உபாகமம் 2
1 பின்பு, யெகோவா எனக்கு வழிகாட்டியபடியே நாம் திரும்பி செங்கடலுக்குப் போகும் வழியாக பாலைவனத்தை நோக்கிப் புறப்பட்டோம். நீண்டகாலமாக நாம் சேயீர் மலைநாட்டைச் சுற்றியுள்ள வழியாகப் போனோம்.
“Then we turned around and went through the desert toward the (Red Sea/Gulf of Aqaba), as Yahweh told us to do, and we wandered in the Edom area for many years.
2 அதன்பின் யெகோவா என்னிடம்,
Then Yahweh said to me,
3 “நீங்கள் இந்த மலைநாட்டைச் சுற்றிவந்தது போதும். இப்பொழுது வடக்கே திரும்புங்கள்.
‘You have been wandering around this hilly area for a long enough time. Now turn [and travel] toward the north.
4 நீ இந்த மக்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கவேண்டிய உத்தரவுகளாவன: நீங்கள் உங்கள் சகோதரர்களாகிய ஏசாவின் சந்ததியார் வசிக்கும் சேயீர் பிரதேசத்தைக் கடந்துசெல்லப் போகிறீர்கள். அவர்கள் உங்களுக்குப் பயப்படுவார்கள், ஆனால் எச்சரிக்கையாய் இருங்கள்.
And tell the people that they are about to travel near the land that belongs to the descendants of Esau, who are also descendants of Isaac. They live in the [hilly] Edom region. They will be afraid of you,
5 அவர்களை யுத்தத்திற்குத் தூண்டாதீர்கள்; ஏனென்றால் அவர்களின் நாட்டில் ஒரு அடி அளவான நிலத்தைக்கூட தரமாட்டேன். சேயீர் மலைநாட்டை ஏசாவுக்குச் சொந்தமாகக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறேன்.
but do not start to fight against them, because I am not going to give you even a tiny bit [HYP] of their land. I have given that land to the descendants of Esau.
6 அங்கே அவர்களுக்கு நீங்கள் உண்ணும் உணவுக்கும் குடிக்கும் நீருக்கும் வெள்ளிப்பணம் கொடுங்கள்” என்றார்.
[When you travel near their land], buy food and water from them.’
7 உங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா உங்கள் கைகளின் வேலை எல்லாவற்றிலும் உங்களை ஆசீர்வதித்தார். அவர் இந்த விசாலமான பாலைவனத்தின் வழியாக உங்கள் பிரயாணத்திலும் உங்கள்மேல் கண்காணிப்பாய் இருந்தார். இந்த நாற்பது வருடங்களும் உங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா உங்களுடன் இருந்திருக்கிறார்; நீங்கள் ஒன்றுக்கும் குறைவில்லாமலும் இருந்திருக்கிறீர்கள்.
Do not forget that Yahweh our God has blessed you in everything that you [SYN] have done. He knows [what has happened to you while] you have wandered in this huge desert. But he has been with you during those 40 years, and as a result you have had everything that you needed [LIT].
8 நாம் சேயீரில் வாழ்கின்ற ஏசாவின் சந்ததியாரான நம்முடைய சகோதரரைக் கடந்துசென்றோம். நாம் ஏலாத்திலிருந்தும், எசியோன் கேபேரிலிருந்தும் வருகிற அரபா வழியாகத் திரும்பி மோவாபுக்குப் போகும் பாலைவனப் பாதை வழியாகப் பயணம் செய்தோம்.
So we continued to travel. We avoided going through the hilly area where the descendants of Esau live. We stayed away from the road through the Jordan [River] Valley past Ezion-Geber and Elath [towns], and we turned and traveled northeast toward the desert area where the Moab people-group lives.
9 அப்பொழுது யெகோவா என்னிடம், “மோவாபியர்களைத் தொல்லைப்படுத்தவோ, அவர்களை யுத்தம்செய்யத் தூண்டவோ வேண்டாம். ஏனென்றால் அவர்களின் நாட்டில் எதையும், நான் உங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கமாட்டேன். நான் ஆர் என்னும் பிரதேசத்தை லோத்தின் சந்ததியாருக்கு உரிமையாகக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறேன்” என்றார்.
Yahweh said to me, ‘Do not bother/harass the people of Moab, and do not start to fight against them, because I am not going to give you any of their land. [Do not forget that] they are descendants of [Abraham’s nephew] Lot, and I have given to them Ar [city, their capital, and the other areas in that country].’”
