< Lamentations 3 >

1 Èmi ni ọkùnrin tí ó rí ìpọ́njú pẹ̀lú ọ̀pá ìbínú rẹ.
ALEPH. I am the man that sees poverty, through the rod of his wrath upon me.
2 Ó ti lé mi jáde ó sì mú mi rìn nínú òkùnkùn ju ti ìmọ́lẹ̀.
He has taken me, and led me away into darkness, and not [into] light.
3 Nítòótọ́, ó ti yí ọwọ́ rẹ̀ padà sí mi síwájú àti síwájú sí i ní gbogbo ọjọ́.
Nay, against me has he turned his hand all the day.
4 Ó jẹ́ kí àwọ̀ mi àti ẹran-ara mi gbó ó sì tún ṣẹ́ egungun mi.
He has made old my flesh and my skin; he has broken my bones.
5 Ó ti fi mí sí ìgbèkùn, ó sì ti yí mi ká pẹ̀lú ìkorò àti làálàá.
BETH. He has built against me, and compassed my head, and brought travail [upon me].
6 Ó mú mi gbé nínú òkùnkùn, bí ti àwọn tó ti kú fún ìgbà pípẹ́.
He has set me in dark places, as them that have long been dead.
7 Ó ti tì mí mọ́ ilé, nítorí náà n kò le è sálọ; ó ti fi ẹ̀wọ̀n mú mi mọ́lẹ̀.
He has builded against me, and I can’t come forth: he has made my brazen [chain] heavy.
8 Pàápàá nígbà tí mo ké fún ìrànlọ́wọ́, ó kọ àdúrà mi.
GIMEL. Yes, [though] I cry and shout, he shuts out my prayer.
9 Ó fi ògiri òkúta dí ọ̀nà mi; ó sì mú ọ̀nà mi wọ́.
DALETH. He has built up my ways, he has hedged my paths;
10 Bí i beari tí ó dùbúlẹ̀, bí i kìnnìún tí ó sá pamọ́.
he has troubled me, [as] a she-bear lying in wait: he is to me [as] a lion in secret places.
11 Ó wọ́ mi kúrò ní ọ̀nà, ó tẹ̀ mí mọ́lẹ̀ ó fi mi sílẹ̀ láìsí ìrànlọ́wọ́.
He pursued [me] after I departed, and brought me to a stand: he has utterly ruined me.
12 Ó fa ọfà rẹ̀ yọ ó sì fi mí ṣe ohun ìtafàsí.
HE. He has bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
13 Ó fa ọkàn mí ya pẹ̀lú ọfà nínú àkọ̀ rẹ̀.
He has caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.
14 Mo di ẹni yẹ̀yẹ́ láàrín àwọn ènìyàn mi; wọn yẹ̀yẹ́ mi pẹ̀lú orin ní gbogbo ọjọ́.
I became a laughing stock to all my people; and their song all the day.
15 Ó ti kún mi pẹ̀lú ewé kíkorò àti ìdààmú bí omi.
VAU. He has filled me with bitterness, he has drenched me with gall.
16 Ó ti fi òkúta kán eyín mi; ó ti tẹ̀ mí mọ́lẹ̀ nínú eruku.
And he has dashed out my teeth with gravel, he has fed me with ashes.
17 Mo ti jìnnà sí àlàáfíà; mo ti gbàgbé ohun tí àṣeyege ń ṣe.
He has also removed my soul from peace: I forgot prosperity.
18 Nítorí náà mo wí pé, “Ògo mi ti lọ àti ìrètí mi nínú Olúwa.”
Therefore my success has perished, and my hope from the Lord.
19 Mo ṣe ìrántí ìpọ́njú àti ìdààmú mi, ìkorò àti ìbànújẹ́.
ZAIN. I remembered by reason of my poverty, and because of persecution my bitterness and gall shall be remembered;

and my soul shall meditate with me.
21 Síbẹ̀, èyí ni mo ní ní ọkàn àti nítorí náà ní mo nírètí.

