I Sa-mu-ên 9
1 Bấy giờ, có một người Bên-gia-min, tên là Kích, con trai A-bi-ên, cháu Xê-rô, chắt Bê-cô-rát, chít A-phi-ác, là con trai của một người Bên-ga-min. Kích vốn một người dõng sĩ,
There was nowe a man of Beniamin, mightie in power named Kish, the sonne of Abiel, the sonne of Zeror, the sonne of Bechorath, the sonne of Aphiah, the sonne of a man of Iemini.
2 có một con trai, tên là Sau-lơ, còn trẻ và lịch sự. Trong dân Y-sơ-ra-ên chẳng ai lịch sự bằng người; người cao hơn cả dân sự từ vai trở lên.
And he had a sonne called Saul, a goodly yong man and a faire: so that among the children of Israel there was none goodlier then he: from the shoulders vpwarde he was hier then any of the people.
3 Một ngày kia, những lừa cái của Kích, cha Sau-lơ, bị lạc. Kích nói cùng Sau-lơ, con trai mình, rằng: Hãy đem theo một tôi tớ, đi tìm những lừa cái.
And the asses of Kish Sauls father were lost: therefore Kish said to Saul his sonne, Take nowe one of the seruants with thee, and arise, goe, and seeke the asses.
4 Người đi khắp núi Ép-ra-im, khắp xứ Sa-li-sa, mà không tìm được; lại trải qua xứ Sa-lim, xứ Bên-gia-min, song cũng không gặp.
So he passed through mount Ephraim, and went through the lande of Shalishah, but they found them not. Then they went through the land of Shalim, and there they were not: he went also through ye land of Iemini, but they found the not.
5 Ðến trong xứ Xu-phơ, Sau-lơ nói cùng tôi tớ theo mình, rằng; Nầy chúng ta hãy trở về, kẻo cha ta đã đành mất lừa, lại lo cho chúng ta chăng.
When they came to the lande of Zuph, Saul saide vnto his seruant that was with him, Come and let vs returne, lest my father leaue the care of asses, and take thought for vs.
6 Kẻ tôi tớ đáp cùng Sau-lơ rằng: Hãy nghe, trong thành nầy có một người của Ðức Chúa Trời, là người rất tôn trọng; mọi sự người nói trước điều ứng nghiệm chẳng sai. Vậy, chúng ta hãy đi đến đó. Có lẽ người sẽ chỉ cho chúng ta con đường phải nương theo.
And he said vnto him, Behold nowe, in this citie is a man of God, and he is an honorable man: all that he saith commeth to passe: let vs nowe goe thither, if so be that he can shewe vs what way we may goe.
7 Sau-lơ nói cùng kẻ tôi tớ mình, rằng: Phải, chúng ta hãy đi đó. Nhưng chúng ta phải lấy gì mà dâng cho người? Các bao chúng ta đều hết lương thực, và chúng ta chẳng còn một lễ vật nào để dâng cho người của Ðức Chúa Trời! Chúng ta còn chi?
Then saide Saul to his seruant, Well then, let vs goe: but what shall we bring vnto the man? For the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is no present to bring to the man of God: what haue we?
8 Kẻ tôi tớ tiếp rằng: Tôi có trong mình một phần tư siếc-lơ bạc; tôi sẽ dâng bạc đó cho người của Ðức Chúa Trời, rồi người sẽ chỉ đường cho chúng ta.
And the seruant answered Saul againe, and said, Beholde, I haue founde about me the fourth part of a shekell of siluer: that will I giue the man of God, to tell vs our way.
9 (Thuở xưa, trong Y-sơ-ra-ên, hễ người ta đi cầu vấn Ðức Chúa Trời, thì thường nói rằng: Chúng ta hãy đi tìm người tiên kiến; vì người mà thiên hạ ngày nay gọi là tiên tri, ngày xưa gọi là người tiên kiến).
(Beforetime in Israel when a man went to seeke an answere of God, thus he spake, Come, and let vs goe to the Seer: for he that is called nowe a Prophet, was in the olde time called a Seer)
10 Sau-lơ nói cùng kẻ tôi tớ rằng: Ngươi nói phải; chúng ta hãy đi. Hai người bèn đi đến thành người của Ðức Chúa Trời ở.
Then saide Saul to his seruant, Well saide, come, let vs goe: so they went into the citie where the man of God was.
11 Khi hai người đi lên đường dốc về thành, thì gặp những con gái trẻ đi ra múc mước, bèn hỏi rằng: Ðấng tiên kiến có đây chăng?
And as they were going vp the hie way to the citie, they found maydes that came out to draw water, and said vnto them, Is there here a Seer?
12 Các con gái trẻ đáp rằng: Có, kìa người ở đằng trước mặt ông. Nhưng hãy đi mau, vì ngày nay người đến thành, bởi bá tánh có việc tế lễ tại nơi cao.
And they answered them, and said, Yea: loe, he is before you: make haste nowe, for he came this day to the citie: for there is an offering of the people this day in the hie place.
13 Khi vào thành, hai ông chắc sẽ gặp người trước khi chưa lên nơi cao đặng dự lễ. Bá tánh không ăn trước khi người đến, vì người phải chúc phước cho của lễ; xong rồi, các người dự tiệc mới ăn. Vậy, hãy đi lên, nội ngày nay hai ông chắc sẽ gặp người.
When ye shall come into the citie, ye shall finde him straightway yet he come vp to the hie place to eate: for the people will not eate vntill he come, because he will blesse the sacrifice: and then eate they that be bidden to the feast: nowe therefore goe vp: for euen now shall ye find him.
