II Sử Ký 20
1 Sau đó, người Mô-áp và người Am-môn kéo một số dân tộc khác đem quân tấn công Giô-sa-phát.
It came to pass after this also, [that] the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them [other] beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
2 Có người đến tâu với vua Giô-sa-phát rằng: “Có một quân đội rất đông từ bên kia Biển Chết và A-ram kéo đến tấn công. Đạo quân tiền phong đã đến Ha-xa-xôn Tha-ma.” (Tức là Ên-ghê-đi.)
Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they [be] in Hazazon-tamar, which [is] En-gedi.
3 Giô-sa-phát sợ hãi về tin này nên cầu khẩn Chúa Hằng Hữu. Ông còn ra lệnh cho toàn dân trong nước Giu-đa phải kiêng ăn.
And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
4 Toàn dân từ khắp các thành xứ Giu-đa đều tụ tập về Giê-ru-sa-lem để cầu hỏi Chúa Hằng Hữu.
And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask [help] of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.
5 Giô-sa-phát đứng trước hội chúng Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem trong Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu trước sân mới.
And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,
6 Ông cầu nguyện: “Lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ chúng con, chỉ mình Ngài là Đức Chúa Trời của cả vũ trụ. Chúa tể trị tất cả vương quốc trên đất. Tay Chúa đầy sức mạnh và năng lực; không ai chống cự nổi!
And said, O LORD God of our fathers, [art] not thou God in heaven? and rulest [not] thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand [is there not] power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?
7 Lạy Đức Chúa Trời chúng con, không phải Chúa đã tống đuổi dân cư xứ này trước mặt Ít-ra-ên là dân Chúa sao? Và không phải Ngài đã ban đất nước này vĩnh viễn cho dòng dõi Áp-ra-ham, người được Chúa xem như bạn sao?
[Art] not thou our God, [who] didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
8 Dân Chúa đã định cư tại đây và xây cất một Đền Thờ cho Danh Chúa.
And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,
9 Họ nói: ‘Nếu tai họa đổ trên chúng con, hoặc chiến tranh, đoán phạt, dịch lệ hoặc đói kém, chúng con sẽ đứng trước Đền Thờ này và trước mặt Chúa vì Danh Chúa ở trong Đền Thờ—chúng con sẽ kêu cứu với Chúa trong cơn gian truân, thì Chúa sẽ nghe và cứu giúp chúng con.’
If, [when] evil cometh upon us, [as] the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name [is] in this house, ) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.
10 Kìa, ngày nay, xin xem quân Am-môn, Mô-áp, và Sê-i-rơ đang làm gì. Ngài không cho tổ phụ chúng con đi vào xứ đó khi người Ít-ra-ên rời khỏi Ai Cập, vậy họ đi vòng đường khác và không tiêu diệt các dân ấy.
And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;
11 Bây giờ, xin hãy xem họ báo ơn chúng con!
Behold, [I say, how] they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.
12 Ôi, lạy Đức Chúa Trời của chúng con, Chúa không đoán phạt họ sao? Vì chúng con không có năng lực nào chống cự đoàn dân rất đông đảo này. Chúng con cũng không biết phải làm gì, nhưng chúng con đều hướng về Chúa!”
O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes [are] upon thee.
13 Toàn thể người Giu-đa đều đứng trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu, với vợ và con, kể cả các ấu nhi.
And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
14 Lúc ấy, giữa hội chúng, Thần của Chúa Hằng Hữu ngự xuống trên Gia-ha-xi-ên, con Xa-cha-ri, cháu Bê-na-gia, chắt Giê-i-ên, chít Mát-ta-nia, người Lê-vi, thuộc tộc A-sáp.
Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;
15 Ông nói: “Toàn dân Giu-đa, Giê-ru-sa-lem, và Vua Giô-sa-phát, hãy nghe! Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo các ngươi: Đừng khiếp sợ trước đoàn quân đông đảo này, vì đây là cuộc chiến tranh của Đức Chúa Trời, không phải của các ngươi.
And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle [is] not yours, but God’s.
16 Ngày mai, các ngươi hãy kéo quân xuống, vì địch sẽ tiến quân lên dốc Xích. Các ngươi sẽ gặp địch ở cuối thung lũng và đầu hoang mạc Giê-ru-ên.
To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
17 Trong trận này, các ngươi không phải đánh gì cả, chỉ đóng quân và đứng xem sự giải cứu của Chúa Hằng Hữu. Toàn dân Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem, đừng sợ sệt, kinh hãi! Ngày mai, hãy xuất quân, Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ ở với các ngươi!”
Ye shall not [need] to fight in this [battle: ] set yourselves, stand ye [still], and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD [will be] with you.
18 Rồi Vua Giô-sa-phát cúi mặt xuống đất. Toàn dân Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem cũng phủ phục trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu.
