Gióp 20

1 Xô-pha, người Na-a-ma, bèn đáp rằng:

Then Sophar the Minaean answered and said,

2 Vì cớ ấy tư tưởng tôi chỉ dạy cho tôi lời đáp, Và tại lời đó, tâm thần tôi bị cảm động trong mình tôi.

I did not suppose that you would answer thus: neither do you understand more than I.

3 Tôi đã nghe lời trách móc làm hổ thẹn tôi; Trí khôn tôi lấy sự thông minh mà đáp lời.

I will hear my shameful reproach; and the spirit of my understanding answers me.

4 Hãy biết rõ rằng, từ đời xưa, Từ khi loài người được đặt nơi thế gian,

Hast you [not] known these things of old, from the time that man was set upon the earth?

5 Thì sự thắng hơn của kẻ ác không có lâu, Và sự vui mừng của kẻ vô đạo chỉ một lúc mà thôi.

But the mirth of the ungodly is a signal downfall, and the joy of transgressors is destruction:

6 Dầu sự kiêu căng nó cất lên đến tận trời, Dầu cho đầu nó đụng chí mây,

although his gifts should go up to heaven, and his sacrifice reach the clouds.

7 Thì nó sẽ bị tiêu diệt đời đời như phân bón nó; Những người đã thấy nó sẽ hỏi rằng: Nó ở đâu?

For when he shall seem to be now established, then he shall utterly perish: and they that knew him shall say, Where is he?

8 Nó bay đi như một cơn chiêm bao, không ai gặp nó lại; Thật, nó sẽ biết mất như dị tượng ban đêm.

Like a dream that has fled away, he shall not be found; and he has fled like a vision of the night.

9 Con mắt đã thường xem nó, sẽ không thấy nó lại, Nơi nó ở cũng sẽ chẳng còn nhìn nó nữa.

The eye has looked upon him, but shall not [see him] again; and his place shall no longer perceive him.

10 Con cái nó sẽ cầu ơn kẻ nghèo, Và tay nó sẽ thường lại tài sản mà sự hung bạo nó đã cướp giựt.

Let [his] inferiors destroy his children, and let his hands kindle the fire of sorrow.

11 Tứ chi nó đầy sức lực của buổi đang thì; Nhưng sẽ nằm chung với nó trong bụi đất;

His bones have been filled with [vigour of] his youth, and it shall lie down with him in the dust.

12 Dẫu sự ác lấy làm ngọt ngào cho miệng nó, Dẫu ẩn dưới lưỡi hắn,

Though evil be sweet in his mouth, [though] he will hide it under his tongue;

13 Dẫu hắn tríu mến sự ác, không từ bỏ nó, Nhưng giữ nó lại trong miệng mình,

though he will not spare it, and will not leave it, but will keep it in the midst of his throat:

14 Thì vật thực nó sẽ biến nơi can tràng, Và thành ra mật rắn hổ trong bụng nó.

yet he shall not at all be able to help himself; the gall of an asp is in his belly.

15 Nó có nuốt của cải, rồi lại mửa ra; Đức chúa Trời sẽ tống của ấy ra khỏi bụng nó.

[His] wealth unjustly collected shall be vomited up; a messenger [of wrath] shall drag him out of his house.

16 Nó sẽ mút nọc rắn hổ; Lưỡi của rắn lục sẽ giết nó.

And let him suck the poison of serpents, and let the serpent's tongue kill him.

17 Nó sẽ chẳng thấy sông và dòng chảy mật cùng mỡ sữa ra.

Let him not see the milk of the pastures, nor the supplies of honey and butter.

18 Nó phải trả hoa lợi về công việc mình, không được nuốt nó; Phải thường lại tùy theo giá nó, Không được hưởng của ấy.

He has laboured unprofitably and in vain, [for] wealth of which he shall not taste: [it is] as a lean thing, unfit for food, which he can’t swallow.

19 Vì nó có hà hiếp, bỏ bê kẻ nghèo, Cướp lấy nhà cửa, mà nó không có xây cất.

For he has broken down the houses of many mighty men: and he has plundered an habitation, though he built [it] not.

20 Bởi vì nó không biết an tịnh trong mình, Nó sẽ chẳng được bảo thủ gì về các điều mình ưa thích hơn hết.

There is no security to his possessions; he shall not be saved by his desire.

21 Chẳng chi thoát khỏi sự mê ăn của nó; Cho nên sự may mắn nó chẳng bền lâu.

There is nothing remaining of his provisions; therefore his goods shall not flourish.

22 Đang khi dư dật, nó sẽ bị cùng túng; Các người khốn khổ sẽ tra tay vào mình nó.

But when he shall seem to be just satisfied, he shall be straitened; and all distress shall come upon him.

23 Đức Chúa Trời sẽ sai thạnh nộ Ngài hãm mình nó, Đặng làm cho lòng nó đầy dẫy, Ngài sẽ giáng cơn giận Ngài trên mình nó, chính trong lúc nó ăn bữa.

If by any means he would fill his belly, let [God] send upon him the fury of wrath; let him bring a torrent of pains upon him.

24 Nó sẽ trốn lánh khỏi khí giới sắt, Còn cây cung đồng sẽ xoi lũng nó.

And he shall by no means escape from the power of the sword; let the brazen bow wound him.

25 Nó nhổ tên ra khỏi thân nó, Mũi gươm bóng ngời rút ra khỏi gan nó; Các sự kinh khiếp hãm áp nó.

And let the arrow pierce through his body; and let the stars be against his dwelling-place: let terrors come upon him.

26 Cả sự tối tăm đã dành làm bửu vật cho nó; Lửa người ta không thổi sẽ thiêu đốt nó, Và kẻ còn sót lại trong trại nó sẽ bị tiêu diệt đi.

And let all darkness wait for him: a fire that burns not out shall consume him; and let a stranger plague his house.

27 Các từng trời sẽ bày tỏ gian ác nó ra, Và đất sẽ dấy lên nghịch cùng nó.

And let the heaven reveal his iniquities, and the earth rise up against him.

28 Hoa lợi của nhà nó sẽ bị đem đi mất, Tài sản nó sẽ bị trôi đi trong ngày thạnh nộ của Chúa.

Let destruction bring his house to an end; let a day of wrath come upon him.

29 Đó là phần mà Đức Chúa Trời dành cho kẻ hung ác, Và ấy là cơ nghiệp mà Ngài định cho nó.

This is the portion of an ungodly man from the Lord, and the possession of his goods [appointed him] by the all-seeing [God].