14 Hai người đi lên thành; khi vừa vào thành, bèn gặp Sa-mu-ên đi ra đặng lên nơi cao.
Then they went vp into the citie, and when they were come into the middes of the citie, Samuel came out against them, to goe vp to the hie place.
15 Vả, ngày trước khi Sau-lơ đến, Ðức Giê-hô-va tỏ ra cho Sa-mu-ên, mà rằng:
But the Lord had reueiled to Samuel secretly (a day before Saul came) saying,
16 Ngày mai, tại giờ nầy, ta sẽ sai một người ở xứ Bên-gia-min đến cùng ngươi, ngươi sẽ xức dầu cho người làm vua của dân Y-sơ-ra-ên ta. Người sẽ giải cứu dân ta khỏi tay dân Phi-li-tin; vì ta đã đoái xem dân ta, và tiếng của chúng đã thấu đến ta.
To morow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Beniamin: him shalt thou anoint to be gouernour ouer my people Israel, that he may saue my people out of the hands of the Philistims: for I haue looked vpon my people, and their crie is come vnto me.
17 Khi Sa-mu-ên thấy Sau-lơ, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng người rằng: Kìa là người mà ta đã bảo ngươi; ấy người sẽ quản trị dân ta.
When Samuel therefore sawe Saul, the Lord answered him, See, this is the man whom I spake to thee of, he shall rule my people.
18 Sau-lơ đến gần Sa-mu-ên tại cửa thành mà nói cùng người rằng: Xin ông hãy chỉ cho tôi nhà của đấng tiên kiến.
Then went Saul to Samuel in the middes of the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the Seers house is.
19 Sa-mu-ên đáp cùng Sau-lơ rằng: Ta là đấng tiên kiến đây. Hãy đi trước ta lên nơi cao. Ngày nay hai ngươi sẽ ăn bữa cùng ta; đến mai ta sẽ tỏ cho ngươi mọi điều trong lòng ngươi, đoạn để ngươi đi.
And Samuel answered Saul, and saide, I am the Seer: goe vp before me vnto the hie place: for ye shall eate with me to day. and to morowe I will let thee goe, and will tell thee all that is in thine heart.
20 Còn những lừa cái mà ngươi đã mất ba ngày nay, chớ lo lắng về chúng nó; vì đã kiếm được rồi. Vả lại, mọi vật quí trọng hơn hết trong Y-sơ-ra-ên đã dành cho ai? Há chẳng phải cho ngươi và cho cả nhà của cha ngươi sao?
And as for thine asses that were lost three dayes ago, care not for them: for they are founde. and on whom is set all the desire of Israel? is it not vpon thee and on all thy fathers house?
21 Sau-lơ đáp: Tôi chỉ là một người Bên-gia-min, là một chi phái nhỏ hơn hết trong Y-sơ-ra-ên; nhà tôi lại hèn mọn hơn hết các nhà của chi phái Bên-gia-min. Nhân sao ông nói với tôi giọng như vậy.
But Saul answered, and said, Am not I the sonne of Iemini of the smallest tribe of Israel? and my familie is the least of all the families of the tribe of Beniamin. Wherefore then speakest thou so to me?
22 Sa-mu-ên dẫn Sau-lơ và kẻ tôi tớ người vào phòng, rồi mời ngồi chỗ thứ nhất trong các người dự tiệc, số chừng ba mươi người.
And Samuel tooke Saul and his seruant, and brought them into the chamber, and made them sit in the chiefest place among them that were bidden: which were about thirtie persons.
23 Bấy giờ, Sa-mu-ên nói cùng đầu bếp rằng: Hãy bưng phần ta đã trao cho ngươi, và ta đã dặn để riêng ra.
And Samuel saide vnto the cooke, Bring foorth the portion which I gaue thee, and whereof I said vnto thee, Keepe it with thee.
24 Ðầu bếp lấy chả vai và miếng bọc chung quanh, đem dọn cho Sau-lơ, Sa-mu-ên tiếp rằng: Kìa, miếng đã để dành cho ngươi trước ở mặt ngươi; hãy ăn đi, từ khi ta định mời dân sự, ta đã giữ nó lại về tiệc nầy. Vậy, trong ngày đó, Sau-lơ ăn bữa cùng Sa-mu-ên.
And the cooke tooke vp the shoulder, and that which was vpon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Beholde, that which is left, set it before thee and eate: for hitherto hath it bene kept for thee, saying, Also I haue called the people. So Saul did eate with Samuel that day.
25 Ðoạn, chúng đều xuống khỏi nơi cao, vào trong thành; còn Sa-mu-ên trò chuyện cùng Sau-lơ trên mái nhà.
And when they were come downe from the hie place into the citie, he communed with Saul vpon the top of the house.
26 Qua ngày sau, hai người dậy sớm; khi hừng đông, Sa-mu-ên gọi Sau-lơ trên mái nhà mà nói rằng: Hãy đứng dậy, ta sẽ đưa ngươi đi. Sau-lơ đứng dậy, rồi Sa-mu-ên và Sau-lơ cả hai đồng đi ra.
And when they arose early about ye spring of the day, Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Vp, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out, both he, and Samuel.
27 Khi đến đầu thành, Sa-mu-ên nói cùng Sau-lơ rằng: Hãy truyền cho kẻ tôi tớ đi trước chúng ta. Kẻ tôi tớ bèn đi trước. Người tiếp rằng: Bây giờ, hãy dừng lại để ta nói cho nguơi nghe lời của Ðức Chúa Trời.
And when they were come downe to the ende of the citie, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the seruant goe before vs, (and he went) but stand thou still nowe, that I may shewe thee the worde of God.
