I Sa-mu-ên 20
1 Ða-vít trốn khỏi Na-giốt trong Ra-ma, đến cùng Giô-na-than, mà nói rằng: Tôi đã làm chi, tội ác tôi là gì? Tôi đã phạm tội chi cùng cha anh, mà người toan hại mạng sống tôi?
And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? What is my iniquity, and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeks my life?
2 Giô-na-than đáp cùng người rằng: Chẳng phải thế! anh không chết đâu. Cha tôi chẳng làm một sự gì, bất luận lớn hay nhỏ, mà chẳng nói trước với tôi. Vậy, nhân sao cha tôi giấu tôi sự nầy với tôi? Ðiều đó chẳng thể được.
And he said to him, Far from it. Thou shall not die. Behold, my father does nothing either great or small, but that he discloses it to me, and why should my father hide this thing from me? It is not so.
3 Nhưng Ða-vít lại thề nguyền mà rằng: Cha anh biết rõ rằng tôi được ơn trước mặt anh, nên có nói rằng: Chớ nên cho Giô-na-than biết gì, kẻo nó phải lo buồn chăng. Song ta chỉ Ðức Giê-hô-va hằng sống và mạng sống của anh mà thề rằng, chỉ còn một bước cách tôi và sự chết mà thôi.
And David swore moreover, and said, Thy father knows well that I have found favor in thine eyes, and he says, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved. But truly as Jehovah lives, and as thy soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.
4 Giô-na-than đáp cùng Ða-vít rằng: Hễ anh muốn tôi làm điều gì, thì ta sẽ làm cho anh.
Then Jonathan said to David, Whatever thy soul desires, I will even do it for thee.
5 Ða-vít tiếp rằng: Mai là ngày mồng một, tôi phải đi ngồi ăn chung bàn với vua. Hãy để cho tôi đi trốn trong đồng bằng cho đến chiều ngày thứ ba.
And David said to Jonathan, Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king to eat. But let me go that I may hide myself in the field to the third day at evening.
6 Nếu cha anh thấy tôi vắng mặt, thì hãy nói cùng người rằng: Ða-vít có cố nài xin tôi cho nó đi về Bết-lê-hem, quê hương nó, vì đó cả nhà nó dâng của lễ hằng năm.
If thy father misses me at all, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city, for it is the yearly sacrifice there for all the family.
7 Nếu người đáp: Tốt, thì kẻ tôi tớ anh sẽ được bình yên. Còn nếu người nổi giận, thì hãy biết rằng người định ý hại tôi.
If he says thus, It is well. Thy servant shall have peace. But if he is angry, then know that evil is determined by him.
8 Vậy, hãy tỏ lòng nhân từ cho kẻ tôi tớ anh, bởi vì anh đã nhơn danh Ðức Giê-hô-va mà kết ước cùng kẻ tôi tớ anh. Song phần tôi ví có tội gì, xin chính anh hãy giết tôi đi; cớ sao anh lại dẫn tôi đến cha anh?
Therefore deal kindly with thy servant, for thou have brought thy servant into a covenant of Jehovah with thee. But if there be in me iniquity, kill me thyself, for why should thou bring me to thy father?
9 Giô-na-than đáp lại rằng: Chớ có nghĩ như vậy! Trái lại, nếu tôi biết thật cha tôi định ý hại anh, dễ nào tôi chẳng cho anh hay?
And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee, for if I should at all know that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would I not tell it to thee?
10 Ða-vít đáp cùng Giô-na-than rằng: Nhưng nếu cha anh dùng lời nghiêm khắc đáp cùng anh, thì ai sẽ cho tôi hay?
Then David said to Jonathan, Who shall tell me if perchance thy father answers thee roughly?
11 Giô-na-than đáp cùng Ða-vít rằng: Hè, chúng ta hãy ra ngoài đồng. Cả hai đều đi ra ngoài đồng.
And Jonathan said to David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.
12 Giô-na-than nói cùng Ða-vít rằng: Giê-hô-va, Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, làm chứng! Ngày mai hay là ngày mốt, tại giờ nầy, tôi sẽ dọ ý cha tôi. Nếu thấy chẳng có điều chi nên sợ cho anh, thì tôi không sai người nào đến cho anh hay biết;
And Jonathan said to David, Jehovah, the God of Israel-when I have sounded my father about this time tomorrow, or the third day, behold, if there be good toward David, shall I not then send to thee, and disclose it to thee?
