I Sa-mu-ên 14

1 Một ngày kia, Giô-na-than, con trai của Sau-lơ, nói cùng gã trai trẻ vác binh khí mình, mà rằng: Hè, chúng ta hãy đi qua đồn quân Phi-li-tin, đóng ở phía bên kia. Nhưng người chẳng nói cho cha mình hay.

Then on a day Ionathan the sonne of Saul sayde vnto the yong man that bare his armour, Come and let vs goe ouer towarde the Philistims garison, that is yonder on the other side, but he tolde not his father.

2 Bấy giờ, Sau-lơ ở tại đầu ranh Ghi-bê-a, dưới cây lựu của Mi-gơ-rôn, còn đạo quân theo người ước chừng sáu trăm người.

And Saul taried in the border of Gibeah vnder a pomegranate tree, which was in Migron, and the people that were with him, were about sixe hundreth men.

3 A-hi-gia, con trai A-hi-túp, anh của Y-ca-bốt, con trai Phi-nê-a, cháu Hê-li, mặc áo ê-phót, làm thầy tế lễ tại Si-lô. Dân sự không biết Giô-na-than đi.

And Ahiah the sonne of Ahitub, Ichabods brother, the sonne of Phinehas, the sonne of Eli, was the Lordes Priest in Shiloh, and ware an Ephod: and the people knewe not that Ionathan was gone.

4 Ở giữa đèo mà Giô-na-than gắng sức đi đặng đến đồn Phi-li-tin, có một răng đá ở bên nầy, và một răng ở bên kia; cái nầy gọi là Bốt-sết, còn cái kia gọi là Sê-nê.

Nowe in the way whereby Ionathan sought to go ouer to the Philistims garison, there was a sharpe rocke on the one side, and a sharpe rocke on the other side: the name of the one was called Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

5 Một cái răng đá mọc lên về phía bắc, đối ngang Mích-ma, còn cái kia ở tại phía nam, đối ngang Ghê-ba.

The one rocke stretched from the North towarde Michmash, and the other was from the South toward Gibeah.

6 Giô-na-than nói cùng kẻ vác binh khí mình rằng: Hè, chúng ta hãy hãm đồn của những kẻ chẳng chịu cắt bì kia. Hoặc giả Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ hành sự vì chúng ta chăng; vì Ðức Giê-hô-va khiến cho số ít người được thắng cũng như số đông người vậy.

And Ionathan saide to the yong man that bare his armour, Come, and let vs goe ouer vnto the garison of these vncircumcised: it may be that the Lord will worke with vs: for it is not hard to the Lord to saue with many, or with fewe.

7 Kẻ vác binh khí của người thưa rằng: Hãy làm điều ông ước, và đi nơi nào ông muốn; lòng ông dẫn ông đi đâu, tôi sẽ theo đó.

And he that bare his armour, saide vnto him, Doe all that is in thine heart: goe where it pleaseth thee: beholde, I am with thee as thine heart desireth.

8 Giô-na-than tiếp: Nầy, chúng ta hãy đi đến những người ấy, tỏ mình ra cho chúng nó.

Then said Ionathan, Beholde, we goe ouer vnto those men, and will shewe our selues vnto them.

9 Nếu chúng nó nói: Hãy đợi chúng ta đến cùng các ngươi, thì chúng ta sẽ đứng lại chỗ mình và không lên đến cùng chúng nó.

If they say on this wise to vs, Tarie vntill we come to you, then we will stand still in our place, and not goe vp to them.

10 Còn nếu chúng nó nói rằng: Hãy lên đến chúng ta; thì chúng ta sẽ lên; vì Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phó chúng nó vào tay chúng ta: điều đó sẽ dùng làm dấu hiệu cho chúng ta.

But if they say, Come vp vnto vs, then we will goe vp: for the Lord hath deliuered them into our hande: and this shall be a signe vnto vs.