And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with [his] face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.
19 Người Lê-vi thuộc tộc Kê-hát và Cô-rê đều nhất loạt đứng dậy, và lớn tiếng hát vang ca ngợi Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên.
And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.
20 Sáng sớm hôm sau, quân đội Giu-đa tiến vào hoang mạc Thê-cô-a. Khi xuất quân, Vua Giô-sa-phát đứng điểm binh và kêu gọi: “Hãy lắng nghe! Hỡi toàn dân Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem! Hãy tin cậy Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời các ngươi, thì các ngươi sẽ đứng vững. Hãy tin các tiên tri Ngài, thì các ngươi sẽ thành công.”
And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
21 Vua tham khảo ý kiến toàn dân và cử các ca sĩ đi trước quân đội, hát mừng ca ngợi Chúa Hằng Hữu, là Đấng vinh quang thánh khiết. Họ ca hát vang lừng: “Hãy cảm tạ Chúa Hằng Hữu; vì sự thương xót của Ngài còn đời đời!”
And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy [endureth] for ever.
22 Ngay khi họ bắt đầu hát vang ca ngợi, Chúa Hằng Hữu khiến quân Am-môn, Mô-áp, và Sê-i-rơ tự đánh lẫn nhau.
And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
23 Quân Am-môn và quân Mô-áp trở mặt tấn công quân Sê-i-rơ. Sau khi tiêu diệt quân Sê-i-rơ, họ bắt đầu đánh lẫn nhau.
For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy [them: ] and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.
24 Khi quân đội Giu-đa tiến đến tháp canh trong hoang mạc, nhìn về phía địch thấy vô số xác chết nằm la liệt khắp mặt đất. Không một người sống sót.
And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they [were] dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
25 Vua Giô-sa-phát và toàn dân tiến quân vào thu chiến lợi phẩm. Họ tìm thấy rất nhiều bảo vật và đồ trang sức trên xác quân địch. Họ lấy cho đến khi không còn mang nổi nữa. Số chiến lợi phẩm nhiều đến nỗi phải mất ba ngày họ mới thu lượm hết!
And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.
26 Ngày thứ tư, họ tập họp tại Thung lũng Bê-ra-ca (tức Phước Lành) để ngợi tôn và cảm tạ Chúa Hằng Hữu. Vì vậy, nơi đó được gọi là Bê-ra-ca cho đến ngày nay.
And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.
27 Sau đó họ kéo quân về Giê-ru-sa-lem, Giô-sa-phát dẫn đầu toàn dân với niềm vui vì Chúa Hằng Hữu đã cho họ chiến thắng kẻ thù.
Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.
28 Họ diễn binh qua cổng thành Giê-ru-sa-lem trong tiếng đàn hạc, đàn cầm, và kèn trận, và họ lên Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu.
And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.
29 Khi được nghe về cuộc chiến của chính Chúa Hằng Hữu với các dân thù nghịch Ít-ra-ên, dân các vương quốc lân bang đều kính sợ Đức Chúa Trời.
And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of [those] countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.
30 Vậy, vương quốc của Giô-sa-phát được hưởng thái bình vì Đức Chúa Trời của vua cho toàn dân an cư lạc nghiệp.
So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.
31 Giô-sa-phát được ba mươi lăm tuổi khi lên ngôi, và trị vì nước Giu-đa hai mươi lăm năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Vua là con bà A-xu-ba, con gái của Si-chi.
And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: [he was] thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name [was] Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
32 Giô-sa-phát là một vua tốt, đi đúng đường lối của A-sa, cha mình. Ông làm điều công chính trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu.
And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing [that which was] right in the sight of the LORD.
33 Trong thời trị vì của mình, vua không phá vỡ các miếu tà thần và toàn dân chưa quyết tâm đi theo Đức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ họ.
Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
34 Các việc khác của Vua Giô-sa-phát, từ đầu đến cuối, đều ghi chép trong Ký Lục của Giê-hu, Con Ha-na-ni, được trích dẫn trong Sách Các Vua Ít-ra-ên.
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they [are] written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who [is] mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.
35 Sau đó, Giô-sa-phát, vua Giu-đa liên kết với A-cha-xia, vua Ít-ra-ên là một người gian ác.
And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:
36 Hai vua hợp tác đóng tàu tại Ê-xi-ôn Ghê-be để đi Ta-rê-si tìm vàng.
And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Ezion-geber.
37 Ê-li-ê-se, con Đô-đa-va ở Ma-rê-sa, nói tiên tri lên án Giô-sa-phát: “Vì vua hợp tác với Vua A-cha-xia, Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ hủy phá các công việc của vua.” Vì vậy, các chiếc tàu đều vỡ nát và không bao giờ đến được Ta-rê-si.
Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
