When the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way. The people who fled to the wilderness turned back on the pursuers.

| فَالْتَفَتَ رِجَالُ عَايَ وَرَاءَهُمْ وَإِذْ بِهِمْ يُشَاهِدُونَ دُخَانَ الْمَدِينَةِ يَتَصَاعَدُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ، فَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمْ مِنْ مَهْرَبٍ، فَانْقَلَبَ الْجَيْشُ الْهَارِبُ إِلَى الصَّحْرَاءِ عَلَى مُطَارِدِيهِ. |
পাছত অয়ৰ লোকসকলে পাছফাললৈ ঘূৰি চালে আৰু নগৰৰ ধোঁৱা আকাশলৈ উঠা দেখিলে৷ তেতিয়া তেওঁলোকে ইফালে সিফালে কোনোফালে পলাবলৈ একো উপায় নাপালে৷ কাৰণ মৰুপ্ৰান্তলৈ পলাই যোৱা সৈন্যসকলে তেওঁলোকক খেদি আক্ৰমণ কৰিলে৷

Setelah Yosua dan seluruh Israel yang berada di daerah belantara melihat bahwa pasukan mereka yang lain sudah berhasil merebut kota dan asap mengepul dari kota itu ke langit, mereka pun berbalik menyerang pasukan Ai. Ketika orang Ai menoleh ke belakang dan melihat asap dari kota, mereka tidak bisa lari ke mana-mana.

ಆಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಊರಿನ ಜನರು ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಹೊಗೆಯು ಆಕಾಶದೆತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಏರಿಹೋಗುವುದನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಯಾವ ಮಾರ್ಗದಿಂದಲೂ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾರದೆ ಇದ್ದರು. ಅರಣ್ಯದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಓಡಿಹೋಗಿದ್ದ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುವವರ ಕಡೆಗೆ ತಿರುಗಿದರು.