11 Vậy hai người đều đi lên đồn Phi-li-tin. Dân Phi-li-tin nói: Kìa, những người Hê-bơ-rơ ra từ hang đá là nơi chúng nó ẩn trốn kia.

So they both shewed themselues vnto the garison of the Philistims: and the Philistims said, See, the Ebrewes come out of the holes wherein they had hid themselues.

12 Lính của đồn nói cùng Giô-na-than và kẻ vác binh khí mà rằng: Hãy đi đến chúng ta, chúng ta có chuyện tỏ cùng hai ngươi. Giô-na-than nói với kẻ vác binh khí mình rằng: Hãy theo ta, vì Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phó chúng nó vào tay Y-sơ-ra-ên.

And the men of the garison answered Ionathan, and his armour bearer, and said, Come vp to vs: for we will shewe you a thing. Then Ionathan said vnto his armour bearer, Come vp after me: for the Lord hath deliuered them into the hand of Israel.

13 Giô-na-than dùng tay và chơn leo lên, và kẻ cầm binh khí leo theo. Người Phi-li-tin ngã trước mặt Giô-na-than, và kẻ vác binh khí giết chúng nó chết ở đằng sau người.

So Ionathan went vp vpon his hands and vpon his feete, and his armour bearer after him: and some fell before Ionathan, and his armour bearer slewe others after him.

14 Trong trận thứ nhứt nầy, Giô-na-than và kẻ vác binh khí người giết chừng hai mươi người, trong một khoảng nửa công đất.

So the first slaughter which Ionathan and his armour bearer made, was about twentie men, as it were within halfe an acre of land which two oxen plowe.

15 Sự hãi hùng tràn ra trong trại quân, trong đồng, và trong cả dân Phi-li-tin. Quân đồn và đảng cướp giựt đều bị kinh khủng; đất bị rúng động; ấy như một sự kinh khiếp của Ðức Chúa Trời vậy.

And there was a feare in the hoste, and in the field, and among all the people: the garison also, and they that went out to spoyle, were afraid themselues: and the earth trembled: for it was striken with feare by God.

16 Lính canh của Sau-lơ ở tại Ghi-bê-a trong xứ Bên-gia-min, đều thấy quân chúng Phi-li-tin tản lạc và chạy trốn lộn xộn.

Then the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Beniamin sawe: and beholde, the multitude was discomfited, and smitten as they went.

17 Bấy giờ, Sau-lơ nói với quân lính ở cùng mình mà rằng: Hãy kiểm điểm xem ai là những người bỏ đã hàng ngũ chúng ta. Chúng kiểm điểm, thấy thiếu Giô-na-than và kẻ vác binh khí người.

Therefore saide Saul vnto the people that were with him, Search nowe and see, who is gone from vs. And when they had nombred, beholde, Ionathan and his armour bearer were not there.

18 Sau-lơ nói cùng A-hi-gia rằng: Hãy đem hòm của Ðức Chúa Trời đến gần (vì trong ngày đó hòm của Ðức Chúa Trời ở cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên).

And Saul said vnto Ahiah, Bring hither the Arke of God (for the Arke of God was at that time with the children of Israel)

19 Nhưng khi Sau-lơ nói với thầy tế lễ, thì tiếng ồn ào lại càng thêm lên trong trại quân Phi-li-tin. Sau-lơ nói cùng thầy tế lễ rằng: Hãy rút tay ngươi lại.

And while Saul talked vnto the Priest, the noyse that was in the hoste of the Philistims, spred farther abroade, and encreased: therefore Saul said vnto the Priest, Withdraw thine hand.

20 Ðoạn, Sau-lơ và hết thảy quân lính ở cùng người hiệp lại, đi tới chốn chiến trường, kìa thấy người Phi-li-tin rút gươm giết lẫn nhau, hỗn loạn cực điểm.

And Saul was assembled with all the people that were with him, and they came to the battell: and behold, euery mans sworde was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.

