< 2 Samuela 23 >

1 Pea ko eni, ko e ngaahi lea fakamuimui eni ʻa Tevita. Naʻe pehē ʻe Tevita ko e foha ʻo Sese, pea naʻe lea ʻo pehē ʻe he tangata naʻe hiki hake ke māʻolunga, ko ia naʻe pani ʻe he ʻOtua ʻo Sēkope, pea pehē ʻe ia naʻe fasi mālie ʻi ʻIsileli,
Now these are the last words of David: The saying of David the son of Jesse, and the saying of the man raised on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet singer of Israel:
2 Naʻe folofola ʻiate au ʻae Laumālie ʻo Sihova, pea ko ʻene folofola naʻe ʻi hoku ʻelelo.
The spirit of the LORD spoke by me, and His word was upon my tongue.
3 Naʻe pehē ʻe he ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, “Naʻe folofola mai kiate au ʻae Makatuʻu ʻa ʻIsileli, Ke ke pule koe ki he kakai ʻi he angatonu, ʻo pule ʻi he manavahē ki he ʻOtua.
The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spoke to me: 'Ruler over men shall be the righteous, even he that ruleth in the fear of God,
4 Ke tatau ia mo e maama ʻoe pongipongi, ʻoka hopo hake ʻae laʻā, ʻi he pongipongi ʻoku ʻikai ai ha ngaahi ʻao; pea hangē ko e mohuku maʻuiʻui ʻoku [tupu ]mei he kelekele ʻaia ʻoku ngingila lelei ʻoka ʻosi ʻae tō ʻae ʻuha.”
And as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, a morning without clouds; when through clear shining after rain, the tender grass springeth out of the earth.'
5 Neongo ʻoku ʻikai pehē ʻa hoku fale ki he ʻOtua, ka kuo ne fai mo au ha fuakava taʻengata, kuo tuʻutuʻuni lelei ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē mo maʻu: pea ko ia kotoa pē te u moʻui ai, mo ia kotoa pē ʻoku ou holi ki ai, ʻikai te ne ngaohi ia ke tupu?
For is not my house established with God? for an everlasting covenant He hath made with me, ordered in all things, and sure; for all my salvation, and all my desire, will he not make it to grow?
6 Ka ʻe tatau ʻaia kotoa pē ʻoku ʻoe angakovi mo e talatalaʻi ʻakau ʻoku tekeʻi atu, koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai faʻa puke ʻaki ia ʻae nima:
But the ungodly, they are as thorns thrust away, all of them, for they cannot be taken with the hand;
7 He ko e tangata ʻe ala ki ai ʻoku lelei ke ne mahafu ʻaki ʻae ukamea mo e kau ʻoe tao; pea ʻe tutu ʻaki ʻae afi ke ʻauha mālie kinautolu ʻi he potu[pe ko ia].
But the man that toucheth them must be armed with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in their place.
8 Ko e hingoa eni ʻoe kau tangata mālohi ʻaia naʻe ʻia Tevita: ko Sosepiposipati mei Takimoni, ko e tuʻukimuʻa ʻi he ʻeiki ʻe “Toko Tolu;” ko ia foki ko ʻAtino ko e Hasinate: naʻa ne tauʻi ʻae toko valungeau ʻaia naʻa ne tāmateʻi ʻi he kuonga pe taha.
These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-basshebeth a Tahchemonite, chief of the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite; he lifted up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.
9 Pea naʻe hoko mo ia ʻa ʻEliesa ko e foha ʻo Toto ko e tangata ʻAhoi, ko e taha ʻi he tuʻunga tangata ʻe toko tolu naʻe ʻia Tevita, ʻi he kuonga naʻa nau luki ki he kakai Filisitia naʻe tānaki fakataha ki he tau, ka kuo ʻalu mei ai ʻae kakai ʻIsileli:
And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the son of an Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they jeoparded their lives against the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away;
10 Naʻa ne tuʻu hake, ʻo ne taaʻi ʻae kau Filisitia, pea naʻe fai ai pe ke vaivai hono nima, pea naʻe piki maʻu hono nima ki he heletā; pea naʻe fai ʻe Sihova ʻi he ʻaho ko ia ʻae ikuna fakamanavahē; pea naʻe muimui kiate ia ʻae kakai ke vete pe ʻae koloa.
he stood firm, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand did cleave unto the sword; and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to strip the slain.
11 Pea naʻe hoko mo ia ʻa Sama ko e foha ʻo ʻAkii ko e tangata Halali. Pea naʻe tānaki fakataha ʻae kau Filisitia ke papani, ki he potu ngoue naʻe fonu ʻi he piini: pea naʻe feholaki ʻae kakai mei he ʻao ʻoe kau Filisitia.