10 முற்காலத்தில் அங்கு ஏமியர் வாழ்ந்துவந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் பலமும், எண்ணிக்கையில் அதிகமும், ஏனாக்கியரைப்போல் உயரமுமாய் இருந்தார்கள்.
A large group of giants called Emim formerly lived there. They were strong and numerous, and as tall as the giants who were descendants of Anak.
11 ஏனாக்கியரைப் போலவே அவர்களும் அரக்கர்களாகக் கருதப்பட்டார்கள், மோவாபியரோ அவர்களை ஏமியர் என்று அழைத்தார்கள்.
They and the descendants of Anak are also called the Repha giants, but the people of Moab call them Emim.
12 முற்காலத்தில் ஓரியர் சேயீரில் வாழ்ந்துவந்தார்கள். ஆனால் ஏசாவின் சந்ததியார் அவர்களைத் துரத்திவிட்டார்கள். யெகோவா தங்களுக்கு உரிமையாகக் கொடுத்த நாட்டில் இஸ்ரயேலர் செய்ததுபோலவே, ஏசாவின் சந்ததியார் ஓரியரைத் தங்கள் முன்னின்று துரத்திவிட்டு, அவர்களுடைய இடத்தில் குடியேறினார்கள்.
The Hor people-group also formerly lived in the Edom area, but the descendants of Esau chased them out. They defeated and killed them and (settled in/occupied) their land, just as the Israeli people later expelled their enemies from the land that Yahweh gave to them.
13 அப்பொழுது யெகோவா, “நீங்கள் எழுந்து சேரேத் பள்ளத்தாக்கைக் கடந்துபோங்கள்” என்றார். அப்படியே நாமும் பள்ளத்தாக்கைக் கடந்துசென்றோம்.
[I also said to the Israeli people], “Then we crossed the Zered Gorge, as Yahweh told us to do.
14 நாம் காதேஸ் பர்னேயாவிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு, சேரேத் பள்ளத்தாக்கைக் கடக்கும்வரை முப்பத்தெட்டு வருடங்கள் எடுத்தன. அதற்குள்ளாக யெகோவா அவர்களுக்கு ஆணையிட்டிருந்தபடியே, யுத்தம் செய்யும் மனிதரான அந்தச் சந்ததி முழுவதும் முகாமிலிருந்து அழிந்துபோனார்கள்.
It had been thirty-eight years from the time we first left Kadesh-Barnea until we crossed the Zered Gorge. During those years, all the Israeli (fighting men/soldiers) of that generation had died, as Yahweh had vowed would happen.
15 அவர்களை முகாமிலிருந்து முற்றிலும் அகற்றிப்போடும்வரை, யெகோவாவினுடைய கரம் அவர்களுக்கு எதிராக இருந்தது.
They died because Yahweh opposed them, until he had gotten rid of all of them.
16 மக்கள் மத்தியில் கடைசியில் இருந்த யுத்தமனிதர் இறந்தபின்,
After all the men who had been old enough to fight in wars had died [DOU],
17 யெகோவா என்னிடம் சொன்னதாவது:
Yahweh said to me,
18 “நீங்கள் இன்று மோவாப் பிரதேசத்தின் எல்லையை ஆர் என்ற இடத்தில் கடந்துசெல்வீர்கள்.
‘Today you all must cross the border into the Moab region, near Ar, [their capital city].
19 நீங்கள் அம்மோனியரின் நாட்டின் வழியாக வருகிறபோது, அவர்களைத் தொல்லைப்படுத்தாமலும், யுத்தம்செய்யத் தூண்டாமலும் இருங்கள். ஏனெனில் அம்மோனியருக்குச் சொந்தமான எந்த நிலத்தையும் நான் உங்களுக்கு உரிமையாகக் கொடுக்கமாட்டேன். அந்த நாட்டை லோத்தின் சந்ததிக்கே உரிமையாகக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறேன்” என்றார்.
When you come near the border of the land where the Ammon people-group live, do not bother/harass them or start to fight against them. They are also descendants of Lot, so I am not going to give you any of the land that I have given to them.’”
20 முற்காலத்தில் அந்த நாட்டிலே அரக்கர் வாழ்ந்தபடியால் அது, அரக்கர்களுடைய நாடு என்று கருதப்பட்டது. அம்மோனியர் அவர்களை சம்சூமியர் என்று அழைத்தார்கள்.
