1 Pea hili ʻae lea ʻaki ʻe Sisu ʻae ngaahi lea ni, naʻe ʻalu atu ia mo ʻene kau ākonga, ʻo laka ʻi he vai ko Kitiloni, ʻaia naʻe ʻi ai ha ngoue, pea ʻalu ia ki ai, mo ʻene kau ākonga.
When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered.
2 Pea naʻe ʻilo ʻae potu ʻe Siutasi foki, ʻaia ne ne lavakiʻi ia: he naʻe faʻa ʻalu ki ai ʻa Sisu mo ʻene kau ākonga.
Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples.

Judas then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.
4 Ka naʻe ʻilo ʻe Sisu ʻae meʻa kotoa pē ʻe hoko kiate ia, pea ʻalu atu ia, ʻo ne pehē kiate kinautolu, “Ko hai ʻoku mou kumi?”
Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went out and said to them, “Who are you looking for?”
5 Pea nau talaange kiate ia, “Ko Sisu ʻo Nāsaleti.” Pea pehē ʻe Sisu kiate kinautolu, “Ko au ia.” Pea naʻe tuʻu foki mo kinautolu ʻa Siutasi, ʻaia naʻa ne lavakiʻi ia.
They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.
6 Pea ʻi heʻene pehē kiate kinautolu, “Ko au ia,” naʻa nau fakaholomui, ʻo tō ki he kelekele.
When therefore he said to them, “I am he,” they went backward and fell to the ground.
7 Pea toe fehuʻi ʻe ia kiate kinautolu, “Ko hai ʻoku mou kumi?” Pea nau pehē, “Ko Sisu ʻo Nāsaleti.”
Again therefore he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
8 Pea leaange ʻa Sisu, “Kuo ʻosi ʻeku tala kiate kimoutolu ko au ia: ko ia kapau ʻoku mou kumi au, tuku ʻakinautolu ni ke ʻalu:”
Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way,”
9 Koeʻuhi ke fakamoʻoni ai ʻae lea ʻaia naʻa ne leaʻaki, ʻiate kinautolu “Naʻa ke foaki kiate au, ʻoku ʻikai mole ha taha.”
that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, “Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none.”
10 Pea naʻe maʻu ʻe Saimone Pita ʻae heletā, pea ne unuhi ia, ʻo taaʻi ʻaki ʻae tamaioʻeiki ʻae taulaʻeiki lahi, pea motuhi ai hono telinga toʻomataʻu. Ko e hingoa ʻoe tamaioʻeiki ko Malikusi.
Simon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
11 Pea pehē ʻe Sisu kia Pita, “ʻAi hoʻo heletā ki hono ʻaiʻanga: ko e ipu ʻoku foaki mai kiate au ʻe he Tamai, ʻikai te u inu ia?”
Jesus therefore said to Peter, “Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?”
12 Pea ko e kau tau mo e houʻeiki mo e kau tangata fekau ʻoe kakai Siu naʻa nau puke ʻa Sisu, ʻo haʻi ia,
So the detachment, the commanding officer, and the officers of the Jews seized Jesus and bound him,
13 ʻO nau tomuʻa taki ia kia ʻAnasi; he ko e tamai ia ʻi he fono kia Kaiafasi, ʻaia ko e taulaʻeiki lahi ia ʻi he taʻu ko ia.
and led him to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
14 Pea ko Kaiafasi ia foki naʻa ne tala ki he kakai Siu, ʻoku ʻaonga ke mate ha tangata ʻe taha koeʻuhi ko e kakai.
Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should perish for the people.
15 Pea naʻe muimui ʻa Saimone Pita ʻia Sisu, pea mo e ākonga ʻe taha: naʻe ʻilo ʻae ākonga ko ia ʻe he taulaʻeiki lahi, pea ʻalu ia mo Sisu ki he fale ʻoe taulaʻeiki lahi.
