II Sử Ký 17

1 Giô-sa-phát, con trai A-sa, cai trị thế cho người; người làm cho nước mình ra mạnh để nghịch cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên,

And Iehosphat his sonne reigned in his steade, and preuailed against Israel.

2 đặt những cơ binh nơi các thành bền vững của Giu-đa, lập đồn trong xứ Giu-đa và trong các thành Ép-ra-im, mà A-sa, cha người, đã chiếm lấy.

And he put garisons in all the strong cities of Iudah, and set bandes in the lande of Iudah and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

3 Ðức Giê-hô-va ở cùng Giô-sa-phát, vì người đi theo đường lối đầu tiên của Ða-vít, tổ phụ mình, không tìm cầu thần Ba-anh,

And the Lord was with Iehoshaphat, because he walked in the first wayes of his father Dauid, and sought not Baalim,

4 nhưng tìm cầu Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ mình, giữ theo các điều răn của Ngài, chớ chẳng làm như Y-sơ-ra-ên.

But sought the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandements, and not after the trade of Israel.

5 Vì vậy Ðức Giê-hô-va khiến nước vững chắc trong tay người; cả Giu-đa dâng lễ vật cho Giô-sa-phát, người được của cải nhiều và sự vinh hiển lớn.

Therefore the Lord stablished the kingdome in his hande, and all Iudah brought presents to Iehoshaphat, so that he had of riches and honour in abundance.

6 Người vững lòng theo các đường lối của Ðức Giê-hô-va; lại phá dỡ các nơi cao và những thần tượng A-sê-ra khỏi Giu-đa.

And he lift vp his heart vnto the wayes of the Lord, and he tooke away moreouer the hie places and the groues out of Iudah.

7 Năm thứ ba đời Giô-sa-phát trị vì, người sai các tôi tớ mình, là Bên-Hai, Ô-ba-đia, Xa-cha-ri, Na-tha-na-ên, và Mi-ca-gia đi dạy dỗ trong các thành xứ Giu-đa;

And in the thirde yere of his reigne he sent his princes, Ben-hail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethaneel, and Michaiah, that they should teach in the cities of Iudah,

8 có mấy người Lê-vi đi với họ, là Sê-ma-gia, Nê-tha-nia, Xê-ba-đia, A-sa-ên, Sê-mi-ra-mốt, Giô-na-than, A-đô-ni-gia, Tô-bi-gia, và Tô-ba-đô-ni-gia; lại có Ê-li-sa-ma và Giô-ram, hai thầy tế lễ cũng đi nữa;

And with them Leuites, Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Iehonathan, and Adoniiah, and Tobiiah, and Tob-adoniiah, Leuites, and with the Elishama and Iehoram Priestes.

9 chúng có đem theo mình sách luật pháp của Ðức Giê-hô-va, đi vòng các thành xứ Giu-đa mà dạy dỗ dân sự.

And they taught in Iudah, and had the booke of the Lawe of the Lord with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Iudah, and taught the people.

10 Ðức Giê-hô-va khiến các nước ở bốn phía của Giu-đa kinh hãi, chẳng dám chinh chiến với Giô-sa-phát.

And the feare of the Lord fell vpon all the kingdomes of ye lands that were round about Iudah, and they fought not against Iehoshaphat.

11 Có dân Phi-li-tin đem dâng cho Giô-sa-phát những lễ vật và bạc cống thuế; người A rạp cũng dẫn đến cho người những bầy súc vật: bảy ngàn bảy trăm con chiên đực, và bảy ngàn bảy trăm con dê đực.

Also some of the Philistims brought Iehoshaphat giftes and tribute siluer, and the Arabians brought him flockes, seuen thousande and seuen hundreth rammes, and seuen thousande and seuen hundreth hee goates.

12 Giô-sa-phát càng ngày càng cường đại, cho đến tột bực. Người xây cất trong xứ Giu-đa những đền đài và thành kho tàng.

So Iehoshaphat prospered and grewe vp on hie: and he built in Iudah palaces and cities of store.

13 Người có nhiều công việc trong các thành Giu-đa, và tại Giê-ru-sa-lem có những lính chiến mạnh dạn.

And he had great workes in the cities of Iudah, and men of warre, and valiant men in Ierusalem.

14 Ðây là sổ kể các người ấy tùy theo nhà tổ phụ họ; về Giu-đa, có những quan tướng ngàn người, là Át-na làm đầu, người lãnh ba mươi vạn người mạnh dạn;

And these are the nombers of them after the house of their fathers, In Iudah were captaines of thousands, Adnah the captaine, and with him of valiant men three hundreth thousande.

15 kế người có Giô-ha-nan làm đầu, người lãnh hai mươi tám vạn người mạnh dạn;

And at his hande Iehohanan a captaine, and with him two hundreth and fourescore thousande.

16 sau người này có A-ma-sia, con trai của Xiếc-ri, là người vui lòng dâng mình cho Ðức Giê-hô-va, người lãnh hai mươi vạn người mạnh dạn.

And at his hande Amasiah the sonne of Zichri, which willingly offered him selfe vnto the Lord, and with him two hundreth thousand valiant men.

17 Về Bên-gia-min có Ê-li-a-đa, là người mạnh dạn, người lãnh hai mươi vạn quân cầm cung và khiên;

And of Beniamin, Eliada a valiant man, and with him armed men with bowe and shielde two hundreth thousand.

18 kế người có Giê-hô-xa-bát, người lãnh mười tám vạn binh đều sắm sửa ra trận.

And at his hand Iehozabad, and with him an hundreth and fourescore thousand armed to the warre.

19 Ðó là những người giúp việc vua, trừ ra những người mà vua đặt trong các thành bền vững khắp xứ Giu-đa.

These waited on the King, besides those which the King put in the strong cities thoroughout all Iudah.
