اَلتَّثْنِيَة 6

١ 1 «وَهَذِهِ هِيَ ٱلْوَصَايَا وَٱلْفَرَائِضُ وَٱلْأَحْكَامُ ٱلَّتِي أَمَرَ ٱلرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ أَنْ أُعَلِّمَكُمْ لِتَعْمَلُوهَا فِي ٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلَّتِي أَنْتُمْ عَابِرُونَ إِلَيْهَا لِتَمْتَلِكُوهَا،

Now this is the mitzvot ·instructions·, the statutes, and the judgments, which Adonai your God enjoined to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it;

٢ 2 لِكَيْ تَتَّقِيَ ٱلرَّبَّ إِلَهَكَ وَتَحْفَظَ جَمِيعَ فَرَائِضِهِ وَوَصَايَاهُ ٱلَّتِي أَنَا أُوصِيكَ بِهَا، أَنْتَ وَٱبْنُكَ وَٱبْنُ ٱبْنِكَ كُلَّ أَيَّامِ حَيَاتِكَ، وَلِكَيْ تَطُولَ أَيَّامُكَ.

that you might fear Adonai your God, to keep all his statutes and his mitzvot ·instructions·, which I enjoin you; you, and your son, and your son’s son, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged.

٣ 3 فَٱسْمَعْ يَا إِسْرَائِيلُ وَٱحْتَرِزْ لِتَعْمَلَ، لِكَيْ يَكُونَ لَكَ خَيْرٌ وَتَكْثُرَ جِدًّا، كَمَا كَلَّمَكَ ٱلرَّبُّ إِلَهُ آبَائِكَ فِي أَرْضٍ تَفِيضُ لَبَنًا وَعَسَلًا.

Sh'ma ·Hear understand obey· therefore, Israel [God prevails], and observe to do it; that it may be well with you, and that you may increase mightily, as Adonai, the God of your fathers, has promised to you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

٤ 4 «اِسْمَعْ يَا إِسْرَائِيلُ: ٱلرَّبُّ إِلَهُنَا رَبٌّ وَاحِدٌ.

Sh'ma ·Hear obey·, Israel [God prevails]: Adonai is our God. Adonai is echad ·one, one unity·.

٥ 5 فَتُحِبُّ ٱلرَّبَّ إِلَهَكَ مِنْ كُلِّ قَلْبِكَ وَمِنْ كُلِّ نَفْسِكَ وَمِنْ كُلِّ قُوَّتِكَ.

You shall 'ahav ·affectionately love· Adonai your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.

٦ 6 وَلْتَكُنْ هَذِهِ ٱلْكَلِمَاتُ ٱلَّتِي أَنَا أُوصِيكَ بِهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَى قَلْبِكَ،

These words, which I enjoin you today, shall be on your heart;

٧ 7 وَقُصَّهَا عَلَى أَوْلَادِكَ، وَتَكَلَّمْ بِهَا حِينَ تَجْلِسُ فِي بَيْتِكَ، وَحِينَ تَمْشِي فِي ٱلطَّرِيقِ، وَحِينَ تَنَامُ وَحِينَ تَقُومُ،

and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

٨ 8 وَٱرْبُطْهَا عَلَامَةً عَلَى يَدِكَ، وَلْتَكُنْ عَصَائِبَ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْكَ،

You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes.

٩ 9 وَٱكْتُبْهَا عَلَى قَوَائِمِ أَبْوَابِ بَيْتِكَ وَعَلَى أَبْوَابِكَ.

You shall write them on the door posts of your house, and on your gates.

١٠ 10 «وَمَتَى أَتَى بِكَ ٱلرَّبُّ إِلَهُكَ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلَّتِي حَلَفَ لِآبَائِكَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ أَنْ يُعْطِيَكَ، إِلَى مُدُنٍ عَظِيمَةٍ جَيِّدَةٍ لَمْ تَبْنِهَا،

It shall be, when Adonai your God brings you into the land which he swore to your fathers, to Abraham [Father of a multitude], to Isaac [Laughter], and to Jacob [Supplanter], to give you, great and goodly cities, which you didn’t build,

١١ 11 وَبُيُوتٍ مَمْلُوءَةٍ كُلَّ خَيْرٍ لَمْ تَمْلَأْهَا، وَأَبَآرٍ مَحْفُورَةٍ لَمْ تَحْفِرْهَا، وَكُرُومٍ وَزَيْتُونٍ لَمْ تَغْرِسْهَا، وَأَكَلْتَ وَشَبِعْتَ،

and houses full of all good things, which you didn’t fill, and cisterns dug out, which you didn’t dig, vineyards and olive trees, which you didn’t plant, and you shall eat and be full;

١٢ 12 فَٱحْتَرِزْ لِئَلَّا تَنْسَى ٱلرَّبَّ ٱلَّذِي أَخْرَجَكَ مِنْ أَرْضِ مِصْرَ مِنْ بَيْتِ ٱلْعُبُودِيَّةِ.

then beware lest you forget Adonai, who brought you out of the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery], out of the house of bondage.

١٣ 13 ٱلرَّبَّ إِلَهَكَ تَتَّقِي، وَإِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُ، وَبِٱسْمِهِ تَحْلِفُ.

