நீதிமொழிகள் 23

1 ௧ நீ ஒரு அதிபதியோடு சாப்பிடுவதற்கு உட்கார்ந்தால், உனக்கு முன்பாக இருக்கிறதை நன்றாகக் கவனித்துப்பார்.

When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, thou shalt consider well, what is before thee;

2 ௨ நீ சாப்பாட்டு பிரியனாக இருந்தால், உன்னுடைய தொண்டையிலே கத்தியை வை.

And shalt put a knife to thy throat, if, of great appetite, thou art:

3 ௩ அவனுடைய ருசியுள்ள உணவுகள்மீது ஆசைப்படாதே; அவைகள் வஞ்சக உணவாக இருக்கலாம்.

Do not crave his dainties, for, the same, are deceitful food.

4 ௪ செல்வந்தனாகவேண்டுமென்று முயற்சிக்காதே; சுயபுத்தியைச் சாராதே.

Do not toil to get wealth, of thine own understanding, forbear:

5 ௫ இல்லாமற்போகும் பொருள்மேல் உன்னுடைய கண்களை ஏன் பறக்கவிடவேண்டும்? அது கழுகைப்போல சிறகுகளைத் தனக்கு உண்டாக்கிக்கொண்டு, வானில் பறந்துபோகும்.

Wilt thou let thine eye fly thereupon, when it is nothing? for it will, surely make, itself wings, Like an eagle, will it wing its way across the heavens.

6 ௬ பொறாமைக்காரனுடைய உணவை சாப்பிடாதே; அவனுடைய ருசியுள்ள உணவுகளில் ஆசைப்படாதே.

Do not eat the food of him that hath a begrudging eye, neither crave thou his dainties;

7 ௭ அவனுடைய இருதயத்தின் நினைவு எப்படியோ, அப்படியே அவனும் இருக்கிறான்; சாப்பிடும், குடியும் என்று அவன் உன்னோடு சொன்னாலும், அவனுடைய இருதயம் உன்னோடு இருக்காது.

For, just as he hath thought in his own mind, so, he is: Eat and drink! he may say to thee, but, his heart, is not with thee.

8 ௮ நீ சாப்பிட்ட உணவை வாந்தியெடுத்து, உன்னுடைய இனிய சொற்களை இழந்துபோவாய்.

As for thy morsel thou hast eaten, thou shalt vomit it, so shalt thou waste thy things so sweet.

9 ௯ மூடனுடைய காதுகள் கேட்கப் பேசாதே; அவன் உன்னுடைய வார்த்தைகளின் ஞானத்தை அசட்டை செய்வான்.

In the ears of a dullard, do not speak, for he will despise the good sense of thy words.

10 ௧0 பழைய எல்லைக்கல்லை மாற்றாதே; திக்கற்ற பிள்ளைகளுடைய நிலங்களை அபகரித்துக்கொள்ளாதே.

Do not move back the ancient boundary, and, into the fields of the fatherless, do not enter;

11 ௧௧ அவர்களுடைய மீட்பர் வல்லவர்; அவர் உன்னுடனே அவர்களுக்காக வழக்காடுவார்.

For, their near of kin, is strong, he, will plead their cause with thee.

12 ௧௨ உன் இருதயத்தைப் புத்திமதிக்கும், உன் காதுகளை அறிவின் வார்த்தைகளுக்கும் சாய்ப்பாயாக.

Bring, to correction, thy heart, and thine ears, to the sayings of knowledge.

13 ௧௩ பிள்ளையை தண்டிக்காமல் விடாதே; அவனைப் பிரம்பினால் அடித்தால் அவன் சாகமாட்டான்.

Do not withhold, from a child, correction, When thou smitest him with the rod, he shall not die:

14 ௧௪ நீ பிரம்பினால் அவனை அடிக்கிறதினால் பாதாளத்திற்கு அவனுடைய ஆத்துமாவைத் தப்புவிப்பாயே. (Sheol h7585)

Thou, with the rod, shalt smite him, and, his soul from hades, shalt thou deliver. (Sheol h7585)

15 ௧௫ என் மகனே, உன்னுடைய இருதயம் ஞானமுள்ளதாக இருந்தால், என்னிலே என்னுடைய இருதயம் மகிழும்.

My son! if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

16 ௧௬ உன் உதடுகள் செம்மையானவைகளைப் பேசினால், என்னுடைய உள்மனம் மகிழும்.

So shall my reins exult, when thy lips speak the things that are right.

17 ௧௭ உன் மனதைப் பாவிகள்மேல் பொறாமைகொள்ள விடாதே; நீ நாள்தோறும் யெகோவாவைப் பற்றும் பயத்தோடு இரு.

Let not thy heart be envious of sinners, only of the reverence of Yahweh, all day long;

18 ௧௮ நிச்சயமாகவே முடிவு உண்டு; உன்னுடைய நம்பிக்கை வீண்போகாது.

For surely there is a future, and, thine expectation, shall not be cut off.

