَارَ وَقَيْسَ.

The sons of Merari, were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli, were Eleazar and Kish.

٢٢ 22 وَمَاتَ أَلِعَازَارُ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يُعْقِبَ أَبْنَاءً بَلْ بَنَاتٍ، فَتَزَوَّجَ أَبْنَاءَ عَمِّهِنَّ مِنْهُنَّ.

But Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only, —and so the sons of Kish their brethren took them.

٢٣ 23 وَأَبْنَاءُ مُوشِي ثَلاثَةٌ مَحْلِي وَعَادِرُ وَيَرِيمُوثُ.

The sons of Mushi, were Mahli and Eder and Jeremoth, three.

٢٤ 24 هَؤُلاءِ هُمْ أَبْنَاءُ لاوِي بِحَسَبِ انْتِمَائِهِمْ إِلَى بُيُوتِ آبَائِهِمْ، وَهُمْ رُؤُوسُ عَائِلاتِهِمْ، كَمَا تَمَّ تَسْجِيلُهُمْ بِحَسَبِ أَسْمَائِهِمْ، وَأُحْصُوا مِنِ ابْنِ عِشْرِينَ فَمَا فَوْقُ لِيَقُومُوا بِالْعَمَلِ الْمُحَدَّدِ لَهُمْ فِي خِدْمَةِ الْهَيْكَلِ،

These, were the sons of Levi by their ancestral house, the ancestral chiefs of them who were counted in the number of their names, by their polls, doing the work, for the service of the house of Yahweh, —from twenty years old, and upwards.

٢٥ 25 لأَنَّ دَاوُدَ قَالَ: «لَقَدْ أَرَاحَ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُ إِسْرَائِيلَ شَعْبَهُ فَسَكَنَ فِي أُورُشَلِيمَ إِلَى الأَبَدِ،

For, said David, Yahweh the God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, —and hath taken up his habitation in Jerusalem, unto times age-abiding;

٢٦ 26 لِهَذَا لَنْ يَعُودَ اللّاوِيُّونَ يَنْتَقِلُونَ بِالْخَيْمَةِ وَآنِيَتِهَا مِنْ مَكَانٍ إِلَى آخَرَ».

moreover also, as for the Levites, they have no need to bear the habitation, nor any of its vessels in the laborious work thereof.

٢٧ 27 لأَنَّهُ تَمَّ إِحْصَاءُ اللّاوِيِّينَ مِنِ ابْنِ عِشْرِينَ سَنَةً فَمَا فَوْقُ بِمُوْجِبِ أَمْرِ دَاوُدَ الأَخِيرِ.

For, by the last words of David, the same, were the number of the sons of Levi, —from twenty years old, and upwards.

٢٨ 28 فَرَاحُوا، تَحْتَ إِشْرَافِ أَبْنَاءِ هرُونَ، يَقُومُونَ بِخِدْمَةِ بَيْتِ الرَّبِّ وَالاعْتِنَاءِ بِالدُّورِ وَالْحُجُرَاتِ، وَالْمُحَافَظَةِ عَلَى قُدْسِيَّةِ مُقَدَّسَاتِهِ وَالاهْتِمَامِ بِسَائِرِ مُتَطَلَّبَاتِ خِدْمَةِ الْهَيْكَلِ،

For, their duty, was—to be in attendance upon the sons of Aaron, in the laborious work of the house of Yahweh, over the courts, and over the chambers, and over the purifying of everything holy, —and doing the laborious work, of the house of God;

٢٩ 29 مِنْ تَحْضِيرِ خُبْزِ الْوُجُوهِ، وَدَقِيقِ التَّقْدِمَاتِ وَرِقَاقِ الْفَطِيرِ وَمَا يُخْبَزُ عَلَى الصَّاجِ، وَالدَّقِيقِ الْمَعْجُونِ بِالزَّيْتِ، وَمُرَاقَبَةِ الْمَقَايِيسِ وَالْمَوَازِينِ،

and for the bread set in array, and for the fine meal for the meal-offering, and for the unleavened cakes, even for that which is baked in a pan, for the moistened food, —even of every measure, and size;

٣٠ 30 فَضْلاً عَنِ الْقِيَامِ بِإِزْجَاءِ الْحَمْدِ لِلرَّبِّ وَتَسْبِيحِهِ بُكْرَةً وَعَشِيَّةً،

and to stand, morning by morning, to give thanks and offer praise unto Yahweh, —and, likewise, at even;

٣١ 31 وَالْمُسَاعَدَةِ فِي تَقْرِيبِ مُحْرَقَاتٍ لِلرَّبِّ فِي أَيَّامِ السَّبْتِ وَمَطَالِعِ الشُّهُورِ الْقَمَرِيَّةِ وَمَوَاسِمِ الأَعْيَادِ. وَكَانَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَنْ يَخْدِمُوا الرَّبَّ بِصُورَةٍ مُنْتَظِمَةٍ بِأَعْدَادٍ تَتَنَاسَبُ مَعَ الْخَدَمَاتِ الْمُعَيَّنَةِ لَهُمْ،

and for all the offering of ascending-sacrifices unto Yahweh, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the set feasts, —by number, according to the manner prescribed for them continually, before Yahweh; —

٣٢ 32 وَلِحِرَاسَةِ خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ وَالْقُدْسِ، وَتَحْتَ إِشْرَافِ أَبْنَاءِ ذُرِّيَّةِ هرُونَ أَقْرِبَائِهِمِ الْقَائِمِينَ بِخِدْمَةِ بَيْتِ الرَّبِّ.

and they shall keep the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron, their brethren, —in the laborious work of the house of Yahweh.