21 Những người Hê-bơ-rơ đã từ lâu phục dân Phi-li-tin và theo họ trong trại quân, nay trở lòng hiệp với Y-sơ-ra-ên vẫn theo cùng Sau-lơ và Giô-na-than.

Moreouer, the Ebrewes that were with the Philistims beforetime, and were come with them into all partes of the hoste, euen they also turned to be with the Israelites that were with Saul and Ionathan.

22 Lại khi hết thảy người Y-sơ-ra-ên đương ẩn trong núi Ép-ra-im, nghe dân Phi-li-tin chạy trốn, cũng rượt đuổi theo chúng nó mà đánh giặc.

Also all the men of Israel which had hid themselues in mount Ephraim, when they heard, that the Philistims were fled, they followed after them in the battell.

23 Ðức Giê-hô-va giải cứu Y-sơ-ra-ên trong ngày đó; cơn giặc tràn đến Bết-a-ven.

And so the Lord saued Israel that day: and the battell continued vnto Beth-auen.

24 Cũng trong ngày đó, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên bị mệt đuối. Vả lại, Sau-lơ có thề cùng dân sự rằng: Ðáng rủa sả người nào sẽ ăn vật thực gì trước khi chiều tối, tức trước khi ta báo thù những kẻ cừu địch ta! Vì vậy, cả dân sự đều cử không ăn vật thực gì hết.

And at that time the men of Israel were pressed with hunger: for Saul charged the people with an othe, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth foode till night, that I may be auenged of mine enemies: so none of the people tasted any sustenance.

25 Song chúng dân đã đến trong một cái rừng có mật ong trên mặt đất.

And all they of the land came to a wood, where hony lay vpon the ground.

26 Bấy giờ, dân sự đi vào trong rừng, thấy mật nầy chảy; chẳng ai dám chấm tay vào miệng, vì sợ lời thề.

And the people came into the wood, and beholde, the hony dropped, and no man mooued his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the othe.

27 Nhưng Giô-na-than không biết lời thề mà cha mình đã lập cùng dân sự, nên giơ đầu gậy mình cầm nơi tay chấm vào tàng mật ong, rồi lấy tay đem mật vào miệng, thì mắt người sáng ra.

But Ionathan heard not when his father charged the people with the othe: wherefore he put foorth the ende of the rod that was in his hand, and dipt it in an hony combe, and put his hand to his mouth, and his eyes receiued sight.

28 Có người trong dân chúng cất tiếng nói rằng: Cha ông có thề cùng dân chúng rằng: Ðáng rủa sả người nào ăn vật thực gì trong ngày nay. Vả, dân sự đều bị mệt đuối.

Then answered one of the people, and said, Thy father made the people to sweare, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth sustenance this day: and the people were faint.

29 Giô-na-than đáp rằng: Cha ta làm rối cho xứ, hãy xem mắt ta đã sáng dường nào, vì cớ nếm chút mật nầy!

Then said Ionathan, My father hath troubled the land: see nowe howe mine eyes are made cleare, because I haue tasted a litle of this honie:

30 Ồ! chớ chi ngày nay dân sự đã ăn vật chiếm được của thù nghịch, thì sự thua bại dân Phi-li-tin đã lớn hơn biết bao!

Howe much more, if the people had eaten to day of the spoyle of their enemies which they found? for had there not bene nowe a greater slaughter among the Philistims?

31 Vậy ngày đó, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đánh bại dân Phi-li-tin từ Mích-ma cho đến A-gia-lôn.

And they smote the Philistims that day, from Michmash to Aiialon: and the people were exceeding faint.

32 Dân sự bị mệt đuối lắm, bèn xông vào của cướp, bắt chiên, bò, bò con, giết đi trên đất, rồi ăn thịt lộn với huyết.

So the people turned to the spoile, and tooke sheepe, and oxen, and calues, and slewe them on the ground, and the people did eate them with the blood.

33 Có người đến nói cùng Sau-lơ rằng: Kìa, dân sự phạm tội cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va, mà ăn thịt lộn với huyết. Người đáp: Ấy là một sự lỗi đạo! Hãy lập tức lăn một hòn đá lớn đến gần ta.