19 ௧௯ என் மகனே, நீ கேட்டு ஞானமடைந்து, உன்னுடைய இருதயத்தை நல்வழியிலே நடத்து.

Hear, thou, my son, and be wise, and lead forward, in duty, thy heart.

20 ௨0 மதுபானப்பிரியர்களோடும், இறைச்சி அதிகமாக சாப்பிடுகிறவர்களோடும் சேராதே.

Do not be among them who tipple with wine, —among them who are gluttons;

21 ௨௧ குடியனும், சாப்பாட்டுப்பிரியனும் தரித்திரராவார்கள்; தூக்கம் கிழிந்த துணிகளை அணிவிக்கும்.

For, the tippler and the glutton, shall come to poverty, and, rags, shall Slumber put on!

22 ௨௨ உன்னைப் பெற்ற தகப்பனுக்குச் செவிகொடு; உன்னுடைய தாய் வயதானவளாகும்போது அவளை புறக்கணிக்காதே.

Hearken to thy father here, who begat thee, and despise not, when she is old, thy mother.

23 ௨௩ சத்தியத்தை வாங்கு, அதை விற்காதே; அப்படியே ஞானத்தையும் உபதேசத்தையும் புத்தியையும் வாங்கு.

Truth, buy thou, but do not sell, wisdom, and correction, and understanding.

24 ௨௪ நீதிமானுடைய தகப்பன் மிகவும் களிகூருவான்; ஞானமுள்ள பிள்ளையைப் பெற்றவன் அவனால் மகிழுவான்.

Greatly shall exult, the father of a righteous man, and, he that begetteth a wise son, shall rejoice in him:

25 ௨௫ உன் தகப்பனும் உன் தாயும் சந்தோஷப்படுவார்கள்; உன்னைப் பெற்றவள் மகிழுவாள்.

Rejoice shall thy father and thy mother, yea she, shall exult, who bare thee.

26 ௨௬ என் மகனே, உன்னுடைய இருதயத்தை எனக்குக் கொடு; உன் கண்கள் என்னுடைய வழிகளைப் பார்ப்பதாக.

Oh give, my son, thy mind unto me, and let, thine eyes, observe, my ways;

27 ௨௭ ஒழுங்கீனமானவள் ஆழமான படுகுழி; அந்நியனுடைய மனைவி இடுக்கமான கிணறு.

For, a deep chasm, is the unchaste woman, and, a narrow pit, the female unknown;

28 ௨௮ அவள் கொள்ளைக்காரனைப்போல் ஒளிந்திருந்து, மனிதர்களுக்குள்ளே பாவிகளைப் பெருகச்செய்கிறாள்.

Yea, she, as for prey, lieth in wait, and, the treacherous among mankind, she causeth to abound.

29 ௨௯ ஐயோ, யாருக்கு வேதனை? யாருக்குத் துக்கம்? யாருக்குச் சண்டைகள்? யாருக்குப் புலம்பல்? யாருக்குக் காரணமில்லாத காயங்கள்? யாருக்கு இரத்தம்கலங்கின கண்கள்?

Who hath woe? Who hath outcry of pain? Who hath contentions? Who hath complaining? Who hath needless wounds? Who hath dullness of eyes?

30 ௩0 மதுபானம் இருக்கும் இடத்திலே தங்கி வாழ்பவர்களுக்கும், கலப்புள்ள சாராயத்தை நாடுகிறவர்களுக்கும்தானே.

They who tarry over wine, they who go in to search for mixed wine.

31 ௩௧ மதுபானம் இரத்த நிறமாக இருந்து, பாத்திரத்தில் பளபளப்பாகத் தோன்றும்போது, நீ அதைப் பார்க்காதே; அது மெதுவாக இறங்கும்.

Do not look on wine when it becometh red, when it giveth in the cup its sparkle, glideth down smoothly.

32 ௩௨ முடிவிலே அது பாம்பைப்போல் கடிக்கும், விரியனைப்போல் தீண்டும்.

Its after effect, is that, like a serpent, it biteth, and, like a viper, it doth sting.

33 ௩௩ உன் கண்கள் ஒழுங்கீனமான பெண்களை நோக்கும்; உன் உள்ளம் தாறுமாறானவைகளைப் பேசும்.

Thine eyes, will see strange women, and, thy heart, will speak perverse things:

34 ௩௪ நீ நடுக்கடலிலே தூங்குகிறவனைப்போலவும், பாய்மரத்தட்டிலே படுத்திருக்கிறவனைப்போலவும் இருப்பாய்.

So shalt thou become, as one lying down in the heart of the sea, —or as one lying down on the top of the mastgear:

35 ௩௫ என்னை அடித்தார்கள், எனக்கு நோகவில்லை; என்னை அறைந்தார்கள், எனக்குச் சுரணையில்லை; நான் அதைப் பின்னும் தொடர்ந்து தேட எப்பொழுது விழிப்பேன் என்பாய்.

They smote me—I felt no pain, They struck me down—I noticed it not, —When shall I wake up? I will go on, I will seek it, again!