That region is also called the land of the Repha giants, who formerly lived there. The Ammon people-group call them the Zamzum group.
21 அவர்கள் பலமும், எண்ணிக்கையில் அதிகமும், ஏனாக்கியரைப் போலவே உயரமுமாய் இருந்தார்கள். ஆனால் யெகோவா அவர்களை அம்மோனியரின் முன்னின்று துரத்திவிட்டார். இவ்வாறு அம்மோனியர் அவர்களைத் துரத்திவிட்டு அவர்களுடைய இடத்தில் குடியேறினார்கள்.
They were a large and powerful group, who were as tall as the descendants of Anak. But Yahweh got rid of them, and the Ammon people-group expelled them and took their land away from them and started to live there.
22 சேயீரில் வாழ்ந்த ஓரியரை ஏசாவின் சந்ததியின் முன்பாக அழித்தபோதும், யெகோவா இவ்விதமாகவே ஏசாவின் சந்ததிக்கும் செய்தார். அவர்கள் ஓரியரை வெளியே துரத்திவிட்டு, அவர்களுடைய இடத்தில் இந்நாள்வரை வாழ்கிறார்கள்.
Yahweh had done the same thing for the descendants of Esau who live in the hilly area of Edom. He got rid of the Hor people-group, with the result that the Edom people-group took their land from them and started to live there. They still live there.
23 அதேபோல் காசா வரையுள்ள கிராமங்களில் வாழ்கிற ஆவியரை, கப்தோரிலிருந்து வந்த கப்தோரியர் அழித்து, அவர்களுடைய இடத்தில் குடியேறினார்கள்.
People who came from Crete [Island] got rid of the Av group [who previously lived in the land close to the Mediterranean Sea], as far south as Gaza. They took their land from them and started to live there.
24 “இப்பொழுது புறப்பட்டு, அர்னோன் பள்ளத்தாக்கைக் கடந்துசெல்லுங்கள். பாருங்கள், எமோரியனான எஸ்போனின் அரசன் சீகோனையும், அவனுடைய நாட்டையும் உங்கள் கையில் கொடுத்திருக்கிறேன். நீங்கள் போய் அந்த நாட்டை உரிமையாக்கும்படி அவனுடன் சண்டையிடுங்கள்.
“[After we had gone through the Moab region], Yahweh said to us, ‘Now cross the Arnon [River]. I will help you to defeat [IDM] [the army of] Sihon, the king of the Amor people-group, who lives in Heshbon [city]. So attack their army and start to take their land from them.
25 அந்த நாளிலேயே வானத்தின்கீழ் இருக்கும் எல்லா நாடுகள்மேலும் உங்களைப்பற்றிய திகிலையும், பயத்தையும் போடத் தொடங்குவேன். அவர்கள் உங்களைப்பற்றிய செய்திகளை அறிந்தவுடன் நடுங்கி, உங்களால் வேதனைப்படுவார்கள்” என்றார்.
Today I will begin to cause everyone, everywhere, to be afraid of you. Everyone who hears about you will tremble and be terrified.’
26 நான் கெதெமோத் பாலைவனத்திலிருந்து எஸ்போனிலிருந்த சீகோன் அரசனுக்குச் சமாதான செய்தி சொல்லும்படி தூதுவர்களை அனுப்பிச் சொன்னதாவது:
Then I sent messengers to go from the desert to King Sihon at Heshbon. I told them to give this peaceful message to the king:
27 “உங்களுடைய நாட்டை கடந்துசெல்ல எங்களை அனுமதியுங்கள். பிரதான வீதியிலேயே நாங்கள் தங்குவோம்; வலதுபுறமோ, இடதுபுறமோ திரும்பமாட்டோம்.
‘Please allow us to travel through your land. We [promise that we] will stay on the road; we will not turn off to the right or to the left.
28 நாங்கள் சாப்பிடுவதற்காக உணவையும், குடிக்கத் தண்ணீரையும் விலைக்குக் கொடுங்கள். வெள்ளிப்பணத்தை அதன் விலையாகச் செலுத்துவோம். நாங்கள் கால்நடையாய் கடந்துபோகுமட்டும் அனுமதியுங்கள்.