13 còn nếu cha tôi quyết lòng làm hại anh, tôi sẽ cho anh hay trước, biểu anh đi, và anh sẽ đi bình yên. Bằng chẳng, nguyện Ðức Giê-hô-va phạt Giô-na-than cách nặng nề! Cầu xin Ðức Giê-hô-va ở cùng anh, như Ngài đã ở cùng cha tôi!
Jehovah do so to Jonathan, and more also, should it please my father to do thee evil, if I not disclose it to thee, and send thee away that thou may go in peace. And Jehovah be with thee as he has been with my father.
14 Và ngày sau, nếu tôi còn sống, có phải anh sẽ lấy sự nhân từ của Ðức Giê-hô-va mà đãi tôi chăng? Nhưng nếu tôi chết,
And thou shall not only show me the loving kindness of Jehovah, while I yet live, that I not die,
15 dẫu khi Ðức Giê-hô-va diệt hết thảy kẻ thù nghịch của Ða-vít khỏi mặt đất cho đến cùng, thì cũng chớ cất ơn thương nhà tôi đến đời đời.
but also thou shall not cut off thy kindness from my house forever. No, not when Jehovah has cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.
16 Như vậy, Giô-na-than kết giao ước cùng nhà Ða-vít mà rằng: Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ báo thù những thù nghịch của Ða-vít.
So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, And Jehovah will require it at the hand of David's enemies.
17 Giô-na-than thương yêu Ða-vít như mạng sống mình vậy, nên khiến Ða-vít lại thề nữa.
And Jonathan caused David to swear again, for the love that he had to him. For he loved him as he loved his own soul.
18 Giô-na-than tiếp rằng: Mai là ngày mồng một, sự vắng mặt anh người ta ắt sẽ thấy; vì chỗ anh sẽ trống.
Then Jonathan said to him, Tomorrow is the new moon, and thou will be missed because thy seat will be empty.
19 Ngày mốt, chớ quên đi xuống mau đến nơi anh đã ẩn ngày trước, là ngày định làm việc, và anh sẽ đợi gần bên hòn đá Ê-xe.
And when thou have stayed three days, thou shall go down quickly, and come to the place where thou hid thyself when the business was in hand, and shall remain by the stone Ezel.
20 Tôi sẽ bắn ba mũi tên về phía hòn đá đó dường như tôi bắn vào một cái bia.
And I will shoot three arrows on the side of it, as though I shot at a mark.
21 Ðoạn, tôi sẽ sai tôi tớ tôi, và bảo nó rằng: Hãy đi lượm các mũi tên. Nếu tôi nói với nó rằng: Kìa, các mũi tên ở bên nầy mầy, hãy lượm lấy đi, bấy giờ anh hãy đến; tôi chỉ Ðức Giê-hô-va hằng sống mà thề, mọi việc đều bình an cho anh, chẳng có gì nên sợ hết!
And, behold, I will send the lad, saying, Go, find the arrows. If I say to the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them, and come, for there is peace to thee and no hurt, as Jehovah lives.
22 Nhưng nếu tôi nói cùng đứa trẻ rằng: Kìa, các mũi tên ở bên kia mầy, bấy giờ anh khá đi, vì Ðức Giê-hô-va khiến anh đi.
But if I say thus to the boy, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee, go thy way, for Jehovah has sent thee away.
23 Còn về lời chúng ta đã nói nhau, nguyện Ðức Giê-hô-va làm chứng giữa anh và tôi đến đời đời.
And concerning the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, Jehovah is between thee and me forever.
24 Vậy, Ða-vít ẩn trong đồng. Khi đến ngày mồng một, vua ngồi bàn đặng ăn bữa;
So David hid himself in the field. And when the new moon came, the king sat down to eat food.
25 người ngồi nơi chỗ thường ngồi ở gần bên vách. Giô-na-than đứng dậy, và Áp-ne ngồi bên Sau-lơ; còn chỗ của Ða-vít thì bỏ không.
And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon the seat by the wall, and Jonathan stood up, and Abner sat by Saul's side, but David's place was empty.
26 Ngày đó, Sau-lơ chẳng nói chi hết, vì tưởng rằng: Có sự gì rủi ro đã xảy đến cho hắn rồi! Chắc hẳn hắn không sạch, đã phải sự gì ô uế rồi.
Nevertheless Saul spoke nothing that day, for he thought, Something has befallen him. He is not clean. Surely he is not clean.
27 Song ngày sau, là ngày mồng hai, chỗ của Ða-vít lại bỏ không nữa. Sau-lơ nói cùng Giô-na-than, con trai mình, rằng: Cớ sao con trai của Y-sai không đến dự ăn bữa hôm qua và ngày nay?