22 Nítorí ìfẹ́ Olúwa tí ó lágbára ni àwa kò fi ṣègbé, nítorí ti àánú rẹ kì í kùnà.
HETH. [It is] the mercies of the Lord, that he has not failed me, because his compassions are not exhausted. Pity [us], O Lord, early [every] month: for we are not brought to an end, because his compassions are not exhausted.
23 Wọ́n jẹ́ ọ̀tún ní àárọ̀; títóbi ni òdodo rẹ̀.
[They are] new every morning: great is your faithfulness.

The Lord is my portion, says my soul; therefore will I wait for him.
25 Dídára ni Olúwa fún àwọn tí ó ní ìrètí nínú rẹ̀, sí àwọn tí ó ń wá a.

[is] good, and shall wait for, and quietly expect salvation of the Lord.
27 Ó dára fún ènìyàn láti gbé àjàgà nígbà tí ó wà ní èwe.
TETH. [It is] good for a man when he bears a yoke in his youth.
28 Jẹ́ kí ó jókòó ní ìdákẹ́ jẹ́ẹ́, nítorí Olúwa ti fi fún un.
He will sit alone, and be silent, because he has borne [it] upon him.
29 Jẹ́ kí ó bo ojú rẹ̀ sínú eruku— ìrètí sì lè wà.
30 Jẹ́ kí ó fi ẹ̀rẹ̀kẹ́ fún àwọn tí yóò gbá a, sì jẹ́ kí ó wà ní ìdójútì.
JOD. He will give [his] cheek to him that smites him: he will be filled full with reproaches.
31 Ènìyàn kò di ìtanù lọ́dọ̀ Olúwa títí láé.
For the Lord will not reject for ever.
32 Lóòtítọ́ ó mú ìbànújẹ́ wá, yóò fi àánú hàn, nítorí títóbi ni ìfẹ́ rẹ̀.
CHAPH. For he that has brought down will pity, and [that] according to the abundance of his mercy.
33 Nítorí kò mọ̀ ọ́n mọ̀ mú ìpọ́njú wá tàbí ìrora wá fún ọmọ ènìyàn.
He has not answered [in anger] from his heart, though he has brought low the children of a man.
34 Láti tẹ mọ́lẹ̀ lábẹ́ ẹsẹ̀ gbogbo àwọn ẹlẹ́wọ̀n ní ilẹ̀ náà.
LAMED. To bring down under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,
35 Láti ṣẹ́ ọmọ ènìyàn fún ẹ̀tọ́ rẹ̀ níwájú Ọ̀gá-ògo jùlọ,
to turn aside the judgment of a man before the face of the Most High,

to condemn a man [unjustly] in his judgment, the Lord has not given commandment.
37 Ta ni yóò sọ̀rọ̀ tí yóò rí bẹ́ẹ̀ tí Olúwa kò bá fi àṣẹ sí i.
Who has thus spoken, and it has come to pass? the Lord has not commanded it.
38 Ǹjẹ́ kì í ṣe láti ẹnu Ọ̀gá-ògo jùlọ ni rere àti búburú tí ń wá?
Out of the mouth of the Most High there shall not come forth evil and good.
39 Kí ló dé tí ẹ̀dá alààyè ṣe ń kùn nígbà tí ó bá ń jìyà ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ rẹ̀?
MEM. Why should a living man complain, a man concerning his sin?
40 Ẹ jẹ́ kí a yẹ ọ̀nà wa, kí a sì dán an wò, kí a sì tọ Olúwa lọ.
NUN. Our way has been searched out and examined, and we will turn to the Lord.

All our enemies have opened their mouth against us.
47 Àwa ti jìyà àti ìparun, nínú ìbẹ̀rù àti ewu.”
Fear and wrath are come upon us, suspense and destruction.

56 Ìwọ gbọ́ ẹ̀bẹ̀ mi, “Má ṣe di etí rẹ sí igbe ẹ̀bẹ̀ mi fún ìtura.”
You heard my voice: close not your ears to my supplication.
57 O wá tòsí nígbà tí mo ké pè ọ́, o sì wí pé, “Má ṣe bẹ̀rù.”
You drew near to my help: in the day wherein I called upon you you said to me, Fear not.
58 Olúwa, ìwọ gba ẹjọ́ mi rò, o ra ẹ̀mí mi padà.
RECHS. O Lord, you has pleaded the causes of my soul; you has redeemed my life.

You will persecute them in anger, and will consume them from under the heaven, O Lord.