Then men tolde Saul, saying, Beholde, the people sinne against the Lord, in that they eate with the blood. And he saide, Ye haue trespassed: roule a great stone vnto me this day.

34 Lại tiếp rằng: Hãy đi khắp cơ binh rao rằng mỗi người phải dẫn đến ta chiên và bò mình, và giết đi tại đây. Rồi các ngươi sẽ ăn thịt nó; như vậy các người không phạm tội cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va mà ăn thịt lộn với huyết. Thế thì, trong đêm đó, mỗi người trong chúng dẫn súc vật mình có dưới tay, và giết nó trên một hòn đá.

Againe Saul said, Goe abroade among the people, and bid them bring me euery man his oxe, and euery man his sheepe, and slay them here, and eate and sinne not against the Lord in eating with the blood. And ye people brought euery man his oxe in his hand that night, and slew them there.

35 Sau-lơ bèn lập một bàn thờ cho Ðức Giê-hô-va; ấy là bàn thờ thứ nhứt mà người lập cho Ðức Giê-hô-va.

Then Saul made an altar vnto the Lord, and that was the first altar that he made vnto the Lord.

36 Ðoạn, Sau-lơ nói: Chúng ta hãy đi xuống đuổi theo dân Phi-li-tin trong khi ban đêm, cướp phá chúng nó cho đến sáng sớm, và chớ để sống một ai. Chúng thưa rằng: Hãy làm mọi điều vua lấy làm phải. Thầy tế lễ bèn nói: Chúng ta hãy đến gần Ðức Chúa Trời.

And Saul saide, Let vs goe downe after the Philistims by night, and spoyle them vntill the morning shine, and let vs not leaue a man of them. And they saide, Doe whatsoeuer thou thinkest best. Then saide the Priest, Let vs drawe neere hither vnto God.

37 Sau-lơ cầu vấn Ðức Chúa Trời rằng: Tôi phải nên xuống đuổi theo dân Phi-li-tin chăng? Ngài sẽ phó chúng nó vào tay Y-sơ-ra-ên chăng? Song lần nầy Ðức Chúa Trời chẳng đáp lại lời gì hết.

So Saul asked of God, saying, Shall I goe downe after ye Philistims? wilt thou deliuer them into the hands of Israel? But he answered him not at that time.

38 Ðoạn, Sau-lơ bảo rằng: Hỡi các quan trưởng của dân sự, hết thảy hãy đến gần đây, xét tìm tội lỗi đã phạm trong ngày nay là sao.

And Saul said, All ye chiefe of the people, come ye hither, and knowe, and see by whom this sinne is done this day.

39 Ta chỉ Ðức Giê-hô-va hằng sống, là Ðấng giải cứu Y-sơ-ra-ên, mà thề rằng kẻ đã phạm tội, dẫu chính là Giô-na-than, con trai ta, cũng phải chết đi! Trong cả dân sự chẳng có ai đáp lời người.

For as the Lord liueth, which saueth Israel, though it be done by Ionathan my sonne, he shall dye the death. But none of all the people answered him.

40 Người bèn nói cùng cả Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Các ngươi hãy đứng bên này; ta và Giô-na-than, con trai ta, sẽ đứng bên kia. Dân sự thưa rằng: Hãy làm điều vua lấy làm phải.

Then he saide vnto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Ionathan my sonne will be on the other side. And the people saide vnto Saul, Doe what thou thinkest best.

41 Sau-lơ thưa cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va rằng: Ôi Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên! xin hãy tỏ ra sự thật. Giô-na-than và Sau-lơ bị chỉ ra, còn dân sự thì vô can.

Then Saul said vnto the Lord God of Israel, Giue a perfite lot. And Ionathan and Saul were taken, but the people escaped.

42 Sau-lơ nói: Hãy bắt thăm cho ta và Giô-na-than, con trai ta.

And Saul saide, Cast lot betweene me and Ionathan my sonne. And Ionathan was taken.