We will pay for any food or water that you allow us to buy. We want only to walk through your country,
29 நாங்கள் யோர்தான் நதியைக் கடந்து எங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா எங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கும் நாட்டிற்குள் போகும்வரை, சேயீரில் வாழ்கிற ஏசாவின் சந்ததியும் ஆர் என்னும் பிரதேசத்தில் வசிக்கும் மோவாபியரும் எங்களுக்குச் செய்ததுபோல நீங்களும் செய்யுங்கள்”
until we cross the Jordan [River] into the land that Yahweh our God is giving to us. Do for us just as the descendants of Esau who live in the Edom area and the Moab people-group did for us when they allowed us to go through their areas.’
30 ஆனால் எஸ்போனின் அரசனாகிய சீகோன் தன் நாட்டைக் கடந்துசெல்ல நமக்கு அனுமதி கொடுக்க மறுத்துவிட்டான். ஏனென்றால் உங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா இப்பொழுது செய்திருக்கிறதுபோல், அவனை உங்கள் கைகளில் கொடுக்கும்படி அவனுடைய மனதைப் பிடிவாதமாகவும், அவனுடைய இருதயத்தைக் கடினமாகவும் ஆக்கினார்.
But King Sihon would not allow us to go through his country. That was because Yahweh our God caused him to be stubborn [IDM]. The result was that Yahweh enabled us to defeat his army and take his land [IDM], which we still live in.
31 பின்பு யெகோவா என்னிடம் சொன்னதாவது: “பார், நான் சீகோனையும், அவனுடைய நாட்டையும் உன்னிடத்தில் ஒப்புவிக்கத் தொடங்கிவிட்டேன். இப்பொழுது அவர்களைக் கைப்பற்றத் தொடங்கி அவனுடைய நாட்டை உரிமையாக்கிக்கொள்ளுங்கள்” என்றார்.
Yahweh said to me, ‘Listen! I am about to allow you to defeat Sihon’s [army] and to take the people’s land from them. So start to occupy it!’
32 சீகோனும், அவனுடைய எல்லாப் படைகளும் யாகாசில் நம்முடன் யுத்தம் செய்ய எதிர்கொண்டு வந்தபோது,
Then Sihon came out [of the city] with all his army to fight against us at Jahaz [town].
33 நம்முடைய இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா அவனை நம்மிடம் ஒப்படைத்தார். நாம் அவனை அவனுடைய மகன்களுடனும், அனைத்துப் படைகளுடனும் முறியடித்தோம்.
But God enabled us to defeat [DOU] them, and we killed Sihon and his sons and all his soldiers.
34 நாம் அக்காலத்திலேயே பட்டணங்கள் யாவற்றையும் கைப்பற்றி, ஆண்களையும், பெண்களையும், பிள்ளைகளையும் முழுவதும் அழித்தோம்; ஒருவரையும் தப்பவிடவில்லை.
We captured all their cities and destroyed them all. We killed all the men and women and children; we did not allow any of them to remain alive.
35 அங்கிருந்த வளர்ப்பு மிருகங்களையும், நாம் கைப்பற்றியிருந்த பட்டணங்களிலிருந்து கொள்ளையிட்ட பொருட்களையும் நாம் நமக்காகக் கொண்டுவந்தோம்.
We took the valuable things that were in the cities that we captured and also their cattle.
36 அர்னோன் பள்ளத்தாக்கின் அருகே உள்ள அரோயேரிலும், அப்பள்ளத்தாக்கிலிருந்த பட்டணத்திலுமிருந்து கீலேயாத்வரைக்கும் ஒரு பட்டணமாவது நாம் கைப்பற்றிக்கொள்ள முடியாத அளவு பலமுள்ளவையாய் இருக்கவில்லை. நமது இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா அவற்றையெல்லாம் நமக்குக் கொடுத்தார்.
Yahweh our God enabled us to capture [IDM] all their towns from Aroer [in the south], which is at the edge of the Arnon River [Valley], to the Gilead [region in the north]. Some of their cities had [walls around them], but we were able to [climb over them].
37 நமது இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவின் கட்டளைப்படியே அம்மோனியரின் நாட்டையும், யாப்போக்கு ஆற்றங்கரையிலுள்ள ஊர்களையும், மலைகளிலுள்ள பட்டணங்களையும் நீங்கள் பிடித்துக்கொள்ளவில்லை.
But we did not go near the area where the Ammon people-group live, or the banks of the Jabbok riverbed, or the towns in the hilly area, or any other place where Yahweh our God told us not to go.”
