II Sa-mu-ên 19

1 Có người cho Giô-áp hay việc vua khóc than thương tiếc Áp-sa-lôm.

And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.

2 Hôm ấy ngày vui mừng chiến thắng trở thành ngày quốc tang, khi dân chúng nghe tin vua đau đớn vì cái chết của Hoàng tử Áp-sa-lôm.

And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that day, The king grieveth for his son.

3 Quân sĩ trở vào thành lén lút như một đoàn quân bại trận nhục nhã trở về.

And the people gat them by stealth that day into the city, as people that are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

4 Vua che mặt, lớn tiếng khóc than: “Áp-sa-lôm, con ơi! Áp-sa-lôm ơi! Con ơi! Con ta ơi!”

And the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!

5 Giô-áp vào cung, nói với vua: “Hôm nay vua làm hổ mặt bầy tôi vua, những người vừa cứu mạng vua và mạng các hoàng tử, công chúa, hoàng hậu, và cung phi.

And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants, which this day have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines;

6 Hóa ra vua thương người ghét mình và ghét người thương mình. Hôm nay vua tỏ cho mọi người thấy rằng tướng sĩ đối với vua không giá trị gì cả. Và bây giờ tôi biết được rằng nếu Áp-sa-lôm còn sống và tất cả chúng tôi đều chết, thì chắc vua hài lòng lắm.

in that thou lovest them that hate thee, and hatest them that love thee. For thou hast declared this day, that princes and servants are nought unto thee: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.

7 Thôi, xin vua đứng dậy, đi ra nói vài lời vỗ về quân sĩ; nếu không, tôi thề có Chúa Hằng Hữu, không một ai ở lại với vua nội trong đêm nay; và như thế, đây là tai họa lớn nhất vua chưa từng gặp từ thuở niên thiếu đến bây giờ.”

Now therefore arise, go forth and speak comfortably unto thy servants: for I swear by the LORD, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry a man with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that hath befallen thee from thy youth until now.

8 Vua đứng dậy, ra ngồi ở cổng thành. Khi dân nghe tin này, liền kéo nhau đến với vua. Quân Ít-ra-ên đã thua trận, ai về nhà nấy.

Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king doth sit in the gate: and all the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.

9 Bây giờ, trong các đại tộc Ít-ra-ên, người ta bàn luận sôi nổi về việc rước Vua Đa-vít về kinh đô, vì vua đã cứu nước khỏi thế lực quân thù, khỏi ách người Phi-li-tin.

And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land from Absalom.

10 Còn Áp-sa-lôm, người vừa được dân chọn làm vua và vì việc này Đa-vít phải bỏ chạy, nay đã tử trận.

And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?

11 Được tin này Đa-vít cử hai Thầy Tế lễ Xa-đốc và A-bia-tha đi nói với các trưởng lão đại tộc Giu-đa: “Các đại tộc Ít-ra-ên đều tỏ ý muốn đón vua về. Tại sao Giu-đa là đại tộc chót ủng hộ việc này?

And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, [to bring him] to his house.

12 Anh em là máu mủ ruột thịt của vua, không nên chậm trễ như thế.”

Ye are my brethren, ye are my bone and my flesh: wherefore then are ye the last to bring back the king?

13 Họ cũng nói với A-ma-sa: “Ông là cốt nhục của vua. Vua thề sẽ cử ông làm tổng tư lệnh thay thế Giô-áp.”

And say ye to Amasa, Art thou not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.

14 Và như vậy, Đa-vít được lòng người Giu-đa. Họ đồng lòng cử đại diện đi đón vua và bầy tôi của vua về.

And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as [the heart of] one man; so that they sent unto the king, [saying], Return thou, and all thy servants.

15 Trên đường trở về, khi đến Sông Giô-đan, người Giu-đa kéo đến Ghinh-ganh nghênh đón và hộ tống vua sang sông.

So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over Jordan.

16 Si-mê-i con Ghê-ra, người Bên-gia-min, ở Ba-hu-rim vội vàng chạy theo người Giu-đa để đón Vua Đa-vít.

And Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, which was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.

17 Cùng đi với người này có cả nghìn người Bên-gia-min. Cũng có Di-ba, đầy tớ của nhà Sau-lơ, dẫn theo mười lăm con trai và hai mươi đầy tớ, vội vàng đến sông Giô-đan trước khi vua tới.

And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went through Jordan in the presence of the king.

18 Họ lội qua khúc sông cạn để giúp người nhà Đa-vít sang sông Giô-đan và để làm bất kỳ việc gì vua cần. Khi vua sắp sang sông, Si-mê-i phủ phục trước mặt Đa-vít.

And there went over a ferry boat to bring over the king’s household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, when he was come over Jordan.

19 Ông tâu rằng: “Xin vua xá tội cho tôi. Xin bỏ qua lỗi lầm tôi phạm khi vua rời Giê-ru-sa-lem ngày nọ, đừng nhớ đến nữa.

And he said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

20 Vì biết mình có tội, nên hôm nay tôi mới đến đây trước mọi người khác trong đại tộc Giô-sép để nghênh đón vua.”

For thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come this day the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.

