1 Pea naʻe toki pehē ʻe Solomone, “Kuo pehē ʻe Sihova te ne nofo ʻi he fakapoʻuli matolu.

Then Solomon said, O Lord, to the sun you have given the heaven for a living-place, but your living-place was not seen by men,

2 Ka kuo u langa hake ha fale nofoʻanga moʻou, pea mo ha potu ke ke ʻafio ai ʻo taʻengata.”

So I have made for you a living-place, a house in which you may be for ever present.

3 Pea naʻe tafoki ʻe he tuʻi ʻa hono fofonga, pea naʻa ne tāpuaki ʻae fakataha kātoa ʻo ʻIsileli: pea naʻe tutuʻu ki ʻolunga ʻae fakataha kātoa ʻo ʻIsileli.

Then, turning his face about, the king gave a blessing to all the men of Israel; and they were all on their feet together.

4 Pea naʻa ne pehē, “Fakafetaʻi kia Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻaia kuo ne fakamoʻoni ʻaki ʻa hono nima ʻae folofola naʻe fai mei hono fofonga kia Tevita, ko ʻeku tamai, ʻo pehē,

And he said, Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who himself gave his word to my father David, and with his strong hand has made his word come true, saying,

5 ‘Talu mei he ʻaho naʻaku ʻomi ai ʻa hoku kakai mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite naʻe ʻikai te u fili ha kolo ʻi he ngaahi faʻahinga ʻo ʻIsileli ke langa ai ha fale, koeʻuhi ke tuku ʻi ai ʻa hoku huafa: pea naʻe ʻikai te u fili ha tangata ke ne pule ki hoku kakai ʻIsileli:

From the day when I took my people out of the land of Egypt, no town in all the tribes of Israel has been marked out by me for the building of a house for the resting-place of my name; and I took no man to be a ruler over my people Israel;

6 Ka kuo u fili ʻa Selūsalema, koeʻuhi ke ʻi ai ʻa hoku huafa: pea kuo u fili ʻa Tevita ke ne pule ki hoku kakai ʻIsileli.’

But now I have made selection of Jerusalem, that my name might be there, and of David, to be over my people Israel.

7 Pea ko eni, naʻe ʻi he loto ʻo Tevita ko ʻeku tamai ke langa ha fale ki he huafa ʻo Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli.

Now it was in the heart of my father David to put up a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.

8 Ka naʻe pehē ʻe Sihova kia Tevita ko ʻeku tamai, ‘Koeʻuhi ko ʻene ʻi ho loto ia ke ke langa ha fale ki hoku huafa, naʻa ke fai lelei ke ʻi ho loto ia:’

But the Lord said to David my father, You did well to have in your heart the desire to make a house for my name:

9 Ka neongo ia ʻe ʻikai te ke langa ʻae fale: ka ko ho foha ʻe tupu mei ho fatu, ko ia ia te ne langa ʻae fale ki hoku huafa.

But you yourself will not be the builder of the house; but your son, the offspring of your body, he it is who will put up a house for my name.

10 Ko ia kuo fakamoʻoni ʻe Sihova ʻa ʻene folofola ʻaia naʻa ne folofola ʻaki: he kuo u tuʻu hake au ke fetongi ʻa Tevita ko ʻeku tamai, pea kuo u nofo ki he nofoʻa fakatuʻi ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻo hangē ko e talaʻofa ʻa Sihova, pea kuo u langa ʻae fale ki he huafa ʻo Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli.

And the Lord has kept his word; for I have taken my father David's place on the seat of the kingdom of Israel, as the Lord gave his word; and I have made the house for the name of the Lord the God of Israel.

11 Pea kuo u ʻai ki ai ʻae puha, ʻaia ʻoku ʻi ai ʻae fuakava ʻa Sihova, ʻaia naʻa ne fai mo e fānau ʻa ʻIsileli.”

And there I have put the ark, in which is the agreement of the Lord, which he made with the people of Israel.

