1 Nữ hoàng nước Sê-ba nghe Sa-lô-môn được Chúa Hằng Hữu ban cho khôn ngoan và nhiều phước lành, nên đến Giê-ru-sa-lem để thử tài Sa-lô-môn bằng những câu hỏi khúc mắc.
When the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to prove him with hard questions.
2 Bà đến Giê-ru-sa-lem với một đoàn tùy tùng đông đảo, có nhiều lạc đà chở hương liệu và một số lượng rất lớn vàng cùng đá quý. Bà đến gặp vua Sa-lô-môn và nói với vua tất cả những gì bà suy nghĩ trong lòng.
She came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bore spices, and very much gold, and precious stones; and when she had come to Solomon, she talked with him of all that was in her heart.
3 Sa-lô-môn giải đáp tất cả những câu hỏi của bà; chẳng câu nào quá ẩn bí đối với vua.
Solomon told her all her questions: there was not anything hidden from the king which he did not tell her.
4 Khi thấy sự khôn ngoan của Sa-lô-môn, cùng thấy cung điện vua xây,
When the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built,
5 cao lương mỹ vị trên bàn vua, người hầu bàn, cách họ ăn mặc, các triều thần, và các lễ thiêu vua dâng trong Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu, nữ hoàng vô cùng sửng sốt.
and the food of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their clothing, and his cup bearers, and his burnt offerings which he presented at the house of the LORD; it left her breathless.
6 Bà nói với vua: “Tất cả những điều tôi nghe trong nước tôi về sự khôn ngoan và công việc vua làm đều đúng cả!
She said to the king, "It was a true report that I heard in my own land of your acts, and of your wisdom.
7 Nhưng tôi không tin cho đến khi tôi đến đây và thấy tận mắt. Đúng ra, tôi chỉ mới nghe có phân nửa. Sự khôn ngoan và giàu có của vua còn hơn xa những điều tôi nghe.
However I did not believe the words, until I came, and my eyes had seen it. Look, the half was not told me. Your wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame which I heard.
8 Dân của vua có phước thật; đầy tớ của vua cũng có phước lắm, vì hằng ngày họ được đứng đây để nghe những lời khôn sáng của vua.
Happy are your wives, happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you, who hear your wisdom.
9 Ngợi khen Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của vua, vì Ngài hài lòng đặt vua lên ngôi Ít-ra-ên. Chúa Hằng Hữu luôn thương yêu Ít-ra-ên, nên mới đặt vua cai trị họ và xét xử họ cách công minh.”
Blessed is the LORD your God, who delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israel. Because of the LORD's everlasting love for Israel, therefore he made you king, to do justice and righteousness."
10 Kế đó, bà tặng vua gần 4 tấn vàng, cùng vô số ngọc ngà, và hương liệu. Không ai tặng Vua Sa-lô-môn nhiều hương liệu bằng Nữ hoàng Sê-ba.
She gave the king one hundred twenty talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones. There came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.
11 (Khi đoàn tàu của Hi-ram đi chở vàng Ô-phia, cũng đem về rất nhiều gỗ bạch đàn và ngọc.
The navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug trees and precious stones.
12 Vua dùng gỗ bạch đàn làm trụ Đền Thờ Chúa Hằng Hữu và cung điện, làm đàn thất huyền và thụ cầm cho các ca đoàn. Ít-ra-ên chưa bao giờ có nhiều gỗ bạch đàn như thế).
The king made of the almug trees pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the king's house, harps also and stringed instruments for the singers: there came no such almug trees, nor were seen, to this day.
13 Để đáp lễ, Vua Sa-lô-môn tặng cho Nữ hoàng Sê-ba tất cả bảo vật bà thích và xin, ngoài những tặng vật bình thường của mà vua đã hào phóng ban tặng. Sau đó, nữ hoàng và đoàn tùy tùng lên đường về nước.
King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatever she asked, besides that which Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned, and went to her own land, she and her servants.
14 Mỗi năm Sa-lô-môn thu được khoảng 25 tấn vàng
Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred sixty-six talents of gold,
15 ngoài số vàng thu được do quan hệ ngoại thương với các vua A-rập, và do các tổng đốc trong nước đem nộp.
besides that which the traders brought, and the traffic of the merchants, and of all the kings of Arabia, and of the governors of the country.
16 Sa-lô-môn sai thợ lấy vàng gò thành khiên, 200 cái lớn, mỗi cái dùng hơn 6,8 ký vàng,
King Solomon made two hundred large shields of beaten gold; six hundred shekels of gold went to each shield.
17 và 300 cái nhỏ, mỗi cái dùng hơn 1,8 ký vàng. Những khiên này được đặt tại cung “Rừng Li-ban.”
He made three hundred shields of beaten gold; three minas of gold went to one shield: and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.
18 Vua cũng sai làm một cái ngai bằng ngà thật lớn, bọc vàng ròng.
Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with the finest gold.
19 Ngai có sáu bậc, thân ngai có đỉnh tròn, cạnh chỗ gác tay, mỗi bên có một con sư tử.
There were six steps to the throne, and the top of the throne was round behind; and there were stays on either side by the place of the seat, and two lions standing beside the stays.
20 Ngoài ra, có mười hai con sư tử khác đứng trên sáu bậc; mỗi con đứng ở một góc bậc. Không nước nào có được một chiếc ngai như thế.
Twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other on the six steps: there was nothing like it made in any kingdom.
21 Các ly uống nước của Sa-lô-môn đều được làm bằng vàng ròng, cũng như các dụng cụ trong Cung Rừng Li-ban làm bằng vàng ròng. Họ không làm bằng bạc vì trong đời Sa-lô-môn, bạc là loại tầm thường!
And all king Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and washing vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. None were of silver; it was not considered anything in the days of Solomon.
22 Cứ ba năm một lần, đoàn tàu hoàng gia cùng đoàn tàu của Hi-ram vượt biển đi Ta-rê-si đem về vàng, bạc, ngà, cùng dã nhân, và con công.
For the king had at sea a navy of Tarshish with the navy of Hiram: once every three years came the navy of Tarshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.
23 Vua Sa-lô-môn giàu có và khôn ngoan hơn tất cả các vua trên thế giới.
So king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom.
24 Thiên hạ đều mong được gặp Sa-lô-môn để lãnh hội tư tưởng khôn ngoan mà Đức Chúa Trời đã phú cho vua.
All the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.
25 Hằng năm người ta đến, đem theo vô số lễ vật, gồm những vật bằng vàng và bạc, y phục, binh giáp, hương liệu, ngựa, và la.
They brought every man his tribute, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and clothing, and armor, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year.
26 Sa-lô-môn lập đoàn kỵ binh, gồm 1.400 chiến xa và 12.000 chiến mã. Vua để chiến xa trong các thành chứa chiến xa, và gần bên vua tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.
Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, that he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.
27 Tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, bạc trở nên tầm thường như đá, gỗ bá hương như cây sung mọc đầy trong thung lũng.
The king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore trees that are in the lowland, for abundance.
28 Sa-lô-môn mua ngựa từ Ai Cập. Toán thương gia của vua đi mua từng bầy với giá phải chăng.
The horses which Solomon had were brought out of Egypt and Kue; and the king's merchants received them from Kue at a price.
29 Một cỗ xe mua từ Ai Cập mang về bán với giá chưa tới 600 miếng bạc, một con ngựa khoảng chừng 150 miếng bạc. Đó là giá các vua người Hê-tít và vua A-ram trả cho các thương gia của vua.
And came up and went out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred pieces of silver, and a horse for one hundred fifty; and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Aram, they brought them out by their means.