21 A-bi-sai, con Xê-ru-gia, hỏi: “Si-mê-i đã nguyền rủa người được Chúa Hằng Hữu xức dầu, không đáng tội chết hay sao?”

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD’S anointed?

22 Nhưng Đa-vít đáp: “Con trai Xê-ru-gia ơi! Việc gì đến ông? Sao ông lại xung khắc với tôi hôm nay là ngày tôi khôi phục ngôi nước Ít-ra-ên? Trong một ngày như thế này, không một người nào trong nước phải bị xử tử cả.”

And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?

23 Quay sang Si-mê-i, vua thề: “Ngươi không chết đâu.”

And the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him.

24 Mê-phi-bô-sết, cháu Sau-lơ cũng đến đón vua. Ông không cắt móng chân cũng không tỉa râu, hay giặt áo, từ ngày vua ra đi đến ngày vua trở về bình an.

And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace.

25 Khi ông đi từ thành Giê-ru-sa-lem đến đón vua, vua hỏi Mê-phi-bô-sết: “Tại sao anh không đi với ta?”

And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?

26 Ông đáp: “Tôi bị người đầy tớ đánh lừa. Tôi có bảo nó: ‘Thắng lừa để ta đi theo vua,’ vì tôi què.

And he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for thy servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go with the king; because thy servant is lame.

27 Nhưng nó lại đi vu cáo tôi với vua. Tuy nhiên, vua như thiên sứ của Đức Chúa Trời, nên xin cứ xử tôi cách nào vua cho là phải.

And he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes.

28 Vì số phận của đại gia đình tôi đáng lẽ chết cả, thế mà vua cho tôi ngồi ăn chung bàn, vậy tôi còn gì để phàn nàn nữa?”

For all my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should cry any more unto the king?

29 Vua trả lời: “Thôi, nói đến việc này nữa làm gì, vì ta đã quyết định cho anh với Di-ba chia nhau đất đai.”

And the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I say, Thou and Ziba divide the land.

30 Nhưng Mê-phi-bô-sết nói: “Cho Di-ba tất cả đi, vì vua trở về bình an là quý rồi.”

And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come in peace unto his own house:

31 Bát-xi-lai, người Ga-la-át, cũng từ Rô-ghê-lim đến, tiễn vua qua sông Giô-đan.

And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan.

32 Ông ta là người đã cung cấp thực phẩm cho Đa-vít khi vua còn ở Ma-ha-na-im. Bát-xi-lai rất giàu và nay đã tám mươi tuổi.

Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king with sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.

33 Vua đề nghị với Bát-xi-lai: “Ông về Giê-ru-sa-lem với ta, ta sẽ săn sóc ông.”

And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will sustain thee with me in Jerusalem.

34 Bát-xi-lai đáp: “Tôi còn sống bao lâu mà lên Giê-ru-sa-lem với vua?

And Barzillai said unto the king, How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?

35 Nay tôi đã tám mươi tuổi, đâu còn biết thưởng thức rượu ngon vật lạ hay giọng ca trầm bổng? Thế thì tôi còn ăn hại của vua làm gì?

I am this day fourscore years old: can I discern between good and bad? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?

36 Tôi chỉ cần được đi với vua qua sông Giô-đan, thế thôi. Còn chuyện đền đáp ân thưởng xin đừng nói đến làm gì!

Thy servant would but just go over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?

37 Tôi xin phép được về để chết trong thành mình, bên mộ của cha mẹ mình. Tuy nhiên có Kim-ham đây, xin cho nó theo vua, và vua đãi nó thế nào tùy ý.”

Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.

38 Vua đáp: “Được, Kim-ham đi với ta. Ta sẽ đãi Kim-ham theo ý ông muốn. Ngoài ra, ông muốn ta giúp gì, ta cũng sẵn sàng.”

And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.

39 Vậy, vua và mọi người qua sông Giô-đan. Vua hôn và chúc phước lành cho Bát-xi-lai. Ông quay lại trở về nhà mình.

And all the people went over Jordan, and the king went over: and the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.

40 Vua tiếp tục đi tới Ghinh-ganh, đem Kim-ham theo. Cả đại tộc Giu-đa và phân nửa các đại tộc Ít-ra-ên tham dự việc rước vua về.

So the king went over to Gilgal, and Chimham went over with him: and all the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.

41 Người Ít-ra-ên phàn nàn với vua: “Tại sao anh em người Giu-đa chỉ muốn làm một mình việc rước đón vua và mọi người sang sông Giô-đan?”

And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king; and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and brought the king, and his household, over Jordan, and all David’s men with him?

42 Nhưng người Giu-đa đáp: “Vì vua là người đồng tộc với chúng tôi. Tại sao anh em bất bình? Vua có cho chúng tôi ăn gì hoặc quà cáp gì cho chúng tôi đâu?”

And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then be ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king’s cost? or hath he given us any gift?

43 Người Ít-ra-ên đáp lời người Giu-đa: “Chúng tôi có đến mười đại tộc, tức có hơn anh em nhiều. Vậy sao anh em coi thường chúng tôi? Không phải chính chúng tôi nói đến việc đón vua về trước tiên sao?” Lời qua tiếng lại và người Giu-đa còn nặng lời hơn người Ít-ra-ên.

And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king; and we have also more [right] in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