12 Pea naʻa ne tuʻu ʻi he ʻao ʻoe feilaulauʻanga ʻo Sihova ʻi he ʻao ʻoe fakataha kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsileli, pea naʻa ne mafao atu ʻa hono nima:

Then he took his place in front of the altar of the Lord, all the men of Israel being present,

13 He kuo ngaohi ʻe Solomone ha tuʻuʻanga palasa, ko e hanga ʻe hongofulu ʻa hono lōloa, mo e hanga ʻe hongofulu hono māukupu, pea ko e hanga ʻe ono ʻa hono māʻolunga, pea kuo fokotuʻu ia ʻi he lotolotonga ʻoe lotoʻā: pea naʻa ne tuʻu ki ai, pea naʻa ne tūʻulutui ki hono tui ʻi he ʻao ʻoe fakataha kātoa ʻo ʻIsileli, pea naʻa ne mafao atu ʻa hono nima ki he langi,

(For Solomon had made a brass stage, five cubits long, five cubits wide and three cubits high, and had put it in the middle of the open space; on this he took his place and went down on his knees before all the meeting of Israel, stretching out his hands to heaven.)

14 Mo ne pehē, “ʻE Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻoku ʻikai ha ʻOtua ke tatau mo koe ʻi he langi, pe ʻi he māmani: ʻa koe ʻoku tauhi ʻae fuakava, mo ke ʻaloʻofa ki hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki, ʻakinautolu ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ʻi ho ʻao ʻi he loto haohaoa:

And he said, O Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven or on earth; keeping faith and mercy unchanging for your servants, while they go in your ways with all their hearts;

15 ‌ʻA koe kuo ke fai moʻoni mo hoʻo tamaioʻeiki ko Tevita ko ʻeku tamai ʻae meʻa naʻa ke talaʻofa ai kiate ia: pea kuo ke folofola mei ho fofonga, pea kuo ke fakamoʻoni ki ai ʻaki ho nima, ʻo hangē ko ia he ʻaho ni.

For you have kept the word which you gave to your servant David, my father; with your mouth you said it and with your hand you have made it come true this day.

16 Pea ko eni, ʻE Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, ke ke fai mo hoʻo tamaioʻeiki ko Tevita ko ʻeku tamai ʻaia naʻa ke talaʻofa ʻaki kiate ia, ʻo pehē, ʻE ʻikai te ke masiva ha tangata ʻi hoku ʻao ke nofo ki he nofoʻa fakatuʻi ʻo ʻIsileli: ʻo kapau ʻe tokanga ʻe hoʻo fānau ki honau ʻaluʻanga ke ʻeveʻeva ʻi heʻeku fono, ʻo hangē ko hoʻo ʻeveʻeva ʻi hoku ʻao.

So now, O Lord, the God of Israel, let your word to your servant David, my father, come true, when you said, You will never be without a man to take his place before me on the seat of the kingdom of Israel; if only your children give attention to their ways, walking in my law, as you have done before me.

17 Pea ko eni, ʻE Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻIsileli, tuku ke fakamoʻoni ʻa hoʻo folofola, ʻaia kuo ke folofolaʻaki ki hoʻo tamaioʻeiki ko Tevita.

So now, O Lord, the God of Israel, make your word come true which you said to your servant David.

18 Ka ʻe nofo moʻoni koā ʻae ʻOtua mo e tangata ʻi he māmani? Vakai, ʻoku ʻikai te ke faʻa hao koe ʻi he langi, mo e langi ʻoe ngaahi langi: kae huanoa eni ʻae fale ʻaia kuo u langa!

But is it truly possible that God may be housed with men on earth? see, heaven and the heaven of heavens are not wide enough to be your resting-place: how much less this house which I have made:

19 Ko ia ke ke ʻafio lelei ki he lotu ʻa hoʻo tamaioʻeiki, pea ki heʻene kole tāumaʻu, ʻE Sihova ko hoku ʻOtua, ke fakaongo ki he tangi mo e lotu ʻaia ʻoku lotu ʻaki ʻi ho ʻao ʻe hoʻo tamaioʻeiki:

Still, let your heart be turned to the prayer of your servant and to his prayer for grace, O Lord my God, and give ear to the cry and the prayer which your servant makes before you;

20 Koeʻuhi ke ʻa ho fofonga ki he fale ni ʻi he ʻaho mo e pō, ki he potu ko ia naʻa ke pehē ai te ke tuku ʻi ai ho huafa: ke fakaongo ki he lotu ʻaia ʻoku lotu ʻaki ʻe hoʻo tamaioʻeiki ʻi he potu ni.