You shall fear Adonai your God; and you shall abad ·serve· him, and shall swear by his name.

١٤ 14 لَا تَسِيرُوا وَرَاءَ آلِهَةٍ أُخْرَى مِنْ آلِهَةِ ٱلْأُمَمِ ٱلَّتِي حَوْلَكُمْ،

You shall not go after other deities, of the deities of the peoples who are around you;

١٥ 15 لِأَنَّ ٱلرَّبَّ إِلَهَكُمْ إِلَهٌ غَيُورٌ فِي وَسَطِكُمْ، لِئَلَّا يَحْمَى غَضَبُ ٱلرَّبِّ إِلَهِكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ فَيُبِيدَكُمْ عَنْ وَجْهِ ٱلْأَرْضِ.

for Adonai your God among you is a jealous God; lest the anger of Adonai your God be kindled against you, and he destroy you from off the face of the earth.

١٦ 16 لَا تُجَرِّبُوا ٱلرَّبَّ إِلَهَكُمْ كَمَا جَرَّبْتُمُوهُ فِي مَسَّةَ.

You shall not tempt Adonai your God, as you tempted him in Massah [Testing].

١٧ 17 ٱحْفَظُوا وَصَايَا ٱلرَّبِّ إِلَهِكُمْ وَشَهَادَاتِهِ وَفَرَائِضِهِ ٱلَّتِي أَوْصَاكُمْ بِهَا.

You shall diligently keep the mitzvot ·instructions· of Adonai your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he has enjoined you.

١٨ 18 وَٱعْمَلِ ٱلصَّالِحَ وَٱلْحَسَنَ فِي عَيْنَيِ ٱلرَّبِّ، لِكَيْ يَكُونَ لَكَ خَيْرٌ، وَتَدْخُلَ وَتَمْتَلِكَ ٱلْأَرْضَ ٱلْجَيِّدَةَ ٱلَّتِي حَلَفَ ٱلرَّبُّ لِآبَائِكَ

You shall do that which is right and good in Adonai’s sight; that it may be well with you, and that you may go in and possess the good land which Adonai swore to your fathers,

١٩ 19 أَنْ يَنْفِيَ جَمِيعَ أَعْدَائِكَ مِنْ أَمَامِكَ. كَمَا تَكَلَّمَ ٱلرَّبُّ.

to thrust out all your enemies from before you, as Adonai has spoken.

٢٠ 20 «إِذَا سَأَلَكَ ٱبْنُكَ غَدًا قَائِلًا: مَا هِيَ ٱلشَّهَادَاتُ وَٱلْفَرَائِضُ وَٱلْأَحْكَامُ ٱلَّتِي أَوْصَاكُمْ بِهَا ٱلرَّبُّ إِلَهُنَا؟

Some day when your child asks you in time to come, saying, “What do the testimonies, the statutes, and the judgments, which Yahweh Eloheikhem [Yahweh our God] has enjoined you mean?”

٢١ 21 تَقُولُ لِٱبْنِكَ: كُنَّا عَبِيدًا لِفِرْعَوْنَ فِي مِصْرَ، فَأَخْرَجَنَا ٱلرَّبُّ مِنْ مِصْرَ بِيَدٍ شَدِيدَةٍ.

then you shall tell your child, “We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt [Abode of slavery]. Adonai brought us out of Egypt [Abode of slavery] with a mighty hand;

٢٢ 22 وَصَنَعَ ٱلرَّبُّ آيَاتٍ وَعَجَائِبَ عَظِيمَةً وَرَدِيئَةً بِمِصْرَ، بِفِرْعَوْنَ وَجَمِيعِ بَيْتِهِ أَمَامَ أَعْيُنِنَا

and Adonai showed great and awesome signs and wonders on Egypt [Abode of slavery], on Pharaoh, and on all his house, before our eyes;

٢٣ 23 وَأَخْرَجَنَا مِنْ هُنَاكَ لِكَيْ يَأْتِيَ بِنَا وَيُعْطِيَنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ ٱلَّتِي حَلَفَ لِآبَائِنَا.

and he brought us out from there, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore to our fathers.

٢٤ 24 فَأَمَرَنَا ٱلرَّبُّ أَنْ نَعْمَلَ جَمِيعَ هَذِهِ ٱلْفَرَائِضَ وَنَتَّقِيَ ٱلرَّبَّ إِلَهَنَا، لِيَكُونَ لَنَا خَيْرٌ كُلَّ ٱلْأَيَّامِ، وَيَسْتَبْقِيَنَا كَمَا فِي هَذَا ٱلْيَوْمِ.

Adonai enjoined us to do all these statutes, to fear Yahweh Eloheikhem [Yahweh our God], for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as we are today.

٢٥ 25 وَإِنَّهُ يَكُونُ لَنَا بِرٌّ إِذَا حَفِظْنَا جَمِيعَ هَذِهِ ٱلْوَصَايَا لِنَعْمَلَهَا أَمَامَ ٱلرَّبِّ إِلَهِنَا كَمَا أَوْصَانَا.

It shall be righteousness to us, if we observe to do all this mitzvot ·instructions· before Yahweh Eloheikhem [Yahweh our God], as he has enjoined us.”
