I Các Vua 20
1 Bên Ha-đát, vua A-ram, huy động quân lực, liên kết với ba mươi hai vua khác, đem theo vô số chiến xa và kỵ mã, đi vây đánh Sa-ma-ri.
And Benhadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together: and there were thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.
2 Vua Bên Ha-đát sai sứ giả vào thành nói với A-háp, vua Ít-ra-ên, như sau:
And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said unto him, Thus says Benhadad,
3 “Vàng bạc của vua nay thuộc về ta, cả những người vợ và con giỏi nhất của vua cũng thuộc về ta!”
Your silver and your gold is mine; your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.
4 A-háp đáp: “Vua chúa tôi ơi! Đúng thế. Tôi và những gì của tôi đều thuộc về vua cả.”
And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to your saying, I am yours, and all that I have.
5 Bên Ha-đát lại sai sứ giả đến nói: “Ngoài vàng, bạc, vợ và con như ta đã nói,
And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaks Benhadad, saying, Although I have sent unto you, saying, You shall deliver me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children;
6 ngày mai vào giờ này, ta sẽ sai người đến xét cung vua và nhà dân, họ sẽ lấy bất kỳ vật gì họ thích.”
Yet I will send my servants unto you tomorrow about this time, and they shall search your house, and the houses of your servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in your eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.
7 Vua Ít-ra-ên triệu tập các trưởng lão trong nước lại và nói: “Các ông xem, người này thật tình muốn gây rối. Người ấy đã đòi vợ con, vàng bạc của ta, ta có từ chối gì đâu.”
Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeks mischief: for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.
8 Các trưởng lão và mọi người ở đó đồng tình đáp: “Vua đừng nhượng bộ.”
And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Hearken not unto him, nor consent.
9 Nghe thế, A-háp nói với sứ giả của Bên Ha-đát: “Tâu với vua chúa tôi rằng tất cả điều vua đòi hỏi lần trước, tôi xin làm theo, còn về điều sau này, tôi không làm được.” Sứ giả trở về phúc trình cho Bên Ha-đát.
Wherefore he said unto the messengers of Benhadad, Tell my lord the king, All that you did send in order to your servant at the first I will do: but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
10 Bên Ha-đát lại sai sứ giả nói với A-háp: “Xin các thần trừng phạt ta, nếu bụi đất còn lại tại Sa-ma-ri đủ lấp đầy bàn tay của chiến binh theo ta.”
And Benhadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.
11 Vua Ít-ra-ên đáp: “Người mặc áo giáp đừng vội khoe mình như người cởi áo ra.”
And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girds on his harness boast himself as he that puts it off.
12 Bên Ha-đát đang uống rượu với các vua trong trại, vừa nghe được những lời này, liền ra lệnh: “Chuẩn bị tấn công.” Họ liền chuẩn bị tấn công thành.
And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, that he said unto his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.
13 Lúc ấy, có một tiên tri đến gặp A-háp, vua Ít-ra-ên, và nói: “Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: Ngươi có thấy đạo quân đông đảo ấy không? Hôm nay Ta sẽ ban nó vào tay ngươi. Rồi ngươi sẽ biết Ta là Chúa Hằng Hữu.”
And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus says the LORD, Have you seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into your hand this day; and you shall know that I am the LORD.
14 A-háp hỏi: “Chúa sẽ làm thế nào?” Tiên tri đáp: “Đây là lời của Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: Thuộc hạ của các quan đầu tỉnh sẽ làm việc đó.” A-háp lại hỏi: “Có phải chúng ta sẽ tấn công trước?” Tiên tri đáp: “Đúng vậy.”
And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus says the LORD, Even by the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall order the battle? And he answered, You.
15 Vậy A-háp huy động thuộc hạ của các quan đầu tỉnh, chỉ được 232 người. Đi sau các người này có 7.000 quân tuyển chọn trong toàn dân Ít-ra-ên.
Then he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.
16 Giữa trưa, khi Bên Ha-đát và ba mươi hai vua đang uống rượu say trong trại, Ít-ra-ên kéo quân ra,
And they went out at noon. But Benhadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.
17 thuộc hạ của các quan đầu tỉnh đi trước. Đội do thám của Bên Ha-đát thấy được, trình báo: “Có người từ Sa-ma-ri kéo ra.”
And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Benhadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
18 Bên Ha-đát ra lệnh: “Bắt sống tất cả cho ta, dù chúng nó đầu hàng hay chống cự cũng bắt hết.”
And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.
19 Vừa lúc ấy quân sĩ theo sau thuộc hạ các quan đầu tỉnh kéo đến.
So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.
20 Ai nấy thẳng tay chém giết địch quân. Quân A-ram bỏ chạy, và quân Ít-ra-ên đuổi theo. Vua Bên Ha-đát lên ngựa chạy thoát với một đám kỵ binh.
And they slew every one his man: and the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: and Benhadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse with the horsemen.
21 Vua Ít-ra-ên kéo quân tiêu diệt rất nhiều chiến xa và chiến mã cùng vô số quân A-ram.
And the king of Israel went out, and stroke the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.
22 Tiên tri đến gần A-háp và nói: “Vua phải chuẩn bị sẵn sàng cho cuộc tấn công lần thứ hai của địch quân, vì mùa xuân sang năm, vua A-ram lại kéo quân đến.”
And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do: for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against you.
23 Các thuộc hạ của vua A-ram bàn kế với chủ: “Sở dĩ Ít-ra-ên thắng trận vì thần của họ là thần núi. Nếu đánh họ dưới đồng bằng, ta sẽ thắng.