And it came to pass on the morrow after the new moon, which was the second day, that David's place was empty. And Saul said to Jonathan his son, Why has the son of Jesse not come in to the food, neither yesterday, nor today?
28 Giô-na-than thưa cùng Sau-lơ rằng: Ða-vít có nài xin phép tôi đi đến Bết-lê-hem,
And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem.
29 mà rằng: Xin để tôi đi; vì nhà chúng tôi có một sự tế tự trong thành, mà anh tôi đã dặn tôi phải đi đến. Vậy bây giờ, nếu tôi được ơn trước mặt người, xin cho phép tôi lập tức đi đến đó đặng thăm các anh tôi. Ấy bởi cớ đó người không đến ngồi bàn.
And he said, Let me go, I pray thee, for our family has a sacrifice in the city, and my brother, he has commanded me. And now, if I have found favor in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brothers. Therefore he has not come to the king's table.
30 Bấy giờ, Sau-lơ nổi giận cùng Giô-na-than, mà rằng: Ớ con trai gian tà và bội nghịch kia, ta biết mầy có kết bạn cùng con trai của Y-sai, đáng hổ nhục cho mầy, và đáng hổ nhục cho mẹ đã đẻ mầy thay!
Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, Thou son of a perverse rebellious woman, do I not know that thou have chosen the son of Jesse to thine own shame, and to the shame of thy mother's nakedness?
31 Thật, hễ con trai Y-sai sống lâu trên mặt đất chừng nào, thì mầy và nước mầy chẳng vững bền chừng nấy. Vậy bây giờ, hãy sai đi kiếm nó, dẫn nó về cho ta; vì nó phải chết hẳn.
For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the ground, thou shall not be established, nor thy kingdom. Therefore now send and fetch him to me, for he shall surely die.
32 Giô-na-than thưa cùng Sau-lơ, cha mình, rằng: Cớ sao giết nó đi? Nó có làm điều gì?
And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, Why should he be put to death? What has he done?
33 Sau-lơ phóng cây giáo đặng đâm người; Giô-na-than bèn nhìn biết cha mình đã nhứt định giết Ða-vít.
And Saul cast his spear at him to smite him. By this Jonathan knew that it was determined by his father to put David to death.
34 Giô-na-than bèn chổi dậy khỏi bàn, tức giận lắm, và trong ngày mồng hai chẳng ăn gì hết, lấy làm buồn bực về Ða-vít, vì cha mình đã sỉ nhục người.
So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and ate no food the second day of the month, for he was grieved for David because his father had done him shame.
35 Qua ngày sau, Giô-na-than đi ra ngoài đồng tại nơi đã hẹn cùng Ða-vít; có một đứa tôi tớ trẻ theo người.
And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him.
36 Người nói cùng nó rằng: Hãy chạy lượm những tên ta sẽ bắn. Kẻ tôi tớ chạy, Giô-na-than bắn một mũi tên qua khỏi nó.
And he said to his lad, Run, now find the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.
37 Khi kẻ tôi tớ đi đến nơi có tên Giô-na-than đã bắn, thì Giô-na-than la lên rằng: Tên há chẳng ở bên kia mầy sao?
And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad, and said, Is not the arrow beyond thee?
38 Giô-na-than lại kêu kẻ tôi tớ rằng: Hãy đi mau, chớ dừng lại! Kẻ tôi tớ lượm mũi tên, rồi trở lại cùng chủ mình.
And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.
39 Vả, tôi tớ chẳng biết chi cả, song Ða-vít và Giô-na-than hiểu biết điều đó là gì.
But the lad knew nothing. Only Jonathan and David knew the matter.
40 Giô-na-than trao binh khí cho tôi tớ mình, và bảo rằng: Hãy đi, đem nó về trong thành.
And Jonathan gave his weapons to his lad, and said to him, Go, carry them to the city.
41 Khi tôi tớ đã đi rồi, Ða-vít chổi dậy từ phía nam, sấp mình xuống đất và lạy ba lần, đoạn hai người ôm nhau và khóc, Ða-vít khóc nhiều hơn.
And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the South, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times. And they kissed each other, and wept one with another until David surpassed him.
42 Giô-na-than nói cùng Ða-vít rằng: Anh hãy đi bình an; chúng ta đã nhơn danh Ðức Giê-hô-va lập lời thề cùng nhau rằng: Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ làm chứng giữa tôi và anh, giữa dòng dõi tôi và dòng dõi anh đến đời đời. Vậy, Ða-vít chổi dậy và đi, còn Giô-na-than trở vào trong thành.
And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, inasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of Jehovah, saying, Jehovah shall be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed, forever. And he arose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city.
