< Selemaia 32 >

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah — it [is] the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar,
2 He naʻe kāpui ʻa Selūsalema ʻe he kau tau ʻae tuʻi ʻo Papilone ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ko ia: pea naʻe tuku ʻa Selemaia ko e palōfita ki he lotoʻā ʻoe fale fakapōpula, ʻaia naʻe ʻi he fale ʻoe tuʻi ʻo Siuta.
And then the forces of the king of Babylon are laying siege against Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet hath been shut up in the court of the prison that [is] in the house of the king of Judah,
3 He kuo tuku ia ki ai ʻe Setikia ko e tuʻi ʻo Siuta, ʻo pehē, “Ko e hā ʻoku ke kikite ai, ʻo lea, ‘ʻoku pehē mai ʻa Sihova, Vakai, te u tukuange ʻae kolo ni ki he tuʻi ʻo Papilone, pea te ne kapa ia;
Where Zedekiah king of Judah hath shut him up, saying, 'Wherefore art thou prophesying, saying, Thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he hath captured it;
4 Pea ʻe ʻikai hao ʻa Setikia ko e tuʻi ʻo Siuta mei he nima ʻoe kau Kalitia, ka ʻe tukuange moʻoni ia ki he nima ʻoe tuʻi ʻo Papilone, pea te ne alea mo ia, ko e ngutu ki he ngutu, pea ʻe mamata ia ki hono mata.
And Zedekiah king of Judah doth not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but is certainly given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and his mouth hath spoken with his mouth, and his eyes see his eyes,
And [to] Babylon he leadeth Zedekiah, and there he is till My inspecting him, — an affirmation of Jehovah — because ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye do not prosper.'
6 Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Selemaia, “Naʻe haʻu kiate au, ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova, ʻo pehē,
And Jeremiah saith, 'A word of Jehovah hath been unto me saying,
7 ‘Vakai, ʻe haʻu kiate koe ʻa Hanamili ko e foha ʻo Salumi ko e tokoua ʻo hoʻo tamai, ʻo pehē, fakatau moʻou ʻae ngoue ʻaia ʻoku ʻi ʻAnatoti: he ʻoku totonu ke ke fakatau ia ʻo hangē ko e fono ʻoe huhuʻi.”’”
Lo, Hanameel son of Shallum, thine uncle, is coming unto thee, saying, Buy for thee my field that [is] in Anathoth, for thine [is] the right of redemption — to buy.
8 “Ko ia naʻe haʻu kiate au ki he lotoʻā ʻoe fale fakapōpula ʻa Hanamili ko e foha ʻoe tokoua ʻeku tamai, ʻo hangē ko e folofola ʻa Sihova, pea ne pehē kiate au, ‘ʻOku ou kole kiate koe, ke ke fakatau ʻeku ngoue ʻaia ʻoku ʻi ʻAnatoti, ʻaia ʻoku ʻi he fonua ʻo Penisimani: he ʻoku ʻaʻau ia ʻo hangē ko e fono ʻoe hoko, pea ʻoku ʻiate koe hono huhuʻi; ke ke fakatau ia maʻau.’ “Pea naʻaku toki ʻilo tā ko e folofola eni ʻa Sihova.
And Hanameel, my uncle's son, cometh in unto me, according to the word of Jehovah, unto the court of the prison, and saith unto me, 'Buy, I pray thee, my field that [is] in Anathoth, that [is] in the land of Benjamin, for thine [is] the right of possession, and thine of redemption — buy for thee.' And I know that it [is] the word of Jehovah,
9 Pea naʻaku fakatau ʻae ngoue ʻa Hanamili ko e foha ʻoe tokoua ʻo ʻeku tamai, ʻaia naʻe ʻi ʻAnatoti, pea u fakatatau ʻae paʻanga kiate ia, ko e sikeli siliva ʻe hongofulu ma fitu.
And I buy the field, that [is] in Anathoth, from Hanameel, my uncle's son, and I weigh to him the money — seventeen shekels of silver.
10 Pea naʻaku tohi ʻae tohi, pea fakamaʻu ia, pea naʻe fakamoʻoni ʻe he kau fakamoʻoni, pea u fakamamafa kiate ia ʻae paʻanga ʻi he meʻa fakatatau.
And I write in a book, and seal, and cause witnesses to testify, and weigh the silver in balances;
11 Pea ne u toʻo fakatouʻosi ʻae fakamoʻoni ki he fakatau, ʻaia naʻe fakamaau, pea mo ia naʻe ʻikai fakamaau, ʻo hangē ko e anga ʻoe fono:
And I take the purchase-book, the sealed one, according to law and custom, and the open one.