Simon Peter followed Jesus, as did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered in with Jesus into the court of the high priest;
16 Ka naʻe tuʻu ʻa Pita ʻituʻa ʻi he matapā. Pea ʻalu ʻae ākonga ʻe taha ʻaia naʻe ʻilo ʻe he taulaʻeiki lahi, ʻo lea kiate ia naʻe leʻo matapā, ʻo ne ʻomi ʻa Pita ki loto.
but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought in Peter.
17 Pea lea ʻae fefine leʻo matapā kia Pita, “ʻIkai ko e taha koe ʻoe kau ākonga ʻae tangata ni?” Pea tala ʻe ia, “ʻOku ʻikai.”
Then the maid who kept the door said to Peter, “Are you also one of this man’s disciples?” He said, “I am not.”
18 Pea ko e kau tauhi mo e kau tangata fekau naʻe tutuʻu ʻi ai, kuo nau tafu ʻae afi ʻaki ʻae ʻakau fefie; he naʻe momoko: pea naʻa nau mumū ai: pea tuʻu ʻa Pita mo kinautolu, ʻo mumū ai.
Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold. They were warming themselves. Peter was with them, standing and warming himself.
19 Pea fehuʻi ai ʻae taulaʻeiki lahi kia Sisu ki heʻene kau ākonga, pea mo ʻene akonaki.
The high priest therefore asked Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching.
20 Pea talaange ʻe Sisu kiate ia, “Kuo u lea fakahā ki māmani; ne u ako maʻu pe ʻi he falelotu, pea mo e falelotu lahi, ʻoku faʻa fakataha ai ʻae kakai Siu; pea naʻe ʻikai te u lea ʻaki ha meʻa ʻi he lilo.
Jesus answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always meet. I said nothing in secret.
21 Ko e hā ʻoku ke ʻeke ai kiate au? ʻEke kiate kinautolu kuo fanongo, he ko e hā ʻeku lea kiate kinautolu: vakai, ʻoku nau ʻilo ʻeku lea.”
Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them. Behold, they know the things which I said.”
22 Pea hili ʻene lea pehē, pea sipiʻi ʻa Sisu, ʻe he matāpule ʻe taha naʻe tuʻu ʻi ai, ʻaki hono ʻaofinima, ʻo ne pehē, “ʻOku pehē hoʻo tali ʻae taulaʻeiki lahi?”
When he had said this, one of the officers standing by slapped Jesus with his hand, saying, “Do you answer the high priest like that?”
23 Pea talaange ʻe Sisu kiate ia, “Kapau kuo u lea kovi, fakahā hono kovi: pea kapau ʻoku lelei, ko e hā ʻoku ke sipiʻi ai au?”
Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you beat me?”
24 Pea naʻe fekau ʻe ʻAnasi ke ʻave haʻisia ia kia Kaiafasi ko e taulaʻeiki lahi.
Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.
25 Pea naʻe tuʻu ʻa Saimone Pita, ʻo mumū. Pea nau pehē kiate ia, “ʻIkai ko e taha foki koe ʻo ʻene kau ākonga?” Pea fakafisi ʻe ia, ʻo pehē, “ʻOku ʻikai.”
Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, “You aren’t also one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.”
26 Pea naʻe lea ʻae tokotaha ʻoe kau tamaioʻeiki ʻae taulaʻeiki lahi, ko e kāinga ʻo ia naʻe motuhi hono telinga ʻe Pita, [ʻo pehē], “ʻIkai naʻaku mamata kiate koe mo ia ʻi he ngoue?”
One of the servants of the high priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?”
27 Pea toe fakafisi ʻe Pita: pea ʻuʻua leva ʻae moa.
Peter therefore denied it again, and immediately the rooster crowed.
28 Pea naʻa nau taki hengihengi ʻa Sisu meia Kaiafasi ki he fale fakamaau: pea naʻe ʻikai ʻalu ʻakinautolu ki he fale fakamaau, telia naʻa ʻuliʻi ʻakinautolu, pea koeʻuhi ko e nau kai ʻi he [feilaulau ʻoe ]Lakaatu.
