Ru-tơ 1
1 Trong thời các phán quan, Ít-ra-ên gặp một nạn đói. Có một người ở Bết-lê-hem, xứ Giu-đa đem vợ và hai con trai đến kiều ngụ tại Mô-áp.
And it cometh to pass, in the days of the judging of the judges, that there is a famine in the land, and there goeth a man from Beth-Lehem-Judah to sojourn in the fields of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
2 Người ấy là Ê-li-mê-léc, có vợ là Na-ô-mi, hai con trai là Mạc-lôn và Ki-li-ôn thuộc về dân tộc Ê-phơ-rát, Bết-lê-hem, xứ Giu-đa.
And the name of the man [is] Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites from Beth-Lehem-Judah; and they come into the fields of Moab, and are there.
3 Ê-li-mê-léc qua đời để lại Na-ô-mi và hai con.
And Elimelech husband of Naomi dieth, and she is left, she and her two sons;
4 Hai người con lập gia đình với hai cô gái Mô-áp. Một cô tên là Ọt-ba, một cô là Ru-tơ. Sau chừng mười năm sống trong đất Mô-áp,
and they take to them wives, Moabitesses: the name of the one [is] Orpah, and the name of the second Ruth; and they dwell there about ten years.
5 Mạc-lôn và Ki-li-ôn cũng chết. Na-ô-mi ở lại không chồng không con.
And they die also, both of them — Mahlon and Chilion — and the woman is left of her two children and of her husband.
6 Na-ô-mi nghe tin Chúa Hằng Hữu ban phước cho dân Ngài tại Giu-đa và cho họ sống no đủ. Vậy Na-ô-mi cùng hai dâu chuẩn bị rời Mô-áp trở về quê hương của bà.
And she riseth, she and her daughters-in-law, and turneth back from the fields of Moab, for she hath heard in the fields of Moab that God hath looked after His people, — to give to them bread.
7 Từ nơi bà từng sống với hai con dâu, họ lên đường trở về Giu-đa.
And she goeth out from the place where she hath been, and her two daughters-in-law with her, and they go in the way to turn back unto the land of Judah.
8 Nhưng, Na-ô-mi nói với hai con dâu: “Các con nên quay về nhà mẹ mình thay vì đi với mẹ. Xin Chúa Hằng Hữu đối xử tốt với hai con như hai con đã hết lòng với chồng và với mẹ.
And Naomi saith to her two daughters-in-law, 'Go, turn back, each to the house of her mother; Jehovah doth with you kindness as ye have done with the dead, and with me;
9 Cầu xin Chúa Hằng Hữu ban phước lành cho hai con nơi nhà chồng mới và sống hạnh phúc.” Rồi bà hôn họ, họ khóc nức nở.
Jehovah doth grant to you, and find ye rest each in the house of her husband;' and she kisseth them, and they lift up their voice and weep.
10 Họ nói: “Không, chúng con muốn đi với mẹ đến dân tộc của mẹ.”
And they say to her, 'Surely with thee we go back to thy people.'
11 Nhưng Na-ô-mi đáp: “Các con về đi. Theo mẹ làm gì? Mẹ còn con trai nữa đâu để làm chồng hai con?
And Naomi saith, 'Turn back, my daughters; why do ye go with me? are there yet to me sons in my bowels that they have been to you for husbands?
12 Về đi, các con ơi! Mẹ quá già không lấy chồng được nữa. Nhưng cho dù mẹ còn tái giá được và sinh con trai
Turn back, my daughters, go, for I am too aged to be to a husband; though I had said, There is for me hope, also, I have been to-night to a husband, and also I have borne sons:
13 hai con có chờ được đến ngày con trai mẹ khôn lớn không? Không đâu, hai con ơi! Mẹ xót xa cho các con, vì mẹ bị Chúa Hằng Hữu trừng phạt mới nên nỗi này.”
for them do ye wait till that they grow up? for them do ye shut yourselves up, not to be to a husband? nay, my daughters, for more bitter to me than to you, for the hand of Jehovah hath gone out against me.'
14 Họ khóc lớn lên một lần nữa, rồi Ọt-ba hôn bà từ biệt. Còn Ru-tơ nhất định ở lại với Na-ô-mi.
And they lift up their voice, and weep again, and Orpah kisseth her mother-in-law, and Ruth hath cleaved to her.
15 Na-ô-mi lại nói: “Chị con đã trở về với dân tộc và với thần mình, con cũng nên theo chị con đi.”
And she saith, 'Lo, thy sister-in-law hath turned back unto her people, and unto her god, turn thou back after thy sister-in-law.'
16 Nhưng Ru-tơ đáp: “Xin đừng ép con lìa mẹ, vì mẹ đi đâu, con đi đó; mẹ ở nơi nào, con sẽ ở nơi đó; dân tộc của mẹ là dân tộc của con; Đức Chúa Trời của mẹ là Đức Chúa Trời của con;
And Ruth saith, 'Urge me not to leave thee — to turn back from after thee; for whither thou goest I go, and where thou lodgest I lodge; thy people [is] my people, and thy God my God.
17 nơi nào mẹ qua đời, con muốn được qua đời và chôn nơi ấy. Trừ cái chết ra, nếu con lìa bỏ mẹ vì bất cứ lý do nào, xin Chúa Hằng Hữu phạt con nặng nề.”
Where thou diest I die, and there I am buried; thus doth Jehovah to me, and thus doth He add — for death itself doth part between me and thee.'
18 Thấy Ru-tơ quyết tâm, Na-ô-mi thôi không ép nữa.
And she seeth that she is strengthening herself to go with her, and she ceaseth to speak unto her;
19 Hai mẹ con tiếp tục hành trình. Khi đến Bết-lê-hem, mọi người trong thành thấy đều động lòng thương. Các bà hỏi: “Có đúng là Na-ô-mi đó không?”
and they go both of them till their coming in to Beth-Lehem; and it cometh to pass at their coming in to Beth-Lehem, that all the city is moved at them, and they say, 'Is this Naomi?'
20 Bà đáp lời họ: “Xin đừng gọi tôi là Na-ô-mi nữa; hãy gọi tôi là Ma-ra thì đúng hơn, vì Đấng Toàn Năng đã xử tôi thật cay đắng.
And she saith unto them, 'Call me not Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly to me,
21 Tôi ra đi đầy đủ; nhưng Chúa Hằng Hữu đem tôi về tay không. Tại sao phải gọi tôi là Na-ô-mi khi Chúa Hằng Hữu đã làm tôi khốn khổ và Đấng Toàn Năng đã giáng họa trên tôi.”
I went out full, and empty hath Jehovah brought me back, why do ye call me Naomi, and Jehovah hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath done evil to me?'
22 Vậy, Na-ô-mi trở về từ Mô-áp, cùng dâu mình là Ru-tơ, một người nữ Mô-áp. Họ đến Bết-lê-hem đúng vào ngày đầu của mùa gặt lúa mạch.
And Naomi turneth back, and Ruth the Moabitess her daughter-in-law with her, who hath turned back from the fields of Moab, and they have come in to Beth-Lehem at the commencement of barley-harvest.
