David said on that day, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites, let him go up to the watercourse and strike those lame and blind, who are hated by David’s soul.” Therefore they say, “The blind and the lame cannot come into the house.”

| وَكَانَ دَاوُدُ قَدْ قَالَ لِرِجَالِهِ: «عَلَى مَنْ يُهَاجِمُ الْيَبُوسِيِّينَ أَنْ يَسْتَخْدِمَ الْقَنَاةَ لِلْوُصُولِ إِلَى هَؤُلاَءِ «الْعُمْيِ وَالْعُرْجِ» الَّذِينَ تُبْغِضُهُمْ نَفْسِي». لِذَلِكَ يُقَالُ: «لاَ يَدْخُلُ بَيْتَ الرَّبِّ أَعْمَى وَلاَ أَعْرَجُ». |

Or David avait dit en ce jour-là: Quiconque aura battu les Jébusiens, et aura atteint le canal, et les aveugles et les boiteux qui sont haïs de l'âme de David, [sera récompensé]. C'est pourquoi on dit: Aucun aveugle ni boiteux n'entrera dans cette maison.
Car David avait proposé en ce jour-là une récompense à celui qui battrait les Jébuséens, toucherait les gouttières des toits, et enlèverait les aveugles et les boiteux, haïssant l’âme de David. C’est pourquoi l’on dit en proverbe: Un aveugle et un boiteux n’entreront point dans le temple.