43 Giô-na-than bị chỉ ra. Sau-lơ nói cùng Giô-na-than rằng: Hãy tỏ cho ta biết điều ngươi đã làm. Giô-na-than thú thật rằng: Tôi có dùng đầu gậy tôi cầm nơi tay mà nếm chút mật ong; nầy tôi đây phải chết.

Then Saul said to Ionathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Ionathan tolde him, and said, I tasted a litle hony with the ende of the rod, that was in mine hand, and loe, I must die.

44 Sau-lơ nói: Hỡi Giô-na-than, nếu ngươi không chết, nguyện Ðức Giê-hô-va giáng họa rất nặng trên ta!

Againe Saul answered, God doe so and more also, vnlesse thou die the death, Ionathan.

45 Nhưng dân sự đáp cùng Sau-lơ rằng: Uûa! Giô-na-than là người đã làm cho Y-sơ-ra-ên được đại thắng dường kia, phải chết sao? Ðiều đó chẳng nên! Chúng tôi chỉ sanh mạng của Ðức Giê-hô-va mà thề rằng một sợi tóc trên đầu người sẽ chẳng rụng xuống đất; vì người ở cùng Ðức Chúa Trời mà được thắng ngày nay. Như vậy, dân sự giải cứu Giô-na-than, và người khỏi bị xử tử.

And the people said vnto Saul, Shall Ionathan die, who hath so mightily deliuered Israel? God forbid. As the Lord liueth, there shall not one heare of his head fall to the ground: for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people deliuered Ionathan that he dyed not.

46 Ðoạn, Sau-lơ trở về, chẳng đuổi theo dân Phi-li-tin nữa; và dân Phi-li-tin đều trở về trong xứ mình.

Then Saul came vp from the Philistims: and the Philistims went to their owne place.

47 Sau khi Sau-lơ đã cầm quyền nước Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì người giao chiến cùng kẻ thù nghịch mình tứ phía, tức cùng Mô-áp, Am-môn, Ê-đôm, các vua Xô-ba, và cùng dân Phi-li-tin; hễ người cử binh đến đâu, thì báo thù được đến đó.

So Saul helde the kingdome ouer Israel, and fought against all his enemies on euery side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the Kings of Zobah, and against the Philistims: and whithersoeuer he went, he handled them as wicked men.

48 Người tụ tập quân lính, đánh dân A-ma-léc, và giải cứu Y-sơ-ra-ên khỏi tay những kẻ cướp phá họ.

He gathered also an hoste and smote Amalek, and deliuered Israel out of the handes of them that spoyled them.

49 Các con trai của Sau-lơ là Giô-na-than, Gi-sê-vi, và Manh-ki-sua, người cũng có hai con gái; lớn, tên là Mê-ráp; nhỏ, tên là Mi-canh;

Nowe the sonnes of Saul were Ionathan, and Ishui, and Malchishua: and the names of his two daughters, the elder was called Merab, and the yonger was named Michal.

50 vợ Sau-lơ tên là A-hi-nô-am, con gái của A-hi-mát. Tổng binh của đạo binh người là Áp-ne, con trai của Nê-rơ, chú của Sau-lơ,

And the name of Sauls wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz: and the name of his chiefe captaine was Abner the sonne of Ner, Sauls vncle.

51 Kích, cha của Sau-lơ và Nê-rơ, cha của Áp-ne, là con trai của A-bi-ên.

And Kish was Sauls father: and Ner the father of Abner was the sonne of Abiel.

52 Trọn đời Sau-lơ có sự tranh chiến dữ dội cùng dân Phi-li-tin; hễ khi Sau-lơ thấy người mạnh mẽ và bạo dạn, thì chiêu mộ người theo mình.

And there was sore warre against the Philistims all the dayes of Saul: and whomsoeuer Saul sawe to be a strong man, and meete for the warre, he tooke him vnto him.
