1 Vakai, kuo mamata ʻe hoku mata ʻa eni kotoa pē, kuo fanongo pea ʻilo ia ʻe hoku telinga.
Behold, mine eye has seen these things, and mine ear has heard [them].
2 Ko ia ʻoku mou ʻilo, ʻoku ou ʻilo foki ia: ʻoku ʻikai te u siʻi hifo au ʻiate kimoutolu.
And I know all that you too know; and I have not less understanding than you.
3 “ʻAmusiaange ʻeau ke u lea ki he Māfimafi, pea ʻoku ou fie alea mo e ʻOtua.
Nevertheless I will speak to the Lord, and I will reason before him, if he will.
4 Ka ko e kau fakatupu loi ʻakimoutolu, ko e kau faitoʻo taʻeʻaonga ʻakimoutolu kotoa pē.
But you are all bad physicians, and healers of diseases.
5 Taumaiā ke mou mātuʻaki longo pē! Pea ko hoʻomou poto ia.
But would that you were silent, and it would be wisdom to you in the end.
6 Fanongo eni ki heʻeku fakamatala, pea fakafanongo ki he ngaahi lea ʻa hoku loungutu.
But hear you the reasoning of my mouth, and attend to the judgement of my lips.
7 He te mou lea kovi maʻae ʻOtua? Pea lea fakakākā maʻana?
Do you not speak before the Lord, and utter deceit before him?
8 He te mou lavaʻi ia? Te mou fakakikihi maʻae ʻOtua?
Or will you draw back? nay do, you yourselves be judges.
9 ‌ʻE lelei ke ne ʻekea ʻakimoutolu? Pe te mou kākaaʻi ia, ʻo hangē ko e kākaaʻi ʻe he tangata ʻe taha ʻae tokotaha?
For [it were] well if he would thoroughly search you: for though doing all things [in your power] you should attach yourselves to him,
10 Ko e moʻoni ʻe valoki ʻe ia ʻakimoutolu, ʻo kapau te mou filifilimānako fufū pe ʻae kakai.
he will not reprove you at all the less: but if moreover you should secretly respect persons,
11 ‌ʻE ʻikai fakamanavahēʻi ʻakimoutolu ʻe heʻene ʻafio? Pea tō kiate kimoutolu ʻene fakailifia?
shall not his whirlpool sweep you round, and terror from him fall upon you?
12 Ko hoʻomou ngaahi lea fakamanatu ʻoku tatau mo e efuefu, ko e fokotuʻu na ʻo hoʻomou ngaahi lea, ʻoku tatau mo e ngaahi ʻesi ʻumea.
And your glorying shall prove in the end to you like ashes, and your body [like a body] of clay.
13 “Tuku hoʻomou lau, pea tuku ai pe au, koeʻuhi, ke u lea, kae hoko kiate au ʻaia ʻe hoko.
Be silent, that I may speak, and cease from [mine] anger,
14 Ko e hā ʻoku ou ʻūtaki ai hoku kakano, pea ʻai ʻeku moʻui ki hoku nima?
while I may take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand.
15 Neongo ʻene tāmateʻi au, te u falala pe kiate ia: ka te u fakamatala hoku ngaahi hala ʻi hono ʻao.
Though the Mighty One should lay hand upon me, forasmuch as he has begun, verily I will speak, and plead before him.
16 ‌ʻE fakamoʻui au foki ʻe ia: ka ʻe ʻikai ha mālualoi ʻe haʻu ki hono ʻao.
And this shall turn to me for salvation; for fraud shall have no entrance before him.
17 Fanongo lelei ki heʻeku lea, fanongo ʻaki homou telinga ʻa ʻeku fakamatala.
Hear, hear you my words, for I will declare in your hearing.
18 Vakai eni, kuo u teu ʻeku fakamatala; ʻoku ou ʻilo ʻe fakatonuhiaʻi au.
Behold, I am near my judgement: I know that I shall appear evidently just.
19 Ko hai ia te ne talatalaakiʻi au? He ko eni, kapau te u fakalongo pe, te u mate.
For who is he that shall plead with me, that I should now be silent, and expire?
20 “Ko e meʻa ʻe ua pe, ke ʻoua naʻa fai kiate au: ko ia ʻe ʻikai ai te u fufū au ʻiate koe.
But grant me two things: then I will not hide myself from your face.
21 Ke toʻo atu ke mamaʻo ho nima ʻiate au: pea ʻoua naʻaku puputuʻu ʻi hoʻo fakailifia.
Withhold [your] hand from me: and let not your fear terrify me.
22 Pea ke toki folofola mai, pea te u talia; pea te u lea atu, ka ke talia au.
Then shall you call, and I will listen to you: or you shall speak, and I will give you an answer.
23 ‌ʻOku fiha ʻeku ngaahi hia mo ʻeku angahala? Fakaʻilo mai kiate au ʻeku talangataʻa mo ʻeku angahala.
How many are my sins and my transgressions? teach me what they are.
24 Ko e hā ʻoku ke fufū ai ho fofonga, mo ke lau au ko ho fili?
Therefore hide you yourself from me, and deem me your enemy?
25 He te ke pakiʻi ʻae louʻakau kuo feʻaveʻaki? Pea te ke tuli ʻe koe ʻae mohuku mōmoa?
Will you be startled [at me], as [at] a leaf shaken by the wind? or will you set yourself against me as against grass borne upon the breeze?
26 He ʻoku ke tohi ʻae ngaahi meʻa fakamamahi kiate au, pea ʻoku ke fakahoko kiate au ʻae ngaahi hia ʻo ʻeku kei siʻi.
for you have written evil things against me, and you have compassed me with the sins of my youth.
27 ‌ʻOku ke ʻai hoku vaʻe ki he ʻakau fakamaʻu vaʻe, pea ke vakai pau hoku ʻalunga kotoa pē; ʻoku ke ʻai ʻae fakaʻilonga ki hoku muivaʻe.
And you have placed my foot in the stocks; and you have watched all my works, and have penetrated my heels.
28 Pea ʻoku fakaʻaʻau ia ʻo hangē ha meʻa popo, pea tatau mo e kofu kuo kai ʻe he ane.
[I am as] that which waxes old like a bottle, or like a moth-eaten garment.
