Giô-sua 1
1 Sau khi Môi-se, đầy tớ của Chúa Hằng Hữu, qua đời, Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Giô-suê, con của Nun, người phụ tá của Môi-se:
And after the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, it happened that the Lord spoke to Joshua, the son of Nun, the minister of Moses, and he said to him:
2 “Môi-se, đầy tớ Ta đã chết; bây giờ con đứng ra lãnh đạo dân tộc vượt Sông Giô-đan tiến vào đất hứa.
“Moses, my servant, has died. Rise up, and cross this Jordan, you and all the people with you, into the land which I will give to the sons of Israel.
3 Như Ta đã hứa với Môi-se, nơi nào con đặt chân đến, nơi ấy sẽ thuộc về người Ít-ra-ên,
I will deliver to you every place that the step of your foot will tread upon, just as I said to Moses.
4 từ hoang mạc đến núi Li-ban, từ Biển Lớn chạy dài đến tận Sông Ơ-phơ-rát, kể cả lãnh thổ của dân tộc Hê-tít.
From the desert and from Lebanon, even to the great river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, as far as the great sea opposite the setting of the sun, shall be your border.
5 Suốt đời con, quân thù đều phải khuất phục. Như Ta đã từng ở với Môi-se, Ta cũng sẽ ở với con luôn, Ta sẽ không quên, và không lìa bỏ con đâu.
No one will be able to resist you during all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so will I be with you. I will not leave you, nor will I forsake you.
6 Hãy can đảm, và bền chí; con sẽ thành công trong việc lãnh đạo dân tộc Ít-ra-ên chinh phục vùng đất Ta đã hứa cho tổ tiên họ.
Be strengthened and be steadfast. For you shall divide by lot, to this people, the land about which I swore to their fathers that I would deliver it to them.
7 Chỉ cần can đảm và bền chí, nghiêm chỉnh tuân hành tất cả điều luật mà Môi-se, đầy tớ Ta truyền lại, không tẽ tách chút nào, thì con sẽ thành công trong mọi việc.
Therefore, be strengthened and be very steadfast, so that you may observe and accomplish the entire law, which Moses, my servant, instructed to you. You may not turn aside from it to the right, nor to the left. So may you understand all that you should do.
8 Đừng xao lãng việc đọc Sách Luật này. Phải ngày đêm suy niệm và thận trọng tuân hành. Như vậy con mới thành công và được phước.
The book of this law shall not depart from your mouth. Instead, you shall meditate upon it, day and night, so that you may observe and do all the things that are written in it. Then you shall direct your way and understand it.
9 Ta đã dạy con phải can đảm và bền chí, đừng sợ gì cả, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của con luôn luôn ở với con bất cứ nơi nào con đi.”
Behold, I am instructing you. Be strengthened, and be steadfast. Do not dread, and do not fear. For the Lord your God is with you in all things, wherever you may go.”
10 Sau đó Giô-suê ra lệnh cho các cấp lãnh đạo:
And Joshua instructed the leaders of the people, saying: “Cross through the midst of the camp, and command the people, and say:
11 “Hãy thông báo cho dân chúng chuẩn bị sẵn sàng! Trong ba ngày nữa chúng ta sẽ vượt Sông Giô-đan, tiến chiếm vùng đất Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta dành cho chúng ta.”
‘Prepare your food supplies. For after the third day, you shall cross the Jordan, and you shall enter so as to possess the land, which the Lord your God will give to you.’”
12 Riêng với người thuộc đại tộc Ru-bên, đại tộc Gát, và phân nửa đại tộc Ma-na-se, Giô-suê nhắc lại lời của Môi-se, đầy tớ Chúa:
Likewise, he said to the Reubenites and to the Gadites, and to the one half tribe of Manasseh:
13 “Chúa Hằng Hữu đã cho anh em được an nghỉ và cũng ban cho phần đất bên này sông.
“Remember the words, which Moses, the servant of the Lord, instructed to you, saying: ‘The Lord your God has given you rest, and has given you all the land.’
14 Vợ, con cái, và bầy súc vật của anh em sẽ ở lại trong đất mà Môi-se ban cho anh em ở bên này sông Giô-đan. Còn tất cả anh em là người dũng cảm, được trang bị đầy đủ phải tiên phong vượt sông, chiến đấu cùng với các đại tộc khác.
Your wives and sons, as well as the cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses delivered to you beyond the Jordan. But as for you, pass over with weapons, before your brothers, all you who are strong of hand, and fight on their behalf,
15 Anh em chỉ trở về đất mình ở bên bờ phía đông Sông Giô-đan do Môi-se, đầy tớ Chúa cấp cho, khi nào các đại tộc kia hoàn tất cuộc chiếm hữu đất đai.”
until the Lord gives rest to your brothers, just as he has given to you, and until they also possess the land, which the Lord your God will give to them. And so shall you be returned to the land of your possession. And you shall live in the land, which Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave to you beyond the Jordan, opposite the rising of the sun.”
16 Họ thưa với Giô-suê: “Chúng tôi xin tuân theo mọi điều ông dạy bảo, đi bất cứ nơi nào ông sai.
And they responded to Joshua, and they said: “All that you have instructed to us, we shall do. And wherever you will send us, we shall go.
17 Chúng tôi sẽ vâng lời ông như đã vâng lời Môi-se. Cầu xin Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của ông ở cùng ông như Ngài đã ở cùng Môi-se trước kia.
Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so shall we obey you also. But may the Lord your God be with you, just as he was with Moses.
18 Người nào cãi lệnh ông, người đó phải chết. Xin ông hãy can đảm và bền chí.”
Whoever will contradict your mouth, and whoever will not obey all of your words, which you will instruct to him, let him die. But may you be strengthened, and may you act manfully.”