They led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn’t enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.
29 Pea ʻalu kituʻa ʻa Pailato kiate kinautolu, ʻo ne pehē, “Ko e hā ʻae meʻa ʻoku mou talatalaakiʻi ai ʻae tangata ni?”
Pilate therefore went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?”
30 Pea leaange ʻakinautolu, ʻo pehē kiate ia, “Ka ne ʻikai ko e fai kovi ia, pehē, ʻe ʻikai te mau tuku atu ia kiate koe.”
They answered him, “If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”
31 Pea tala ʻe Pailato kiate kinautolu, “Mou ʻave ia, ʻo fakamaau ia ʻo fakatatau ki hoʻomou fono.” Ko ia naʻe pehē ai ʻe he kakai Siu kiate ia, “ʻOku ʻikai ngofua kiate kimautolu ke tāmateʻi ha tangata:”
Pilate therefore said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” Therefore the Jews said to him, “It is illegal for us to put anyone to death,”
32 Pea fakamoʻoni ai ʻae lea ʻa Sisu, ʻi heʻene fakahā ʻae anga ʻoe mate ʻe mate ai ia.
that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying by what kind of death he should die.
33 Pea toe hū ʻa Pailato ki he fale fakamaau, ʻo ne ui ʻa Sisu, ʻo ne pehē kiate ia, “Ko e tuʻi koe ʻoe kakai Siu?”
Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, called Jesus, and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”
34 Pea leaange ʻa Sisu kiate ia, “ʻOku meiate koe hoʻo lea ni, pe naʻe fakahā ia ʻe ha niʻihi kiate koe?”
Jesus answered him, “Do you say this by yourself, or did others tell you about me?”
35 Pea pehēange ʻe Pailato, “He ko e Siu au? Ko ho kakai ʻoʻou mo e kau taulaʻeiki lahi kuo nau tuku mai koe kiate au: ko e hā kuo ke fai?”
Pilate answered, “I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?”
36 Pea pehē ʻe Sisu, “ʻOku ʻikai ʻo māmani hoku puleʻanga; ka ne ʻo māmani hoku puleʻanga, pehē, ʻe tau hoku kakai, ke ʻoua naʻa ʻatu au ki he kakai Siu: ka ko eni, ʻoku ʻikai mei heni hoku puleʻanga.”
Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here.”
37 Ko ia naʻe pehē ʻe Pailato kiate ia, “Pea ko e tuʻi koe koā?” Pea talaange ʻe Sisu, “Ko e tuʻi au ʻo hangē ko hoʻo lea. Ko ia naʻaku fanauʻi, pea ko ia naʻaku haʻu ai ki māmani, koeʻuhi ke u fakamoʻoni ki he moʻoni. Ko ia kotoa pē ʻoku ʻi he moʻoni, ʻoku fanongo ia ki hoku leʻo.”
Pilate therefore said to him, “Are you a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
38 Pea pehē ʻe Pailato kiate ia, “Ko e hā ʻae moʻoni?” Pea hili ʻene lea ko ia, naʻe toe ʻalu ia kituʻa ki he kakai Siu, ʻo ne pehē kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku ʻikai te u ʻilo ʻeau ha kovi ʻiate ia.
Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no basis for a charge against him.
39 Ka koeʻuhi ko hono anga, ke u tukuange ha tokotaha ʻi he [kātoanga ʻoe ]Lakaatu kiate kimoutolu: pea ko homou loto ke u tukuange ʻae Tuʻi ʻoe kakai Siu kiate kimoutolu?”
But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore, do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”
40 Pea toe kalanga ʻakinautolu kotoa pē, ʻo pehē, “ʻIkai ko e tangata ni, ka ko Palāpasa.” Pea ko Palāpasa ko e kaihaʻa ia.
Then they all shouted again, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.