12 Pea u foaki ʻae fakamoʻoni ʻae fakatau kia Paluki ko e foha ʻo Nelia, ko e foha ʻo Māseia, ʻi he ʻao ʻo Hanamili ko e foha ʻoe tokoua ʻo ʻeku tamai, pea ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kau fakamoʻoni naʻe tohi ʻi he tohi ʻoe fakatau, pea ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kau Siu naʻe nofo ʻi he lotoʻā ʻoe fale fakapōpula.
And I give the purchase-book unto Baruch son of Neriah, son of Maaseiah, before the eyes of Hanameel, my uncle's son, and before the eyes of the witnesses, those writing in the purchase-book, before the eyes of all the Jews who are sitting in the court of the prison.
13 “Pea naʻaku fekau kia Paluki ʻi honau ʻao, ʻo pehē,
And I charge Baruch before their eyes, saying,
14 ‌ʻOku pehē mai ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli; ‘Toʻo ʻae ngaahi fakamoʻoni ki he fakatau, ʻaia ʻoku fakamaʻu, mo ia ʻoku taʻefakamaʻu fakatouʻosi; pea ʻai ia ki he ipu kelekele, koeʻuhi ke tolonga ia ki he ngaahi ʻaho lahi.’
'Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Take these books, this purchase-book, both the sealed one and the open one, and thou hast put them in an earthen vessel, that they may remain many days;
15 He ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli; ‘ʻE toe maʻu ʻae ngaahi fale, mo e ngaahi ngoue, pea mo e ngaahi ngoue vaine ʻi he fonua ni.’
For thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Again are houses and fields and vineyards bought in this land.'
16 Pea hili ʻeku tukuange ʻae fakamoʻoni ʻoe fakatau kia Paluki ko e foha ʻo Nelia, naʻaku toki lotu kia Sihova, ʻo pehē,
And I pray unto Jehovah — after my giving the purchase-book unto Baruch son of Neriah — saying,
17 “ʻEiki ko Sihova! Vakai, kuo ke ngaohi ʻae langi pea mo māmani ʻi ho mālohi lahi pea mo e nima mafao, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha meʻa ʻe taha ʻoku faingataʻa kiate koe:
'Ah, Lord Jehovah, lo, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by Thy great power, and by Thy stretched-out arm; there is nothing too wonderful for Thee:
18 Kuo ke fakahā ʻa hoʻo ʻulungāanga ʻofa ki he ngaahi toko afe, pea ʻoku ke totongi ʻae hia ʻae ngaahi tamai ki he fatafata ʻo ʻenau fānau ʻoku muimui ʻiate kinautolu: ko e ʻOtua Lahi, pea Māfimafi, Ko Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau hono huafa,
Doing kindness to thousands, and recompensing iniquity of fathers into the bosom of their sons after them; God, the great, the mighty, Jehovah of Hosts [is] His name,
19 Ko e lahi ia ʻi he fakakaukau, pea mālohi ʻi he ngāue: he ʻoku ʻi he ngaahi faianga ʻoe ngaahi fānau ʻae tangata ʻa ho fofonga: ke ʻatu taki taha kiate kinautolu ʻo hangē ko hono ngaahi hala, pea hangē ko e fua ʻo ʻenau ngaahi faianga:
Great in counsel, and mighty in act, in that Thine eyes are open on all the ways of the sons of Adam, to give to each according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:
20 ‌ʻA koe naʻa ke fakahā ʻae ngaahi fakaʻilonga mo e ngaahi meʻa fakaofo ʻi he fonua ko ʻIsipite, pea mo ʻIsileli, pea ki he ngaahi kakai kehe, ʻo aʻu ki he ʻaho ni; pea kuo ke fakaongoongoa ho huafa, ʻo hangē ko ia ʻi he ʻaho ni;
In that thou hast done signs and wonders in the land of Egypt unto this day, and in Israel, and among men, and Thou dost make for Thee a name as [at] this day.
21 Pea kuo ke ʻomi ʻa hoʻo kakai ʻIsileli mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite mo e ngaahi fakaʻilonga, pea mo e ngaahi meʻa fakaofo, ʻaki ʻae nima mālohi, pea mo e nima mafao atu, pea mo e meʻa fakailifia lahi;
'And Thou bringest forth Thy people Israel from the land of Egypt, with signs and with wonders, and by a strong hand, and by a stretched-out arm, and by great fear,
22 Pea kuo ke foaki kiate kinautolu ʻae fonua ni, ʻaia naʻa ke fuakava ki heʻenau ngaahi tamai te ke foaki kiate kinautolu, ko e fonua ʻoku fetāfeaki ai ʻae huʻahuhu pea mo e meʻa huʻamelie
And thou givest to them this land that thou didst swear to their fathers to give to them, a land flowing with milk and honey,
23 Pea naʻa nau hū ki ai, ʻo maʻu ia ka naʻe ʻikai te nau talangofua ki ho leʻo, pe ʻaʻeva ʻi hoʻo fono; naʻe ʻikai te nau fai ha meʻa ʻe taha ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē naʻa ke fekau kiate kinautolu ke nau fai: ko ia kuo ke fakahoko kiate kinautolu ʻae ngaahi kovi ni kotoa pē:
And they come in, and possess it, and they have not hearkened to Thy voice, and in Thy law have not walked, all that which Thou didst lay a charge on them to do they have not done, and Thou dost proclaim [to] them all this evil.