That your eyes may be open to this house day and night, to this place of which you have said that you would put your name there; to give ear to the prayer which your servant may make, turning to this place.

21 Ko ia ke ke ongoʻi ʻae ngaahi kole ʻa hoʻo tamaioʻeiki, pea mo hoʻo kakai ʻIsileli, ʻaia te nau lotu ʻaki ʻi he potu ni: fanongo ʻe koe mei ho ʻafioʻanga, mei he langi: pea ʻoka ke ka ongoʻi, fakamolemole.

And give ear to the prayers of your servant and of your people Israel, when they make their prayers, turning to this place; give ear from heaven your living-place; and hearing have mercy.

22 “Kapau ʻe fai ha kovi ʻe ha tangata ki hono kaungāʻapi, pea ʻoku ne fai ke ne fuakava, pea ʻoku ʻomi ʻae fuakava ki he ʻao ʻo hoʻo feilaulauʻanga ʻi he fale ni:

If a man does wrong to his neighbour and has to take an oath, and comes before your altar to take his oath in this house:

23 Ke ke toki fanongo ʻe koe mei he langi, pea ke ngāue, mo fakamaauʻi ʻa hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki, ʻi he totongi ki he angakovi, ke ʻomi ki hono ʻulu ʻoʻona ʻa hono nunuʻa: pea ʻi he fakatonuhiaʻi ʻae māʻoniʻoni, ʻi he ʻatu kiate ia ʻo tatau mo ʻene angatonu.

Then let your ear be open in heaven, and be the judge of your servants, giving punishment to the wrongdoer, so that his sin may come on his head; and, by your decision, keeping from evil him who has done no wrong.

24 “Kapau ʻe teʻia hifo ʻa hoʻo kakai ʻIsileli ʻi he ʻao ʻo honau ngaahi fili, koeʻuhi ko ʻenau fai ha kovi kiate koe, ka kuo nau toe tafoki mai kiate koe, pea nau tāpafua ʻa ho huafa, mo hū, pea fai fakakolekole kiate koe ʻi he fale ni:

And if your people Israel are overcome in war, because of their sin against you; if they are turned to you again, honouring your name, making prayers and requesting your grace in this house:

25 Ke ke toki fanongo ʻe koe mei he langi, pea fakamolemole ʻae angahala ʻa hoʻo kakai ʻIsileli, pea ke toe ʻomi ʻakinautolu ki he fonua ʻaia naʻa ke foaki kiate kinautolu mo ʻenau ngaahi tamai.

Then give ear from heaven, and let the sin of your people Israel have forgiveness, and take them back again to the land which you gave to them and to their fathers.

26 “ʻOka tāpuni ʻae langi, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha ʻuha ʻe tō, koeʻuhi ko ʻenau fai angahala kiate koe: pea kapau te nau lotu ʻi he potu ni, pea tāpafua ʻa ho huafa, pea nau liliu mei heʻenau angahala, ʻoka ke ka fakamamahi ʻakinautolu:

When heaven is shut up and there is no rain, because of their sin against you: if they make prayers with their faces turned to this place, honouring your name and turning away from their sin when you send trouble on them:

27 Ke ke toki fanongo ʻe koe mei he langi, pea fakamolemole ʻae angahala ʻa hoʻo kau tamaioʻeiki, pea mo hoʻo kakai ʻIsileli, koeʻuhi ke ke akoʻi ʻakinautolu ʻi he hala lelei ʻaia ʻoku totonu ke nau ʻalu ai, pea ke foaki ʻae ʻuha ki ho fonua ʻaia kuo ke foaki ki hoʻo kakai ko honau tofiʻa.