And after him was Shammah the son of Age the Ararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a plot of ground full of lentils; and the people fled from the Philistines.
12 Ka naʻe tuʻu pe ia ʻi he loto ngoue, ʻo ne maluʻi ia, mo ne tāmateʻi ʻae kau Filisitia: pea naʻe fai ʻe Sihova ʻae ikuna lahi.
But he stood in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and the LORD wrought a great victory.
13 Pea naʻe ʻalu hifo ʻae ʻeiki ʻe toko tolu naʻe pule ki he “Toko Tolungofulu” naʻe tuʻukimuʻa, ʻonau hoko mai kia Tevita ʻi he lolotonga ʻae ututaʻu, ki he ʻana ʻi ʻAtulami: pea naʻe nofo ʻae kautau ʻoe kakai Filisitia ʻi he teleʻa ʻo Lefeimi.
And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam; and the troop of the Philistines were encamped in the valley of Rephaim.
14 Pea naʻe nofo ʻa Tevita ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ko ia ʻi he kolo mālohi, pea naʻe nofo ʻae tau ʻae kakai Filisitia ʻi he kuonga ko ia ʻi Petelihema.
And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem.
15 Pea naʻe holi ʻa Tevita, ʻo ne pehē, “Taumaiā ke ʻomi ʻe ha tokotaha haʻaku vai ke u inu mei he vaikeli ʻo Petelihema, ʻaia ʻoku ʻi he veʻematapā!”
And David longed, and said: 'Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate!'
16 Pea naʻe ʻoho atu ʻae kau tangata mālohi ʻe Toko Tolu ko ia, ʻo ʻasi ʻi he matatau ʻoe kau Filisitia, ke utu hake ʻae vai mei he vaikeli ʻi Petelihema, ʻaia naʻe ʻi he veʻe matanikolo, pea naʻa nau toʻo ia, ʻo ʻomi kia Tevita: ka neongo ia naʻe ʻikai te ne inu mei ai, ka naʻa ne lilingi atu ia ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova.
And the three mighty men broke through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David; but he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD.
17 Pea naʻa ne pehē, “Ke mamaʻo ia ʻiate au, ʻE Sihova, ke u fai ʻae meʻa ni; ʻikai ko e toto eni ʻoe kau tangata naʻe ʻalu kae tuʻutāmaki ʻenau moʻui?” Ko ia naʻe ʻikai ai te ne inu mei ai. Ko e ngaahi meʻa eni naʻe fai ʻe he kau tangata mālohi ʻe toko tolu ko ia.
And he said: 'Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this; shall I drink the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives?' therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.
18 Pea ko ʻApisai, ko e tokoua ʻo Soape, ko e tama ʻa Seluia, naʻe ʻeiki hake ia ʻi he Toko Tolu. Pea naʻa ne apoapo ʻa ʻene tao ke tauʻi ʻae toko tolungeau, pea naʻa ne tāmateʻi kinautolu, pea naʻe ongoongo hake ʻa hono hingoa ʻi he Toko Tolu.
And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief of the three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them, and had a name among the three.
19 ‌ʻIkai naʻe ongoongoa lahi hake ia ʻi he Toko Tolu? Ko ia naʻa ne ʻeiki kiate kinautolu: ka naʻe ʻikai tatau ia mo e ʻuluaki Toko Tolu.
He was most honourable of the three; therefore he was made their captain; howbeit he attained not unto the first three.
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, he smote the two altar-hearths of Moab; he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow;
21 Pea naʻa ne tāmateʻi ha tangata ʻIsipite, ko e tangata toulekeleka: pea naʻe toʻo ʻe he tangata ʻIsipite ha tao ʻi hono nima: ka naʻa ne ʻalu atu kiate ia mo e tokotoko pe, pea ne hamusi ʻae tao mei he nima ʻoe tangata ʻIsipite, pea ne tāmateʻi ia ʻaki ʻa ʻene tao ʻaʻana.
and he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man; and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.
22 Ko e ngaahi meʻa eni naʻe fai ʻe Penaia ko e foha ʻo Sehoiata, pea naʻe lau hono hingoa ki he Toko Tolu naʻe ongoongoa.
These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had a name among the three mighty men.
23 Naʻe ongoongo lahi hake ia ʻi he Toko Tolungofulu, ka naʻe ʻikai tatau ia mo e ʻuluaki Toko Tolu. Pea naʻe fakanofo ia ʻe Tevita ke tuʻukimuʻa ʻi heʻene kau mātuʻa alea.
He was more honourable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three. And David set him over his guard.