24 “Vakai ki he teu tau, kuo nau haʻu ki he kolo ke kapa ia; pea kuo tukuange ʻae kolo ki he nima ʻoe kau Kalitia, ʻoku tauʻi ʻaki ia ʻae heletā, mo e honge, mo e mahaki fakaʻauha, pea ko ia naʻa ke folofola ki ai kuo hoko; pea vakai, ʻoku ke ʻafio ki ai.
'Lo, the mounts — they have come in to the city to capture it, and the city hath been given into the hand of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it, because of the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence; and that which Thou hast spoken hath come to pass, and lo, Thou art seeing;
25 Pea naʻa ke pehē kiate au, ‘ʻE ʻEiki ko Sihova, Ke ke fakatauʻaki ʻae ngoue ʻae paʻanga, pea fili ha kau fakamoʻoni;’ he kuo tukuange ʻae kolo ki he nima ʻoe kau Kalitia.”
Yet Thou hast said unto me, O Lord Jehovah, Buy for thee the field with money, and cause witnesses to testify — and the city hath been given into the hand of the Chaldeans!'
26 Pea naʻe toki hoko ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kia Selemaia, ʻo pehē,
And the word of Jehovah is unto Jeremiah, saying:
27 “Vakai, Ko au ko Sihova, Ko e ʻOtua ʻoe kakai kotoa pē: ʻoku ai ha meʻa ʻe faingataʻa kiate au?
'Lo, I [am] Jehovah, God of all flesh: For Me is anything too wonderful?
'Therefore, thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he hath captured it;
29 Pea ʻe haʻu ʻae kau Kalitia, ʻo tauʻi ʻae kolo ni, pea te nau tutu ʻaki ʻae afi ʻae kolo ni, pea tungia mo e ngaahi fale, ʻaia naʻa nau tutu ai ʻi he tuʻa fale ʻae meʻa namu kakala kia Peali, pea lilingi ʻae ngaahi feilaulau inu ki he ngaahi ʻotua kehe, ke fakahouhauʻi au.
And come in have the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city, and they have set this city on fire, and have burned it, and the houses on whose roofs they made perfume to Baal, and poured out libations to other gods, so as to provoke Me to anger.
30 “He kuo fai kovi pe ʻi hoku ʻao ʻae fānau ʻa ʻIsileli mo e fānau ʻa Siuta talu ʻenau kei siʻi: he kuo fakahouhau ʻaki pe au ʻe he fānau ʻa ʻIsileli ʻae ngāue ʻa honau nima, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova.
For the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have been only doing evil in Mine eyes, from their youth; for the sons of Israel are only provoking Me with the work of their hands — an affirmation of Jehovah.
31 He kuo hoko kiate au ʻae kolo ni ko e tupuʻanga ʻo ʻeku tuputāmaki mo hoku houhau talu mei he ʻaho naʻa nau langa ai ia ʻo aʻu ki he ʻaho ni; koeʻuhi ke u hiki ia mei hoku ʻao,
'For a cause of Mine anger, and a cause of My fury, hath this city been to Me, even from the day that they built it, and unto this day — to turn it aside from before My face,
32 Koeʻuhi ko e kovi kotoa pē ʻae fānau ʻa ʻIsileli pea mo e fānau ʻa Siuta, ʻaia kuo nau fakahouhauʻi au, ko kinautolu, mo honau ngaahi tuʻi, mo honau houʻeiki, mo honau kau taulaʻeiki, pea mo honau kau palōfita, pea mo e kau tangata ʻo Siuta, pea mo e kakai ʻo Selūsalema.
Because of all the evil of the sons of Israel, and of the sons of Judah that they have done, so as to provoke Me — they, their kings, their heads, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
And they turn unto Me the neck, and not the face, and teaching them, rising early and teaching, and they are not hearkening to accept instruction.
34 Ka naʻa nau fokotuʻu ʻenau ngaahi meʻa fakalielia ʻi he fale, ʻaia ʻoku ui ʻaki ʻa hoku huafa, ke fakaʻuliʻi ia.
'And they set their abominations in the house over which My name is called, so as to defile it;
35 Pea kuo nau langa ʻae ngaahi potu māʻolunga ʻo Peali, ʻaia ʻoku ʻi he teleʻa ʻoe foha ʻo Henomi, ke pule ki honau ngaahi foha mo e ngaahi ʻofefine ke ʻalu [ʻi he afi ]kia Moleki; ʻaia naʻaku fekau kiate kinautolu ke ʻoua naʻa nau fai ia, pea naʻe ʻikai siʻi te u loto ki ai, ke ʻoua naʻa nau fai ʻae meʻa fakalielia ni, ke fakaangahalaʻi ʻaki ʻa Siuta.”