Then give ear from heaven, so that the sin of your servants and the sin of your people Israel may have forgiveness, when you make clear to them the good way in which they are to go; and send rain on your land which you have given to your people for their heritage.

28 “Kapau ʻe ai ha honge ʻi he fonua, pe ha mahaki fakaʻauha, pe ko e huhunu lahi ʻoe ngoue, pe ko e fakapopo, pe ko e heʻe maumau, pe ko e ʻunufe: kapau ʻe nofo takatakai ʻiate kinautolu ʻa honau ngaahi fili ʻi he fonua ʻo ʻenau ngaahi veʻekolo: pe ko e hā ʻae fakaʻauha pe ko e mahaki ʻe ʻi ai;

If there is no food in the land, if there is disease, if the fruits of the earth are damaged by heat or water, locust or worm; if their towns are shut in by their attackers: whatever trouble or whatever disease there may be:

29 ‌ʻIlonga ʻae lotu mo e kole ʻe fai ʻe ha tangata ʻe tokotaha, pe ʻe he kakai kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻi heʻene ʻilo taki taha ʻe he tangata ʻae kovi ʻo hono loto ʻoʻona mo ʻene mamahi, pea ne mafao mai ʻa hono nima ki he fale ni:

Whatever prayer or request for your grace is made by any man, or by all your people Israel, whatever his trouble may be, whose hands are stretched out to this house:

30 Ke ke toki fanongo ʻe koe mei he langi ko ho ʻafioʻanga, pea fakamolemole, pea ke foaki ki he tangata taki taha ʻo fakatatau ki heʻene anga, ʻo ia ʻoku ke ʻafioʻi ʻa hono loto: (he ko koe pe tokotaha, ʻoku ke ʻilo ʻae loto ʻoe fānau kotoa pē ʻae tangata: )

Then give ear from heaven your living-place, answering with forgiveness, and give to every man, whose secret heart is open to you, the reward of all his ways; (for you, and you only, have knowledge of the hearts of the children of men; )

31 Koeʻuhi ke nau manavahē kiate koe ke ʻeveʻeva ʻi ho ngaahi hala ʻi he ʻaho kotoa pē te nau moʻui ai ʻi he fonua ʻaia kuo ke foaki ki he ʻemau ngaahi tamai.

So that they may give you worship, walking in your ways, as long as they are living in the land which you gave to our fathers.

32 “Pea koeʻuhi foki ko e muli, ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai ʻo hoʻo kakai ʻIsileli, ka kuo haʻu mei ha fonua mamaʻo koeʻuhi ko ho huafa lahi ʻoʻou, pea mo ho nima mālohi, pea mo ho nima kuo mafao atu: ʻoka haʻu ʻakinautolu ke lotu ʻi he fale ni:

And as for the man from a strange land, who is not of your people Israel but comes from a far country because of the glory of your name and your strong hand and your outstretched arm; when he comes to make his prayer, turning to this house:

33 Ke ke toki fanongo ʻe koe mei he langi ko ho ʻafioʻanga, pea ke fai ʻo fakatatau mo e meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku kole ai ʻe he muli kiate koe: koeʻuhi ke ʻilo ʻe he kakai kotoa pē ʻo māmani ki ho huafa, ʻo manavahē kiate koe, ʻo hangē ko hoʻo kakai ʻIsileli: pea koeʻuhi ke ʻilo ʻoku ui ʻaki ʻa ho huafa ʻae fale ni ʻaia kuo u langa.

Then give ear from heaven your living-place, and give him his desire, whatever it may be; so that all the peoples of the earth may have knowledge of your name, worshipping you as do your people Israel, and may see that this house which I have made is truly named by your name.