And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
24 Lần này ta sẽ dùng các tướng thay thế các vua.
And do this thing, Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their rooms:
25 Tuyển mộ một đạo quân như đạo quân vua đã mất, số chiến xa và kỵ mã cũng bằng lần trước. Chỉ có điều lần này ta sẽ đánh họ trong đồng bằng, chắc chắn ta sẽ thắng.” Vua A-ram làm theo lời họ bàn.
And number you an army, like the army that you have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot: and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened unto their voice, and did so.
26 Mùa xuân năm sau, Bên Ha-đát điểm quân A-ram và kéo đến tấn công Ít-ra-ên tại A-phéc
And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Benhadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
27 Ít-ra-ên cũng tập họp quân sĩ, chuẩn bị lương thực, và kéo ra nghênh chiến. Quân Ít-ra-ên đóng quân đối diện với địch, giống như hai đàn dê nhỏ trước đạo quân A-ram đông như kiến.
And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.
28 Người của Đức Chúa Trời đến và truyền cho Ít-ra-ên lời Chúa: “Vì người A-ram nói: ‘Chúa Hằng Hữu là thần núi chứ không phải thần thung lũng, nên Ta sẽ ban đạo quân đông đảo này vào tay ngươi để ngươi biết Ta là Chúa Hằng Hữu.’”
And there came a man of God, and spoke unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus says the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and all of you shall know that I am the LORD.
29 Hai bên đóng quân đối nhau như vậy trong bảy ngày, và đến ngày thứ bảy, trận chiến khởi sự. Trong một ngày, quân Ít-ra-ên giết 100.000 người A-ram.
And they pitched one opposite to the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.
30 Tàn quân A-ram chạy vào thành A-phéc, nhưng tường thành đổ xuống, đè bẹp 27.000 người. Bên Ha-đát cũng chạy vào thành, trốn trong một phòng kín.
But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Benhadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.
31 Các thuộc hạ tâu: “Nghe nói các vua Ít-ra-ên vốn nhân từ, vì vậy, xin cho chúng tôi thắt bao bố vào lưng, quấn dây thừng trên đầu, ra xin vua Ít-ra-ên tha cho vua.”
And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray you, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: possibly he will save your life.
32 Sau đó, họ thắt bao bố, quấn dây thừng, và đến tâu với vua Ít-ra-ên: “Đầy tớ vua là Bên Ha-đát cầu xin vua tha mạng cho!” A-háp hỏi: “Người còn sống à? Người là em ta đấy!”
So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Your servant Benhadad says, I pray you, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
33 Những người ấy cho đó là dấu hiệu tốt đẹp nên vội vàng đáp: “Bên Ha-đát đúng là em vua.” A-háp bảo: “Đem người đến đây.” Khi Bên Ha-đát đến, A-háp mời lên ngồi xe với mình.
Now the men did diligently observe whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Your brother Benhadad. Then he said, Go all of you, bring him. Then Benhadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
34 Bên Ha-đát thương lượng: “Tôi xin hoàn trả các thành cha tôi đã chiếm của cha vua. Ngoài ra, vua có thể lập thành nơi giao thương tại Đa-mách, như cha tôi đã làm tại Sa-ma-ri.” A-háp đáp: “Ta chấp thuận các đề nghị này và bằng lòng tha vua.” Thế rồi họ kết ước với nhau và Bên Ha-đát được tha về.
And Ben-hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from your father, I will restore; and you shall make streets for you in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send you away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.
35 Lúc đó trong số các tiên tri, có một người vâng lệnh Chúa Hằng Hữu nói với bạn mình: “Hãy đánh tôi đi!” Người kia không chịu đánh.
And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour in the word of the LORD, Strike me, I pray you. And the man refused to strike him.
36 Tiên tri nói với bạn: “Vì không nghe lời Chúa Hằng Hữu, anh sẽ bị sư tử giết ngay sau khi anh rời khỏi tôi.” Khi người bạn rời vị tiên tri thì bị một con sư tử tấn công và giết.
Then said he unto him, Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, behold, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall slay you. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and slew him.
37 Rồi tiên tri lại nói với người khác: “Hãy đánh tôi đi!” Người này đánh tiên tri bị thương.
Then he found another man, and said, Strike me, I pray you. And the man stroke him, so that in smiting he wounded him.
38 Tiên tri lấy vải che mặt, giả dạng, đứng bên đường chờ vua đi qua.
So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.
39 Khi vua đi qua, tiên tri nói lớn tiếng cho vua nghe: “Lúc tôi ở trong chiến trận, có một người lính giao cho tôi giữ một tù binh và dặn: ‘Giữ người này. Nếu để cho nó chạy thoát, anh phải đền mạng hay thường năm lượng vàng.’
And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall your life be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.
40 Tôi bận công việc, nên để tên tù chạy mất.” Vua Ít-ra-ên nói: “Tội ngươi đã quá rõ rệt, tự ngươi lên án ngươi đó thôi!”
And as your servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall your judgment be; yourself have decided it.
41 Tiên tri vội kéo vải che mặt xuống. Vua Ít-ra-ên nhận ra đó là một trong các tiên tri.
And he hasted, and took the ashes away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.
42 Tiên tri nói tiếp: “Chúa Hằng Hữu phán: ‘Vì ngươi tha một kẻ Ta định cho chết, nên mạng ngươi phải đền mạng nó, dân ngươi chịu số phận dân nó.’”
And he said unto him, Thus says the LORD, Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.
43 Vua Ít-ra-ên về Sa-ma-ri, vừa giận, vừa buồn.
And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