And they build the high places of Baal, that [are] in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through to Molech, which I did not command them, nor did it come up on my heart to do this abomination, so as to cause Judah to sin.
36 Pea ko eni, ʻoku pehē mai ʻe Sihova, ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, ki he kolo ni, ʻaia ʻoku mou pehē ki ai, “ʻE tukuange ia ki he nima ʻoe tuʻi ʻo Papilone ʻi he heletā, mo e honge, pea mo e mahaki fakaʻauha:”
'And now, therefore, thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, concerning this city, of which ye are saying, It hath been given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, and by famine, and by pestilence,
37 “Vakai, te u tānaki fakataha ʻakinautolu mei he ngaahi fonua kotoa pē, ʻaia naʻaku kapusi ʻakinautolu ki ai ʻi heʻeku tuputāmaki, mo hoku houhau, pea mo hoku houhau lahi; pea te u toe ʻomi ʻakinautolu ki he potu ni pea te u pule ke nau nofo ʻi he fiemālie:
Lo, I am gathering them out of all the lands whither I have driven them in Mine anger, and in My fury, and in great wrath, and I have brought them back unto this place, and have caused them to dwell confidently;
38 Pea te nau hoko ko hoku kakai, pea te u hoko ko honau ʻOtua:
and they have been to Me for a people, and I am to them for God;
39 Pea te u foaki kiate kinautolu ʻae loto pe taha, mo e hala pe taha, koeʻuhi ke nau manavahē kiate au ʻo taʻengata, koeʻuhi ke nau lelei ai, pea lelei mo ʻenau fānau ki mui ʻiate kinautolu:
and I have given to them one heart, and one way, to fear Me all the days, for good to them, and to their sons after them:
40 Pea te u fai mo kinautolu ʻae fuakava taʻengata, ʻe ʻikai te u tafoki meiate kinautolu, ʻi he fai lelei kiate kinautolu; ka te u ʻai ki honau loto ʻae manavahē kiate au, koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa nau liʻaki au.
and I have made for them a covenant age-during, in that I turn not back from after them for My doing them good, and My fear I put in their heart, so as not to turn aside from me;
41 ‌ʻIo, te u fiefia ʻiate kinautolu, ke fai lelei kiate kinautolu, pea ko e moʻoni te u tō ʻakinautolu ʻi he fonua ni ʻaki hoku loto kotoa pea mo hoku laumālie kotoa.”
and I have rejoiced over them to do them good, and have planted them in this land in truth, with all my heart, and with all My soul.
42 “He ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova; ʻO hangē kuo u ʻomi ʻae kovi lahi ni kotoa pē ki he kakai ni, ʻe pehē foki ʻeku ʻomi ʻae lelei kotoa pē ʻaia kuo u talaʻofa ki ai kiate kinautolu.
'For thus said Jehovah: As I brought in unto this people all this great evil, so I am bringing in on them all the good that I am speaking concerning them;
43 Pea ʻe fakatau ʻae ngaahi ngoue ʻi he fonua ni, ʻaia ʻoku mou pehē ki ai, ʻOku lala ia, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha tangata pe ha manu ʻi ai; kuo tukuange ia ki he nima ʻoe kau Kalitia.
and bought hath been the field in this land of which ye are saying, A desolation it [is], without man and beast, it hath been given into the hand of the Chaldeans.
44 ‌ʻE fakatau ʻe he kakai ʻae ngaahi ngoue ʻaki ʻae paʻanga, pea ʻe tohi ʻae ngaahi tohi fakamoʻoni, pea fakamaʻu ia, pea ʻe maʻu ʻae kau fakamoʻoni ʻi he fonua ʻo Penisimani, pea mo e ngaahi potu ofi ki Selūsalema, pea ʻi he ngaahi kolo ʻo Siuta, pea mo e ngaahi kolo ʻi he potu moʻunga, pea mo e ngaahi kolo ʻi he potu tokalelei, pea mo e ngaahi kolo ʻoe feituʻu tonga: he te u liliu ʻenau pōpula,” ʻoku pehē mai ʻe Sihova.
Fields with money they buy, so as to write in a book, and to seal, and to cause witnesses to testify, in the land of Benjamin, and in suburbs of Jerusalem, and in cities of Judah, and in cities of the hill-country, and in cities of the low country, and in cities of the south, for I turn back their captivity — an affirmation of Jehovah.'