34 “Kapau ʻe ʻalu ʻa hoʻo kakai kituaʻā ke tauʻi ʻa honau ngaahi fili, ʻi he hala ko ia te ke fekau atu ʻakinautolu ki ai, pea nau lotu kia Sihova ʻo hanga ki he kolo ni ʻaia kuo ke fili, pea ki he fale ʻaia kuo u langa ki ho huafa:

If your people go out to war against their attackers, by whatever way you may send them, if they make their prayers to you turning their faces to this town of yours and to this house which I have put up for your name:

35 Ke ke toki fanongo ʻe koe mei he langi ki heʻenau lotu mo ʻenau kole, pea ke tokonia ʻakinautolu ʻi he meʻa totonu.

Then give ear from heaven to their prayer and their cry for grace, and see right done to them.

36 Kapau te nau angahala kiate koe, (he ʻoku ʻikai ha tangata ʻoku taʻehaangahala, ) pea te ke houhau kiate kinautolu, mo ke tukuange ʻakinautolu ki he fili, pea nau fetuku ʻakinautolu ko e kau pōpula ki he fonua ʻoe fili, pe ko e mamaʻo pe ko e ofi

If they do wrong against you, (for no man is without sin, ) and you are angry with them, and give them up into the power of those who are fighting against them, so that they take them away prisoners to a land far off or near;

37 Pea kapau te nau toe fakatokangaʻi honau loto ʻi he fonua ko ia kuo ʻave pōpula ki ai ʻakinautolu, mo [nau ]fakatomala, mo fakakolekole kiate koe mei he fonua ʻo ʻenau pōpula, ʻonau pehē, Kuo mau angahala, pea kuo mau fai talangataʻa, kuo mau fai ʻae kovi:

And if they take thought, in the land where they are prisoners, turning again to you, crying out in prayer to you in that land, and saying, We are sinners, we have done wrong, we have done evil;

38 Pea kapau te nau tafoki mai kiate koe ʻaki ʻa honau loto kātoa, pea mo honau laumālie kotoa, ʻi he fonua ʻo honau pōpula, ʻaia naʻe ʻave pōpula ʻakinautolu ki ai, pea nau lotu kiate koe ʻo hanga ki honau fonua, ʻaia naʻa ke foaki ki heʻenau ngaahi tamai, ʻae kolo ko ia kuo ke fili, pea mo e fale ʻaia kuo u langa ki ho huafa:

If with all their heart and soul they are turned again to you, in the land where they are prisoners, the land where they have been taken, and make their prayers, turning their eyes to their land which you gave to their fathers, and to the town which you took for yourself, and the house which I have made for your name:

39 Ke ke toki fanongo ʻe koe mei he langi ko ho ʻafioʻanga ki heʻenau lotu mo ʻenau kole, pea ke tokonia ʻakinautolu ʻi he meʻa totonu, pea ke fakamolemole ʻa hoʻo kakai ʻaia kuo angahala kiate koe.

Then give ear from heaven your living-place to their prayer and their cry, and see right done to them, answering with forgiveness your people who have done wrong against you.

40 Ko eni, ʻE hoku ʻOtua, ʻoku ou kole kiate koe, ke ʻafio ʻa ho fofonga, pea tokanga ho telinga ki he lotu ʻi he potu ni.

Now, O my God, may your eyes be open and your ears awake to the prayers made in this place.

41 Ko ia foki, ʻE Sihova ko e ʻOtua, tuʻu hake ki ho mālōlōʻanga, ʻa koe, mo e puha ʻoe fuakava ʻo hoʻo mālohi: ʻE Sihova ko e ʻOtua, tuku ʻa hoʻo kau taulaʻeiki ke kofuʻaki ʻae fakamoʻui, pea tuku ke fiefia ʻa hoʻo kakai māʻoniʻoni ʻi he angalelei.

Up! now, O Lord God, come back to your resting-place, you and the ark of your strength: let your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let your saints be glad in what is good.

42 ‌ʻE Sihova ko e ʻOtua, ʻoua naʻa fakatafoki atu ʻae mata ʻo ia kuo ke pani ʻaki ʻae lolo: manatuʻi ʻae ngaahi ʻaloʻofa ʻo Tevita ko hoʻo tamaioʻeiki.”

O Lord God, let him whom you have taken for yourself never be given up by you: keep in mind your mercies to David your servant.
